Ben Massi: 'Better With You' dedicates Thanksgiving episode in memory

2010-11-24T21:58:00.000-08:00

A news by 4usnews:While showrunners and actors tend to get the majority of the glory of a successful show, it's important to remember that great TV wouldn't happen without the below-the-line talent that goes largely unnoticed.

The stars and showrunners themselves, however, never forget those who make their success possible. The "Better With You" team dedicated their Thanksgiving episode to Ben Massi, a Warner Bros. employee who, sadly, passed away on Nov. 10.

Massi, born in Burbank May 29, 1963, was 47 years old and was known as "Guy" to many. Still in Burbank at the time of his passing, he was a longtime loyal employee of Warner Bros. He worked in the paint department - a family business - and contributed to many of our favorite films and television shows.

In the spirit of celebrating Massi's life and fun-loving spirit, his surviving family - including his mother, sisters, and nieces - has requested that no suits be worn at his December 3 memorial. "In remembrance of Ben, Hawaiian shirts are preferred attire at the service," reads the obituary.

We thank Ben for his hard work to keep us entertained through his 30 years at Warner Bros...

Michael Brea Suspected of Decapitating Mother with a Samurai Sword

2010-11-24T05:31:00.001-08:00

A news by 4usnews:This is as bizarre and as heinous a story as we could possibly imagine.

Michael Brea, a small-time actor who once appeared on Ugly Betty, has been taken into custody for allegedly chopping off the head of his mother with a samurai sword.

Michael Brea Picture

According to police reports, cops arrived to an "extremely bloody" scene at Brea's Brooklyn home around 2:20 this morning and found the actor holding a bible. They had to subdue him via taser.

A neighbor recounted events, as he/she heard them, to WPIX 11: "I hear [Brea] chasing [his mother] through the house and he's just saying a bunch of [Bible] passages like, 'Repent, Repent, Repent.' I heard him chasing her through the house and I heard a loud scream and so I have my father call the cops."

The victim was found with her head sliced off. At the moment, Brea is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation and then will be handed over to the NYPD.

Manager: Oksana Grigorieva is a Two Faced, Button-Pushing Opportunist

2010-11-24T04:39:00.000-08:00

A News By 4usnews:A man Mel Gibson hired to manage Oksana Grigorieva's singing career says she's basically a back-stabbing liar who was constantly "pushing Mel's buttons."

Michael Lustig submitted a declaration for Mel in his child custody case, claiming that despite Gibson's efforts, Oksana never showed an ounce of gratitude.

Sort of the sentiment we heard on the Mel Gibson tapes. In the document, Lustig states, "In my experience, Ms. Grigorieva's disposition is generally anxious, depressed and uneasy. She constantly 'digs' at Mr. Gibson."

It's not surprising that he adds how she "pushes his buttons."

Lustig says Oksana Grigorieva was a "dark" person when she argued with Mel, noting he often heard her yell at him with "sharp, pointed and nasty" words.

Yeah. Amazing to think that someone could actually make Mel Gibson look like something of a sympathetic victim in all of this, but Oksana is doing her best.....

A News By 4usnews:Vince Young Meltdown:Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young may be the season after tendon rupture in his right thumb and storming out of the stadium minutes after the shaking shoulder pads into the stands.

“Instruction Jeff Fisher: … Start looking for another defender, I do not mean this season I have in mind for next week Vince Young’s behavior Sunday convinced me of the Titans … and, perhaps, someone for that matter … can not win with the guy, “the judge wrote.

As players filed from the sideline, the young was seen Cancel shoulder pads, which he threw into the stands. He and the Titans coach Jeff Fisher said in the locker room before the young left so quickly the guard was almost overturned.

Titans safety Michael Griffin, as well as a team back to Texas in college, ran for the young only in his underpants. Young brush it on before heading out to the parking lot. Griffin was seen shaking his head, he went back to the locker room.
Fisher will not share what was said in the locker room, saying that it was between himself and the young team. But Fisher said the rookie Rusty Smith his starter right now.

Ina Garten takes over Google

2010-11-24T02:21:00.000-08:00

A news by 4usnews:Google is prepping for Thanksgiving early today with Ina Garten recipes. The famous Google Doodle is not a doodle today — it’s a photograph of Thanksgiving ingredients handpicked by the Barefoot Contessa herself. At first, I was a bit dismayed by the doodle forgoing a drawing, but Garten makes up for any slight with her recipe offerings. Especially her popover recipe. It’s sort of a Bell family mainstay, and although you really should have them for breakfast, smothered in butter and hot syrup, I can’t really get mad at anyone who loves popovers.

The Post’s Liz Seymour wrote of the famous chef in 2008:

She is an icon because her message is universal and empowering. Don’t cook all the food; buy some. Keep the table settings simple. Do most of the work the day before the party. All good rules to follow at this most stressful entertaining time of the year. It is hard, she said, but you can do it.

Bacon Salt Thanksgiving Turkey Brine Recipe

2010-11-23T20:59:00.000-08:00

A news by 4usnews:I'm a big proponent of brining your turkey, as I make clear in this week's Thanksgiving episode of my food podcast, The Sporkful. (Here's a quick primer if you want to learn more about the basics of brining.) The most important thing about brining is that you do it. But there's a wide range of flavors you can choose to impart to your bird, and that choice can be crucial. So in honor of our First Annual Sporkful Thanksgiving Show, I've chosen to release the recipe for my Bacon Salt Brine. Bacon Salt, of course, is the amazing kosher and vegetarian seasoning that imparts a smokey, bacon-esque flavor to all your foods. Use this recipe correctly, and you'll be giving thanks for years to come.

12-16 pound turkey
2 1/2 gallons of water
2 cups Bacon Salt (I recommend Hickory or Natural)
1 1/4 cup kosher salt
1 cup garlic powder
1 cup onion powder

Heat one gallon of water, pour in all ingredients, and stir thoroughly until ingredients are mostly or completely dissolved. Refrigerate until cold. Pour brine into brining bag, then add another 1 1/2 gallons of water and gently mix up the liquid in the bag. Then put your turkey in the bag upside down, to ensure that the breast is fully submerged. (The entire bird must be submerged for the full brining period.) Seal the bag very carefully, I recommend multiple bags and duct tape.

Brine for roughly 24 hours, then remove turkey from the brine, rinse it off, and pat it dry. Coat lightly with olive oil, parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. I recommend roasting the bird upside down for the first two hours, a technique we discuss in more detail in this week's episode of The Sporkful. Even if you're not up for the flip, this brine recipe will give you the juiciest Thanksgiving turkey you've ever had.

Thanksgiving Desserts

2010-11-23T20:53:00.000-08:00

A news by 4usnews:While everybody thinks about the turkey for Thanksgiving dinner, desserts are just as important, and often overlooked. Sure, you can buy a pumpkin pie from a bakery, but making something yourself makes the dinner even more special. My Sister's Lemon Meringue Pie is always on the table, along with another treat like Angel Cheesecake Pie or Apple Pecan Layer Cake. I can hardly wait!

Who Won Dancing with the Stars 2010? Share Your Prediction

2010-11-23T20:51:00.001-08:00

A news by 4usnews:Part one of the Dancing with the Stars 2010 finale aired Monday night, with Bristol Palin facing off against Kyle Massey and Jennifer Gray. The sum it all up, the episode went something like this: Kyle Massey has figured out how to combine personality with technique; Bristol Palin proved once again how much she's improved since week one; and Jennifer Gray wowed just about everyone with her fabulous, fifty-year-old self.

Kyle Goes From "Messy" to "Marvelous"

Kyle Massey's Fox Trot, which earned him three nines, had Len Goodman raving "You've gone from messy Massy to marvelous." Later in the night, Kyle's hip-hop style freestyle dance to the energetic song "Tootsie Roll" earned two tens and one nine. "This old fly girl is very proud of you," Carrie Ann said. "I dub you the fresh prince of Dancing with the Stars!"

Bristol the Pistol Fires Back

Bristol Palin isn't crying over the criticism she's been facing. Instead, "Bristol the Pistol" says she is working hard to prove all of her "haters" wrong. Bristol's Jive, which pleased the judges enough to earn three nines, was a great improvement from the first time she danced the Jive while wearing a monkey suit. And her sexy Chicago-themed freestyle dance, which started out with Bristol (wearing black boots and a short black costume) dancing in a cage, earned high praise from Len. "That was no disaster...I thought it was fantastic," he said before giving her a nine. Carrie-Ann and Bruno were also impressed by Bristol's attempt, but they only felt comfortable using the eight paddle for her second dance.

Jennifer Has A Perfect Night

If tonight's winner of Dancing with the Stars will actually be the best dancer, Jennifer Gray will be going home with the mirrorball trophy! Jennifer earned two perfect scores for her performances on Monday night. The first dance was a Paso Doble that earned a standing ovation from Len Goodman and had Bruno raving that it ignited "the flames of passion." Then, Jennifer pleased Dirty Dancing fans when she danced her freestyle number to the Dirty Dancing song "Do You Love Me." She started the performance carrying a watermelon, which reminded us of the famous scene in Dirty Dancing where her character Baby Houseman met dancer Johnny Castle. Her moves also reminded us of the unforgettable scenes where Baby danced with Johnny.

The night ended with Jennifer at the top of the leaderboard -- and Bristol Palin in last place. But viewer votes will help determine who wins Dancing with the Stars tonight. Will most-improved-dancer Bristol Palin win it all? Will Kyle's personality and much-improved dancing win viewers over? Will Jennifer Gray take home the trophy for being the best dancer this season?

IATSE Settles Strike With 'Biggest Loser'

2010-11-23T20:45:00.000-08:00

A news by 4usnews:Exactly two weeks after crew members on NBC's Biggest Loser walked off the set, starting an IATSE-led strike against the producers of the veteran reality series, Reveille Prods., 3 Ball Prods. and 25/7 Prods, the union and the production companies announced they have reached a tentative agreement, putting an end to the strike that crippled production on Biggest Loser for the past 2 weeks. At stake were crew members' health benefits as the Biggest Loser producers don't offer any and, as a non-union show, working on it didn't count toward the IA days crew members need to accumulate in order to get benefits through the union. The production companies, which have deals with DGA and AFTRA, had resisted going union with IATSE because of the steep price tag involved, between a half million dollars and $2 million, depending on who you talk to, noting that they paid the crew wages substantially higher than the the union minimum to make up for the lack of benefits. But sources close to the crew had countered that much smaller cable reality series work under IA deals, so Biggest Loser should be able to afford the switch. The strike drew growing support from outside and within the show. It was endorsed by the LA County AFL-CIO on Tuesday and then by the state's California Federation of Labor on Thursday. The show's talent, trainers Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper and host Alison Sweeney, participated in an auction to raise money for the striking crew. Michaels and Harper also didn't show up for filming on Monday as they didn't want to cross the picket line despite having a "no strike" clause in their AFTRA contracts and and did cross it on Thursday after getting assurances that the producers and IATSE were negotiating a deal. Here is the two side's official announcement.

'Dancing With the Stars' winner named

2010-11-23T20:43:00.000-08:00

A news by yahoofreeshop:Tonight's Dancing With the Stars finale kicks off with a big group performance with all the pros and stars (except Michael Bolton, who's in London, and Audrina Patridge, who is "recovering from an illness"), choreographed by Jason Gilkison.

After revisiting last night's performances, Tom Bergeron gives a rundown on how the scoring works, to head off more OMG CONSPIRACY talk. Based on the judges' scores, each dancer's share of the judges's scores is determined. Then this "share" is added to each dancer's "share" of the viewer's votes. "The couple with the highest total wins," he says. Does that make sense to you?

Jennifer Grey joins Tom and Brooke on stage to tell them that though she ruptured a disc last night, she went to the hospital this morning and her doctor fixed her up, and she will be dancing tonight. Tom opts not to tell her to break a leg.

Before the final dancing rounds, Christina Aguilera hits the stage to sing "Show Me How You Burlesque," which is, shockingly, from her new film, "Burlesque."

For the next round, the competitors have to pick their favorite dance from the season and revisit it.

Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer choose their tango, and take it to a new level. You can really tell how much he has learned and how far he's come. Len Goodman he always comes out full energy and is so much fun to watch. Bruno Tonioli says he's "a stage animal" and a hard worker who listens to their constructive criticism. Carrie Ann Inaba showed his power and his control and fluidity and how much he's learned. She adds that they have so much "freshness."

Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas also choose their tango, which Mark calls her "breakthrough dance." They bicker about whether to break hold, which they were docked for last time. She wants to since that was their really fun moment -- and they do. But it's still not great. Bruno says she has earned her place in the finale with her hard work. Carrie Ann says this was her favorite dance of hers and showcased her improvement. Len says she and Kyle are flip sides of a coin -- he's all performance and she's more precise. So it's about which one you prefer.

Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough opt for their Viennese waltz from the first week. Jennifer says the first time, she was connected to the past and now she's connected to the present and Derek. During the performance, you can see her daughter in the front row, clapping for her with glee, and it's just so adorable I want to cry. Also, the dancing is phenomenal. Carrie Ann says it's nice to see people's journey and that you could see the new wisdom of her body. Len says she is the complete package. Bruno says she had artistry, quality of movement and musicality. Lovely!

Now the judges will rank them and give the top couple a 10, the middle a 9 and the bottom an 8. Kyle and Lacey get a 9-8-9, for a 26/30. Wait. Len put Kyle below Bristol? REALLY? (Ha, Lacey is visibly surprised.) Bristol and Mark get 8-9-8, for a 25/30. Jennifer and Derek, then, get the 10-10-10, the only available scores left, for a 30/30.

Then, the finalists draw numbers for the instant cha-cha, and Kyle is first, Jennifer is second, and Bristol is third.

Next, there is an insane David Hasselhoff bit, in which he, among other things, sings the Baywatch theme song. What is going on? I haven't seen anything quite like that since I had a nightmare while on painkillers.

Montage of pros talking. The pros talk a lot.

Speaking of talking, Kurt Warner and Rick Fox talk lots of trash and have a dance faceoff to prove who's a better athlete. No, who's a better dancer. No, wait, who's taller. No, um, who got higher scores all season. No, maybe, who lasted longer by viewer votes. No, they're just having fun. But I think they're lucky they aren't getting scored on that.

Margaret Cho and Florence Henderson do a "Copacabana" themed dance (with their partners Louis Van Amstel and Corky Ballas in tow). Too funny.

The Situation then does a "dance" with Karina and two other women, but it's horrifying for a number of reasons. One is that there is a cover of "I'm Too Sexy." Only Right Said Fred can pull that song off. Also, it's slow, which is weird. Then, he's not really even dancing. Then, he keeps rubbing his nose and then grabbing the hand of one of his partners. Gross. And then at the end one of his partners totally fondles him.

Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy get to reprise a dance, too. They do their TV-theme week quickstep to the Friends theme song. Awww, I miss them.

Christina Aguilera returns to the stage to sing "Beautiful" along with the most efficient fog machine known to exist.

Finally, the three remaining couples do their instant cha-cha to "Raise Your Glass." Len says Bristol came out on fire, and Kyle was a marvel, and Jennifer was "always right up there." Bruno says Jennifer was perfection, Kyle scorching hot and Bristol saved the best for last. Carrie Ann says everyone brought their A-game, and they all showed why there were there.

These final scores will be combined with last night's scores and make up half the vote, with last night's viewer votes making up the other half.

Kyle and Lacey get a 9-9-10, for a 28/30.

Jennifer and Derek pull a 9-9-10, for a 28/30 too.

Bristol and Mark get 9-9-9, for a 27/30.

Kudos to Bruno for not giving everyone the same score in the final round, rendering it pointless.
Final results

The third-place couple is Bristol and Mark. She says it's been a life-changing experience and she wouldn't trade it for anything.

At long last, the winner is announced: The new Dancing With the Stars champions are Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough, with Kyle and Lacey the runners-up.

Jennifer is thrilled she was about to compete in the final round tonight, and Kyle's had a blast.

What do you think about the results?

The 'Harry Potter' Stars Used to Hide from Their Bodyguards

2010-11-23T08:49:00.000-08:00

A News By 4usnews:Harry Potter stars Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe used to hate having to be followed by bodyguards wherever they went, so when they were younger they'd try to slyly escape.

Emma said: “I hate having bodyguards and when we were younger, Dan, Rupert and I used to try to hide from the people trying to keep an eye on us.”

Now the stunning actress, who is juggling her acting and modeling careers with studying at Brown University, has learned to accept attention from fans and prefers to go out without any bodyguards.

She added: “Now it’s like ‘Really, I’m fine.’ I take the train and the bus and, if I don’t dress up too much, I’m usually fine. Occasionally people stop me but I’d rather deal with that than not go out at all. That’d be really tragic.........

A news by yahoofreeshop:Those wacky folks at Google have come up with another funky Google doodle for us today in honor of Thanksgiving. It’s a selection of Thanksgiving recipes from chef Ina Garten that would be perfect for your kids this Thanksgiving! But wait – who is Ina Garten?

Turns out she’s the Barefoot Contessa. Google was just getting all formal on us. This Week in ‘E – The Miz Cashes In, John Cena and Many Others Cash Out

2010-11-23T04:52:00.003-08:00

A News By 4usNews :Yeah this is day late. Big whoop, wanna fight about it? Survivor Series was mildly disappointing, but last night’s RAW, which I watched as I finished this was absolutely fantastic, making for two stellar RAWs in a row, with anticipation of next week’s King of the Ring episode to add to the string of goodness. Congratulations to The Miz. I am generally excited for him and his victory. I haven’t popped like that since Bret Hart returned back in January and the excitement of this victory was on par as CM Punk’s first victory back in the summer of 2008. Also congrats to Miz on becoming the 40th man to capture the prestigious WWE Championship, putting him on the same list as Rogers, Sammartino, Backlund, Hogan, Andre, Undertaker, Austin, Rock and Cena. It’s hard to believe for a kid from The Real World. I’m sure I’ll have more on his victory next week....

Oh and before I forget, There’s two things you don’t mess with legends and America, Sgt. Slaughter address Alberto Del Rio on the Old School RAW. Best comment since CM Punk said, “
Luke, Serena, bring me Jared from Subway.....

Tre From Facebook: Willow Palin is Totally Homophobic Apology Not Accepted!

2010-11-23T04:50:00.000-08:00

Tre, the Alaskan dude who Willow Palin called a f*gg*t on Facebook this week, does NOT accept her sister Bristol's apology, thankyouverymuch.

He says Willow Palin, who lashed out at him for mocking her mom's TLC show, uses such language so often, she may very well be a homophobe.

Tre tells TMZ that he's not gay, but feels offended and bullied, given that "Willow called me a got in front of the whole world and my family.sked if he felt it was a homophobic rant, Tre replied that he thinks so, seeing as "She says 'queer' and 'gay' so much ... so probably maybe."

Although Bristol issued a public apology via Facebook on behalf of her and Willow Tre says he's yet to hear from either one of them personally.

Does he accept Bristol's apology? "No way ... Maybe if it was sincere from them straight to me, I would consider. But it would have to be direct."

"People say these are baby grizzlies defending Mama Bear. but how is she defending her family by calling us queers and low-lifes and gots?
