NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – There might be trouble brewing behind the glassy eyes of kids who spend too much time and energy on video games, according to a controversial new study.

In the 2-year study of more than 3,000 school children in Singapore, researchers found nearly one in ten were video game "addicts," and most were stuck with the problem.

While these kids were more likely to have behavioral problems to begin with, excessive gaming appeared to cause additional mental woes.

"When children became addicted, their depression, anxiety, and social phobias got worse, and their grades dropped," said Douglas A. Gentile, who runs the Media Research Lab at Iowa State University in Ames and worked on the study.

"When they stopped being addicted, their depression, anxiety, and social phobias got better."

He said neither parents nor healthcare providers are paying enough attention to video games' effect on mental health.

"We tend to approach it as 'just' entertainment, or just a game, and forget that entertainment still affects us," he told Reuters Health in an e-mail. "In fact, if it doesn't affect us, we call it 'boring!'"

But an independent expert said the study had important flaws.

"My own research has shown that excessive video game play is not necessarily addictive play and that many video gamers can play for long periods without there being any negative detrimental effects," said Mark Griffiths, director of the International Gaming Research Unit at Nottingham Trent University in the UK.

"If nine percent of children were genuinely addicted to video games there would be video game addiction clinics in every major city!" he said in an e-mail, adding that the concept is not currently an accepted diagnosis among psychiatrists and psychologists.

Part of the problem, Griffiths argued, is that the new work may be measuring preoccupation instead of addiction.

In the study, teachers handed out questionnaires to students in the third, fourth, seventh and eighth grades, including questions about their gaming habits, social skills, school performance and depression.

The kids also answered ten questions to find out if they were addicted to gaming -- so-called "pathological" gamers. If they answered half in the positive, they got the label.

The questions included things like having neglected household chores to spend more time on video games, doing poorly on a school assignment or test as a result, or playing video games to escape from problems or bad feelings.

On average, the kids said they played about 20 hours a week. Between 9 and 12 percent of boys qualified as addicted in this study, compared to 3 to 5 percent of girls.

Of those children who started out as addicts, more than eight in 10 remained so during the study. "It's not simply a short-term problem for most children," Gentile said.

While the researchers didn't put a number on how many youngsters had mental problems, they did find that those who played longer hours, were more impulsive or had poorer social skills were at higher risk of getting "addicted" over the 2-year period.

Those who did become addicted reported increasing symptoms of depression, anxiety and social phobia.

Gentile said it appeared that unhealthy gaming habits were fueling the kids' mental problems, which then in turn might cause them to up their screen time and so forth. But he acknowledged his research didn't prove that point.

In an earlier U.S. study, he found that children who watched a lot of TV or played a lot of video games had slightly more problems concentrating on school work. However, that study couldn't prove that screen time was at the root of the narrowing attention span, either.

The American Academy of Pediatrics, which published the new study in its journal Pediatrics, recommends limiting children's time in front of computers or TVs to 2 hours daily.

"One thing we have to bear in mind is that children playing video games for 2 to 3 hours a day is normal. It's displaced activities like watching TV," Griffiths said.

Still, he said a small minority of kids probably do suffer from true video game addiction, just as some people are pathological gamblers.

In general, Griffith advises that parents try to give their kids educational games instead of violent ones, encourage playing in groups, and follow the directions from the manufacturers, such as sitting at least two feet from the screen and not playing when feeling tired.

"I have three kids, all of who are the archetypal 'screenagers' who spend a lot of time a day interacting with technology" said Griffiths. "Basically, even when playing a couple of hours most days it is not impinging negatively on their lives."

It looks like they are growing upside-down; the roots are seen up in the air, and not in the ground as they are supposed to be. The so-called Baobab tree grows mostly in Africa and Australia, but only in low-lying areas.

The legend about the tree says that god Thora dislike his Baobab that was growing in his garden, so he took it and threw it over the wall of Paradise so it landed up-side down on the Earth.

These trees can get amazingly high, up to 30 meters, and they have a trunk diameter up to 11 meters; that means that they are giant trees. African people love the Baobab trees because they can be used as shelter, water reservoirs or grain storage.

The trees are not young, they are said that they get several thousands years old.
By Rebecca Dube
Hey working moms, are you stressed out? Overworked and busy? Well, millionaire movie star Gwyneth Paltrow knows just how you feel.
Yes, Paltrow has done it again: given everyone "a massive case of the stabbies," in the words of TheFrisky.com. On her web site, GOOP, she claims a reader e-mailed her about balancing career and motherhood. (Just a theory: Gwyneth got one of those "Moms: Make $$$ working from home!" e-mails and mistook it for a personal entreaty.) It got Gwynnie thinking about "other extremely busy working mothers I know." Oh yes, she said other -- as in, other extremely busy working mothers like her, the fabulously wealthy movie star wife of a rock star. Just so we can all see how it’s done, she gives us the run-down of a typical “manic” day in her life.
Long story short: Get kids off to school, work out, shower, rehearsal for Country Music Awards, dress fittings, phone calls, make cupcakes with kids, put kids to bed, girls’ night out. God, it’s like she looked into my day planner… and my SOUL!
Gwyneth has, predictably, drawn criticism for thinking that her extremely privileged life bears any resemblance to that of an ordinary working mother. However, her GOOP essay includes some fascinating nuggets, including these three Gwyneth facts:
1. She has a time-travelling portal in her kitchen. According to her "day in the life," her 4.5-year-old son Moses wakes at 8 a.m., and she needs to leave the house with Moses and 6-year-old Apple at 8:20. These are the things she does in 20 minutes: makes eggs and toast for Moses, "followed by a spoonful of lemon flavored flax oil," gets children dressed, packs and finishes decorating shoe boxes filled with toys for less fortunate children (their mothers probably don't give them lemon flax oil). And they make it to school on time! The laws of time and space bend before the will of mighty Gwyneth.
2. Magical elves drive her car, clean her house and watch her children at night. She's quite the multi-tasker in the car, answering e-mails, conducting interviews and doing voice exercises. "Fellow drivers looked on a bit bewildered," she reports. Maybe she means the fellow who IS her driver looked bewildered. But there's no mention of a driver or servants, nor of babysitters when she leaves home for a "girl's night out." Then again, maybe she leaves her 4- and 6-year-old children home alone to go party with the girls, because she's just gangsta like that.
3. She understands multitasking. "Did dance aerobics for 45 minutes then all of the butt lifts and the like. Rushed upstairs to have a shower, doing my post workout stretch while the conditioner was doing its magic on my hair to combine activities/save time." Wait, you stretched your butt muscles WHILE conditioning your hair?! Have the MacArthur genius grants all been given away this year? She has so much to teach us.
We’re almost afraid to ask, but what do you think of Gwyneth’s “extremely busy working mom” post? Got any tips for real working moms?

This feast was created by the pope to promote Christianity and remove pagan festivals celebrated at the winter solstice.
During the IVth century, the pope decided to bring the Christmas day on December 25th.

Christmas has always been represented by religious ceremonies and gifts and
greetings exchange.

Here are some Christmas symbols:

* The Advent consists of a burning candle each Sunday four weeks before Christmas;

which symbolize the rebirth of light after the winter solstice.

* The December 24th Christmas Mass; which celebrates the birth of Jesus.

* The Christmas Crib; which symbolizes the birth of Jesus in Christian homes.

* The Christmas tree, a symbol from the pagan celebration and representing life.

* The Yule log; which represents the log that we put in the fireplace to warm up on Christmas Eve.

* Santa Claus, an American creation, inspired by the Christian Saint Nicholas (celebrated in Belgium, Netherlands, Germany and Alsace. This character wears a luxurious red cape, he has a long white beard and wears a red miter, he also holds a golden crosier. Saint Nicholas rewards good children while his companion Pere Fouettard/Black Pete punishes nasty children) and the elf Yule Goat, celebrated in Scandinavian countries.

Over the centuries, Christmas has evolved and Christmas Eve with our family, replaced the religious ceremonies.

The gift exchange: luxurious for the rich people and useful - sometimes only one orange - for the poor people, has been replaced by the modern marketing. People not only buys gifts but also spend lots of money in decoration items, food, drink...

The secularization of our society removed the true meaning of Christmas Time; which is, obviously, becoming a pagan feast.

Here are some countries which celebrate Christmas:

Belgium: Belgians have a festival especially dedicated to children; which is Saint Nicholas (Sinter Klaas) on December 6th. The Great Patron of Schoolboys, who is supposed to bring candies in their shoes, brings in fact toys by the thousands to our children.

In Belgium, Christmas is rather reserved for adults: the streets are decorated and illuminated, we decorate our houses, windows, gardens, Christmas trees. Belgium seems to forget that it is a Catholic country and closes more and more churches, therefore, the Midnight Mass on December 24th usually happens at 6 or 8 PM. We then eat with our family and at 12 PM we exchange our gifts. Children usually receive a book or some clothes.

Christmas Day has little meaning but practicing Catholic go to church. Belgian people visit their family on January 1st. In the Belgian Ardens, people celebrate December 31st and not Christmas.

France: Christmas is dedicated to children. The streets and the houses are decorated several weeks in advance. French people have lots of Christmas customs: Christmas Markets, the Christmas tree, the Christmas Dinner, Père Noël, Christmas gifts, stories, songs, Christmas turkey, The Christmas Crib, the Yule Log, and so on. In Alsace, however, Saint Nicholas predominates on Santa Claus.

The Netherlands: They organize their St. Nicholas (Sinter Klaas) festival: the old bearded man traveling by boat and accompanied by many black aids, who distributes gifts to good children. Dutch people reserve the big gifts for Christmas Time because they profit for some great bargains after Sinter Klaas.

Germany: Christmas in Germany lasts two days. On December 26th they visit their family and their friends. Christ-Kind offers gifts to the children on December 24th families and friends. Germany has also a Saint Nicholas festival on December 6th.

Great Britain: Christmas is celebrated in England with enthusiasm. Children sing "Christmas Carols" in the streets, they eat the famous "Christmas Pudding" at the end the Christmas Dinner. In England, Santa Claus fills the English children socks with gifts. British people also exchange greeting cards; which are a British creation.

Spain: If Santa Claus has little importance in Spain (Magi distribute gifts to children on January 6th), Spanish people decorate the streets with lights during the month of December. The windows of the shops are filled with lots of gifts and Spanish celebrate the Christmas Evening with their family.

Portugal: Christmas Eve is a holiday. The Portuguese attend the Christmas Midnight Mass; which is the "Missa Do Galo." If there is no Christmas tree in Portugal, there is nevertheless a "Wooden Christmas".

Italy: Christmas lasts three days, from December 24th till 26th. However, Christmas traditions vary from one region to another one and, depending on the region it is Babo Natale (Father Christmas) or the "Gesu Bambino" (Little Jesus) who brings gifts on December 25th. The Italian Christmas dessert is "Panettone".

Scandinavian Countries: During the Christmas Dinner, Scandinavian people reserve a place for the souls of the deceased members of their family. Once they finish to eat, they read the bible. The whole family is singing Christmas songs and dance around the Christmas tree.

Other European countries: In Romania, on December 24th, there is a Christmas candle burning until the morning of December 25th. In Russia, Christmas Day happens on January 7th, according to the Orthodox calendar. In Greece the Christmas period begins on Christmas Eve and ends at the Epiphany. Christmas is less important than Easter.

USA: The Saturday after Thanksgiving, Santa Claus is coming to announce the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. American people love to celebrate Christmas and set up a decorated Christmas in their home. Children hang empty stocks empty on the fireplace and on the Christmas morning they find them filled with candy and small toys.

Canada: Houses, shops and streets are decorated with lights. Canadian people decorate their house with a Christmas tree, a Christmas wrap, a Christmas Crib... After the "Midnight Mass" people have a Christmas Eve with their family. Turkey and the Christmas log are the essential ingredients of a Canadian Christmas Dinner.

They send greeting cards to their friends and family who live far away.

South America: Peruvian people have Christmas parties but also learn to live better on christmas time. Their Christmas season lasts a full week. Mexican people celebrate Christmas with Las Posadas (pilgrimages representing the path by the Mary and Joseph). They celebrate the last Posada on the Christmas morning and then start the Christmas dinner. I Guatemala, immigrants have imported their German customs and the Christmas tree is essential but the Christmas gifts are reserved to the children. Gift exchange for adults is on January 1st.

Australia: Christmas happens during the summertime, so Australian people celebrate Christmas at the beach. People eat cold turkey and pudding.

New Zealand: If there are few decorations, New Zealand people organize Christmas parades and people sing in the parks. They also organize their famous "Christmas barbecue".

Japan: Christmas is merely commercial significance in Japan. This festival represents Saint Nicholas and it is an opportunity to offer gifts to small children.

China: If Christmas Day is not a holiday, Christmas is celebrated in Chinese cities. This festival was imported into this country by foreign missionaries. For the Chinese people who celebrate it, Christmas is a religious event.

About the Author : Prosperity66 is an European History, Holidays and Tarot cards passionate. A staged bedroom helps emphasize the size of the house and number of bedrooms, not to mention giving the impression of a well-rounded residence. Also, a clean bedroom looks a lot better than a cluttered spare room. Since a proper home staging can lead to a quicker sale and higher sale price, the time and money you spend on this can net you significant returns.

1. Dig Into The Pile

If you have a spare room in the house you're planning to sell, you may well have something that you can use to stage it with. Is that a lamp hidden under all those old suitcases and the clothes you can't quite bear to throw away? Drag it out and see if there can't be something done with it. If you have an old set of drawers awaiting a visit from your local Salvation Army, ask them to hold off and see if you can use it to complete the illusion that this is a guest bedroom. The same goes for any old bed, painting, etc. that you can temporarily repurpose from your belongings.

2. Borrow

You probably know someone, family or friend, who has a spare bed, furniture or tasteful art that you can temporarily place in the room to create the illusion of a happy bedroom. Many people will happily give you castoff furniture in return for you taking it to the local thrift store upon the sale of your home. If the item is to be returned, however, make sure it gets returned clean and in the same (or better!) shape it was when you first borrowed it.

3. Freecycle, Craigslist and thrift stores

Freecycle.org is a non-profit organization that began for the purpose of enabling people to get rid of unwanted items without sending them to a landfill. There are groups all over the world. Craigslist and other ad sites are another alternative. Many people are just trying to get rid of their stuff, hopefully for a few bucks. Much of this is perfect for staging purposes. Thrift stores are another cheap option.

4. Redecorate

A coat of paint or an inexpensive slipcover can make dingy walls and old furniture look much more attractive. Choose a bright, airy color for the walls, perhaps a white, blue or pale yellow. Furniture can be given a quick coat of paint that perhaps matches the room's trim or complements the color of the walls. Make sure your blankets, rugs and curtains are in a solid neutral color, which will pull the room together without distracting the eye.

5. Repurpose

What you're aiming for is the look of a bedroom, not necessarily the actual article. This means that your coffee table could actually be a box covered with an attractive looking tablecloth. It may surprise you how well a blanket or throw can help disguise any furniture dings, rips or scratches. Your bed doesn't have to be an actual mattress; air mattresses set up underneath some art with a comforter and plump pillows are all the bed you need.

Marci McFarland is a Sarasota real estate agent with a broad professional approach. Interesting talks on the first date pave the way for further dating schedules.

Conversation Strategy

People should devote a substantial amount of time towards the preparation of dating conversation topics. The selected topics should never lead to close ended answers as this disallows the opportunity of learning about the other person. A date should be approached as if it were an interview. Few topics that get the conversation rolling are as follows:

1. Dynamics and Size of Family: This helps us in finding out whether our date belongs to a big family and its history, tradition and values. Any person would love to speak about his/her family which makes this topic a sure shot topic for a date.

2. Hobbies: Each and every passion has a hobby or passion that he/she follows because of the sole pleasure derived out of it. Hence, hobbies make for interesting dating conversation topics. Discussion can range from music to fitness, and travel to culinary preferences. Talking about hobbies also helps in gauging the compatibility with your date. The kind of hobbies that a person follows has deep roots within the very personality of a person and hence these discussions are immensely helpful.

3. Fond Memories: With the passage of life, we leave behind a lot of memories that hold a special place in our heart. Discussing about these instances, instantly strikes a soft chord with the other person. This topic helps in bringing out the emotional self of the other person and if he/she finds that we are genuinely interested, an instant connect is developed.

4. Crazy Instances: There is no denying the fact that if two people are able to share a good laugh together, there will not be much time before both of them will grow really fond of each other. Talking about the various crazy things that the other person has done helps immensely in this regard. It is also an important topic as far as digging out hidden information is concerned about one's habits and addictions.

5. Money Spending Preferences: This makes for an interesting topic as it helps in gauging about our date's spending habits and priorities. This is important to know as far as long term association with respect to financial values and ethics are concerned.

6. Ambitions: Talking about one's ambition helps in finding the current satisfaction level of that person. If a person has been in the same profession for a long time, he is more likely to commit for a long term relationship on account of his/her stable mindedness. A person who has ambitions of moving over to different profession may not instantly commit for a relationship.

7. Relationships and Routine: This topic can be used for discussing about our date's closeness with his/her family which gives us an indication about how important relationships are for him/her. Routine is probably one of the most effective dating conversation topics as everyone loves talking what they are doing.

8. Expectations from a Date: Some people tend to have idealistic viewpoints and unrealistic expectations which might lead to future incompatibility. Hence, knowing the expectations straight away helps a lot in developing a long lasting relationship.

Proper preparation and clear mindedness helps a lot in deriving the most out of a date.

Going on a coffee date? Having a smiling face will help your co-workers and supervisors feel better being around you, and you may well end up reaping rewards by laughing more in the workplace. But you need to know how to apply humour in your work environment.

Laughing has been proven to be a huge stress reliever, letting you feel better and becoming more productive. To be able to loosen up and have some fun is great, so why not take that approach to work each day and lighten up around the work place? Smiling can make your job easier, more than ever if you work in customer service or sales. But there's certainly a right and incorrect way to use humour in the workplace.

One of the main rules with humour in the workplace is to avoid controversy when you are joking on the job. Stay well away from joking about political affairs, race and religion.

Sex is another unsafe topic because of sexual harassment in the workplace. Make sure that you stay well within the lines of decency.

Never make fun at other people within your organization, as you are trying to win friends with the people you work with, and not set against them. If you can't help yourself, please be extremely careful.

Poking fun at the work you do or the industry you work in is a good way to earn some smiles from your co-workers and supervisors. While these types of workplace jokes may not be so funny at home or with friends, as they really don't appreciate the pressures of your employment, the people who are around you in your job will definitely appreciate the humour about their frustrations and will be able to laugh over the situations instead of complaining.

Making jokes about the ups and downs of your trade is a safe way to add wit to the place of work. You will have the benefit of knowing precisely what your co-workers have to face each and every day, and it's much better as it helps to let go of tensions and lower stress levels by getting them to chuckle about the situations they come across frequently.

The very best time for some humour is when you are not working, but still in the region of the people you work with, such as a coffee or lunch break. You can also make an effort to be funny on the job, but when you are working, it's a good idea to use jokes much more thinly than you would normally do.

In general, humour in the workplace is a superb area to flex your creative muscles and give your job a little boost.

Humour in the workplace helps stress levels to drop, and your co-workers will feel better about working with you. Start gradually, and add a few more safe jokes here and there to incite a few smiles. Everyone will feel better because of your efforts.

About The Author: Lionel Estridge has tailored a special package for anyone who has taken the time read this article. Then adding a nice pair of cufflinks to the sleeves of your dress shirts will be a perfect option for you. If you are confused about how to wear cufflinks and how to match them to the rest of your outfit, then this article is right for you. Just like matching neckties to dress shirts, and your below to your shoes, there are a few simple rules on matching your cufflinks to your other pieces of clothing.

Matching Colors

If you are looking for a very versatile set of cufflinks to wear with almost anything, then your best option is a solid silver cufflink set. Silver is the most common color for cufflinks for a reason: It is easy to match, classy, and timeless. The second most common cufflink color is, yes you guessed right, gold. The general rule for silver and gold cufflinks is that the cufflink color has to match your belt buckle. In addition, your other pieces of jewelry, like your wristwatch, should match as well. Gold cufflinks also look great with shades of brown such as a tan colored suit, brown dress shoes, and brown belt, while silver is the preferred color for gray and charcoal-black suits.

Besides silver and gold, many cufflink sets have colored stones on the front. Even though those cufflinks are typically less formal they will add a great touch to your outfit. Try to match the color to another piece of clothing you are wearing. If you wear pink cufflinks, then a pink necktie would be an excellent choice. What you want to avoid is dressing like a parrot with too many bright and conflicting colors.

Cufflink Styles

There are an endless amount of different cufflink styles available. Just try searching for a particular cufflink theme on the Internet and you will guarantee find what you were searching for. As a general guideline: The more basic the cufflink design, the more conservative the look. If you are bored with your suit and tie look then novelty cufflinks are a good option. Unlike novelty ties, that have a somewhat tacky , novelty cufflinks are well accepted. If you like playing poker, then a nice set of poker cufflinks might just be right up your alley. With so many different styles and themes available, cufflinks will make a great gift for the Holidays, Father’s day, and birthdays.

Different Cufflink Materials

Today cufflinks are made in a wide range of materials. Most common are metals, including the precious metals gold, silver, and platinum. Besides metals, cufflinks are commonly made from glass, colored glass that is as the face, fabric, exotic woods, and even bone.

Matching Cufflinks to Dress Shirts

Cufflinks are worn with French cuffed shirts. The French cuff is often times also referred to the double cuff as the cuffs are folded back before they are secured with a knot or cufflinks. Unlike traditional dress shirts, they do not have any buttons on their own. French cuff dress shirts are often considered more formal, particularly when paired with a set of quality cufflinks.

How much to Spend on Cufflinks

The range in cost of cufflinks can go from a few dollars to thousands of dollars. What makes the difference in price is not so much the designer that makes them, but the materials used. Precious metals and stones are common on high-end cufflinks that can cost in the tens of thousands of dollars. How much to spend is obviously your choice. For daily use and travel it might be more suited to choose a slightly less expensive set, and save the “good ones” for special occasions.

About the Author : Pohl is an expert author on formal attire. Dating on a budget doesn’t mean a date will be less romantic, or that your date will think you are being tight-fisted; it will show that you are using your imagination and trying to be innovative. Whether you prefer to eat at a restaurant or go to the theatre, remember there are always cheaper date options. Your date doesn’t need to know how much money you spend on a date; the most important thing is that you spend some quality time together and have fun getting to know one another. There are numerous ways for you to have a wonderful date without overspending which range from being completely free, to being relatively low-cost.

Eating is included in many date options, whether it is in a restaurant, bar or coffee shop. Eating out can take up a large portion of your date budget, but there are many alternative options to avoid this. Cooking at home is very popular with couples as it gives you the opportunity to relax in home surroundings while enjoying a delicious home cooked meal. It also gives you the chance to show off your cookery talent, or be impressed by your date’s cookery skills. Alternatively you could enjoy a takeaway together and share your favourite dishes. Depending on the amount of food you order, takeaway prices are relatively cheap compared to a fancy restaurant. A picnic is another great date idea. A romantic setting in the countryside to enjoy a tasty picnic allows you to relax and make the most of the piece and quiet. A picnic can be as extravagant as you wish, or keep it simple for a lower cost. If you like the idea of a picnic and staying at home, another great idea is a candle-lit picnic on the living room floor. This is good if it is raining outside, plus it enables you to put on romantic music in the background. If you prefer going to a restaurant, then a lower-cost option is to go to a restaurant at lunchtime when many restaurants have special lunchtime offers and discounted meals. Alternatively you could have a mouth-watering pub lunch, which are often cheaper than restaurant prices.

If you like to go to the cinema or theatre on a date, there are cheaper options. Many cinemas offer discounted ticket prices on particular days and times, usually when visiting the cinema is unpopular. This does vary from cinema to cinema, but it is definitely worth looking in to. Another great idea is to watch a movie in the comfort of your own home. Not only is it cheaper and cosier, it also enables you to watch whichever movie you feel like, unlike the cinema where you are restricted to a handful of films. Why not substitute a visit to the theatre with a comedy club? Laughing is a great way to bring two people closer together, so a comedy club is a perfect option, plus it is guaranteed that you will end the date with a smile on your face. If you’re not a great fan of comedy, you could always attend a book reading or poetry reading at a local bookshop. If both you and your date enjoy books and poetry, then this is an ideal option for you and it has the bonus of being free of charge.

If you are a fan of the outdoors and fresh air then there are several date ideas for you. A gentle stroll or even a hike in the countryside, the park or a wood is a good way to spend some quality time together. Without any interruptions you will have all the time you need to get to know one another without spending a penny. You then have the choice of taking some sandwiches with you and eating them in a quiet location, but don’t forget to take some extra bread to feed the ducks if you are near a river or lake. Other outdoor date ideas include watching the sunset or sunrise, bird watching and stargazing, all of which can be very romantic, especially watching the stars in the fresh night air. Even if you aren’t interested in birds or the stars, it can be enjoyable to learn something new with someone you care about.

There are several active date ideas that are low-cost which are great if you enjoy being energetic. You don’t need to have special equipment or belong to a specialised club to take part in sport; your local park and a ball are sufficient. Being active is a great way to have fun and make you feel relaxed at the same time. Cycling is a great date idea if you enjoy the outdoors and enjoy being active. This won’t cost you anything if you already own a bike. Alternatively many nature reserves or wooded locations allow you to hire bikes and cycle around the area. Less energetic activities such as miniature golf is another low-cost way to have fun. You could even take up kite flying and perhaps even make your own kite out of newspaper and bits you have about the house. You will have lots of fun together trying to get your homemade kite lift off the ground.

Other low-cost date ideas include window shopping, playing a board game, a visit to an art gallery or museum and a trip to the beach. Depending on parking prices and location, these ideas can be cost-free. Many museums and galleries are free to visit and a day at the beach needn’t cost much if you take your own food and rug to sit on.

If you are interested in learning something new with your partner, why not take up a hobby together? It will cost to learn a new hobby, such as dancing or painting, but in the long run it will be cheaper than multiple visits to a restaurant, cinema or theatre. As well as having fun together, a hobby will lead to further date ideas to carry out, for example, visiting a castle or lake to paint your view.

Many of these date ideas can be as expensive or inexpensive as you like, but don’t forget about hidden costs. Remember that admission fees, parking charges and eating and drinking out costs all add up and can make a date more expensive. If you plan your date and take into account possible added costs, then you can achieve a successful romantic date on a budget suitable for you.

Deborah has been the head copy writer for Completely Free Dating for over 2 years offering help and advice to its members on all aspects of dating. It is the spiritual ladder that reaches from the earth to the heavens, from error to Truth, from pain and then to peace.

Meditation is the focus of thought, upon an idea or theme, with the objective of thoroughly understanding it. What ever you constantly meditate upon you will fully come to understand and will grow more and more into its likeness. It will be incorporated into your very being. So if you constantly dwell on what is selfish and degrading, you will ultimately become selfish and corrupt. If you constantly think upon that which is pure and unselfish you will definitely become pure and unselfish.

What is it that you most focus upon? What is it that you most frequently and intensely think of? When you are home and alone and quiet, your soul naturally turns and contemplates. What is it that you think about? Are you in a place of pain or peace? Are you growing in the likeliness of the Divine?

Because we will literally become the embodiment of that quality which we most constantly think about let me strongly suggest that we meditate on the higher things and not the lower. Let’s train our minds so that every time we relax into thought - we will be lifted up. Let our thoughts be pure and unmixed with any selfishness so that our hearts become purified and drawn nearer to Truth, and not defiled and dragged more hopelessly into negativity.

Meditation, in the spiritual sense which is the type being discussed at this time is the secret of all growth within our spiritual lives and knowledge. It is difficult in this day and age to find quiet places and times. To find the silence we so desperately need so that we may connect spiritually with our God. It is imperative that our minds be trained on all that is good and pure so that when we are not able to focus our thoughts they subconsciously think on the right type of things. Meditation centered upon divine realities is the very essence and soul of prayer. It is the silent reaching of the soul toward the Eternal. The silent whisperings of our soul will bring about the positive changes and situations we desire.

If you have been praying for wisdom, for peace and for Truth, and it is still far away from your heart and life, consider this: You are praying for one thing while living out in your thoughts and actions, something else. Let’s try this little experiment. Every day for five minutes, find a quiet place and during this time focus only on good, happy, peaceful thoughts. Do this consistently for thirty days and see if it changes your life. I will bet, that the least possible difference we will see happening in our lives is a happy, healthier attitude. Also, we should notice that a physical change has taken place. We will be smiling more and the prayers we have been praying for wisdom, peace and truth will find their way deep into our hearts and soul. It’s amazing how quickly we can change our lives around with the right type of thinking!

The Vision that you glorify in your mind, the Ideal that you enthrone in your heart--this you will build your life by, this you will become.

Alane Brown, Life Style Mentor and Successful Entrepreneur, is helping many become the next success story. One of the creative ways to have fun is to learn to draw a cartoon. Drawing a cartoon requires a bit of creative bent of mind. But practice is also important as you can have fun by just trying to express your feelings on paper with a pen or pencil.

Cartoon is like visual jokes. If you are able to make funny faces or funny drawings they you are certainly able to make good cartoon as well. Lot of people learn how to draw cartoon and become professional cartoon artists, on the other hand many other just love to draw a funny cartoon to spread happiness and have fun. You can even entertain your family and friends with your art funny drawings.

Many people become professional cartoon artists after learning how to draw cartoon and draw cartoon for advertising agencies, animation movies, newspapers or websites.

Drawing a cartoon requires some basic instruments like pencil, drawing pen (can be Rotring pen) or fine drawing brush, eraser, scale and a drawing board.

When you are going to start drawing a cartoon, start practicing to draw an oval shape. It is the outer line of the face you are going to draw. To learn drawing cartoon you must start with practicing drawing faces. First try to make oval and round shapes well. When you start making these shapes, try to put a nose and two dots in place of eyes. Try to draw these shapes several times.

Draw the full shape, even if some of it will not be seen in the final drawing. Make sure to make the face funny. After all you have to make people laugh with your cartoon just done through jokes. After you have drawn the outer lines of a cartoon go and use a pen to ink the lines drawn by the pencil. Ink only the lines you want to keep in the drawing. Let the ink dry, then erase the extra pencil lines.

The last step in learning how to draw is adding color. You can use any coloring tool to put color in the cartoon. Feel free to use crayons, colored pencils or markers. If you’re feeling especially creative, you can even try watercolors or chalk. You can even use software like PhotoShop to color a cartoon on the computer.

Start by adding the main color, gently adding darker colors to areas that would be in shadows or less light (generally toward the bottom or underneath the shapes). This is called shading.

After shading is complete, add lighter colors where more light would be (usually on the top areas of the shapes, where sunlight would naturally hit them). This is called highlighting. Shading and highlighting help the drawing look more realistic.
Once you fill in all the colors and are pleased with your cartoon, you’re finished. Later you can practice to make full figures of men and women and then you can also start drawing people with backgrounds. Have funny time and best of luck!

K V Gautam writes for www.fundoofun.com, a funny site for fun, and cartoon

source: www.amazines.com

Canadian and US Thanksgiving Traditions

Author: Dominique Halet

Traditions of Thanksgiving in Canada

Like all the harvest festivals throughout history, the overt celebration of gratefulness of the Earth's bounteousness is through a fabulous feast! Gathering up with the family for a day of enjoyment and fellowship is easier in Canada than in many other countries. While the official Thanksgiving Day is on Monday, Canadians usually celebrate it during the entire three-day weekend.

After the main meal, it is traditional to kick back and relax while watching the featured "Thanksgiving Day Classic" football game. Not to be confused with the American version of football, the Canadian Football League offers a doubleheader schedule of games for the Thanksgiving Day celebration.

Besides the indoor activities or the family dinner, the weekend of Thanksgiving is traditionally the occasion for a last big outdoor extravaganza. Either participating or watching the numerous Thanksgiving Day parades that are such an entire part of the holiday will get one out of the house and into the end of the summer air. The Thanksgiving weekend is also traditional for taking that last outdoor getaway before winter sets in and is a perfect time for hiking, fishing or simply enjoying the outstanding autumn colors.

While the Thanksgiving Day celebration is a secular event, those with a religious mind have their own Thanksgiving traditions that they partake of in their churches. With the old European harvest festivals in mind, most churches are decorated with the traditional cornucopias, wheat sheaves, pumpkins, gourds and corn ears. There are particular scriptural texts and hymns that are emphasized at this time of the year to celebrate the harvest and their gratefulness to their God for providing for them.

Traditions of Thanksgiving in the United States

While Thanksgiving is celebrated yearly in the United States since 1863, it has been often bounced around and given different reasons for celebration. By the mid-20th century it had been firmly placed at the end of November and made a Federal Holiday.

Even though it is a secular holiday, since the beginning of the nation has a religious overtone. Though set aside as a day to thank God for the bounty of the Earth, this is not required.

Although not the first Thanksgiving event in the history of the United States, the "official" point of origin is taken from the Plymouth Colony of Massachusetts. Therefore the traditional decorations include Pilgrims, pumpkins, Indians and turkeys. In honor of the harvest, corn stalks, ears, cornucopias and gourds also find their way into Thanksgiving Day displays. Plays and pageants are often performed with this theme in both schools and religious institutions.

Alongside the omnipresent turkey are prepared additional Native American foods such as mashed and sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, corn, and cranberry sauce. It is still proper to offer a prayer at the beginning of the meal, whether to a God or general good fortune. Many organizations take this time to put together food drives for donating Thanksgiving meals to the poor and needy.

The Thanksgiving Day parades are the biggest and most popular of the year, rivaling and generally even beating out the Christmas parades.

American Football is also a part of the Thanksgiving celebration. Both major leagues hold special game events on Thanksgiving Day and several of the teams always play on this day. In schools, it is the end of the football season and the games played near the Thanksgiving Day holiday are traditionally scheduled as longstanding Rivalry Matches between schools.

Another of the great Thanksgiving traditions actually takes place on the day after. Called "Black Friday", it is the official beginning of the Christmas shopping season and retail stores often start it off with big sales and special shopping events.

Whether in Canada or in the United States, religious or secular, it is a great excuse to celebrate and appreciate the things we have!

About the Author: D.
