A new year and so much new tecnology. I am feeling a little overwhelmed. This is fun though. The challenges keep me on my toes.

Snowed In

Yeah! Here we are snowed in again. I really do not mind. Enjoy spending time with the kids. Down time when we can relax a little is a rare thing. We have so many good things in our life I enjoy that too. For today though, It is nice to be home.

Fall

Tonight there is an almost full moon and the coyotes are yipping & howling across the river. I love fall time even though this cold wind makes it hard to get myself out of the house. The leaves on the trees are beautiful. I am so grateful to the Lord for trees. What a blessing they are!

General Conference is tomorrow. I love spending the whole day focusing on it. Too bad there is so much going on. We have calves to feed, Cl & T here to prepare the home site, C. will be painting the fence, the hunters are here coming and going constantly, plus I have a list of stuff to do before I leave next week. Yikes!

Help from Heaven

Today when I was stretched out as far as I could go. I just did not know if I could do any more. The Lord sent me help. A Christian friend of my mother stepped in and gave just what we needed. I love these kind of little miracles. I know the Lord is watching out for my family. I am grateful for his blessings.

Summer Evening

It was so beautiful tonight! The mother deer and her twins passed through the yard. I love the end of summer. I am not ready for it to leave. It takes so long to get the plants in the garden big enough to produce, then before you know it, summer is over. It was perfect, no wind, no eagle, not too many mosquitos, and well, way too many grasshoppers. (Almost perfect.) I wish you could see how beautiful it was here on the river at sunset.

I am trying to decide if I should move Matthew's medical blog from Caringbridge to Blogger. Caringbridge has less options but people can sign up for the e-mail option. Photos are easier on Blogger. Any suggestions?

It is a beautiful day in Wyoming. We are enjoying our last few weeks of warm weather. We are busy as always, preparing for a new school year, planning RS events for fall and the holidays, still getting well from having a family wide flu, preparing the house site, and anxiously waiting to get Matthew's surgery date.

That Darned Dog

The dog took the cat's food bowl. I looked out the window and saw it in her mouth. I ran out to get it from her but before I got to her she had hid it. I know it has to be right there. I can not find it! That was the last cat bowl we had left. Now they are all hidden somewhere

Nature News

Guess what I saw this morning? The turkey mothers and their little chicks have come off the nests. Three mothers with about 15 babies came up on the road this morning. Then I notice that there were more mothers and chicks in the tall grass. They have hatched! No matter what a pest they can be, the chicks are still cute. (They are about as big as a softball with long legs.) And bonus! they eat grasshoppers like crazy.

The Deer had their fawns a few weeks ago. We have 2 deer each with twins that come down here to the river everynight to drink. At first they were really small and spotted. They have about doubled in size since then.

Haying

We are done baling up the hay! We only got half as much as last year, but last year was the biggest hay year ever. We got quite a bit, though. We made it with out it getting hailed on, and before the grasshoppers got so bad. It is always a relief to get that done. The bales still all need gathered up and put into the hay yards. If they are not protected by deer fence, the deer will eat the hay.

2 Miracles on my shift

Today was another beautiful spring day. I had heifer watch again this morning.

#38 had a difficult time but she had a beautiful healthy calf. Unfortunatly she could not get up the delivery left her partially paralyzed. I was alone and worried for her, (sometimes they never can get up).
I was so very excited when she finally got up about an hour later! Her calf was able to get his first drink of milk! It was a happy ending.

The other "miracle" was another adoption. # 64 delivered her calf yesterday but he was dead. She was so worried, she ran up and down and mooed for him all day. This morning we put a calf that was starving with her. She was so contented to finally find "her" baby. She will not even walk a few steps from the new baby. I think she is worried she will misplace it again! The calf had a full tummy and laid down for a nap. They were both content.

A dozen calves a day

This is the time of year it is hard to relax. There is always enough excitement to keep you going. In the tree lot we have 23 pairs. (That is 1 cow & 1 calf.) Today I went out when they were all napping. There were little curled up calves behind almost every sagebrush. I really reminds me of hidden Easter eggs. Up in the big pasture (where the "old" cows are) we are having at least 12 newborns perday. Down here (where the 2 yr old heifers are) we have 2 or 3 per day.

A social life

In the past 2 days - I hosted a finish your project day & taught a mini lesson on ways to get prepared for free. I met with the local homeschool group that is just getting started. And I attended Stake Relief Society training. I have talked to more people in 2 days that I did for the whole month of March!
