BigBlueButton 0.8 Setup Playback/Record

The Playback and Record requires the use of some Ruby on Rails scripts located in the
/dev/source/bigbluebutton/record-playback/ directory.

The URLs that need to be changed are:

matterhorn/webapp/bigbluebutton.yml:bbb_url: 'http://192.168.1.37/bigbluebutton/api'
matterhorn/scripts/matterhorn.yml:server: 192.168.0.147
slides/scripts/slides.yml:playback_host: 192.168.0.166

Additionally, it seems that nginx need to be changed and updated:

bbb_salt: 'e49.......'

bbb_url: 'http://webmeeting.eglacomm.net/bigbluebutton/api'

bbb_version: '0.8'

I am not sure if this information is complete because it works, but does not save the videos and getting to the audios is hard. It may require post-processing of audio to be available in a better format.

vQMod for Php Files

vQmod is a php modification engine without actually modifying the actual file, it's done at runtime and facilitate patching delivery and adding new features to already existing baselines.

As an example you can see http://code.google.com/p/vqmod/wiki/Examples

You have to create an XML file with something like:
patch_login.xml

If you follow the sample, I bet you won't be dissapointed.

When installing BBB, Big Blue Button in 0.8-beta you may find problems with some dependencies, specially Freeswitch.

An error such as this may be found:

To fix this just do dpkg --remove freeswitch-sounds-music-16000 This is already included in the bbb-freeswitch package that is used by BBB to be installed on 0.8b. You may have to do this for several of the packages. Try to list all packages dpkg --list | grep freeswitch and remove all dependencies manually.

You may choose to use a sources.list file that looks like mine and just add

I just found out that my first 8,000,000 series patent was issued, as part of my work at Microsoft. UA Pat 8024487 and US Pat. 7996505. I may also have another but a continuation for the Proxy Mobile IP work since several claims were already accepted during prosecution. The good thing is that, I used my address in Honduras (Tegucigalpa, HN) and Honduran patents can be found here Honduran Issued Patents (Country HN).

Error when installing opencart 1.5.1 and using a lowercase/uppercase Database name.

in /var/www/dmx2go/upload/admin/model/tool/backup.php on line 21

This means that the call to $query =$this->db->query("SHOW TABLES FROM `" . DB_DATABASE . "`");
is returning the DB_DABATASE with uppercase/lowercase. You have two options:

Rename the database to all lowercase
or change line 21 on backup.php for

foreach ($query->rows as $result) {

if (substr($result['Tables_in_' . DB_DATABASE], 0, strlen(DB_PREFIX)) == DB_PREFIX) {

$table_data[] = $result['Tables_in_' . DB_DATABASE];

}

Remove the strtolower(,....);

And you will be fine.

Sealight Hack Restore steps

My site got hacked by software-id.ru or someone pointing there. All was root caused to the use of "Sealight" a very popular theme by WooThemes.com. The issue is pretty much unnoticealbe if you don't have a "catch-all" address in your email, as I did.

I received emails from customer, news, consumer, @mydomain.com at a rate of 100+/hr many went to the spam folder many stayed in my inbox.

Amazingly, I was able to restore it and erased it.

First check in your access_log if you see any activity using "yahoolinks.php" or sm3pg7.php

If you do, you are infected. The solution steps are quite simple:

1) Download wordpress again, http://www.wordpress.com/latest.zip

2) You need to use the command line since it seems that Malware hacked also the management WP-admin module and you cannot turn on/off plugins.

3) Copy the wp-config.php file to a safe location.

4) You may need to loose all your plugins and may need to add them again later.

cp /var/www/html/mydomain.com/wp-config.php /tmp/wp-config.php

mv /var/www/html/mydomain.com /var/www/html/mydomain.old.com

unzip latest.zip onto /var/www/html/mydomain.com/

mv wordpress to html

cp /tmp/wp-config.php html

and restored.

April 2011 Updates

I have travel again to Honduras, and visited friends, as well as participated in activities related to "Honduras Global." I presented both at UNAH (National University of Honduras) and UJCS (Universidad Jose Cecilio del Valle) on LTE/4G Wireless technologies. It was good to share with a EE and CS students there how the future will pan out in the wireless world. Interesting enough, the same week "CLARO" aka America Movil acquired the business from "Digicel" which was a newcomer wireless carrier in Honduras. The acquisition is leaving the country with three wireless carriers, TIGO, CLARO, and HONDUTEL. The interesting part is that Honduras WiMAX licence was purchased by DIGICEL and I would assume it will be part of the deal, although details are not clear on what the deal really is.

While this was taking place I recorded with a Blackberry 8700 and my Nokia N95 a few shots totally unrelated. The first set are some models I caught while at "City Mall' in San Pedro Sula. It was a Thursday afternoon in the city, a bit rainy but enjoyed it with my family.

This is a year quite interesting in many ways, as a recollection of 2010. I can summarize a few items:

I was able to go to Honduras and start a project that will bring income and create jobs in that country.
I am now in full time with Rapid Mobile Technologies, Inc
I was interviewed by Renato Alvarez, prime time, in Honduras and was the keynote speaker at the "First Tuesday" event in Honduras and El Salvador. Thanks to Honduras Global!
I continued with my involvement in multiple organizations like IEEE conferences, Journal reviews, Mobile Monday
Entrepreneur activities lead to the creation of Halberd Media, LLC with Marcel del Prado, and interacted with many other entrepreneurs like Phil Viscomi, Jeb Bush Jr, and many others.
I was invited to the "WebConf Latino 2010" in Honduras too
I also Went to Mexico, I haven't visited that country in over 15 yrs I was glad to see it again
I was able to file for a continuation patent for 7,697,508
In January 2010, we signed a licensing agreement with the University of Florida
I met a lady from Honduras, but unfortunately, it did not fructify and got a heart broken
I went to Honduras and met friends that have not see in 20 yrs.

In 2011,

Personally, I am more dedicated to balance health and work
Rapid Mobile Technologies is a priority for me, litigation and patent enforcement efforts will continue with 7231330 and 7697508

Honduras project will be high-priority to complete before Q2, 2011

Honduras Global projects will be also a priority

Phonegap is my choice

As I was reading the link provided by http://a2f.me/9am2o I have found that my comments on what framework is best can be summarized as follows:

PhoneGap is multiplatform, relies on Webview so render the page and you can then use javascript to control the device, obviously if there is a lot of back and forth or event feedbacks from the platform those need to be controlled in PhoneGAp. I modified already iPhone, Blackberry, and android's versions of phoneGap very successfully.
DroidDraw, this article includes DroidDraw but DroidDraw is just a way to create GUIs in android without you typing XML
Appcelerator. I think it's a cool GUI but again, a seasoned developer may want to see the guts of the code. There also could be long-term dependencies to their server-based approach that could hinder your future.
Google's App Inventor, it seems there is no access to the code and obviously it may not be because Java is just an intermediate step used by Google Android to generate Dalvik-Executable files. I assume then that going GUI to Java to DEX was not efficient and hence Google decided to go from GUI to DEX
WebViews: I don't understand why DroidDraw and Webviews are even here, if you want to keep writting code on top of WebView you will end up with Appcelerator Titaniul or PhoneGap.
I have not tried Rhode and AML

I have been working quite a lot on Rapid Mobile Technologies, many meetings with companies, putting together a couple of ideas, and finding out ways to monetize MobileCAD. MobileCAD is getting in shape, functionality is being added, price-point is expected to be competitive with the market as well as feature set.

In our mind, one way MobileCAD must work as follows:

Drive testing measurements are being taken
Data is loaded into MobileCAD Drive Test Database
Data is played back and emulated via our MobileCAD system
Device Under Test (DUT) or Mobile Phone is then exercised as measured by Drive testing tool.

We are working closely with several providers to achieve this shortly for GSM/GPRS/UMTS systems, extending our previous GSM/GPRS prototype substantially.

On a side node, Fading is a hard problem that needs to be addressed with care, but quite important for our emulation models hence Rapid Mobile Technologies is looking into these aspects.

As part of my membership to "Honduras Global," I was invited to be

a keynote speaker at the kickoff event of "First Tuesday Honduras."

I was also on TV, at a show called: "Frente a Frente" with Renato Alvarez, a

high-rating program that runs from 7-8:30am in TV 5 - Televicentro.

Also attended First Tuesday, Tim Delhaes from "First Tuesday America, " and
CEO of TIGABYTES, which also shared the podium with me, and a young
honduran, Luis Cruz who has a hardware-based video game console made by
himself with only 17yrs old.

First Tuesday had a few interesting sponsors such as:

Arzu Quioto, a phenomenal painter who happens to work at my old high school, since I was a senior there back in 1990, when I was barely 15 yrs old.

I had a lot of meetings with several government organizations, met new friends, colleagues, and established links to start on a few projects which I will keep posted on this blog.

Honduras Trip : San Pedro Sula

On our way to San Pedro Sula, you can find a big construction project that includes the expansion of Honduran's north pathway to a 4-lane highway, which has been already completed from Yojoa to San Pedro Sula.

As you can see Honduras geography is full of pine trees and mountains, even though construction seems ongoing, you can make it to San Pedro in 4 hrs and a half, no rush, no worries. Once the road is completed you may be able to make the trip in 3 hrs.

I mentioned two malls in my previous post, with videos from them, however Tegucigalpa has other malls including Metromall (seen from the street in one of the videos), El Dorado, Plaza Miraflores, and Casta~nos. San Pedro Sula on the other hand has CitiMall, as well as a smaller Multiplaza, and others as well.

Honduras Trip : Tegucigalpa

I just came back from Honduras on November 18th. It was a fun Trip, where I had a chance to land in San Pedro Sula, visit my sister, meet my nephew there, then go to Tegucigalpa and spend some time with my parents. I took the time to use my old N93 Nokia phone to be recharged with "Claro" and use it while I was there, while I took a couple of videos which I am posting here.

As you can see from this video, this mall has everything you can find in the US, even stores like "Zara" which is rarely found here. Addtionally, there is not one but many coffee shops, including Espresso Americano, Cafe Club, and many others, also many stores like Perri Ellis, Florsheim, Bennetton, Hush Puppies, HP, Crocs, Nautica, La Coste, Honduran stores like Jetstereo, Carrion, Lady Lee, carry everything you can find here. Well, a bit marked up, specially in Jetsstereo I found a Sony Bravia 42' LCD for about $2000, which I was able to purchase here for $1100 including a Blue Ray player, I bet it's going to be cheaper here right after Thanksgiving 2009. Also, you may find "Paiz" Supermarket, this mall is located about 5 minutes from where I was and very centric area.

How about, Las Cascadas Mall, this mall is located right behind Colonia Miramontes and Altos de Miramontes, pretty big. They seem to be building a set of movie threaters, but again, similar experience to Multiplaza, a nicer Xmas tree I think? Definitely, one very important part of Cascadas is "Hiper Paiz," a Walmar-sized supermaket, with everything you can find in a Wallmart here.

Building Chrome on Vista/Windows

I just ran out into a small problem, I have Visual Studio Express not Visual Studio. I have to go and find my old VS CDs. What a waste of time :D

Prerequisite software

Windows XP (SP2 or later) or Windows Vista.
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Standard/Pro (8.0) or later. Visual Studio Express won't work. Visual Studio 2005/2008 Pro Trial may have worked in the past, but currently will not work.

Additional (free) downloads

If you use Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, install Service Pack 1.

Install hotfix 935225 and hotfix 947315.
If you're running Vista, you will also want to install Service Pack 1 Update for Windows Vista to avoid an annoying prompt when you start VS 2005.

If you use Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, read on.
Install the Windows SDK 6.1, released in February 2008 also known as the Windows 2008 SDK.

You might need to reboot. You can save space by not installing the documentation and code samples.
Note: Although the SDK 6.1 download page may give you an impression that it's for Vista and Windows 2008 server and Visual Studio 2008, it works on XP and with Visual Studio 2005 (the compatibility table).
If you have previously installed Windows SDK 6.0 and built Chromium, you need to follow the procedure in idanan's posting to chromium-dev.

Integrate the SDK with Visual Studio:

Start > All Programs > Microsoft Windows SDK v6.1 > Visual Studio Registration > Windows SDK Configuration Tool.

If you are using Visual studio 2008, install Service Pack 1. If you do this step before step 3 (installing SDK 6.1) you might get errors at step 4 or in future upgrades. For troubleshooting this situation see this.
