Cebu and Bohol Trip

January 8 – 11, 2011

My main agenda for this trip is to join the Cebu Marathon 2011. I registered at Planet Sports in Power Plant Mall last October 18, 2011. Right after I registered, I searched for a cheap airfare online, and booked it.

A month before my Cebu and Bohol trip, I’ve already planned for the whole tour including my accommodation which was for 3 nights (cost: 900 pesos) at Sugbutel and booked boat ride from Cebu to Bohol (vice versa) for January 10.

The day has finally arrived, I was all set and prepared for my trip.

First Day,

I prepared all the things I need and then went to the airport. After an hour plane ride, we reached our destination. They’re airport is as big as the one in Davao (they may have international flight). I got my things then hailed a taxi from airport to Sugbutel, I’ve decided to take yellow cab rather than the normal taxi because of the very long line of people. After 30 minutes of cab ride, Alas, I’ve reached the hotel. I’ve arranged my things before touring around the city.

At the City, I went to Ayala Center to pick-up my race kit for the Cebu Marathon. I’ve decided to eat at Ayala Center for my lunch (Luz Inasal). While inside the mall, I saw exhibit of different kinds of Sto. Nino, I took it as a chance to take photos.

I've also tried getting a tour package for tomorrow after my marathon, but the price of the tour is quite expensive for one person. I got tired walking around the mall so I’ve decided to go to Regency Hotel and avail their package for Skywalk and Edge Coaster (includes free t-shirt and snacks). I’m very excited and a little bit nervous at the same time. I guess it’s normal for a first timer like me. I’m assigned to join a group of family and a pair of lovers on the Skywalk. We were ushered to the 37th floor of the hotel. Our photos are being taken by their official photographer. They have a rules that guest/s are not allowed to take photos using their own cameras. Only the official photographer’s are allowed to do so. But for you to get a copy of photos you need to purchase it for 230 pesos each. After the Skywalk, I went to 38^th floor to try the Edge Coaster, same rules (no cameras allowed). I’m riding at the edge coaster while circulating around (whew! I’m quite afraid). I don’t know if you can consider this as extreme sports but for me it is. I went down to 19^th floor to grab my free snacks and also get my photos. Overall the price for the package is 750 pesos.

After that, I went to Shamrock store to buy their famous otap. I decided to go back to SM Cebu to search for a cheap price city tour. This time I rented a PC at Netopia and surfed for 30 minutes. Before going back to the hotel I ate dinner first at SM City Cebu food court. After dinner, I decided to have an early rest, preparation of my marathon the next day.

Second Day,

I woke up early, suited up for my race and headed to where the marathon took place. Upon hearing the gun shot, the race started. I’ve finished 5KM run with a 27 minutes mark, a good personal record for a newbie runner like me. After the race, I’ve got my freebies and cool down for a bit before heading back to the hotel.

Earlier before the race, I've contacted a number that I've got from the internet to inquire about their city tour package. Good thing they have an available driver to accommodate me for the 9:30 AM tour. So the minute I got back to the hotel, I called them again to ask for updates. They confirmed that the driver will pick me up at exactly 9:30 AM for the tour. Indeed, by the time the clock reach 9:30 AM the driver came up. And so our tour began.

We visited all the tourist spot within the city for 4 hours only, including the time we ate for lunch. We also bought dried mangos at 7D factory. Overall the cost for my city tour is 1150 pesos (900 pesos for 3 hours then plus 250 pesos for the next hour - maximum of 4 persons/ car).

After the driver drops me off back to the hotel, I took a 2 hours rest before heading to a place called Larsian sa Fuente, you can see lots of barbeque stalls here. They’re open from 4 PM till 5 AM. I ate different kinds of barbeque, the food taste really good I must say. After my so called “food trips”, I went to SM City Cebu, bought dessert and decided to tour around the mall. After almost 3 hours, I’ve decided to head back to the hotel and take a rest.

Third day,

Woke up around 6:30 AM and prepared things for my one day Bohol Trip. I went to Pier 4 and bought tickets/tours at Supercat for 2800 pesos (includes round trip tickets also). After 1 hour boat ride we reached Bohol, our tour guide is already waiting for us. I’m really excited to see the famous Chocolate Hills. The tour started around the city of Bohol to see the popular tourist spot. After our city tour in Bohol we went to pier going back to Cebu. Were back to Cebu then I plan to ate for dinner in Mcdo.

Fourth day,

This is my last day in Cebu. I woke up around 9 am and prepared all my things. My check out time is 12 noon but my scheduled flight is around 7pm. Having so much time left before my departure, I decided to go around the city while waiting for my 7pm flight. I deposited my luggage at the hotel lobby, planning to pick it up after touring around. I went to CNT Lechon, a place where you can eat the popular Cebu Lechon. I ordered half kilo of Cebu Lechon for lunch. I’m starving and I felt like I could finish it, all by myself, but off course I was wrong. Nonetheless, I decided to buy another half kilo of lechon for takeout together with my left over lechon as pasalubong. I’m used to “sarsa” like mang tomas as a sauce, but with soy sauce and vinegar, I was really amazed. It is not a common sauce for many of us. After that, I decided to go to SM to buy souvenir shirts. I still have some few hours before my flight so I just walked around the mall trying to kill time. I went back to hotel to pick my luggage before heading to the airport to catch my flight back to Manila.

My Bohol and Cebu trip was a blast. I really had a great time. I’ve met new people in my Bohol trip, a couple namely Jack and Rose (Jack is an American citizen and Rose is a true blood pinay). I also enjoy eating foods and seeing the popular places within the City. I would love to go for island hopping, once I got a chance to come back again.

Batad, Ifugao

We went to Batad, Ifugao and that was very interesting place to visit.

We visited the famous rice terraces, the famous landmark that is shown printed out in every 1000 peso bill. There we saw how farmers without the help of modern machines, turn the newly harvested crops into little rice grains that they can then sell to the market. We realized then the hard labour that comes with every single grain of rice that we eat, you therefore will tell yourself not to waste one piece of it. And also we notice that, people (middle age and senior citizen) in that place like to chew “nganga”, but I haven’t tried to chew one myself what we tried though is their popular “rice wine” (they called it ‘tapoi’) and it tastes good.

We took the jeepney to be able to reach the place that we were going to stay. However we were asked to ride not inside the vehicle but on top of the whole thing itself, you may think it’s a bit risky to do that but it is done by most tourists so that one will be able to see the beautiful surroundings. It was a bit scary and we were thankful that we did survive to reach the destination, It actually is not the place that we were going to stay, it’s the place where we need to start walking/trekking to then go to the house that were going to stay. It took us almost 2 hours to reach the place. When we arrived, we decided to take our lunch, we ordered ‘tinolang manok’ and the other is ‘sinigang na manok’. And we never forget to buy coke, to refresh our thirst. The price is expensive, maybe because its pretty hard for them to get all the supplies since it comes from “Bayan” which is how the city proper is called, all the hassle of going there would include walking back 2 hours to where the main road is and then again wait for some more time for a jeepney or a public vehicle to then get you to where the supplies are. That day, after we ate, it started to rain and all of us agreed to not go to the Falls anymore because it would no longer be safe according to our tour guide. What we did was visit one of the old farmers who we saw working in t rice fields. He was kind enough to teach us about a thing or two when it comes to farming, or getting grains of rice out of the crops manually without the help of any machinery. We even had a few history lessons from the old farmer about the local area. The old man speaks English also and he is a very happy man. He likes to sing with us and dance, and some of our group mates have chance to take some photos with him, actually picture taking is one of the reason why we went to the place courtesy of our good friend photographer. At night, we decided to play cards – who ever lose she/he will drink tapoi and decided to call it a fight.

Morning came, it was time for us to go to the Falls, we need to walk/trek again for almost 2 hours to reach the Falls. We all felt very excited to see the Falls, so no time to be tired. Halfway through our trek, we decided to have our breakfast. Then after 10 minutes of rest we started again to walk/trek. It was well worth all the hardships that we went thru because when we saw the Falls, we only had one word to say, “WOW” It was breath taking. We took a dip and swam the cold waters, took some photos together with the two foreigners that we met and also just take in the beauty of the whole place before starting our journey back to the house. We surely did not have one dull moment because all throughout we were always posing for pictures and having our tour guide capture it for us.

Back in the house, we then had our lunch, and got ready for our trip back to the “Bayan”. We got ready early as it is going to be a long walk again and we need to still try to do a bit more of sightseeing. We had our dinner and then proceeded to buy our “pasalubong” At around 6pm we reached the bus station, it’s gonna be a pretty long travel, since it takes 9-10 hours to get back to Manila, still we welcomed the long hours on the bus as we were all ready to take some much needed rest.

This trip is to be remembered and also I have time to meet new people that belong to that trip, courtesy of our good planner and photographer Mr. Gello. – good job sir and thanks for arranging this kind of trip.

Taal Volcano Crater Trip w/ Side trip to Tagaytay

Taal Volcano Crater Trip w/ Side trip to Tagaytay

I survived. I couldn’t believe that I can trek all the way to the Taal Volcano crater and back down without the help of a mighty horse. Whew!

It was a fine day and the trip started at 7:30 AM from Market! Market! Taguig City. We travelled using Itoy's van to Talisay Batangas where the TLYC (Taal Lake Yatch Club) is located. We've reached the place at around 9:30 AM and our first agenda: board a boat going to the volcano. The boat ride costs Php2800 which is good for 5 persons. There were eight of us so we rented 2, 4 persons in each off to the island where we have to start our trekking. We paid 50 each for the tourism fee and we've decided not to rent a horse that costs a whopping 750 pesos- either one way or two. Then we've started to trek. Two from our group decided to rent a horse (Gracee and Itoy). The rest ignored the heat and were enjoying the trekking and picture-taking. We were all in high spirits when we've reached half of the road. We rested for 15 minutes before continuing our trekking. Grace and Itoy lead the group were guided by the horsemen while we followed our tour guide.

After our break from ascending to peak of the volcano, it was then our time to descend to the crater. Going down was difficult than going up as it was so steep. As a consequence, some did slide unexpectedly. Myself, Edz and Arlen was fast (we’re not boasting here, haha) and so we had time to rest awhile under a Mango tree, and at the same time wait for the other three girls and our tour guide. Melai, Jewel and Maru decided to grab a horse as well because they were too tired; so the tour guide shouted at the top of his lungs for horse-- kidding. He called his allies from the community at the foot of the volcano. After a while, three horses came in striding so fast to their rescue. While they waited, we continued conquering the crater- we were happy we made it! Once you’re there, and even when you’re still at the volcano’s peak, you’ll see smokes from the side. This is due to scattered holes with a boiling gray mud-like thing in it. Gracee and Itoy allowed us to borrow their horses so we could take a good look at these holes. It was boiling hot! One of the horsemen joked that there was once a cow that accidentally fell off the hole and poof! Lechon! 

Before leaving the crater, we've done lots of things: we took a lot of pictures, ourselves and that of the crater; we ate, share stories, cracked jokes and blinded ourselves with a marvellous place. Some tourists swam the crater, some just came, took pictures and go. Children, teens, adults, young adults and our lovely senior citizens—age clearly hadn’t stop them from killing time in Taal Volcano Crater.

It was then our time to go back. This time, 5 of us were on horses while Edz, I, Arlen and our tour guide held on to our mighty foot wears. If you think it would be easier going back, think again. We’ve had much plenty of rests because it's harder to climb as it’s so steep and hot as the sun is soaring up in the sky. It was tough, but we thought we really have to finish it without the horse. Blame me, when we were halfway there, I realized I badly needed a drink and worst, I don’t have water anymore. Believe it or not: I unearthed a 12ml Gatorade from nowhere. I thought I was blessed I did something like that until someone woke me up from that blessed dream and was declaring: “Php50 po” Yes. It’s expensive.  So eager to finish that mess, we continued trekking until we were there joining our peers. We've made it and we are very happy to say that “we survived”. :)

It's time to go back to TLYC and fix our tired but contented selves and head towards Tagaytay to grab a lunch. It was already 2PM when we've placed ourselves in the arms of Leslies, one of the popular restaurants in Tagaytay with the overview of the Taal Volcano. After lunch we bought coffee from Starbucks then we went to Picnic Grove for sight-seeing. There were Zip lines and Cable cars (weekdays 100 one way and 200 two way, for weekends 200 one way and 300 two ways). After fully exhausting ourselves, we've decided it’s time to head back home. In the van we all look so tired and almost not wanting to say anything but we knew, come Monday, the room would be a notch noisier because of the stories we have. This is one of the most beautiful places in the Philippines that you should not forget to visit. The place can be reached by Air, for about 45 minutes. The destination is from Manila – Busuanga. You can book your flight from one of the following airlines Philippine Airlines, Air Philippines, Zest Air and Cebu Pacific.

At Busuanga airport, you need to ride a Van going to Coron Town. We stayed at Coron Reef Pension House for 3 nights and 4 days (very simple). The place can accommodate 8 persons per room. You can contact Tata at 09095814463 for the tour package details. But there’s lot of tour packages you can get when you are already in Coron Town, that I think, is much cheaper. But we have decided to get the service of Tata so that we are all set and hassle free at the time we arrive in the place.

Places I've visited in Bangkok, Thailand

Grand Palace - is a complex of buildings in Bangkok, Thailand. It served as the official residence of the Kings of Thailand from the 18th century onwards. Construction of the Palace began in 1782, during the reign of King Rama I, when he moved the capital across the river from Thonburi to Bangkok. The Palace has been constantly expanded and many additional structures were added over time. The present King of Thailand, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, however, resides at the Chitralada Palace.

A very good place to start my journey is to go to a very popular tourist attraction in Bangkok, the Grand Palace. The place looks really “Grand” and the temples are outstanding. They are open from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. It’s better to go there early in the morning to fully enjoy the place as there are only quite a few people at that time. It may be a big place and getting tired is inevitable, but seeing the breathtaking temples and statues, it’s worth it and enjoyable even you are alone. So don’t forget the cameras for pictures . You can ask someone to take you a picture, just approach them nicely.

How to get there:

From Nana Station (BTS) to Taksin Station - cost 35 BAHT

Go down and walk straight until you reach the Ferry Boat Pier.

From Tha Satorn Pier to Tha Chang Pier - cost 13 BAHT

Entrance fee is 250 BAHT.

Wat Pho - also known as The Temple of the Reclining Buddha, is a Buddhist temple in Phra Nakhon district, Bangkok, Thailand, located in the Rattanakosin district directly adjacent to the Grand Palace. Its official full name is Wat Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangklararm Rajwaramahaviharn. The temple is also known as the birthplace of traditional Thai massage.

How to get there:

From Nana Station (BTS) to Taksin Station - cost 35 BAHT

Ayutthaya Sightseeing Tour

The ancient city of Ayutthaya, The Thai capital for 417 years, is one of Thailand's major tourist attractions. Sightseeing with elephant tour guide.

Ayutthaya is a former capital of Thailand (1350-1767) and offers magnificent : ruins of early splendour some of which have been restored and some of which are still under-going archaeological excavations.

yutthaya is situated about 76 kms. north of Bangkok. The driver goes through paddy fields and orchards, the most valuable assets of Thailand.

Visit Wat Yai Chai Mongkol is situated to the southeast and opposite to Ayutthaya city. A large Chedi of this Wat can be seen from a far distance. This monastery was built by King U-Thong in 1357 A .D. for the use of the monks who had returned from Ceylon after studying under Phra Vanarat Maha Thera.

Before we started walking around, our tour guide gave us a brief history of the place. All are listening to him and some are asking questions as well. In this place, you will see a giant gold Buddha. I also remember, I saw a very small pagoda with stuffed toys (Winnie the Pooh and Doraemon) and I don’t know why? 

Visit Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit . Phra Mongkhon Bophit, a large bronze cast Buddha image was originally enshrined in the open area outside the Grand Palace and later covered by a building in the reign of king Songtham. During the fall of Ayutthaya , the building was badly destroyed by fire. The one currently seen was reconstructed,but does not have as beautiful craftsmanship as the previous one. The open area east of the sanctuary was where the royal cremation ceremonies took place.

In this place, you are required to remove your shoes or slippers when entering inside the temple.

Visit Wat Phra Si Sanphet . This is the most important temple within the Royal Palace compound and the original from which the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok has been copied. Three outstanding Ceylonese style pagodas were built during the 15th century to enshrine the ashes of three Ayutthaya kings.

Visit Wat Maha That - The Heart and Soul of City From Artifacts and the style of the Pagoda, we believe that Wat Maha That was built before the Ayutthaya Period or around the 14th Century. One of the images which were excavated by the Fine Art Department was a Buddha Image in the Sitting Attitude (sitting with drop down legs). This image belonged to the Lopburi Period. The Pagodas are from the Bayon Style or Bayon Period (compared to Khmer culture) which are built with laterite.

Visit Wat Na Phra Mane Visit Wat Nah Phramane . See The Principal Buddha statue wearing The Royal Attire. This temple was once used by the Burmese as their headquarters when they besieged Ayutthaya in 1767. The Chapel Hall of Wat Na Phra Mane is one of the largest in Ayutthaya , which contains a total of 9 rooms (most Wats were only 3 or 5 rooms).

Where to get a cheaper Ayutthaya day tour package? Go to Khaosan Road where all backpackers are staying.

After my visit to Grand Palace and Wat Pho I went to Khaosan Road to seek for travel agency that offers a cheaper price. From there I got a tour package to Ayutthaya for only 450 BAHT! In my trip to Ayutthaya, I met lots of people from different countries. The first was an Indian Lady, wearing her traditional Indian outfit. The first time I saw her, I never taught that she was from India because of her complexity. The next one was the Korean Family, 5 kids travelling to Bangkok with their Dad. To start my conversation with them, I asked them if they knew the song "Nobody" by Wonder Girls and they said "Yes we know it” and I told them that song was very popular in my country. They all looked shocked because they did not know until I've informed them. But then, they looked happy to hear that. They even sung the song "Nobody"! I also told them that their Korean Drama’s are also very popular in the Philippines. The next people that I met were Chinese. A woman with her Dad and it's also their first time in Bangkok. Lastly, I met my two Kababayans namely B1 and B2 (girls). That's the name that they told me when I asked them, then I said "ah ok" with a smile.

I had the opportunity to talk to one of our guide and asked some questions about Thai cultures and others. We had a free lunch. All food was prepared like Filipino food and it's nice and delicious. I've also tried their own version of ice cream on stick and it tastes good, even the other tourists liked it. After the tour they dropped us off at the Khaosan Road. My two Kababayan and I walked around the Khaosan road to check if there’s sweet tamarind candy available on that place for Pasalubong. But we are not lucky enough to have it in a cheaper price so we’ve decided to buy tomorrow at the Chatuchak Market. We end up buying their Phatai Chicken Noodles and Shake for snacks only, hehehehe. After that they accompanied me to the Pier station to go back to my place.

Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm and Zoo

The World's largest Crocodile Farm, located 10 km from Bangkok founded in 1950 by the famous Crocodile King, Mr. Utai Youngprapakorn. Mr. Utai has been the pioneer not only to preserve the endangered spesies from extinction, but also to provide a continuing flow of crocodile skins and related products to the world market. Here at Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm and Zoo. we are dedicated to the education, preservation, research and the conservation of wildwife, while reminding all-extinction lasts forever. The largest crocodile ever held in captivity is an Estuarine/Siamese hybrid named "Yai" (b. 10 June 1972) at the famous Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm & Zoo, Thailand. He measures 6m 19ft 8 in length and weighs 1114.27 kg 2465 lb.

They are open from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily. That was my first time to witness a crocodile show. I was nervous and hoping that no one will get hurt. The show was very suspense and everyone have no idea what will happened. After the show I was thankful that no one was hurt. Then, I went to the other side to witness the elephant show. I saw an elephant playing the harmonica (musical instrument) and some are touring around the court/gym to get money from the audience.

How to get there:

Take the air conditioned buses no. 7, 8, 11, 102, 142, 145. (Always ask the bus driver just to be sure). The entrance fee is 300BAHT if you’re a Thai, if not; you need to pay 500 BAHT.

Chatuchak (Jajutak) Market

They call it the “weekend market”. Before getting to the market you can also visit their park. The market is very big and there are lots of things you can buy in this market like bag, shoes, foods, dogs and more. In the entrance of the market you can get their map so that you will not get lost.

How to get there:

Take the sky train BTS Mo Chit station.

Bangkok airport is very beautiful compare to my home country airport. In my arrival to the place, I took the Airport Bus for 150 BAHT to the place where I will be staying. The hostel was affordable and the employees were all very kind. Then going back to the airport from where I stayed, I took a taxi, which costs 350 BAHT. It was kind of expensive but I don't have time to go to the bus terminal because I was very tired. Nevertheless, I had a good trip on my 4 days stay in Bangkok.

Conclusion, Thai people are very kind and helpful.

I went to Kuala Lumpur for a much needed vacation this December. I stayed at Rainforest Bed and Breakfast. Rainforest is located at 27 Jalan Mesui , Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. The place is good and I would love to stay there again when I comeback to Kuala Lumpur. The place is also near the popular malls in the city namely Pavillion, BB Plaza and Plaza Low Yat. There is also lots of local restaurant you can choose from, even popular fast food restaurants like McDonalds and KFC.

I've meet lots of people from around the world during my stay in Kuala Lumpur. --some are British, Australians, Americans, Taiwanese and especially Pinoys.

How to get there:

Ride a bus going to KL Sentral from the KL - LCCT airport, the ride will cost you about 8 RM.

From KL Sentral - take a taxi and show the address to the taxi driver, it will cost you 13 RM. An alternative is for you to take the Mono Rail, just walked to the KL Sentral station, This will take you back 2.50 RM from KL Sentral to Bukit Bintang. To make sure you won’t get lost bring a Map or ask people for directions.

Places I've visited in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

Batu Caves - The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India, dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia. It is a nice place with lots of dove birds at the ground floor. You need to walk 272 steps to get inside the cave and that’s one of my proudest accomplishments :). Inside the cave you will see some monks and statues of their God in the mini temple or altar.

How to get there:

To get to Batu Caves you have to take the Rajah Chulan monorail station near Jalan Nagasari. The fare from Rajah Chulan station to Titiwangsa Station is 2.50 RM.

After which you have to walk along the crossing and go to the other side of the road and wait for a bus going to Batu Caves (there is a sign board but you also need to ask the driver to be sure).

China Town - This is the place were you can buy cheap stuff like bags, foods, shirts, key chains, accessories and a lot more.

How to get there:

Take the RapidKL train to Pasar Seni Station.

Then walk through the Petailing Street (China Town) - it’s near the station so you just have to walk on the other side. You will notice lots of people coming in and out of that place (better to have MAP).

KL Tower - (officially known as Menara Kuala Lumpur; referred later as KL Tower) is a tall tower located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Its construction was finished in 1994,. and was named the world’s largest tower. When you get there you will need to pay 38 RM to enter the KL Tower Observation Deck and you will get a free KL Tower mineral water as your souvenir. It also includes the viewing of some animals in their mini zoo, riding the horses and experiencing the F1 simulator.

How to get there:

From Jalan Nagasari walk through the main road to Jalan Raja, when you see the tower walk some more until you get to the entrance. (Follow the MAP).

Petronas Twin Towers - the tallest buildings in the world until Taipei 101 was completed in 2004, as measured to the top of their structural components (spires, but not antennas). If you want to go inside the tower you will need to go there very early to get a ticket pass because they can only accommodate specific number of people per day. There is a mall at the ground floor of which is called Suria, this is where you will find designer labels and popular brands sold in different stores. I remembered when I was in High School and my teacher in English showed us a movie called “Entrapment” which featured the Petronas Tower in one of their scenes.

It’s my second time to visit Quezon. The first time was when I was just 22 years old. I was then working for Bingo Bonanza Corporation and I needed to visit our branch in SM Lucena to set-up their new batch of computers.

The second time was to witness a feast at Lucban called Pahiyas. The Pahiyas festival in Lucban Quezon is celebrated every May 15th in honor of St. Isidro Labrador. The date is fixed and this year, it fell on a Friday. Saint Isidro is known as the Catholic patron saint of farmers that is why the feast is not only celebrated in Lucban but also all around Laguna during Harvest season. Coincidentally, Pahiyas celebration is within the rainy season.

I’m very excited to experience the festivities. I was with my officemate Edz and we decided to commute to Quezon. We rode a bus at Buendia but I forgot how much we paid for the ride from Manila to Lucena. After 3 hours we’ve reached SM City Lucena and after of scrunching in a bus Edz and I are ready to stretch our legs again. We just walked from SM to Ed’z aunt’s house. Ed’z relatives gave us a heart-warming welcome which I am very thankful for. Before taking off to our final destination we ate our breakfast to get energized and ready for the festival.

We took a Van going to Lucban. We were in it with some friends of Edz’s aunt and it made me feel uncomfortable at first but because Edz is with me I became at ease after a while. After an hour of travelling we’ve reached Lucban and saw a lot of decorations in each house. To fully enjoy it you will have to walk by every house and take a picture of each one. Upon questioning the town folks I found out that they decorate their houses because of 2 reasons: For the town feast and for the yearly decoration contest.

After going around town to check all the decorated houses and taking some pictures, Edz and I decided to eat pancit lucban (they called it “pancit habhab”) at the famous Lucban restaurant “Buddy’s”.

After the sumptuous meal we bought some “pasalubong” and rested for a while. Once we’ve regained our strength we decided to go to another place called “Kamay ni Hesus” , also found Lucban. The shrine of Kamay ni Hesus is located at the slopes of Mt. Banahaw, Barangay Tinamnan, Lucban, Quezon. The church celebrates healing masses everyday at 10am. In this site is a 292-steps hill with life-sized figures depicting the 14 Stations of the Cross, and on top of it is a 50-foot statue of Jesus Christ that is said to be the third biggest in the world.

It was very hot at the time but because we wanted to reach the top of the hill we did not hesitate to climb up and alas, succeeded.

After almost one day of walking and going up and down the hill, we’ve decided to go back to Edz aunt’s house to pack our things before going home. After which Edz accompanied me to the bus terminal at SM City Lucena and I went on my way home. I’ve have a wonderful trip and I will not hesitate to do it again next year.

Last March 2006 I, together with my officemates went to Cagayan de Oro for a business trip but of course, we didn’t let our work enslave us! After our tasked is finished we decided to go around and explore Cagayan de Oro. The office manager for our provincial branch brought us to the Macahambus Adventure Park where we did all sorts of crazy stuff like Skybridge, Zipline and Rappelling. It’s my first time to try those things and I was so happy and excited to try those extreme (but not too extreme for me) sports.

We wanted to remember that trip for the rest of our lives that is why we made sure we have photos of every activity that we did. A funny thing that happened is that during the zipline we asked a lady to take pictures of us but because it all happened so fast she was only able to capture the background.

After all that we went to Macahambus Cave. It was a very short cave with a river at the end wherein you can see where the famous white water rafting activities is happening.

Well, that’s the end of our journey. Make sure that once you visit Cagayan de Oro you won’t miss out on buying one of their famous delicacies, the sweet yummy Pastel for pasalubong.

If you want to experience Zipline, Skybridge and Rappelling it’s PHP500 each but if you want to try only the skybridge and zipline it’ll be PHP300 pesos each.

The Macahambus Adventure Park is conveniently located at Barangay Lumbia, a 25-minute ride from the heart of the city, and 10 minutes from the airport. More Photos...

How to Get There
Getting to the Clark Special Economic Zone by car is easy. One simply needs to take the North Luzon Expressway from Manila and exit at Dau, Mabalacat. Take a left turn towards Angeles City and make an easy right turn into Clark itself. After entering the main gate, proceed along Roxas highway, and the Balloon Fiesta will be to your right.

The trip should take about an hour and a half from Manila.

Public Transport

Public buses also ply the route on a daily basis. Ride a Victory Liner bound for Dagupan and alight at the Dau common terminal. Philippine Rabbit also has trips to Angeles, Pampanga via Dau. Other buses going north also pass by the area. Ask the driver or conductor beforehand to be sure.

From the Dau bus terminal, walk a bit toward the highway where jeepneys or tricycles are available. These vehicles can take you to the Clark gate.There is a jeepney terminal there with public utility vehicles that can take you to the fiesta grounds.

By Air

There are two airlines offering domestic flights to Clark's Diosdado Macapagal International Airport: Cebu Pacific, SEAIR, and Zest Airways. San Antonio is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Zambales in the Philippines. According to the latest Philippine census, it has a population of 32,494 people in 6,483 households.

San Antonio was a hunting region where indigenous hunters from the northern towns of Zambales would hunt, and gather. The first settlers from the Paoay region of the Ilocos Norte arrived in 1830, and founded the first Spanish settlement that developed into what is now San Antonio.

San Antonio was given the status of district or barrio in 1836. The town mayor in that period was Don Gregorio Banaga. He governed the town from 1836 to 1849. He was succeeded by Don Vicente Lacuesta in 1849, from Teniente Primero to Teniente Absoluto. The last mayor was Don Santiago Ladrillono. He was succeeded by Don Dimas Pascasio as governor in 1856. They selected their leaders every year. In 1891 to 1898, Don Pablo Corpuz was the only Capitan Municipal selected then appointed Don Felix Magsaysay as the first President municipal, and many more followed up to 1931 to 1945.

The town was the site of the United States Navy known as the San Miguel Naval Communication Station. After the earthquake and eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991, the United States Army decided to abandoned their military based in the Philippines.

Featured Tourist Attractions of this Town

Anawangin Cove is a crescent shaped cove with a pristine white sand beach. What makes the place unique is the unusual riddle of tall pine trees flourishing round its vicinity. There are no roads leading to Anawangin. It is only accessible by a 30 minute boat ride from Pundaquit, San Antonio, Zambales or by a six-hour trek through hot, open trails thru the Pundaquit range. The cove's relative isolation has kept it free from development - as of this writing, there are no resorts on this sparkling piece of natural beauty, save for a few huts and deep wells.

Capones Island and a couple of other smaller islands (the Camera Islands) lie a few kilometers from the shores of Pundaquit, Zambales. The Camera islands are 2km offshore and Capones is 3 kilometers farther (5.2 km offshore). Capones and Camera are known for their white beaches, speckled with colorful crushed coral. Clear turquoise waters held us spell-bound. High rock cliffs beckon rappellers. Capones is known for an old Spanish-era lighthouse that brings visitors back in time.

An island with a figure of a man’s face on its side, white sand and green-clear waters compose one of the hidden beauty of the Paradise Philippines…..the Capones Island! It is also known for an old lighthouse built during the Spanish era which will bring you back in time for sure.

Places to Visit in Pagudpud

Patapat Viaduct is an elevated concrete highway constructed along winding/rocky headlands near the northernmost roadway section in Ilocos Norte (could be considered second northernmost roadway section in Luzon) this viaduct was constructed to solve the problem of landslides in the area which have caused so many vehicular accidents in the past. (Blue Lagoon)Maira-ira point is the name given to Luzon mainland's northernmost tip. Nestled in its confines is an unspoiled, white-sand cove that has yet to become popular with the mainstream beach-combing crowd. The beach is known simply as Maira-ira or blue lagoon. On calm days, when the notorious Ilocos surf is taking a break, the waters off the cove can be still as a pond, mirroring the azure sky to form a stunning blue loch. The sparkling fine sand is even better than its well-known neighbour, Saud beach (or Pagudpud). With virtually no tourist accommodations, save for a couple of simple nipa huts, the whole place exudes a charm of isolation. Hemmed by hills around its perimeter, swimming and basking on the crescent cove can be a very private experience. It is a serene place, lending much to the feeling of being at the frontier.

Kaibigan Falls can be found in the town of Pagudpud Ilocos Norte, from the national road its about 1.5km away you can walk or you can rent the off road vehicle found in the entrance of the route, by the way there is a 20 pesos preservation fee upon entering kaibigan falls which you will pay at the gate, ideally you should get a local guide which is actually required if you dont have one, you can pay them up to 100 pesos. If you would walk it will take you about 30 minutes to do so, along the way you will pass by farmlands, streams and finally the falls which is very beautiful, water is so clear and cold you can see the bottom of the waterfall basin. Cape Bojeador Light House, they call it Faro Cabo Cape Bojeador, as it set majestically on a hill overlooking the South China Sea, located approximately 35 kilometres north of the City of Laoag, the lighthouse is the most accessible of all lighthouses in the north of the Island of Luzon. It was built in 1892 and is still functioning to date, serving ships passing by the northern part of South China Sea. This is one of the famouse historical landmark in the province of Ilocos Norte. Agua Grande, Dubbed “Dakkel A Danum,” (Big Water) in the vernacular, this stretch of spectacular and thunderous rapids going under and across the Maharlika Highway lies at the far end of the Patapat Viaduct. Also called by its Spanish name, “Agua Grande,” it powers the hydrothermal plant right next to it, before swirling and gurgling its way into the South China Sea nearby. Bantay Abot Caves (meaning “mountain with a hole”) is located in Sitio Gaoa, Brgy. Balaoi. A storm collapsed the cave but terns and swallows still nest here. A few meters from the cave is the bell-shaped Timangtang Rock. Bantay Abot Cave and Timmantang Rock are believed to be lovers, the former being the female and the later the male. The Baluarte is a 20 hectare land with a mini zoo, shooting range, and a chapel. It is also known as Chavit’s Fortress. Access to the mini zoo, where Singson’s numerous pet tigers and other animals are found are free for the public, as he considers this as a gift to the people. (from: pinoyblog)

Bantay, Ilocos Sur is a small town close to Vigan City. This town is popularized more because of its Bell Tower that is perched on top of a hill. You can't missed it when you take the national highway going south of the province of Ilocos Sur. Bantay has also an elaborate church. The Bantay Catholic Church is beautiful. It was built during the Spanish period (1530s). The architectural design is influenced by the Europeans although it was built under the Spanish regime by the local people. Calle Crisologo is virtual tourist playground. Among the buildings along the street are hotels, pension houses, souvenir shops, and restaurants. Many of the houses have those typical wooden benches in front where anyone can sit. And in the evening, dining establishments set up tables on the street so people can eat their dinner al fresco. Ilocos Norte – Marcos Museum

The museum is where memorabilia of the late president is stored, from his stint in the Armed Forces down to his presidency. Here, taking pictures are allowed. Among the things you can view here are tons of photos of him and Imelda, military awards, pieces of his writing, and his work desk. I’m not 100% sure but I think the museum houses the office of former Ilocos Norte Representative Imee Marcos, his daughter, and current Ilocos Norte Representative Bongbong Marcos, his son. Avoid public transport when and if possible. It's slow and inefficient. There are rare exceptions of course, but overall it's not the most effective way to use the limited time you may have.

Overall just go with the flow. Traveling, especially aboard is one of the best experiences you will ever have. You'll meet tons of other people who just want to see the world and have a good time doing it just like you!
