The area in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores are continuing to improve by the day since the oil spill. All of the state waters are now open and the federal government is opening more and more waters by the week for us to fish. We have been running a lot of short trips lately that fit the bill for the open waters and the fishing has been good. We will run our first 3 day fishing trip next week since June and I for one am ready to get back offshore. It is apparent by Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council that there is going to be a fall Red Snapper season for our area. At this time, it is looking like it will be a weekend fishery with Friday, Saturday and Sunday being the only three days that you can land the fish on. I personally think that this is a wonderful idea and will surely help the local economy. A full day trips is ideal to catch a good mess of fish and have some fun as most of the common fishing area have not been fished on in months.

For all of my overnight guys, I am not sure that the waters surrounding all of the normally fished oil rigs will be reopened this year or not but with the Grouper going on the chopping block for next year in an attempt to reduce harvest. So, if you want to catch any Gag or Red Groupers then you had better get down here this fall. We are open and fishing; please come on down and let’s go!

Orange Beach, Al.- Thanks to Commissioner Barnett Lawley the pass at Orange Beach will re-open for recreational traffic in the morning which will let us go fishing again. Everything is catch and release only but make for some great 4 hour charter fishing trips with the families and the kids. Come on Down lets go guys!!

Gulf Shores, Al - We are charter fishing a good bit right now along the Alabama Gulf Coast and we fishing is great! The weather has been absolutely slick calm and on the offshore deep sea charters we have been catching some pretty good wahoo. Everyone is getting all jazzed up over snapper season and we are looking forward to it as well. Red Snapper opens on June 1 and it is going to be a really exciting season

The work offshore with the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is moving on pretty good. Below is an image showing some of the work being done

Gulf Shores, Alabama - We have not had any impacts along the Alabama Gulf Coast from Dauphin Island to Orange Beach from the oil spill from the Deep-water Horizon . There is a few tar balls washing up over at Dauphin Island but they has always been. Ever since I was a kid, I can remember the golf ball sized tar balls washing up on the beach and having to clean my feet with baby oil to get it off. It is amazing how the media reporters come down the dock by the droves and just want to hear the bad news. Well don't stop here, is all the advice that I have for the media cronies looking for the worst case scenario ! We are fishing almost daily and are having great success! The beaches are fine the restaurants and condo are open with good rates and we are hear ready to take you deep sea fishing! We have smaller boats for people or less, bigger boats for those who have a big group or just want a bigger boat and the sail boat is always a sure bet for a good time!

What do I need to bring on a Intimidator fishing trip?

You may want to bring plenty of food, drinks, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, camera, film, and motion sickness medication. However, motion sickness medicine works best when taken the night before for those who may have a woozy stomach. If you contact your doctor ask for the "patch" it seems to have helped a lot of people. There is no known cure for the "flora-bama" flu!

What is included in the price of the boat?

All of the bait, tackle, rods, reels, licenses, and ice for the fish are included.

When do we need to arrive to catch the boat?

In most cases, fifteen minutes before the scheduled departure time is usually sufficient.

How is the Mate paid?

Please remember that the mate works for tips and fish cleaning money. A really good mate can make all the difference in the trip. Some of his duties will include rigging the tackle daily, catching live bait, cutting bait, teaching first timers how to fish and helping the old salt out with any new tricks or tactics that may be beneficial to make for a more successful outing. They will usually arrive about one hour ahead of our scheduled departure time and may not leave until several hours after you leave. We kindly suggest 15-20% of the total fare paid, plus fish cleaning is $.30 per pound.

What if there are two mates?

Normally on our day trips or our extended trips and overnighter's there will be two mates. They will split the tip and fish cleaning. Just remember that the mates are the ones who are down in the middle of the action with you. For me to keep good mates, I need to try to help make sure that they make a fair daily wage. Once again, we kindly suggest 15-20% gratuity plus the fish-cleaning fee of $.30 per pound.

How far offshore will we go during a trip?

Depending on the length of your trip, we may venture anywhere from 10 to 20 miles on a half day trip, 75 to 80 miles offshore on a two day and up to 100 miles on a three day offshore adventure.

How deep is the water?

The water where we fish on a bottom trip is anywhere from 50-150 feet deep. On an offshore trip the water may reach depths in excess of 6,000 feet.

When is the best time of year to go fishing?

There is no better time of the year to fish than in the spring or the fall. Unfortunately, it is not the best time of year for family vacations. During the summer, the water will warm up to over 80° and we will have to get in a little deeper water, but this is not a problem. The summer time is usually the calmest time of year and with three 24,000 Btu's air conditioners, it will be nice and cool inside the cabin! In the winter are some of the very best that we have to offer. The crowds start to thin out and the fish really go to biting! Remember some waterproof boots (soft sole) and sweat pants seem to work well.

What kind of tackle will we use?

We strive to use only the highest quality dependable rods and reels available. We have a full array of tackle ranging from 30# spinning reels to Penn International 80 wides. For most of the bottom trips, we use the conventional Penn 4/0 and 6/0. We have over 45 combinations that we will select from.

Can I bring my own personal tackle?

Sure, as long as its suited for the type of fish that we are fishing for. However, we cannot be held responsible for broken rods, reels or hearts!

Don't forget the Grill!

If you would like, you are welcome to bring some food to put on the Big Green Egg grill. This has always proven to be a great idea when entertaining customers or hanging out with the guys because no one likes a cold bologna sandwich. The Green Egg is a large grill that is permanently attached to the boat. We will supply the utensils and charcoal, just bring enough for us!

Spring time fishing is highlighted by Cobia, King and Spanish Mackerel, Amberjack, Triggerfish, and a variety of Snappers. Gulf Shores, Al. - The Cobia fishing is wide open right now and has been some what consistent this year in Orange Beach. The Amberjack fishing has been really good with some big fish caught last week, We have been offshore and done really good with the Black-fins, but word from a real reliable source is that the big Yellow-fins are here in full force. We will start a pretty good run of deep-sea fishing charters next week and will be offshore big game fishing a good bit too. The main part of our trips will be 6 hour charters for Cobia and 6 hour bottom-fishing trips as well. We still have openings for the 2010 fishing season, so call us today!

Orange Beach, Al. - The Cobia fishing is just getting better and better on the Intimidator. We were 3-5 on Cobia today on a 6 hour charter fishing trip. We left at 10 am and fished to the East over to Pensacola and then back down the beach to Gulf Shores but, the best action was right off Orange Beach Pass. The season has been off to a slow start this year with all of the cold weather this winter but the fish seem to be ganged up and hungry. The fishing has been good down towards Gulf Shores and off the Flora-bama sand bar when we have the opportunity to get out charter fishing and we are looking forward to showing you what Cobia fishing is all about. We had a great overnight trip on the Intimidator on Thursday and Friday. We had visions of big Tuna fish and lot of them but it just wasnt meant to be. The water was dirty and there was no bait offshore anywhere that we went. So we headed back inshore to do some Deep dropping just south of Gulf Shores. The fishing school was rather in depth to teach the charter what to expect when fishing for deep water Grouper. We also chased the Amberjacks and the King Mackerel were on fire! It was a great trip that was classic example of the diversity of the charter fishing off Orange Beach, Alabama.

The 2010 Cobia season is now underway and off to a good start. There was a nice Cobia caught today of Orange Beach, down by the Florida / Alabama state line. It was nice fish about 55 pounds as most of the first fishing leading the pack typically are. We are geting ready for our first Cobia trip on next Monday. 6 hour fishing charter March 19th

On this 6 hour, we had Brad and his son along with a friend from Huntsville on the boat for a deep sea fishing trip while in town for spring break. We left Orange Beach Marina at 7 am and headed offshore south of Gulf Shores to do some bottom fishing. The weather was slick calm, the sun was out and the fish were biting. We caught and released some Red Snapper while targeting Triggerfish, Vermillion Snapper ( which is locally called Bee-liner's or Mingo's) and White Snapper. It was a great day to say the least, and to see a father and a college age son spend such quality time together made it even better. We did have a nice pile of big Triggers!

Amberjack closed on October 27, 2009 and re-opened on Janurary 1, 2010. This coming season the closure will come in the late summer. Most likely July 21,2010. The Red Fishing trolling trips in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores continue to produce some really good results! We have been doing really well with the 4 hour trolling trips in this cold weather. However, it seems the colder the weather the better the bite!

The near-shore trolling was really good today. After a slow day yesterday, we had a great time today with the the Redfish. The wind was blowing really hard out of the Northwest but the fishing between Gulf Shores and Orange Beach was great. The fish down by the Flora-Bama were a little more picky but a great time was had by all !
