Putting your ipod songs onto your itunes

2010-11-25T20:05:00.000+00:00

Although a little time consuming, you can put all your ipod songs (or someone else's ipod songs) onto your computer and into your itunes library. You could alternatively buy some software to do this but this method is free.

I'll outline how to do this in steps:

Connect the ipod with the songs you want to your computer.
Click start on your computer, go to folder options, click the "view" tab then select the show hidden files and folders option.
Go to "My computer" and click into your ipod.
Go through the following folders:

All your music is located in these 50 folders

5. Now just copy all these folders and paste them into the folder where you want all your music to be.
6. You can either add them straight into itunes now if you dont mind not sorting them out and/or if you want all the songs on the ipod. To add go to your itunes then click "file, add folder, and select all folders from the location you copied them to by holding "ctrl". All the files will have the labels and names like on your ipod. Hey presto you're done, but if you want to sort your files keep going :)
7. If you want to sort your artists out it takes a little bit of time, the fastest way is to copy the contents from each of the folders into one big folder. Then sort the order according to artist (you may have to select this column by right clicking the column bar then clicking on artist).
8. Now create a new folder for each artist and copy/paste all the songs from that artist into their folder. repeat this step for all your artists.
9. Just like step 7 add all these artist folders into your itunes.

If you have any questions just leave a comment and i will help you out :)

We're screwed...

Well as most of you have probably heard Ireland is getting a bail out. the final figure hasnt been released but its anywhere from €80 billion and up (probably over 100 billion) This is due largely to the government's decision to bail out the banks that loaned out too much to people who could never pay it back and then when the economy slowed down they lost their jobs making it even worse. So now everyone who didn't do anything wrong has to pay for the mistakes of the bankers who loaned out too much and the people who took loans they could never pay.

I have to try get a decent education and a job in this situation over the next 5 years to my life if i don't move elsewhere. What does everyone think about this situation? Are you happy that your country may be sending money to Ireland to allow it to continue running?

*edit* Eu countries are paying through the eu. the uk and sweeden are planning to give money through a different way outside of the eu, but this is controversial.

Solid Works

2010-11-19T23:19:00.000+00:00

SolidWorks is a drawing program, where you can draw 3-d objects, you make a series of smaller parts then assemble them together to make your project. Its a very good program for both work and fun.

I personally am using it for 2 school projects, in one I am making a 3-d model of an existing sat nav then modifying my parts to make the sat nav better. This program is excellent for this as it allows you to edit features of a part after making the part, so even if you make a mistake its easy to fix without starting again or deleting what you have done after the mistake.

In the second project i am making an actual device (a water tank and rainwater collector) I am making out the parts on solid work, then with the click of a button this program will make them into plan end view and elevation (as well as other views). These drawings look just like architects drawings. And from here the drawings can be sent to a lazer cutter, this will cut out your parts exactly as you have them drawn, saving you time and effort! no more filing a piece for an hour to get it right, the lazer cutter will get it exactly as you have drawn it thanks to solid works compatibility features.

I highly recommend this program for anyone who has to make 3-d models, 2-d sketches or make parts for a project (provided you have a lazer cutter) or even if you just want to make stuff for the fun of it :)

Chemistry

2010-11-18T20:29:00.000+00:00

Made some soap today in chemistry, i thought it'd be pretty boring but wow its awesome :D
For one the equipment set up looked pretty cool, (refluxing then distillation and separating) Then at the end we got to keep the soap we made, its pretty much just raw soap, no chemicals or purfumes. It removes every single speck of dirt and oil from your hands. My fingers are so grippy now.
If anyone wants to try this out themselves its not to hard,
add 30ml ethanol to 6cm^3 of sunflower oil and 3g of sodium hydroxide pellets. Place all these in a flask. put the flask in a water bath. attach a leiBig condenser to the top turn on the heat and you're ready to go. let it boil for about 30 mins. then set the apparatus up for distillation. So this time the condenser goes out to the side instead of straight up. collect all your ethanol in a flask that condenses in the condenser (congrats you now have <95% ethanol on your hands go get drunk!) Take the rest of the solution thats in the flask and add it to 100 ml sodium chloride (brine) then filter this solution through filter paper and hey presto you have soap on the paper, leave it to dry out over night.

Hardy Bucks

2010-10-13T19:34:00.000+01:00

Hardy Bucks is a tv series, it was a youtube channel show that made it to tv. It's based in Ireland and made by local people. It was a huge hit with everyone and won StoryLand which was RTÉ's drama competition. Winning this gained them funding to make more episodes and make a tv series, which started last night. The 1st series which is all on youtube consists of 9 episodes and theres also a bonus Christmas special. You can check them out on their channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/hardybucks

Hardy bucks is a comedy drama which follows the lives of Eddie and Buzz who live in the fictitious town of Castletown. The pair get into all sorts of trouble and mayhem as they attempt to earn a living in the recession, which leads to hilarious outcomes. Buzz and Eddie have a rival in the town called "The Viper" and his crew. It is one of the funniest shows around for sure. A lot of the comedy is based around irish stereotypes, not so much the conventional everyone is drunk and ginger, but more to do with slang and daily activities (which does include getting drunk a lot). People not from Ireland mightn't get this comedy but for those that do they will be laughing through every episode.

So if you want to see these lads, "drinking, schmokin and fightin" and "rollin' up 12 spots" check out their channel I highly recommend it!

A little help??

2010-10-12T21:46:00.000+01:00

Just got my technology project and i am stumped as to what to do for it...
Here's the brief:

''The right to safe and clean drinking water... is a human right that is essential for the full enjoyment of the right to life'' (United Nations,July 2010)
Less than one percent of the world's water is available for human consumption, with the remainder being contained in oceans, glaciers and ice sheets. Population growth, industrial, agricultural and private demands, changes in climate patterns and increasing pollution are some factors that contribute to sincreased pressure on this vital resource.

There are growing concerns around the sustainable, efficient and socially responsible supply, quality monitoring, conservation and use of water.
With a focus on devices and technologies which can help address these concerns, design and name a model which addresses an area of water supply, quality, conservation or use that you have identified.
The model should incorporate electronic and/or mechanical systems and should also be well presented

Note:
The finished artefact need not require the use of water
The maximum dimension of the artefact you present for assessment should not exceed 500 mm

Any ideas? anything will help :)

Thanks

So my question is "is anyone a lawyer here? or do you know a lawyer? If so please help me decide, leave some pros/cons in the comment field :)

Car insurance...

2010-09-30T20:48:00.000+01:00

This is a follow up on a previous post of mine about driving tests.
Lets say you manage to get your licence, there's still a massive obstacle in your way before being able to drive. Car ( auto) insurance costs so much these days, especially for younger drivers (and males have it worse again). How are people expected to get good at driving if they can't practice it because they cant afford the massive cost to drive a car when they get their licence, yes you should be able to drove perfectly after your test but as we all know this is not true.
Even if you are driving a small 1 litre engine car, and are on your parents insurance it will still cost 3000 minimum!

At this rate between the new tests and the auto insurance (and taxes too) i dont see how people can afford to start driving until they have a full time job after college.

I'd like to know is auto insurance in other countries as dear?
like America, Australia Germany etc.
and also does it differ much between each state?

Points Going up!!

2010-09-29T18:59:00.000+01:00

The results are out from the leaving certificate and many people are very disappointed with it, not because they didn't get the points they aimed for but because the points required shot up as much as 80 points for some courses. This left a lot of people (who had allowed for the points to go up a little and so got 30-40 points more then they thought they needed) short on what they needed for their first choice of course, some didn't even get any of their choices leaving them stranded without a college to go to.
On average the points required by courses went up by 25% which is a lot, if the course you wanted to do needed 400 points it now needs 500. Which out of a max score of 600 points is a lot and requires about 15 points extra on each subject's result thats a grade higher on each exam!!
Points are expected to go up as much as 20% for this years leaving certificate, which means a lot more study for students.
