Why Should You Have a Responsive Website?

Responsive websites are becoming very popular and the growth rate of people talking about and using this in their sites is fast becoming the norm. So, why should you be using a responsive website?

More and more people are using mobile devices such as Smartphones and tablets of all different screen size. Some people will try to view your website in portrait mode whilst others will view it in landscape mode. This means that your website should be responding to the way people are viewing your site, that way you will always have a very happy customer.

A lot of people are still viewing websites with a desktop screen, these screens vary a lot in size. Especially now with HD smart Televisions, you never know just what screen is being used to view your website.

This is where responsive website design comes in, if your site can respond to certain changes in a screen size and what mode it's in then you can serve your website to 100% of web users out there. People have always been penalizing certain users who view sites on certain devices and this should no longer be the case. Web designers and developers should be focusing on getting their site viewable to as many potential customers as possible, and it's so easy to get into it.

If you are someone who is dreading the idea of going into responsive design, then you could use Bootstrap or Foundation to help with the foundation of your website. Once you have your site looking good within the main audience you are targeting then start going through to smaller or larger devices depending on which way you want to go.

It all starts with media queries in your CSS, but if you don't know what CSS or HTML is then you should start there and go from the basics. It's really easy to start learning and get to grips with web design that it should only take a couple of weeks for you to start building a simple website from start to finish.

There are many great tutorials out there for you to get started. Books are also great for purchasing and reading into as they can usually contain a lot more detail than most tutorials on the internet.

Or of you haven't got the time then why don't you hire someone to build your Website? There are a lot of great Freelancers and companies out there who could help serve your needs for the website of your dreams.

1 Month and no Post, Twitter, Website, The Descent Part 2.

Oh dear, I have not made a blog post in almost a month which is kinda bad on my part, but with Christmas nearing, can you blame me? :p

For some who don't quite know yet, I have been adding many improvements on my website which will make it less buggy and more accessible through the web. Last week I went to the Cinema to see The Descent Part 2 which was a pretty awesome film and made me jump multiple times. It carried on from what had happened in the first one and gives you quite a few surprises which you probably wouldn't have guessed would happen. Overall an amazing film and I would recommend you go to see it.

That's all I am going to share in this post as there has been a lot of stuff going on and more to come from both what I have been up to in the past month and what I am doing in the present time. Goodbye for now. :)

The past week has had it's ups and downs, College is going pretty well and I am still learning great new things from it. I found out that it shouldn't be long till I can have my driving test, it's estimated round January time and as for my lesson, they're going quite well. I'm definitely improving on my confidence and gear changing but still tend to panic every so often. On Friday Josh and Tiff drove down for a visit which made me really happy, and later on Jason came a long so we could all celebrate his birthday in style, although it didn't go quite as planned I still think he enjoyed his weekend.

During the weekend I downloaded Windows 7 and tried updating it through XP but it wouldn't allow me because you could only upgrade when on Vista. I thought of ways to install it and figured I would need to format the hard drive but I wanted to do this without losing any of my files. I tried installing Ubuntu on the same hard drive to dual boot and then transfer all the files from one hard drive to another. Unlucky for me, this idea didn't go quite to plan as I corrupted the hard drive and needed another way of doing it so I uninstalled Ubuntu and used the Ubuntu demo on the disc to transfer all my files from one hard drive to another. Thankfully all went to plan and I now have Windows 7! :D

Ever since I left Barclay House I have been looking for another job and it has been more difficult than I thought, I must have applied for over 50 places and been re-applying to certain ones. I keep re-checking and re-doing my CV to make it better but I still get nothing. I recently applied for Homebase and they declined me so it just seems as though I must be doing something wrong or there's something I'm missing and I'm even doubt if I'll actually get another job. :(

When Jason came down he brought with him Assassins Creed 2 which believe is one of the best games out this year, it truly is amazing. It does take a while to get into, but that is only for the story line because it goes into so much detail. The action is immense and is definitely a true step up from the first game. I would give it

Website Recreation, Funny Photoshop and Bad News.

This week has been full of ups and downs for me and all shall be spoke about now. :)

First of all in my Web Production we got given an exercise to recreate the Treharden web page using CSS and html and I was proudly the first person to complete the task on the day. :D

Secondly, I did a few Photoshop Tutorials in lesson and one of them I had to remove this person on the floor using "vanishing point" and at the end of it I decided to mess around with it and make it look as though he has paint on top of him. :p

Lastly for this post and this part is the bad news... A few weeks ago I got given a rescued kitty and he was so cute, I adored him so much. Then after a while he started to become very ill and we couldn't take him to the vets because we have absolutely no money so we thought we could leave him and buy him a few things to try and help him get better.

The day before yesterday he looked as though he was starting to perk up a bit but was drinking a lot more water then usual which I thought was a bit odd but didn't really think anything of it.

I woke up yesterday and took a shower then thought I should take a look to see how Merlin was doing, and to my surprise I found him laying there lifeless, I picked him up and he was as stiff as a board, I was shocked and upset and ran outside to tell my mum then she came in and started crying as well. We were both as shocked as each other, I then text my girlfriend Tiff and she was just as upset. Later on that day I got back home from college dreading the thought of coming back to a dead kitten and having to bury him and as I got in the house mum suggested burrying him the next day when it was light which I agreed on. We were all still very upset at this point, but we settled down in the front room and after a while Josh and Tiff decided to surprise me and it made me soo happy to see them both.

Today I had to go into the back garden and bury him which was really upsetting, but it had to be done and now hopefully he has gone to a better place. RIP Merlin.

Fireworks Tutorial: Joining Text to Paths.

This is my first ever tutorial on Macromedia/Adobe Fireworks so I'm gonna make it a nice and simple tutorial and if it isn't that good then go easy on me.

In this tutorial we will be attaching text to paths, it's a very quick and simple job, but is also very helpful in anything you may want to be doing.

1. Create a text box and write anything you want inside it.

2. Use the pen tool and create a path, this is the path which the text go a long, so depending on what you do here will affect the text itself later on.

3. Holding the shift button, select both the text and the path layer.

4. Next, press control, shift + Y to add the text to the path layer.

5. Change the Kerning settings to push the the text more to the right, making it look less squashed.

I have set myself the goal of creating a CSS website using the skills I have gained from St Austell College plus more. As I step further than the goals which have been set by at College I shall try and create myself a wonderful Website which will allow me to show people my creative and technical skills of Web Design. What I have on my site is only the beginning as I will be adding PHP and Javascript and more onto it as soon as I start learning about it. I will also update this Blog at least once a week, hopefully it will be more than this, but that's my goal.

Ok, so I haven't been able to put one of these up for so long because I have been so busy with work and college, and I just couldn't get in the mood to make one. I'll start off with talking about college... I was not able to do level 3 animal care at Duchy because they thought that I wasn't ready for it. So now I have moved onto St Austell college studying I.C.T level 2, and the course is quite good (although some stuff of which has been taught I have already known about, but I suppose that what you get in most courses any way). I have made some real good friends already, and am still making more, so its all good :D. I managed to be in the student union after having to elect myself 3 times for certain reasons.

As well as being at college on weekdays, I have also had work at weekends which involves being in a hotel cleaning all the rooms, very boring job I know, but at least it pays. It seems weird talking about this now when I have been working all through the Summer hollidays, just shows how much time and how long it has taken me to get into the right mental state to start writing, but anway, to the point. The Hotel is now starting to get more quiet so that means I'll be having a day off each weekend rotating from saturdays and sundays which means some weekends I'll be having saturdays off and other weekends I'll be having sundays off which means I can have more time with my friends outside of college! Amen to that.

Today I have been feeling quite ill and have been puking in the toilet... YUCK! I am now wondering whether to go down to get some chips, I know the fresh air will do me good, but as for the chips, eating them could possibly start making me throw up again because of the grease :S. I think I shall go take a trip down town after writing this and updating my website.
