When economic times turn tough, governments urge their citizens to spend. Economists think of citizens as "consumers" and rely on them to put their "disposable income" to work. By doing this they will support the economy, which translates into higher stock prices.

However, in times like early 2008, when consumers were reeling from the perfect storm of inflation, a global credit crunch, a global housing market in decline and concerns about stagflation, there is often a conflict with the governmental cry for consumers to spend. It's a bewildering scenario. What's the best course of action for a concerned consumer to take? The following strategies provide a road map for surviving economic downturns.

1. Don't Buy What You Can't Afford

We all want that designer sweater, leather handbag, or cute sports car, but most of us just can't afford to make the purchases. There's a simple solution to this dilemma. If you can't afford it, don't buy it. This is often the easiest point to understand, but it is one of the hardest to implement when all those goodies are staring you in the face and all your credit companies are telling you it's OK.

2. If You Can't Pay Cash, You Probably Can't Afford It

In our credit crazy world, amassing debt no longer carries a social stigma. Everybody has a car payment, a house payment and credit card payments. Well, remember what your mother said about everybody jumping off of a bridge? Just because "everybody" is doing it, doesn't make it a good idea. Buying something you can't afford now, especially when the economy is unsettled, can double the pain of paying later. For example, if you purchase a $450,000 home today and the market goes into a slump and devalues your home by $200,000, you will be paying the bank twice what the home has come to be worth. Just because it was easy to get the credit to buy that home, doesn't mean it was the right time for you to buy in.

3. Paying Interest on Anything Makes Somebody Else Rich

When you pay interest on a purchase, you are overpaying for that item for the luxury of getting to use it now. The simple act of paying interest means that the price you are paying to make the purchase is greater than the sale price of the item. You are giving away even more of your hard-earned money in order to own that item than the manufacturer thought the item was worth. For example, if you buy a car for $25,000 with a loan at 7% interest for five years, in the end, you will pay almost $30,000 for the car. Once you factor in depreciation, you're left with a very cheap car that cost you thousands more than it should have.

4. If You Are in Debt, stop Spending Money

Sometimes, such as when purchasing a home, the cost of the item is so great that you simply cannot afford to pay cash. This should be the exception rather than the rule. When it cannot be avoided, you need to close your purse and stop spending. Getting yourself further it debt doesn't help your financial situation. Making a realistic budget in this case is the key to success. Once you know how much you're actually spending on those daily trips to the grocery store and coffee shop, you'll be able to find room to cut costs realistically.

5. Don't Count on Somebody Else to Save You

In times of economic uncertainty, people often think the government will be able to help them, but unfortunately this is often the time when the government has the least amount of money and freedom to help its own citizens. In most cases, the government won't save you, so you'll have to save yourself. When the economy is in a downturn, you can't just look at what you are spending, you also need to look at where the money is coming from. Your employer is facing the same difficulties you are: trying to make bill payments, balancing the flow of capital, all while sales are slowing. Just like you, your employer will be looking to reduce its costs, which could be in the form of layoffs. You could be in big trouble if you haven't planned for this possibility. The plan here is to start saving now for that eventual rainy day, and prepare an emergency fund for yourself. If it is too late to start saving and you already need the money, many financial institutions will let you defer a payment or two if you prove you have a smart financial plan to eventually pull through.

I hate to know that fuel price is skyrocketing again. The increase is global, not in Malaysia only. I don’t understand a single damn thing that the government in Malaysia said about spending the fuel wisely.

What the hell! Do you seriously think that we spend our petrol or fuel recklessly when the fuel is so expensive? You think we are driving our cars aimlessly. You got to be kidding. We have tried and are still trying to cut down any unnecessary usage.

With the fuel price increased, everything in the market increases spontaneously. We had tried our best to spend wisely. Now the price hit RM2.70 per liter, how many of us can survive this extremity. The only thing that didn’t increase is the salary and it is not going to increase for sure.

Tips to save your money on fuel:

1. Fill your car early in the morning

a. Why?

b. This is because at lower temperature, hence colder environment, the fuel is denser and you maximise your benefits as when the temperature increase, the petrol will expand and you won’t pump the exactly amount. This mean in the hot afternoon, your one litre is not exactly a litre.

c. Can’t understand?

d. This is because in the world of petroleum business, a small degree of temperature change is a big deal to the business.

2. When filling fuel, do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. Set a lower mode as this can minimise the vapours created during pumping. If you pump too quickly, more vapours will build up and you are not getting worth of fuel.

a. Why?

b. In physics, the vapour created will occupy certain percentage of your car fuel tank.

3. Because of reason 2, it is recommended to fill your car when your tank is half full.

b. This is because less empty space will be occupied by the air. Note that petrol evaporates at high rate and this can have big impact of the amount you actually pump.

Add Page Elements to blog header

If you want to add more elements for header section, then you will need to make a change in the edit HTML. First, login to your dashboard. Then, click layout àclick “add a page element”. Depending on your blog template, most of the templates you download from the net will not show the “add a page element”; therefore you will need make a workaround by editing the HTML. Remember to backup your template before you proceed further.

Under the edit template section, scroll down until you find a section similar to what is shown in the picture below (the picture is based on my blog template).

From the picture above, the maximum widgets allowed is 1 only and the “show add element” is set to NO, which mean you cannot add a new page element from the “page element”.

Therefore, in order to add more page element, you will need to change the code. For example, if you want to have max of 3 page elements, you then have to change the following shown in red colour.

Note that the show element has been set to yes and this enable you to add a “add page element” link to the header at the page elements section.

You can also do the same for footer and blog post section.

Make sure navigation side bar is available at every page in your blog to enable search engines to spider your blog easily.
Update frequently.

Ok, before I begin, I will assume that most of you know the basic of blogging. I will go quickly here to emphasize the most important key element in blogging is to blog something that you are really interested or passionate with. It can be anything, maybe your personal life experiences, politics etc.

Before I proceed further, I would to stress on two main blogging platforms: Blogger (BlogSpot) and wordpress. If you don't have any intention of monetize your blog without putting any advertisement, then I suggest you to go with wordpress. It is free with more enhancement than BlogSpot but the bad thing is, you can't put javascipt as you please. On the other hand, if you plan on monetize your blog, and then go with BlogSpot.

I will be guiding on how to succeed in this field of making money online from my personal experience. And I know you can find this at other sites but what's the most interesting thing I am going to write is the failure before every success in making money from online. Most of the websites mentioning how successful they are and how much they have earned but what I will post here will be the guides for those who think the success is out from their reach. I honestly admit that my language is not good as English is not my first language. I am not web-developer. My real profession is as a pharmacist and I am currently working in UK. I had chosen the path as a pharmacist because I was under the influence of my parents who want me to study medicine course and I ended up here in UK as pharmacist. I am very interested in computer and electronic stuff just like some of you. Then later on, I start to blog to earn money as I find it's rather interesting. I had tried many methods offered by certain websites but I found they are really hard, not for person like me without any basic knowledge. I did earn a bit but too little.
