Although it's still a bit chilly out, my mind is completely in spring-mode. I've been slowly putting away my plum cosmetics and replacing them with soft pinks and peaches. One of my current favorite spring cheek products is the Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks in the shade Fresh Melon ($25 at Sephora).

The packaging is sleek and compact, featuring a flip top and a mirror for those who would like to apply this on the go.

Fresh Melon is a soft peach with a touch of pink. It has no shimmer, but does have a subtle glowy effect on the cheeks. It sheers out very easily with either fingers or, my preferred method, the Real Techniques Stippling Brush.

It works wonders on my fair skin, but doesn't overpower - just gives a warmth across my cheeks.

Since I am very oily, I do experience some fading throughout the day, but I'm still very pleased with this cream blush (if I know I'm having an extra long day, I will set this product with a powder blush in a similar color).

This color did, however, look terrible on my lips - too light! Used solely for cheeks, though, I am loving this product for spring.

My dear friend Ashley has been working out of town for the past few months. To be honest, I'm a little lonely and weird without her. ; ) She finally got time off for spring break, so we took advantage of the day to visit a new coffee/sandwich spot in Middleburg - Common Grounds.

Lunch was delicious. I had the "Mosby" sandwich (black forest ham and Gruyere cheese). It was neat to notice Common Grounds supporting the local home fragrance brand, Sydney Hale. I have been burning the Fig + Vanilla in my bedroom lately.

Ashley and I also swung into The Upper Crust, Jer's favorite bakery, to pick him up some sweets.

I'm proud of Ash for all her hard work, but I can't wait to have my partner in crime back full-time this summer. : )

Karin, who has introduced me to some fabulous places and things during the course of our friendship, recently invited me to check out a shop she has been loving.

Trohv is located in Takoma Park (there is also a location in Baltimore) and is filled with the most gorgeous home goods, stationary, furniture and gifts. The ladies working at Trohv were kind enough to let me take pictures while Karin & I shopped.

I left with some accessories for my day planner (cute calendar stickers & a masking tape sticker set), a face mask, and two pieces of floral tupperware. When I'm through burning my current candles, I'll definitely be back for one of these Rewined candles.

In this Get Ready With Me video, I feature peach and plum shades. I've been all about the matchy-matchy lips and cheeks lately, so I chose two very similar shades. For blush I used Tarte's Blissful - the most beautiful warm peach. Since I had a lot going on with the eyes, I used a simple gloss, a gift from Paula's choice, their Perfect Shine Hydrating Lip Gloss in Peachy Cream.

For eyes, I used the Benefit World Famous Neutrals in Sexiest Nudes Ever. I kept the lid and crease a soft plum, and then really packed on the silver shimmer shade on the lower lash line. The silver gave the look a brightness and a more wide-awake appearance.

I think I may have mentioned that back in December I won an Instagram contest hosted by Emerging Thoughts. As I was browsing their site to determine how I would spend my winnings, I came across these vinyl wall decals. I knew that they would be perfect for my bedroom, which has sadly been overlooked in the interior decorating department.

They were easy to apply...well, I don't know this first hand. Jer was super helpful and put them up while I was at work late one night. I love how the accent wall turned out!

Next, maybe I'll even break down and finally get a headboard. ; )

For some non-beauty favorites:

I cannot get enough of two artists lately. First, Sea Wolf (especially the song "Old Friend") has been on repeat for over a month now. Also, I think I've mentioned my obsession with Andy Zipf. I had the chance to see him perform live again in January - such a crazy amount of talent.
I have two book recommendations for you. What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty immediately drew me in. The characters were totally believable. The main character, Alice, wakes up from a fall and realizes she has forgotten the last ten years of her life. You follow her as she tries to piece out how she became the woman she is today - a woman who has children now and whose relationships have fallen apart - so interesting! Next, Me Before You by Jojo Moyes is a love story, but a love story that makes you think. It's sad and beautiful, and I am so glad my friend Becky recommended it on Goodreads.

I would love to read some of your current favorites. : )

I had been wanting to buy some of the new Too Faced La Crème shades since I heard about them in December. I kept checking my local Sephoras without any luck. Then on Monday, I popped into Ulta and walked by a beautiful display of all of Too Faced's new products. I even had a 20% off coupon with me so it felt like fate. : )

Coupons at Ulta are a bit weird. They usually come with a lot of fine print, and by the time you are done reading. you realize the coupon excludes prestige brands. This particular coupon did have some exemptions, but happily for me the products I was interested in all qualified for the 20% off.

Zoya Aurora: This polish I first heard about on Mary's blog. The color is just as unique and beautiful as she had said. Even Jer commented that he liked my nails last night.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Flush: If this blush looks crazy that's because it is. This is definitely not a color that I'm normally drawn to, but during a recent outing, Sarah pointed this blush out to me. I went home and looked up reviews. It really is stunning if used with a light hand. I have found that the Real Techniques Stippling Brush is the best way for me to get a natural application.

Too Faced La Crème in Bumbleberry (top) & Loganberry (bottom): These were what prompted this post. The La Crème formula is one of my favorite lipstick formulas, and berry shades I find very flattering and easy to wear. Bumbleberry is a slightly browny rose berry, and Loganberry is a true pink berry in my eyes. I was also interested in Teddyberry but found it to be too similar to Spice Spice Baby to justify the purchase. I'm incredibly pleased with these and would recommend checking them out if you haven't already.

I'm taking a break from my regular videos to share something I've challenged myself to complete in 2013 - use up ten beauty products. These are definitely not bad products. They are just ones I've had for a while or maybe I have something I prefer to use.

I think this is a really doable challenge, so I'm excited to share my progress throughout the year. : )

Julep is a monthly subscription service that I pay for (you can read more about it here). This month I chose the American Beauty box. Inside there was a major polish favorite, and one that was kind of a flop.

For extras I received the Julep Instant Warming Foot Scrub. That sounds like heaven to me - super excited to use it! Also, they included as a little bonus item - a create your own Cabonchon ring. The stone is clear and the idea is that you paint it with the polish of your choice. This is not something I would have bought on my own, but it's a fun, unique item. Once I paint mine, I'll share a picture with you all. : )

Onto the polishes!

Julep Julia: Purple orchid metallic with gold micro-glitter. This color is so beautiful. I could not get a picture to truly capture just how pretty it is. Also, I've had it on my nails for quite a few days and there are no chips or tip wear so far.

Julep Patti: Full-coverage black multidimensional glitter. This polish I was not as pleased with. The formula was a bit hard to work with, and it felt very gritty on my nails. If you are looking for a black polish with glitter, I prefer butter LONDON's Gobsmacked.

Looking back over the past couple of years, I have been to some pretty amazing concerts. Two really stand out - Laura Marling and First Aid Kit. Not only were the performances incredible, but they both took place at the same venue, the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue.

So since I had already fallen in love with the Sixth & I Synagogue, I was excited when my friend Karin invited me to a concert there this past Saturday. I wasn't sure what to expect. She knows one of the performers, but it wasn't just him playing. Nine other artists got together for something called We are the 9. From their website -

Founded in 2008 by singer/songwriter Justin Trawick, "The 9 Songwriter Series" is a touring live music event based in Washington, DC. The show was created with the idea of nine artists getting together and combining their talents in order to play in nicer clubs and to larger amounts of people. Each installment features nine solo singer/songwriters performing in rotation and often sitting in with each other, providing audiences with a rich, intimate, varied listening experience.

I had assumed it would be taking place where the Laura Marling and First Aid Kit had sung, but there is a basement where artists with smaller audiences perform (did not know that). It gave the evening a very intimate feel.

Not only did each performer play, but they also played with each other and got the audience involved. We clapped, sang, and even played accompaniment with our phones (sounds crazy, but it happened!).

The caliber of artists was pretty astounding. There was also a lot of variety, so there was something for everyone no matter your taste in music. I would love to see The 9 play again (check their website for concert dates. I think they are in California now.). Some people who especially stood out to me - Joy Ike brought such a fun energy to the stage. Her song Nomad gave me chills. Bradley Rhodes of the band Melodime has the most beautiful voice. I'm hoping to check out one of Melodime's shows in the new year. Oh, and Andy Zipf - I'm a bit obsessed with his album, Jealous Hands. You can download it for free on his website.

I'm excited to bring my November beauty favorites to you today!

Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque: All the heat styling I do to my hair plus the dry weather was damaging my hair and making it look a bit lackluster. In November, I started using this hair treatment twice a week and noticed a marked difference. I will definitely be repurchasing.
Paula's Choice RESIST Weightless Body Treatment with 2% BHA: If you have dry skin or those annoying little bumps on the back of your arms, this body treatment by Paula's Choice is just the thing. I am working on a post of my favorite winter skin savers and will be including this product.

Urban Decay Cosmetics Smoked Eyeshadow Palette: This palette has gotten a lot of love from me lately. Urban Decay shadows are top quality and the colors are perfect for this time of year.

Sonia Kashuk Instructional Eye Palette in Eye on Neutral: I picked up this palette from Target on a whim and am really impressed with how easily these shades blend - that can be an issue sometimes with matte shadows. While it's a bit pricer than most drugstore makeup, I think it's completely worth it and am happy to have it in my makeup drawer.

Yves Saint Laurent Glossy Stain in N 5 Rouge Vintage: Is is weird to call a lip product magical? Because that is exactly how I feel about these Glossy Stains. I think these would make the perfect gift for a mom or girlfriend - pocket-sized luxury!

Julep Keira: deep wine burgundy
Estee Lauder Blue Blood: This polish was a gift from my mom (she's so nice : ) ). I'm really impressed with how easily it applies, and the wear time is pretty good too.

Things are pretty quiet around the house this morning. I'm feeling a bit under the weather, but I am happy - this is the first year that I started Christmas shopping back in July. It is such a good feeling to be on top of it.

I just uploaded a short video sharing some things I purchased in the Sephora VIB sale. My mom and I went together and spent what was probably way too long in store, but we had a blast.

Julep is a monthly subscription service that I pay for (you can read more about it here). I feel like I say this every month, but I really loved this box! : ) For November I chose the Bombshell box, featuring two polishes, a body frosting, and nail polish remover pads.

I've been using the Pink Grapefruit Body Frosting this week. It is very rich and has a great citrus scent. I'm going to be saving the One-Step Polish Remover Pads - they will be perfect to travel with over the holidays.

Today is all about red lips! As soon as ban.do released their fall / holiday collection, I fell in love. This is easily my favorite collection so far. As a brand ambassador, I got to pick an item - immediately the Smooch Bobbi called my name. : )

I love reading Dani's Currently Posts, so I thought I would share my own. : )

Watching: I finally gave into my friend Ashley's recommendation and watched the first season of Once Upon a Time via Netflix. I love it, even if it's pretty corny at times. It's the perfect thing to put on while folding laundry or editing photos.

Listening to: Recently I have been listening to Lord Huron (another Ashley recommendation), Kindlewood, A Fine Frenzy, and Local Natives.

Thinking about: Are you reading Anonymous Was a Woman? I especially loved this thought-provoking post: On Happiness.

Working on: New videos! I have a "get the look" video coming up featuring a rose gold eyeshadow. After that is a video showcasing my top five red lip products. (I'm such a sucker for a bold red lip.)

Looking forward to: This weekend my friend Karin and I are going to see Alex Goot in concert. Not my usual kind of music, and I do think we will be the oldest people there. The main reason for going is that the girlfriend of one of the openers is Ingrid (aka missglamorazzi on YouTube). I'm excited to meet her. : )

Reading: I read and loved Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking. This was a wonderful book. Even if you aren't an introvert, it is worth a read because most likely you interact with introverts everyday. I read The Great Gatsby for the second time - a very powerful, quick read. Currently I'm working on The End of Your Life Book Club and Daring Greatly. So far I'm enjoying both, but I'll report back once I finish them.
