West End furniture sale

On Saturday April 23rd between 2-4pm we will sell a bunch of furniture and other items at our beloved West End home at 1311 Clover Street. Below are pictures and some descriptions of what will be offered for sale, unless it sells prior of course. Plus I do not have pics of everything that will be offered.

We have 2 Monte Alto rockers with matching storage ottomans. We bought them new when our boys were born, and now we part with them. New they cost $795 for the chair and $395 for the ottoman. Yours now $250 (make offer)

We had another ARTpARTy the night before Valentine's Day and this might have been the last one at this location. Hopefully we will be moved into our new home or at least have it finished enough to host the next ARTpARTy there. But we had many fine pieces of art there, and in the end 19 pieces were exchanged. Apologies though for the crappy iPhone pics

I am now the proud owner of Miau Lisa that Mitch and Scott brought to the party.

The Tiles project by Brad and his kids proved to be quite popular.

Paige and Andy crafted jewelry for this edition of the ARTpARTy.

Julia's LOVE photo collage was very appropriate, and so were Brian's flowers.

Sarah and Barry have missed a couple parties but came back with passion.

Jessica and Jade were at the ARTpARTy for the first time, and fit right in.

Anna and Adam now live closer to us, but still had to juggle hard to come. We greatly appreciate it.

Aruna is a seasoned ARTpARTY pro and crafted this colorful pillow.

Her husband Michael always brings popular photos to the gathering.

Elizabeth and Michael also were ARTpARTy newbies, and we are glad they came.

Caitlin and Ben live next door to us and this also was a first time event for them.

Our friends Anna and Greg brought home crafted beer to the ARTpARTy, an item stolen often.

Amy and her boyfriend created these 2 very popular pieces, and I tried very hard to get the "guitar."

Maria and Jan drove all the way from Mount Airy to be part of that evening. Yeah.

Our Au Pair David created this Origami chair.

The terrorist attacks on Charlie Hebdo were sill on my mind.

Another ARTpARTy in Winston-Salem

A bit later than usual we had an ARTpARTy last night and it was a success. We all enjoyed great conversations, creative thinking and excellent food from The Porch in Winston-Salem. Below are some images of folks who attended and the at they created and brought to the ARTpARTy.

For our Au Pair Sara this was her first experience like this.

Kevin and Kristen worked together on this pregnancy project.

Andy and Paige made these great Steve Prefontaine homage t-shirts.

The world's smallest orchid captured by Anna.

Greg's cool magnetic bottle opener was very popular at the ART drawing later.

Christina with the beautiful soaps she had created.

Brad has been at many of these ARTpARTy events and his candle holders proved popular.

Leah's project was excellent and is adorning the home of someone else as I write this.

We had 3 architects at the ARTpARTy but Matt is not one of them.

Our neighbors from up the street were ready to head to the moon.

This is an awesome picture of a fountain from Evan and Caitlin.

The first time at the ARTpARTy and hopefully not the last time either for Chad and Martina.

New but certainly no rookie.

His sister was a late entry and added some of her jewelry to the art mix.

Mike got a bit of help from his partner for this project.

Brian and Julia are also ARTpARTy regulars and we are glad that is so.

Aruna and Michael had an art project each and we approved of Aruna's brownies.

Matt is another cool creative neighbor we have.

This is a tiny representation of the Chestnut house project Mark had submitted.

Adam and Anna were also ARTpARTy newbies.

Finally summer seems to have arrived in Europe after an endless winter and cold temperatures. The pic below from the Genfer See says it all. Everyone is ready for summer, even if there s still a bit of snow on the mountain tops.

We had another fun ARTpARTy at our home and it was super busy with some very interesting and diverse pieces of art. We had a grand total of 28 artworks on the table and everyone seemed to have fun.

Cindy and David were ARTpARTY newbies but their art did not show that.

Tim and Mike were among the first guests and they are great company.

Erin was also new to the ARTpARTY but her fly fishing art was very popular and stolen often.

Jeff and Bill have been regulars and we are glad that is so.

Our next door neighbor Sara and her boyfriend Joe were also new to these kind of parties

We were vey glad that Alex could join us for this social occasion

Anna and Greg are our best friends in town and because of our lengthy ARTpARTy break had never been to one. Anna made the painting and Greg the cherry wood frame

Aruna was an ARTpARTy first timer too and her scarf was beautiful

The photo her husband Michael brought to the gathering was very popular

Brad experimented with a disc sculpture

His wife Christina crafted a necklace and earrings, and we are now the proud owners

Matt and his wife were newcomers too but Matt's Winston-Salem mosaic was a hit

Our neighbors Mary and Phoebe worked together on this art project

Hannah put her clay skills to work

Amy was another ARTpARTy newbie

Sarah and Barry brought ART and a great attitude to the pARTy

We were glad that Zach and Julie could join us and Zach created a stunning bowl from bicycle chains.

Amret's lunch bag was a hit.

Her husband Wes dabbled with an eclectic music selection.

Caroline could not come, but Matt represented his household quite nicely.

Clare also came solo this time and brought this beautiful necklace that ended up in the hands of David and Cindy.

Matt just lives have a block from us and he is quite a creative person.

His wife Caroline also contributed a piece of ART to the pARTy

I had made this painting for an earlier ARTpARTy but made two versions that time, so this one finally found a new home.

At about 9pm the "Chinese" Gift exchange began, but most of the folks below did not end up with what they initially selected.

Anna was the first one to select, but she did not get to keep this fly fishing ART

Erin stole this painting, but it was quickly taken again. In the end though she got it.

Sarah, thought she had gotten away with this cool bowl, but it would not last.

Matt got very close and personal with this painting.

Alex actually ended up with this very popular Winston-Salem mosaic as it had been "stolen" too often.

I can easily go a few days without having any meat, but I do enjoy it when I have it. Having grown up in Germany I especially have a fond connection to sausages or wursts and that is still true today. This weekend I had some Knockwursts from Boar's Head and they were quite delicious.

Mopeds

In Europe quite a few folks like mopeds or scooters for transportation because they have great fuel economy, plus it is much easier to park them. In the USA though it seems that most folks who ride them do so because they either can't get a license or have lost it. Be careful out there.

We did the mistletoe run in Winston-Salem, NC last Saturday with the boys in the Chariot stroller and it was a bit like running a slalom course. We started at the end of the almost 2,000 starter field for this popular 5k and passed many folks. So here is the video at 4x the speed.

A gas mileage experiment

This 23.1 mpg in the Ford Flex Limited with the Ecoboost was on a drive from Black Mountain, NC all the way to our house in Winston-Salem and we even had to stop for gas and to feed the boys along the way. But it was mostly highway. We usually drive this one downtown with the boys and then just under 16 is more the norm.

This was a mellow drive in the MINI Cooper S from our house in Winston-Salem to the Apple store in Greensboro. Over 33 mpg is certainly very nice for a fast car with a Borla race exhaust, but more typical is a 25 mpg average.
