MIS is a combination of Hardware, Software, Infrastructure and Trained personnel organized to facilitate Planning,Control,Coordination and Decision Making in an organization.

The terms management information system (MIS), information system, enterprise resource planning (ERP), and information technology management (IT) are often confused. Information systems and MIS are broader categories that include ERP. Information technology management concerns the operation and company of information technology resources independent of their purpose.

Management information systems, produce fixed, regularly scheduled reports based on data extracted and summarized from the firm’s underlying transaction processing systems^[4] to middle and operational level managers to identify and inform semi-structured decision problems.
Decision support systems (DSS) are computer program applications used by middle and higher management to compile information from a wide range of sources to support problem solving and decision making. A DSS is used mostly for semi-structured and unstructured decision problems.
Executive information systems (EIS) is a reporting tool that provides quick access to summarized reports coming from all company levels and departments such as accounting, human resources and operations.
Marketing Information Systems are Management Information Systems designed specifically for managing the marketing aspects of the business
Accounting information systems are focused accounting functions.
Human resource management systems are used for personnel aspects.
Office automation systems (OAS) support communication and productivity in the enterprise by automating workflow and eliminating bottlenecks. OAS may be implemented at any and all levels of management.
School Information Management Systems (SIMS) cover school administration, and often including teaching and learning materials.
Enterprise resource planning facilitates the flow of information between all business functions inside the boundaries of the organization and manage the connections to outside stakeholders.

We all know what a car alarm is – basically, some sensors connected to a siren. A very simple alarm would have a switch on the driver’s door and it would be wired so that if someone opened that door, the siren would activate. But these days, modern cars have a more sophisticated system and it keeps evolving. Some people that aren’t satisfied with the alarm that comes with the car, can opt for an upgrade from a specialized firm.

Modern alarms – how do they work

Usually, car alarm systems include:

A number of sensors (switches, pressure sensors and motion detectors);
A siren, able to create a wide range of sounds so that you can pick a distinct sound for your car;
A radio receiver to allow wireless control from a key fob;
An auxiliar battery that allows the alarm to operate even if the main battery gets disconnected;
A computer control unit that monitors everything and sounds the alarm – you could call this the core of the system.

The core in most advanced systems is a small computer that controls the alarm devices, like the horn, headlights, the siren. For the most part, security systems differ in which sensors are used and how the devices are wired to the core.

The core could be wired to the car’s main battery, but it usually has that backup power source we mentioned earlier. The auxiliary battery activates when someone cuts off the main power source.

What to look for in a car alarm system

There are many types of alarm systems and it all depends on how much you want to invest in one. If you want to change the system you have, keep in mind some facts when going shopping:

Get a system that will warn intruders that you have an alarm installed. You could have a warning sticker on your car or flashing lights which indicate that the car has a security system;
A sensitive alerting system that turns on as soon as a window or door is opened, or when the hood of the car is raised. This will slow down the intruder and it will attract attention;
It should have an immobilizing mechanism which locks the hood and shuts down the engine and the fuel pump of the car right after the alarm starts. This is not so easy to locate, as this feature is hidden in the car;
It would be best to have a tracking system, as this will find your car. Some systems are activated as soon as the door is forced and the car is stolen. It will either send an e-mail or call you to inform you of the whereabouts of your car;
There is that feature that sometimes gets on your nerves when you pass by a car and the alarm goes off. Choose a system that allows you to adjust the sensitivity of the proximity alarm.

GSM–based anti–theft system

Lately, more and more countries have given serious attention to improving car alarm systems. The latest technology is based on GSM security and navigation system, which is basically a system that allows the owner of the car to not only track the stolen car, but also give commands to the alarm system and it can be accessed from anywhere across the globe through a Web Interface System. You can lock and unlock the car through an SMS from your mobile phone and check the status of the system. It may also have a precautionary system in place in case of a GPRS network failure or other technical issues.

Sound bars can be positioned under the TV, on a shelf, mounted on the wall or even attached directly to the TV if you buy a special mounting bracket. The audio quality of sound bars varies enormously, as does the price. Technology And Human Impatience - Excuse, Or Reality?

You might be familiar with the image of a man about to destroy his computer with a hammer. And it's true that our impatience with technology stretches back beyond computers to faulty tube television sets and their non-working remote controls. Today's world is faster than ever, thanks to technology. But does this mean that we are more impatient than ever as a result?

Maybe you've always hated waiting for online videos to load. Or, it could be that your personality is fragmenting. Wait, what? Many theories and studies like this are being offered with the goal of shedding some light on how technology is affecting us and possibly even altering us on a psychological level.

External Vs. Internal

One school of thought points to the nature of technology and impatience. And that school of thought, or rather patience, is located in New York and called the Community Meditation Center. One of its teachers, Allan Lokos, seems to be of the opinion that while technology, an external element has given us more potential for impatience, which is an internal element, that we shouldn't blame technology if we become frustrated.

Lokos's take is that impatience has always been an emotion that humans have experienced, and that if technology is making us impatient, it's because we're allowing it to. Remembering that technology is a valuable tool that can enhance our lives, as opposed to allowing it to become our lives, is an important component of overcoming any impatience we experience when we use it, he says.

Psychologically Speaking

The psychological side of this debate is equally interesting. Many scientists believe that technology does, in fact, cause us to be more impatient. In fact, to this camp, it appears that life is imitating technology. Think of that group of friends in your local café sitting at the same table, but with their faces buried in their devices.

It's true that 'faster' is the word of today's world, with instant and fingertip access available for everything we want, from music to video to chat. And for those whose technology has become an integral part of their lives, any interruption to the flow can cause anxiety and impatience. And this, some psychologists say, is not healthy at all.

The Causal Culprit

Another possible source of evidence may be found with research into online video streaming, the results of which were intriguing. A University of Massachusetts study was able to prove that the quality of a video stream does have a measurable effect on the patience of the viewer. The comprehensive experiment revealed that even in the first few seconds of start up, that if a video hasn't loaded, the viewer will begin the abandoning process. Those who watched a frequently-freezing video will watch less of that video.

And the results of this study went beyond impatience. Video viewers who had to deal with slow or intermittent video not only abandoned it sooner, but were far less likely to return to where the undesirable experience was had.

Double-Edged Sword

What's interesting about the technology vs. patience conundrum is that once technology has become a part of daily life, quitting cold turkey can have just as many effects on our ability to connect with society and think logically as immersing ourselves in technology can, a phenomenon more associated with addiction than technology in the past.

Indeed, many other studies have pointed to how people use technology; not only has it become a terrific tool for business, but it can also be there in times of emotional need or when some kind of escape is sought, which is most certainly a reason why it can be so difficult to cut back on usage.

Where Does Your IPhone Come From - A Look At IPhone Manufacturing

Apple's iPhones are "Designed in California and assembled in China" according to the product packaging but the real story of where your iPhone comes from is much more complex. Designers, engineers, skilled and unskilled factory workers from all over the world contribute to the final product.

Each iPhone has hundreds of separate components. Most of the suppliers that Apple buys components from have headquarters in the United States or Europe, with manufacturing facilities in Asia. Even some of the Asian manufacturing facilities turn around and outsource the manufacturing of the part to a third country where labor is less expensive, such as Malaysia or the Philippines. Major suppliers of iPhone components include Sony, Sharp, Win Semiconductors, TDK, Toshiba, Corning and Texas Instruments.

Apple insists workers at parts plants work no more than 60 hours per week. The company audits suppliers and visits factories in China and other countries when warranted to investigate claims of worker abuse.

Assembly

Like many other high-tech products, iPhone's are assembled by hand. Approximately 325 workers contribute to the assembly of every iPhone, with each step taking an average of seven seconds to complete. It takes 24 hours to make an iPhone from start to finish. Apple's iPhones are primarily assembled in Shenzhen, China by Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., a Taiwanese company. The Hon Hai Group, more commonly known as Foxconn, also manufacturers iPods, Blackberry smartphones phones, Kindles, and PlayStations.

Foxconn's

Foxconn's iPhone assembly facility is huge, with 95 production lines churning out the latest phones quickly and efficiently. About one-fourth of Foxconn's workers choose to live at the campus-like facility, where clean, safe housing and subsidized meals are offered. Workers are treated well compared their peers at other Chinese manufacturing plants; the work is repetitive but so is assembly line work at U.S. based factories. Working at Foxconn, assembling iPhones is considered a very good job in Shenzhen. This rare footage of Foxconn’s Zhengzhou iPhone assembly plant (http://youtu.be/1fVw7OpgFow) shows a modern facility where workers enjoy good working conditions.

Shenzhen

Shenzhen, located just north of Hong Kong, is a major manufacturing center, home to a large number of Chinese and foreign high-tech companies. Over ten million people live in Shenzhen, which is why Foxconn utilizes the manufacturing powerhouse. In Shenzhen, hundreds of thousands of workers are available to work day and night to keep up with the demand for Apple products. If iPhones were built in New York City, three percent of all New York City residents would have to work assembling iPhones to match Shenzhen's ability to turn out finished iPhones quickly.

While Foxconn is Apple's main phone assembler, Pegatron is building a new facility in Kunshan, China to take over half of the assembly work for Apple's not-yet-released iPhone 6.

It's easy to see why Apple fans stand in line for hours or stay up late to order online just so they can be one of the first people to own the latest iPhone. Now that you know all that Apple does to bring an iPhone to the market, from designing the phone, selecting and auditing suppliers, overseeing the assembly and bringing the finished product to the U.S. for retail sale; iPhones seem like quite a bargain too.

Tomorrow's Wounds: How Will New Armor Change The Nature Of Battlefield Injury?

Traumatic brain injury has been described as the signature injury of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflict partly because our understanding of this injury causes us to approach it differently, but also partly because this injury represents a higher proportion of battlefield injuries in these conflicts than in previous conflicts. This is due, in large part, to the changing nature of battlefield armor and medicine.

Armor in our asymmetrical warfare with forces in Iraq and Afghanistan means that our enemies have resorted to relatively low-lethality and poorly targeted improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which create potentially deadly blasts, but only under certain circumstances, with a wide zone of concussive force that can lead to brain trauma and other concussive injuries. As armor continues to evolve, what will be the signature injuries of future wars?

Armor Prototypes: What Will the Future Soldier Be Wearing?

There are many potential developments in armor that may signal the direction armor is going. One potential development is the HULC suit, a wearable exoskeleton that moves with a soldier, giving him the same maneuverability and responsiveness he had without the armor, but a good deal more in terms of weight carrying capacity. This suit is actually remarkably similar to the armor worn in the upcoming Tom Cruise film Edge of Tomorrow, although it doesn't have the weapon attachments.

Another possibility under development is the use of liquid battle armor, which can be transformed from liquid to solid by the application of an electric current, creating a sheathing armor that would completely protect a soldier from ballistic gunfire. Combining the two technologies along with basic life support functions means that soldiers would be ostensibly protected from every type of battlefield attack.

How Battlefield Injury Will Change--And Stay the Same

Because of these changes in armor, it's likely that we will see many types of battlefield injury virtually go away. For example, gunshot wounds could potentially be eliminated. On the other hand, some types of injury are likely to increase.

Dislocated limbs and broken bones due to malfunctions or damage to the suit will become more common. It's also likely that the increased amount of local electrical equipment will lead to an increased risk of electric shock or burns.

What remains to be seen is whether the new battlefield armor will stop sonic injuries like tinnitus, which are the most common injury not just of veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan, but of every war for which there are currently surviving veterans, with the exception of Vietnam, where post-traumatic stress disorder was the most common.

Will There Be Soldiers on the Field?

However, another important question to ask is whether the US will soon cease putting soldiers on the battlefield to replace them with drones or robots. Although aerial drones are very limited in their tactical applications and cannot be counted on to perform all major combat roles, automated tanks would replace armored vehicles. The recently developed Atlas robot shows that walking robot soldiers are feasible. Overall, some project that robots could outnumber soldiers on the battlefield by 10 to 1 in the next decade.

When this occurs, we may wonder whether any injuries will remain, with even traumatic stress eliminated by the distance of digital interaction.

Smartphones were the hot topic for a while. Now, basically everyone has one, and they're suddenly not so interesting. Heatex is the kind of fabric you've always dreamed of – one that can be heated, meaning that it can keep you warm, but in the same time it looks and feel the same as normal fabric and doesn't make you look like you're a mad scientists who's escaped from a mental institution (like some modern sweaters do). The clothes will look and feel normal. The only difference will be the added battery which will weight basically nothing. Since the material is water and wind-proof, it can be used as an outside attire just as comfortably as inside. The Heatex apparel can be washed just like normal clothes. The battery will give you about 7 hours of warmth, which I think is not enough, but not bad for a prototype. I'm excited to see this in action. Are you?

The 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is right around the corner and rumors have reached a fever pitch. It appears that this year there are going to be four hot categories to watch: home automation, smart phones, televisions, and health care. What makes this year so different from the past is the inclusions of new types of vendors who have never shown before. The introduction of new players to the field promises to make this a year to remember.

We all know that smartphones are an industry that is larger than most of us are able to comprehend. Obviously, the competition in this field is fierce and it looks like at CES 2014, Samsung may emerge in the lead of the pack. If the (many, many) rumors about their Galaxy S5 are true, the folks at Apple may be scrambling to up their game on the iPhone 6. If these rumors are to believed the Samsung S5 could be made of a special carbon fiber-diamond like exterior, have a 64-bit A7 processor, 4 GB of RAM, a screen with a resolution of 2560 X 1440, and a 16 MP camera. Of course, there is a chance they won’t even unveil the phone at CES and opt for a massive launch instead since almost nothing is confirmed by them.

Last year saw ADT become the leader of the home automation pack with their Pulse system that allows users to remotely control almost every aspect of their home. Their partnerships with various other technology companies allows users to control their door locks, lights, temperature, security cameras, and alarms. This year, it looks like home improvement rivals Lowe’s and Home Depot will be not only trying to compete with ADT, but also each other in the home security department. Lowe’s already has the Iris home security system, so they aren’t new to the game like Home Depot is. It’s looking like quite a showdown might occur.

One of the other perennial attractions at CES are the televisions. Each year they seem to get bigger with clearer pictures. This year there will be a new element added to the mix; flexibility. After the introduction to OLED TV technology at last years CES, this year we will likely see others try to do their own thing with the flexible screen technology. It’s rumored that both LG and Samsung are going to unveil their bendable televisions this year. Another new technology that’s getting buzz is the 4K Ultra HD TV which gives an unparalleled high definition picture (with an unparalleled price tag, of course). The hopes are that someone will be able to create a much more affordable 4K TV this year.

Health care technology is also one of the most buzzed-about sections of the CES this year. 2014 marks the first year that health care technology has had its own section and it promises to be very interesting. With the current trends in health technology I’m expecting to see great advances in how we are able to track our exercise and cheaper calories burned monitors. Also, given the increase in the number of citizens reaching retirement age, I expect to see a number of technologies that will enable users to administer health tests easily at home to keep better control over their well being.

All in all it’s shaping up to be an incredible year at the Consumer Electronics Show. With more and more industries being included in it, the appeal is reaching across markets and demographics. What was once just relegated as an event for geeks is now getting major coverage across all media outlets and is enabling the growth of technology to only increase as time goes on.

It creates different versions of the same website so that it can be viewed on a variety of compatible devices including laptops, cell-phones and tablets.

The idea is that users should have the same browsing experience regardless of the device they are using. Responsive web design uses a combination of ideas and techniques to create and ensure this compatibility. Creating fluid grids

One of the first aspects of responsive web design is creating and using fluid grids. A fluid grid is slightly different from a liquid layout. A liquid page layout means a structure that expands along with the page. Recently, it has become less popular. However with the great number of internet enabled devices and their varying screen resolutions, liquid layouts have become very important.

A fluid grid is slightly different from the liquid layout in the sense that it is more proportioned. So, when the screen sizes change, all the elements of the layout change their their sizes in relation to each other. How To Send Password Protected Documents Via Email

Matters of privacy and online safety have been progressively tossed around in the media in recent years. More and more people fear that their privacy is constantly being invaded and that their emails are being read. Whether that is true or not, I can't really say. For those of you who believe this is the case and you want to send sensitive data via email, I can teach you how you can protect it. Using passwords is a very basic cryptic method, but it ensures that only you and the party you're sending the message to can read it (provided they have the password).

This way you can be sure that there is no way that your message can be decrypted. Keep in mind that cracking passwords doesn't really work like it does in the movies. Even though it would be possible for someone to crack a basic password, it can take days if your password is strong enough (I recommend using random numbers and letters create it). Almost nobody would dedicate that amount of time on your emails so you will be safe. But how can you do it? The process has two basic components – online and offline. We will begin with offline.

Offline

The offline component is where it all begins. What you need here is Microsoft Word. Word is great program and will allow you to type your message and then encrypt it without the use of external software.

Open your MS Word file and type your message. Take your time and make sure that you've included absolutely everything you wish to say to the person you're sending it to. Once you're done with the message, take a few minutes to think about the password. It needs to be something you both know, or otherwise they won't be able to open the file. You can actually think of a complicated password and send it them coded in another email with a simpler password, but I don't think that things should go that far. Still, if you really want to be extra careful, that's one of the ways to do it. The other one is sending a physical letter or SMS with password and then sending the encrypted document via email. You have imagination – I'm leaving the options to you.

Once you know what password you want to use, you should go to Tools, and then Options in the menu. You will find the Security options there. You will then see a field that says, “Password to Open”. Type your password there and click OK. In the next field, re-type the password so you can confirm it, and then click OK again. You've set the password. Good job. Now click “Save as...” and save the file where it will be easy for you to locate.

Online

Now that the file is ready for sending, go to your email account. This is the online component of the process and it's by far the simpler one. Simply log into your account, then click “Compose new message”. Type in the email address of the receiver, along with the subject and something like, “See attached file” or a hint toward the password if you haven't sent it to them, but you know they can figure it out. Then click attach file and locate the encrypted file you had composed beforehand. Double-click it and it will be attached to the email. All that's left is to hit the send button and you're all set.

The last thing a large corporation wants is to have any of their sensitive information compromised during a virtualized presentation to remote offices. Securing presentation virtualization, desktop virtualization, application virtualization, and any other kind of virtual platforms will ensure that this great technological development can be used to make your company, and not break it.

Using Secure Platforms

There are several really good virtualization security blogs out there today to help companies and organizations learn about the right platforms so they can use this incredible capability securely. There will always be risks, but those risks can be significantly reduced when the right precautions are taken, and the right programs are used. Most of the time security issues can be decreased significantly just by having the right processes and staff in place to manage virtualized data.

For the most part, virtualization has helped companies, rather than hurt them. As long as the simple and common precautions are taken, the risk is very minimal. The effects of virtualized information getting into the wrong hands, however, can literally bring an entire company to the ground. This is more of an issue for large corporations than smaller businesses, but still not something any company wants to deal with.

SBC or Session Border Controllers are devices that are regularly used in VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) networks in order to gain control through the signaling involved in the setting up, tearing, and conducting of media streams down the lines for telephone calls and other communications used in interactive media.

The early implementations of SBCs were mainly focused on the borderline in between two service network providers in a peer environment.
