Memories of Riot Youth Barrie

What was Riot Youth Barrie.

Riot Youth Barrie was a youth oriented organization that had all ages concerts in 2001 - 2002. Riot Youth Barrie Brought great bands like The Sallies, Constable Brennan, The Class. They also featured local bands like Laugh out Loud, Pink Slip, Tried It, 420, and more.

The History

In 2001, Riot Youth Barrie hald a monthly All Ages concert series at the Barrie Native Friendship Centre. On October 27, 2001 Riot Youth Barrie planned to have a marathon concert and unfortunatly, that concert had to be shortened due to venue rules

Winter 2002, Riot Youth Barrie had a series of concerts at Georgian College's Last Class. These shows were all ages and bands like the Sallies, and more.

Birth of the Messy Church

If you thought the Choclate Bar Church was exciting, you got to love this one. A new breed of church is now born. We now Bring you the Messy Church.

On February 7th, 2012, a new church was born at Westside Lutheran Church. On this Day, The Messy church was born.

What is Messy Church

The Messy Church is a church for all families to get out and get messy. The program features snacks, arts and crafts, games, bible story / drama presentation and a meal. It's fun for all ages and family friendly.

When is Messy Church?

Messy Church will be held on the first Tuesday of each month between 5 - 7 PM.

By Car,

From Toronto, Take 400 to Exit 96 B, Dunlop Street W. Follow dunlop Street West to Ferndale Drive. Make a right turn on Ferndale Drive and follow past the Sandy Hollow Dump and up the hill. The church is on the left hand side of Ferndale Drive and Livingston Street.

By Barrie Transit:

From the Downtown Terminal

Board the 10 Livingston Bus at the Downtown Barrie Terminal. Disembark the Livingston Bus at Cundles at Livingston. Walk west on Livingston Street one block and you will see the church on your left hand side.

From Georgian College:

Board the 20 RVH bus at Georgian College. Disembark at Livingston at Cundles and walk west one block on Livingston Street and you will see the church on the left hand side.

Opening Night Review

On February 7th, the Messy Church had a wonderful opening night where the kids got to do paint a heart by mixing brown, green, and yellow or play a game of Organize the Smarties. The performance featured musial numbers like Old Mc Donald's Farm, and Johnny Appleseed. To wrap up the evening, a pasta dinner served with garlic bread. If you find Church Boring, come out to the Messy Church.

Ebombs made their second attempt at having an after hours in Barrie in 2003 at the Den Nightclub on the Friday and Saturday nights for a few weeks

Frantic After Effects -- An after hours event that the Ebombs squad attempted to throw and it only lasted a short time

Afterburner -- This after hours event started in the winter of 2003 and it ended in the spring due to slow attendance.

ebombs entertainment is now looking for dj's again who are looking to get some promo, exposure, or just good ole plain set times to play at a variety of ebombs events here in the Barrie area.

The last time we made such a post was in July of 2002, and we recieved a great deal of response and interest from those who weren't seeking mass cash payouts, but were looking for a new environment and a place to spin and gain exposure.

It has taken us 8 months to accomodate all those who emailed us for set times.

Aprox. 150 DJ's have come through the doors of frantic fridays to lay down sets of their choosing and no demo CD's were required.

Our statement last July 2002 was, anyone who wishes to come play can and will. I think we hit around 98% of those who had contacted me.

Many came up here for free, and many left here with gas money or atleast their expenses and drinks paid for. As we charge a maximum of $5 cover with a general cover of $3. This even includes the many headliners we have had.

Frantic fridays was established to accomodate the dj of all levels,

to provide a place for dj's to spin on a great sound system, and be surrounded by those of similar interests. In the past and in the present many promoters were the ones at risk for loosing money for attempting to promote the scene.

At this stage, as there has been a huge drop in the attendences in the whole spectrum of this industry or the past couple years, it is my conclusion that "cash hungry dj's" , " Coporate take over" and "sell out Promoters" were the reason behind this decrease in the electronic music culture.

Ebombs is trying to position itself in Barrie and hoefully soon in toronto, to attempt to rebuild and or to help those who wish to get this market back up to par without the aid of "large over paid dj's" but rather focus on our local scene at hand.

This means more support for local dj's and those who wish to help rebuild.

i encourage other promoter to follow suit to a certain degree, by simply giving others outside of yoru crew a chance to play and a chance for them to gain exposure. Many DJ 's are not looking for alot of money to play. They would just like the opportunity.

Right now Ebombs offers its decks to all those who desire set times. We are slowly expanding the barrie market through this concept.

Yeh we lost our friday night after almost 2 years.

I handed them a 40 pages proposel to make it even better, and they turned it down out of egotism.

No notice, and leaving me with a hatiras contract ,which i will honor as soon as we get our new venue.

It wasnt that the night was hurting, we had just changed format in teh main room and they didn;t see the potential of the plan i submited, so i quit my full time employment with them.

Two weeks ago, we lost another house night at FITZY's on mondays which lasted 6 years.

Then this week, Dv8 also lost its saturday night, so there really isn;t anything left in Barrie.

Im not sure if im going to hit up another club here, or wait until i can open my own. Im bounded by peoples lack of vision, and must do things for our selves.

I think its been long enough where promoters from all over the place get ripped off for trying to do things at clubs.

We shall see, in the mean time we are putting out a little magazine, nothing too fancy, and it will be affordable for all those you need to promote their endevours with minimal expense,

were not doing this one for profit, its mainly to help everyone

rebuild or aid or efforts in the scene which is slowly fading away, on all fronts.

SO if anyone out there wishes to get involved in writing or phototography etc, please contact me or adorable homeboy anytime.

Grade IX

When I was in Grade 9, I listened to great tunes on Energy 108, 107.9 FM. There was a great 20 minute street mix known as the 9:00 Hard Drive. This Street Mix featured hard tunes like Insomnia, and more. There was a few time stretch tracks in the mix too.

Nintendo Lines

What is a Nintendo Line?

A Nintendo Line is a word I made up when I was in Elementry School. A Nintendo Line is a hand drawn map of a stage, or level from a video games.

Why Did I draw Nintendo Lines in elementry school?

In 1991, My grandfather got me the 8 Bit Nintendo and I loved side-scrolling games like Super Mario Brothers, Zelda II the Adventures of Link, and Mega Man. As I got into 8 bit gaming, I grabbed a blank piece of paper and started drawing up my own maps from scratch for video games.

Synopsis

After learning they had to pay royalties to do someone else’s play; a group of ladies decide to write their own murder mystery. One member believes that “Anybody can write a murder”, while another immediately begins trying to strangle the rest, “just to figure out how to do it”. Come out and be apart of the wise-cracking mayham during “The Marquis Crossing Ladies Society’s First Attempt At Murder”.

The Campus Response Team at Georgian College

A long time ago, before Robert Joy stepped foot on stage at Georgian College Theatre, I was a volunteer in Georgian College's Campus Response Team. The Campus Response Team was a college St. John Ambulance team that would respond and perform first aid if needed during the school day. the Campus Response Team was referred as CRT as short.

The Famouse CRT Ceiling in the SAC Office. When I looked at thise ceiling in September 2002, I wanted to wear the ear piece that the CRT had.

The Campus Response Team members were Identified by their red golf shirts that had the team name on the left breast. CRT Members also wore a red photo ID badge. The CRT has a hallway office in the back of the SAC office outside the boardroom. The first aid bags and Kenwood Radios were stored in a cabnet. CRT Members will meet and pick up their radios and first aid bags before heading onto shift.

What did CRT Members do during the School day

CRT Members will attend class as usual. They will carry a Kenwood 2-Way radio with them all shift long. If you are in class, and you receive a call, you will slip out of class and see what needs to be done. CRT Members had to take their Level C Standard First Aid including Adult, child, and Infant CPR. CRT Members also had to do the BTS test. The BTS was a St. John Ambulance Practical test that tests the first aid skills on every first aid from Emergency Scene Managament to the Secondary Survey.

TLC / Special Events Duties

During the school year, CRT members had optional events in the TLC (The Last Class). CRT members got to watch concerts and enjoy non-alocholic beverages during the evening while on duty. You are responsible to respond if something comes up. My first TLC Duty was XXX Tony Lee Hypnotist. during that evening there was no problems and I got to enjoy the funny show from the balcony. I also did a Concert and I was lucky to wear the ear piece for that evening.

The CRT also did other duties like the Orientation Week. CRT Members were out on duty at various Orientation events on campus.

What did the Ear Piece look like?

The ear piece had a large ear Push to Talk button that clipped to the belt and it hooked up to a Kenwood radio. The ear piece itself was larger than an earbud and it felt uncomfortable when you put it in your ear. When you want to talk, you push the large button and talk. The microphone was attached to the earpiece and you feel like that you are a secret service agent. I only got to wear the Ear Piece only once becasue Tamara Jones said the it needed to be cleaned.

What Happened to the CRT

In the spring of 2003, the CRT has disolved into thin air. Tamama Jones asked me for my CRT shirt and badge which I still have. I kept the shirt because Tamara Jones skipped town. In the fall of 2003, the CRT was no longer, I was the last member of the CRT with a red shirt on campus. I worn the shirt to school on occasion because i loved the shirt. During that school year, I partook in weekly meetings at the St. John Ambulance, downtown Barrie

9 Years Later

Nin Years before Rober Joy Stepped foot on stage, I was a Member of the CRT (Campus Response Team) at Georgian College

Rober Joy Stepped onstage and I got to give him a hug. I got to return to Georgian college to volunteer with Theatre by the Bay and Meet Robert Joy for the first time and hug Micheal Rawley.

My Experience of volunteering at the Famous People Players in Toronto

October 24th 2007

On October 24th, 2007, I decided to volunteer and see what it was like to volunteer at the Famous People Players Theatre in Toronto.

The main setting where Famous People Players volunteers is the famous Windreach Dining Room. Volunteers were expected to wear black pants, dress shirt, and shoes. Don't forget the white bow tie

All Volunteers and actors will enter the theatre via the stage door.

Volunteer Orientation Run-Down

When you work as a volunteer at the Famous People Players, you will be exptected to a black button up dress shirt, black vest, black pants, and a white bow tie.

Volunteer Tasks

When on duty, the number one task you must do is wash your hands because you are working on the floor of a restaurant.

Appitizer / Main Course

Once everyone arrives in the dining room, the volunteers will help serve the tables. Once dinner was served, it was time for the partrons to enjoy the show in the Phil Collins Theatre.

Turnover

If you were a loyal Theatre By the Bay volunteer, you get the benefit to see the show. At the Famous People Players Theatre, you will be stuck working in the dining room resetting the tables for dessert. your tasks are to scrape crumbs off tables and remove dirty main course dishes.

Dessert

The chef places the desserts on a buffet table in the centre of the dining room.Volunters will help out in serving coffee and tea.

Clean Up

All volunteers get to pitch in the closing task of the day. All volunteers will help sweep and vacuum the restaurant.

Other Tidbits

Volunteers will have their meal breaks in the Back Stage of the Phil Collins' Theatre. The common area has a large table that everyone sits around and microwaves to warm up your home brought food. You have to be 100% self suffcent when you volunteer at Famous People Players.

The Draw Backs and Conclusions

When I volunteered for the Famous People Players back in 2007, I had to pack a lunch or go to a near by restaurant to eat. If you were lucky, the chef may have some food left over for you to enjoy like spuds or peas. Volunteers do not get to see the show because they are busy scraping crumbs off tables during Turn Over. If you want a glass of water during your shift, you are resposible to bring your own bottle and store it in the coffee / Tea room.

I rather volunteer for Theatre by the bay and I get to watch better shows like The Tempest, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Etc. If you volunteer for Theatre By the Bay, You will get the opportunity to hug Micheal Rawley.

December 7, 2011 Viewing

On December 7, 2011, I scored a chance to see this wonderful show at the Old Town Hall Theatre because I know a few actors in the show. Around Dusk, We were on the highway heading towards the city. By 5:00 PM We arrived at the Town Hall Theatre and I got to meet a few new people and some old friends from Christmas Cafe', Aladdin, Music Music Music, etc. At 7:15 PM the cast performed their favorite Warm-Up Songs like Mi Me Maw Mo Mu, and Number Song. When you watch theatre, you will never get a chance to listne to warm-up songs unless you are in the show singing them yourself. Another great warm-up song I love is Bella. At 7:30, PM the show was underway. Once the Curtain rose, it was time to take a Trip onboard the Space Shuttle to the Planet Z and Flarth to meet Flash Gordon and Snow White through song and dance. Everyone will love to hear about a place where you drink brown stuff at a place called Hortons'.

Haunted Houses Vs Hell Houses, Please visit a haunt that is safe and trustworthy

The Legend of Hell House

Legend has it, Fundamentalist Christian Churches down in Southern U.S of A decided to take their own spin on haunted attractions. If you are crazy enough to visit Hell House, you will be in for a surprise.

What should you expect to see in a Haunted Attraction?

If you are familiar with haunted attractions like The Power House of Terror, or Screemers you should see beautiful zombies, clowns, ghosts, goblins. Their elements of scare include making noise and being unexpected.

This zombie emerging from behind a crate is one of the beauties of visiting a haunted attraction.

What is a Hell House?

A Hell House has the same features of a traditional haunted house including actors, props, etc. One of the key differences is the element of the Scare. These haunted attractions are run by fundamentalist Christians in the Bible Belt. Within these haunts, the actors will portray scenes of violence, satanic rituals, drug use, homosexuality, etc. Many Hell House attractions may contain scenes that are too graphic and disturbing.

Wikipedia's Definition,

"Hell houses are haunted attractions typically run by American, fundamentalist Christian churches or parachurch groups. These depict sin, the torments of the damned in Hell, and usually conclude with a depiction of heaven. They are most typically operated in the days preceding Halloween." (hell house - wikipedia)

Elements of Scare

The Elements of Scare are not your typical Power House of Terror Scares. Each scene inside the Hell House, the actors will re-create scenes of reality and sin. They will scare you so much because if you do not accept Christ you could go to hell in a Hand Basket. Almost all of the scenes are very graphic and disturbing. Did you know that the key person in each scene dies and goes to hell. Towards the end of the maze, there are scenes that depict Heaven and Hell. You may arrive at the Pearly Gates of Heaven and find out that you have been cast into hell. Once you enter Hell, you will meet Satan himself. Following the Scene of Hell you will enter a plain room which is known as the Decision Room.

The Decision Room

After getting through the Hell House, a church member or pastor will talk to the group and ask you the scariest question ever. "Where do you think you are going when you die?" This question is a major thinker because many people who went through the haunt are very unsure. The pastor may give you a 10 seconds to proceed to the next room where prayer councilors will talk to you 1 on 1 and accept Christ into your life.

Can you Chicken out of a Hell House?

No Chickens Allowed, Cannot exit Hell House due to Safety Concerns

All traditional haunted attractions have fire exits to use in case of a fire. If you are a chicken and you want to exit the Power House of Terror, a Rover will help you Chicken out. Unfortunately, a rover will not come to the rescue if you need to chicken out of a Hell House in Texas. The reason you cannot chicken out of Hell House is a safety concern. Once you enter, you must go through the Hell Houseand listen to a brief fire and brimstone sermon at the exit.

My Conclusions

I rather visit the Power House of Terror, Screemers, or Erebus Haunted attractions because their Elements of Scare are just plain fun and games. If I took my children to a Hell House thinking it was a traditional haunt, my children could be traumatized for a long time. Children do not deserve to see botched abortions, people killed in car crashes, etc.

Going to a haunt this Halloween

Insidious is on the safe list because it is a part of the Power House of Terror.

If you are going to a haunt, you better do the research before you go. If the haunt is run by any church or religious organization, you better steer clear of it. Make sure that the haunt you plan to visit is on the safe list before you venture out.

October 31, 2011, Happy Halloween

This is the closing night of the Power House of Terror. After Halloween wraps up, it's time for uphill skiing and the Christmas Holidays.

This Half Scary, Half Non-Scary face gets in a car. He is on his way to Much Music for the Final Push for Ticket Sales for the Power House of Terror

The Butcher of Quarantine Prison puts on his gloves. He will be preparing eyeballs, arms, and other fresh meat for the zombies.

Would you like to Play a Game. The Game Caller invites the guests of Carn Evil Manor to play a game and win one of these stuffed animals. Unfortunatly, lot of carnival games, claw games are rigged. Many carnival games do not pay out frequently or they do not make any money.

The Warden's office of Quarantine Prison. Serious damage has been done to a fireproof cabnet.

Over the Halloween Weekend, I was a beautiful zombie within the Quarantine Attraction for another barrel of scares. There were plenty of laughs and screams as the people passed through. One lady said I was the cutest zombie she ever saw.

The End of the World according to Harold Camping's prophetic date has came and gone. Now let's look at some Beautiful zombies from the Toronto Zombie Walk of 2011.

This cute zombie has a zip-down chest. She can close her chest up if she does not want to expose the beauty within.

A bunch of zombies gather in Trinity Bellwoods Park for the Wedding of Thea Munster and Adam Invader in the style of a Funeral Service.

The Pallbearers carry the casket of Thea Munster through the crowd of zombies before the funeral service begins.

Thea Munster Emerges from the casket. A good sign that she came back to life. Fortunatly there was no burial service following this funeral service.

Following the Funeral, Thea Munster tossed the Severed Head into the Crowd and the Zombie Walk of 2011 was underway. Look, there's a walking hamberger.

I returned to Toronto's Terrifying Haunted House for my first round of scares as a zombie. The Power House of Terror has three attractions you can visit for only 20 Smackers at the door. The three attractions are

1. Insidious

All your Fears will be discovered within the darkness of Insidious.

2 Quarentine

An outbreak of the Z1 virus has occurred in Toronto. The people who are infected are housed in a special prison and they are offering public tours. Within the walls, do not touch anybody in case you may get infected by the virus yourself.

3. CarnEvil Manor

The CarnEvil Manor is a residence for the carnies of a local carnival. Enter their home, you will be in for a surprise.

October 23, 2011

I got to the haunt extra early to take some photos before I had to get into position for a second round of scares in the Quarantine attraction. At dusk I got into position and had the scare to myself for the first time. It was challenging to do and I was very successful at scaring the living daylights out of people as they past through. I will be back at the haunt on Thursday, October, 27, 2011.

It's much safer to explore the haunt in the daylight. Once the sun sets, the monsters take havoc on the guests who visit. Enter if you Dare!

Passing through a cornfield on the way out of Insidious and Carn Evil Manor. Watch out, lumber jacks are cutting trees down for their camp fire.

Within the walls of Quarantine Prison. Their cafeteria has great food for the inmates and guests who dare to visit.

That spider is waiting for its prey. Do not get too close, it could bite you. Its venom is very toxic, I warned you.

A bunch of crates sit piled darken woods. There are no treasures, gold, or jewels hidden within these crates.

The Statue stands guard on the entryway to Insidious. Be careful.

What is the best way to experience any haunted house/attraction?

Go through the haunted house at at time when the line up is minimal. Arrive early, to get to the front of the line. If you do arrive late, hopefully the Queue Master will hold the line for the people ahead of you to move deeper into the dungeon before your journey begins. If the Queue Master lets too many people into the attraction at once, the scare can be ruined for the people in the back of the group. Best to wait a few minutes before proceeding in. Fortunately, the ticket sales for Power House of Terror are capped at 2,000 and you may not have to worry about too many people going through at once.

What Doese Bourse Mean?

I was doing some laundary at the Dryertheatre (Laundromat), I saw a poster for a Stamp Collection / Show in the city of Barrie. There was a word that caught my eye on the poster.

The Title of the poster read,

"50th Annual Barrie Stamp Show & Bourse"

What Did Bourse Mean to me?

When I saw the word Bourse, I thought they mis-typed the word Course. In my Eyes the poster should have read, "50th Annual Barrie Stamp Show & Course." I thought that the Annual Barrie Stamp show was offering a course on stamp collecting and exchange for beginners.

What doese Bourse mean?

Bourse may be refered to an exchange (Organized market), or a stamp show without exhibits (dealers only),

At High Noon, David shut down the Psytrance Tent. The Dj fussed about why David shut their party down. Dave replied "I gave you tow extra hours this year." The Psytrance Tent always shuts down at High Noon every year except for 2008. In 2008 the Psytrance tent got to play until 2:00 PM because Shakedown Lighting and Sound got their van stuck on a ridge.

DJ Onslaude played for the final four hours in the Pyramid. The afternoon was full of great music, dancing and beer bottle collecting for the Volunteer / Crew Dinner at the Swiss Country house.

Yellow Magic is a great record to dance to because the music sounded like an old school video game from the Commodore 64

The Plya was hopping on the Sunday afternoon Pyramid. It's almost like being at Burning Man. I never been to Burning Man myself. I am hoping to go for 2012.

At one occasion, people were climbing up the Pyramid. The shadows were moving to the music as they scaled the structure.

During the afternoon, a small dust storm blew across the plya. Fortunatly there was no need to duck for cover like In Black Rock City

For the entire afternoon, the front flap of the pyramid was raised to let the cool air circulate after a long cold night.

The Pioneer Mixer is covered in plya dust by the end of the party.

After the party wrapped up, it's time to pack up and head home for the Halloween Season at the Power House Of Terror or Screemers
