Jungle Cruise Goes ‘Jingle Cruise’: For the holiday season, Jungle Cruise will temporarily transform into “Jingle Cruise” for Magic Kingdom guests with festive decor in the attraction queue and boathouse, holiday names for the Jungle Cruise boats and a slew of seasonal jokes from the Skippers to their passengers. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party will have 19 magical nights from November 8-December 20. For a quarter century, Walt Disney World Resort guests have been mesmerized by this must-see event, a grandly festive tradition immersing families in the holiday spirit. Walt Disney World arrival day; what do we do now?

Welcome to those of you joining me from HEIDI’S HEAD and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the Final stop on our Magical Blogorail.

I used to worry a lot about arrival day. Should I buy an extra park day on the ticket? Maybe I should set up an ADR for dinner? What if the plane is late? Should I stay off site the first night? If the grandkids are with us, will we have to go to a park, even if it's only a short time?

If our resort is the first stop, we'll spend some time investigating what's there and what's new.

What, me worry? For someone who prepares a detailed spreadsheet and plans by the hour, this could present difficult choices. But over the last few years, we normally make one of two choices in our trip planning that have made the decision for us.

First, if we are able to catch a flight the night before, we'll stay off site and "arrive" first thing in the morning and go right to a Park. Since one of the best decisions we've made on Disney trips is to rent a car, this makes it much easier. So if we can, we'll make this choice first, since the off-site hotel and meals are much less expensive, it's not a budget breaker.

Since we rent a car and we love to shop, Theme Park Connection is a great place to check out, especially if you're not visiting a park that day.

Second, if we're forced to arrive on our true first day, we just assume it will be later in the day and the Park visits will have to wait. And because we have a car, so many other opportunities are presented. So first, we'll check-in to our resort and get a parking pass. If it's still light out, we'll walk around our resort and begin to absorb pixie dust.

One of our favorite seasons is Christmas, so then it's off to one or two of the resorts to admire the Christmas decorations. Very likely the Grand Floridian, but more recently the resorts around Crescent Lake. The Beach Club and Boardwalk are beautiful always, but especially during holiday season. If the evening is upon us, we'll stay around the Boardwalk to enjoy the outside entertainment, enjoy some snacks from the Boardwalk Bakery, but then again maybe just shop!

With all the hotels, restaurants, entertainment, gift shops and themed areas, the Crescent Lake area is one of the best places to spend time away from the Parks.

Shopping is a big part of our vacations... well maybe "window shopping" is more like it. But we do love to check out retail locations everywhere at the World. Even though so much product is "Disney Parks" now, it seems as though corporate finally figured out they can make money personalizing their lines for Resorts and Parks, so more and more we are able to check out specialized apparel and gifts.

Christmas (well actually early December) is our favorite time to visit Walt Disney World. And especially at the Deluxe Resorts, the decorations reveal both the holiday spirit and the magic.

So what do we do on arrival day? It depends on when we arrive. But what's most important is that no matter when we arrive, the magic begins when we step off the plane!

Just Resort Hopping alone can fill an entire day; once again the advantage of renting a car for the visit.

Huey, Dewey and Louie Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Card To Be Released at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party will return to Magic Kingdom Park on November 8, and this season Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom fans can pick up the “gift” of an event-exclusive game card during party nights.

Just in case you’re new to the game, Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom is an in-park interactive game that allows guests join Merlin’s quest to defeat Disney Villains who are planning to take over Magic Kingdom Park. Guests use maps to search for villain hideouts throughout the park, visit magic portals and use spell cards to ruin a villain’s plan. The quest begins at the Firehouse on Main Street, U.S.A., where you can pick up complimentary key cards, spell cards and maps (additional cards can be purchased at select merchandise locations).

This special event card will be distributed in addition to the regular Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom card packs. The card will be available at both the Magic Kingdom Firehouse and the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom location behind Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe. Guests must register to play with their party ticket and event wristband in order to get one.

Jungle Cruise Goes ‘Jingle Cruise’ for the Holidays at Disneyland Park & Magic Kingdom Park

DISNEY PARKS BLOG - We just got word from our friends in Walt Disney Imagineering that an Adventureland attraction will receive its first-ever holiday makeover this year. Beginning in early November, Jungle Cruise at both Disneyland park and Magic Kingdom Park will temporarily transform into “Jingle Cruise” for the holiday season!

Jungle Cruise is Going ‘Jingle Cruise’ for the Holidays at Disneyland Park & Magic Kingdom Park
In this new seasonal storyline of the attraction, the Skippers have grown homesick for the holidays, so they’ve added holiday cheer to the Jungle Cruise queue and boathouse with decorations that have been mailed to them from home (plus a few they’ve created themselves). The Skippers have also added a slew of new jokes to their tours that are the perfect way to get guests in the holiday spirit. Additionally, Jungle Cruise boats have been renamed with the holidays in mind, and if guests listen carefully, they may hear a holiday-themed radio broadcast playing in the background.

21st Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival to Bloom with Floral Color, Cook with Marketplace Flavors March 5 to May 18

Disney gardeners will paint the landscape with rainbows of blooms while Epcot chefs tempt guests with marketplace tastes during the 21st Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival March 5 – May 18, 2014, at Walt Disney World Resort.

Goofy, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck in larger-than-life topiary splendor will celebrate spring with a butterfly hunt adventure in the Epcot front entrance garden. Whimsical topiaries of Mickey Mouse and dozens of other Disney characters will surprise guests beyond the park’s iconic Spaceship Earth.

The garden party continues for 75 days. For the festival’s second year, Disney guests can taste sweets and savories from about a dozen food-and-beverage marketplaces surrounding the World Showcase Lagoon. As they sample from marketplace menus of gustatory delights, guests can wander among themed gardens and children’s play areas. Most gardens will be illuminated when the sun sets to extend the festival fun.

At the Festival Center, daily interactive gardening seminars will set the stage for outdoor do-it-yourself inspiration, and popular HGTV celebrities will headline weekend seminars filled with home, garden and design ideas.

Back by demand, the Disney-Pixar “Cars” garden and playground will bring favorite movie characters to life. Tinker Bell’s Butterfly House will be aflutter with hundreds of the winged beauties and intricate fairy topiaries including Tinker Bell, Fawn and Terrence.

The opening weekend Flower Power Concert Series at America Gardens Theatre will present fan-favorite band The Guess Who (“American Woman”) March 7-9. Other pop acts set to perform include Chubby Checker & the Wildcats, The Village People, Paul Revere & The Raiders and Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone. (Entertainment is subject to change.)

More than 100 topiaries, 220 floating mini-gardens, dozens of flower towers and sweeping beds of multi-colored blooms will add floral splendor to the park landscape. Several special weekend happenings, including the popular Art in the Garden Weekend, will be scheduled.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Ready to Roll in Spring 2014

It “crowns” New Fantasyland – the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history – and there’s nothing “sleepy” about it. When it opens in spring 2014, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, inspired by the classic Disney film “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” will take guests on a rollicking, musical ride into the mine “where a million diamonds shine” and through the rolling countryside surrounding the mine.

A stone bridge over a creek leads guests to the entrance of the attraction. Just ahead: the rustic cottage of the Dwarfs. The family-style coaster will feature a first-of-its-kind train of ride vehicles mounted in cradle-like pivots that allow the cars to swing back and forth during the ride.

The journey will be accompanied by music from the film and there’s a cast of animated figures of Snow White, the Seven Dwarfs and a collection of playful forest critters. An interactive queue will feature activities themed to mining.

Captain America Now Visiting Recruits Onboard Disney Magic

A “Marvel”-ous time is underway onboard the newly re-imagined Disney Magic, starting Oct. 20. For the first time onboard a Disney Cruise ship, Captain America will be greeting guests and young recruits, bringing Marvel’s Avengers Academy alive, and delighting kids of all ages.

The Oceaneer Club onboard the Disney Magic now plays host to Marvel’s Avengers Academy, where young crime-fighters are transported to a secret S.H.I.E.L.D. base (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) —a technologically advanced remote command post used by The Avengers for special missions and operations training.

Throughout the base, displays featuring some of the equipment that helps to make The Avengers earth’s mightiest heroes—Iron Man’s high-tech suit of armor, Captain America’s shield and Thor’s hammer—inspire super hero “recruits” through their academy missions. Plans are under way for the 2014 Disney Dreamers Academy with Steve Harvey and Essence Magazine. U.S. high school students ages 13-19 participate in this innovative outside-the-classroom educational and mentoring program. The 2014 Disney Dreamers Academy, now in its seventh year, will take place March 6 – 9, at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

Disney Dreamers Academy continues to hold true to its mission to inspire and fuel the dreams of teens, help them discover a world of possibilities and help them prepare for the future. Annually, 100 U.S. high school students, selected from thousands of applications, embark on an all-expense-paid trip to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida for an immersive four-day program that inspires and fuels their dreams.

Both onstage and behind the scenes, the Disney theme parks become vibrant ‘classrooms,’ leading to career discoveries, the pursuit of dreams and fun memories to cherish for a lifetime.

Motivational speakers and celebrities share their stories and provide insight on how to achieve success and DREAM BIG. Dreamers have the opportunity to cultivate relationships with other students from across the nation while they gain firsthand knowledge from Disney experts and world-renowned entrepreneurs and executives.
