Buildings that need rebuilding

noreply@blogger.com (GameSpot) — Mon, 31 Jan 2011 05:43:00 +0000

Here's a complete list of all the buildings and facilities found in your town in Rebuild. Take note of which ones need to be captured earlier in the game depending on the layout of your town. Enjoy!

8-12 mart
The 8-12 doesn't do anything these days but smell like stale twinkies. - Does nothing - Can be replaced with: Farm

Allmart Store
This Allmart would make a good defense post if we spruced it up a bit. Board up all the exits, cover the windows, and it'd be quite the fortress. - Can be upgraded into: Secured Allmart (static defence bonus)

Apartment
This apartment provides houses for our survivors to live in. - Adds number of houses depending on difficulty level - Can be replaced with: School

Bar
These days some people turn to religion and others to drinking, but either way it makes them happier. - Increases happiness same as church - Can be replaced with: Laboratory

Big Farm
Big farms produce food every day of boring but efficient crops like turnips, potatoes, and squash. - Produces twice the food of farms

Church
These days some people turn to religion and others to drinking, but either way it makes them happier. - Increases happiness same as bar - Can be replaced with: Hospital

Farm
Farms produce food every day. We take turns plowing, planting and harvesting. - Produces food depending on difficulty level - Can be replaced with: Suburbs

Graveyard
We don't like to go near this place. It's good for nothing, not even for burying our dead. Best just to leave it alone. - Does Nothing

Hospital
This hospital can save people from disease and death. We don't need a dedicated doctor just having the space and supplies here is enough. - Prevents bad illness-related events - Can be replaced with: Church

Laboratory
Our Scientists need labs like this one to research and build useful things. - Perform tech reserach missions here - Can be replaced with: Bar

Mall
People just don't shop like they used to, so we don't have much use for a mall here, but it might make a good defense post. - Can be upgraded into: Secured Mall (static defence bonus)

McNoodles
A sad reminder that the days of fast food are long gone. - Does nothing - Can be replaced with: Church or Hospital

Motel
Not good for much, but with a little work we could turn this motel into apartments for people to live in. - Does Nothing - Can be replaced with: Apartment or School

Office
No more computers, no more paperwork, no more burocracy. Offices are relics of a bygone era. - Does Nothing - Can be replaced with: Apartment or School

Park
In just a year the parks have gotten pretty overgrown, so I guess the dirt is fertile enough to try building a farm. - Does Nothing - Can be replaced with: Farm or Suburbs

Parking Lot
A conviently flat piece of urban real estate. Maybe we could convert this place to a farm. - Does Nothing - Can be replaced with: Farm

Police Station
Police stations add a defense bonus to the fort, and are where soldiers do guard duty. - Static defence bonus - Assign guards here

Rubble
Just some building destroyed by zombies or the ensuing panic. Since it's mostly cleared already we might try to farm here. - Does Nothing - Can be replaced with: Farm

School
People can train here to change their specialization. It takes all kinds of people to keep this fort going. - Change survivor jobs here - Can be replaced with: Church

Suburb
Ah, suburbia, where your biggest worry was the quality of your lawn. Nice homes for some of our survivors to live in. - Adds number of houses depending on difficulty level - Can be replaced with: Farm

Trailer Park
It's not pretty, but it's home. Some people can live here. - Adds number of houses depending on difficulty level - Can be replaced with: Farm

Warehouse
Just useless empty storage space. - Does Nothing - Can be replaced with: Church or Hospital

Xxor gas
We've used up all the gas here so it isn't useful anymore, but we could turn it into a decent lab. - Does nothing - Can be replaced with: Bar or Laboratory

Tips in Playing the Harder Difficulty

noreply@blogger.com (GameSpot) — Sat, 29 Jan 2011 10:39:00 +0000

For those of you having a tough time playing with the harder difficulty setting, here are some tip. Feel free to share some tips if you have. Enjoy!

a) scout early and fast

b) keep a low number of survivors so you dont need to feed so many. Keep your number of squares low and limited to what you need

c) aggressively clean out the areas

d) take risks. lots of em. a single man 35% danger rate means 1/3 hes gonna die. it also means 2/3 he succeeds. its a pretty good chance he will die. but as leader its for the greater good :P if he manages to clear the square everyone will be better off. but if he fails, you have one less survivor thats all.

e) early game be careful with your leaders. late game.. all you need are soldiers.

f) research - recommend the food and zombie ones early on. the food ones increase the limit 50 per as well as removes the bad events related to the research (food going bad, crops fail), zombie killing ones make your SOLDIERS more effective at killing zombies (with the last few you can have 0 risk with 5 soldiers typically) but early game its well worth it to send in soldiers solo into areas that are up to 25% risk. (i send the rest of the civvies in up to 35%)

once you get electricity you get a little more happiness (and random events about lack of it disappear)

once you get radio randomly every x turns survivors will come.

g) happiness: keep people happy as long as you can. surprisingly, if you run out of food they will be unhappy. random event people usually lone gunmen will come by your place and if its too unhappy they wont join and well... its kinda important to have free extra soldiers.

h) keep your people BUSY. First thing you should do especially on higher difficulties is REMOVE your defenders because they are active units eating your food and until there are zombie hordes at your door you shouldn't need them.(refer to d)early on its about capturing as much useful land as you can hold, scouting and emptying out the area of survivors to use in these risky missions.

i) change your play style as you advance. especially with the zombie killing technologies, your soldiers are very very useful. early on you use them to clean out areas that have high risk solo, but as you run lower on survivors to recruit, send them out in larger groups (and hopefully you will have the techs to make it less risky). by maintaining a good sized soldier force, you can consistently clean out x tiles surrounding your fort which is really all you need to win.

j) find your win condition! your best chances are finding city hall, training how ever many leaders you need to draft the constitution to grab your win condition. empty out the graveyard/city hall FAST by sending in groups as large as you can afford (as in if you have 25 soldiers, you can reserve say 10 for cleaning squares around your fort, then send the 15 left to clean out the city hall as they will kill ALOT more zombies reducing the number of sends you will need) for the victory location conditions clean them out hard and fast (its better to spend 1 kill mission with 15 than to send 3 kill missions with 5. )

Talk Back

noreply@blogger.com (GameSpot) — Fri, 21 Jan 2011 15:51:00 +0000

With over 35,000 number of plays in just about four days, Rebuild is no doubt building a massive following across continents. Here's what some of them have to say:

Bluerobin427:
Really fun. Dunno about the replay value, but I mean, cmon it's a flash game. And a really well done one at that.

Tilla: Great concept, someone should elaborate on it sometime. And yah, beat it my first time through but it's interesting anyway.

Julius Clonkus: I would have found all four endings if the evil graveyard wasn't the last tile to be conquered... Anyway, this game is pretty cool.

Megaman: It is quite good, playing it on hardest mode. Edit: And damn, is it hard. follow this thread HERE

Rebuild, Rebuild!

noreply@blogger.com (GameSpot) — Thu, 20 Jan 2011 16:48:00 +0000

Hordes of undead throng the streets, spawning at an exponential level out from a mysterious pit at the evil graveyard. You must now find remaining survivors, recruit them to your force and keep them alive and their morale high as your doomed city face an imminent attack of the zombie army by nightfall.
Scavenge for food, reclaim farms, recruit volunteers from among the survivors and get them all geared up to defend your fort against a horde of the undead. Deploy those soldiers and rid the buildings of their zombie occupants. Sounds fun? Well then use up that idle time and prepare to send zombies back to their graves and start playing Rebuild.
Rebuild is one turn based strategy flashgame worthy of my two thumbs up!

Rebuild is a must-play flash game

noreply@blogger.com (GameSpot) — Thu, 20 Jan 2011 05:00:00 +0000

If you're looking for a very good flash game to use that idle time with, then I would highly recommend Rebuild--an awesome new turn-based strategy game.

Unlike the hundreds of other games with zombie enemies, Rebuild puts a very clever twist into their plot. Don't expect to tot some guns and blow the heads of the brain-eating vermins, instead, you will be exercising your mind at planning, and planning carefully.

The game is set in a randomly generated town that has been infested by zombies. You and few other survivors have built a fort as a refuge, but if you were to survive for long in this set-up, you would have to reclaim the city block after block, ridding it of zombies and recruiting any other survivors you find inside buildings and other infrastructures along the way.

In these dire times, you can send your men on a mission to scavenge for food, just make sure he is accompanied by a soldier lest he would be devoured by the undead. You must also deploy a squad of your soldiers and clear the building of zombies and later on have it repaired and reclaimed by workers. Reclaim a laboratory building and make your scientists do some research...it's not too late to develop new technologies against the hordes of zombies, after all. And watch out for the morale of your men--if your fort is too cramped up with many hungry people, you would have to reclaim apartments to house them and farms to keep a steady supply of turnips and corn cobs. If you don't do so, your men will turn up dead from hunger or simply refuse to work. From time to time, random characters will knock at your door and volunteer to be part of your force so be sure to have vacant rooms for them to stay at.

Also, make sure to garrison the police stations and other vital installations to put up a stronghold.

If you think you can just send out as many scouts as you want to explore the streets in the hope of finding food and recruits, well you better plan it out carefully and make sure you have enough force to defend your fort as armies of zombies attack at nightfall.

Overall, it took me 5 straight hours to reclaim the entire city on a normal difficulty level, and many soldiers and civilians were martyred during that entire period. But there is nothing sweeter than sending the zombies back to their graves.
