6pm.com is an online clothing outlet with a huge selection of discounted dresses. At the time of our visit, we saw more than 50 pages of dresses, with about 100 dresses per page! There are many styles, from little black dresses, to metallic sequined dresses, to ribbed dresses. Labels include Tahari by ASL, The North Face, Calvin Klein, DC, BCBGMAXAZRIA, BB Dakota, DKNYC, Free People, Hurley, Lucky Brand, Karen Kane, Three Dots, Roxy and more.

An interesting feature of the website: there are short videos that accompany many of the dress descriptions. The media features models walking and turning so that shoppers may get a sense of how the clothing looks when worn. The website footer indicates that 6pm.com is operated by Zappos Development, Inc.

Clearance Skirts from Garnet Hill

Garnet Hill is a clothing and home decor business that offers some versatile skirts, and at some reasonable prices. During our recent visit to the company's website, we saw a knee-length pencil skirt offered for $39, and a crinkled cotton party skirt (cut just above the knee) offered for $14 (original price: $98.). Versace Teams Up with H and M

Fashion label Versace is working with Stockholm-based retailer Hennes & Mauritz AB (H&M), to offer a fall line that includes clothing for men and women and some items for the home. We've discovered a site that offers some attractive dress options at some ridiculously low prices. The Alloy, store is part of an entertainment/fashion blog. The dress section has quite an extensive selection, covering categories such as Bohemian, print, maxi, rompers, knit and others. Within those categories you'll find tunic dresses, tank dresses, Boho dresses, tee dresses and other interesting styles. At the time of our visit, we saw several dresses priced below $30, and if you visit the clearance section, you may see some items offered for about $20. The Alloy store also offers jeans, tops, shoes, swimwear and more.

By all appearances, the inventory turns over quickly at HSN. Our visit to the clearance dresses section turned up many dresses for less than $30, and some were even priced in the teens. Labels include DKNYC, Serena Williams, Slinky, Thread by Thread Social, Twiggy LONDON, Randolph Duke, Tiana B, Tara Swennen and others. We saw many styles, everthing from laid-back sweater tunic dresses, to sequined dresses for evenings out. If you look beyond the clearance section, you'll find many products that are sorted into useful categories: A-line dresses, shirt dresses, babydoll dresses, shift dresses and more. The HSN home page also features a daily special section where you may find a fashionable article of clothing at a good price.

At the time of our visit, the company offered product from nearly 100 different labels, including names you know: Badgley Mischka, Calvin Klein, Nicole Miller, Nina Ricci and more. The website invites members (free membership as of this writing) to enter the date of their event, their dress size and their zip code. After a customer selects a dress, she'll receive it in the mail. After the event, she sends it back in a pre-paid envelope. The website has a lot of interesting and helpful content, including information about insurance and testimonials. There's an email form, a phone number and a chat widget so that you may ask specific questions as you're considering involvement. Certainly an innovative idea!

You may not initially think of department stores when you're looking for a prom dress, but some of the national chains have interesting formal dresses. Macy's has a prom shop featuring many types of long prom dresses and short prom dresses, from brands that may be unfamiliar: Trixxi, XOXO, Ruby Rox, Speechless, Adriana Papell, B Darlin and list goes on and on. The online store has several different price ranges. At the time of our visit, there were quite a few dresses priced below $100. and there was even a category for "Under $50." Styles include one-shoulder, strapless, sleeveless, halter, minis, gowns and more. Many local formal dress specialty shops register dresses for specific schools, so that an individual's dress will be unique. If you're buying from a department store, you may want ask if they perform a registry service.

Matilda Jane Recalls Girl's Chelsa Dress

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Indiana-based Matilda Jane, announces a voluntary recall of the "Chelsa" girl's dress. The item is a sleeveless sundress in sizes 2, 4, and 6. The top is white with green polka dots; the bottom is printed with a green and yellow floral design and has a multi-colored floral border at the hem. A CPSC news release states that a possible hazard involves buttons that can come off, "...posing a choking hazard." The dresses were manufactured in China and were sold at in-home trunk shows and online from February 1 through February 25, 2011. Consumers should stop using the recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. The recall involves about 1,500 units.

Costco to Sell Wedding Dresses

Mass retailer Target is celebrating five years of its "fashion-forward, affordably-priced GO International program" with the re-release of 34 dresses by 17 past designers of that program. The prices will range from about $25. to about $45. If clothes shopping is a part of your routine, you've probably already noticed that prices are getting steeper, and that's likely to continue as cotton prices rise upward. Several factors are influencing the trend, including weather-related crop damage in several countries, demand due to strengthening economies, declines in U.S. inventory, and futures prices. The Washington Post reports that some Chinese cotton farmers are hoarding crop, holding out for higher prices. If you anticipate a personal need for cotton socks, cotton underwear, jeans, or a nice cotton dress, and if your finances are in good order, you may want to consider shopping for those items now in order to buy them at cheaper prices.

We generally try to feature companies that offer inexpensive, quality products, but sometimes we make exceptions because particular companies offers very attractive or noteworthy items. Today's post highlights Peruvian Connection, a business that presents a collection of very striking skirts. Browse through their website and you may find some items for less than $100, but many of the items are listed somewhere between $100. and $200. The company offers some fantastic exotic patterns and many eye-catching styles, including a "Pima Cotton Ricoco Skirt" and an "Alvarado" skirt. If you see something appealing while browsing through thumbnails, be sure to click on the photo in order to see the skirt put together with other items, resulting in some very tasteful ensembles.

As of this writing, Peruvian Connection has a handful of stores in the United States, and one in Henley-on-Thames, England. The company describes it's offerings as: "Artisan apparel for nomads and romantics."

The folks at Pantone have released their new palette of colors for women's clothing, chosen by New York designers for spring 2011. The mostly soft and bright collection of colors includes some creative monikers: a milky yellow that's called "Beeswax," a light brown that's labeled "Russet," and a peppy pink that's named "Honeysuckle." A trip to the Pantone home page reveals that Honeysuckle is "The 2011 Color of the Year," as it "...lifts spirits and imparts confidence to meet life's ongoing challenges." No doubt we'll be seeing many honeysuckle pink shirts, dresses, scarfs and other accessories in the coming months.

Modest Prom Dresses from Twirl Prom

If you want your prom dress to make a bold fashion statement and be modest at the same time, then Twirl Prom may have the dress for you. The company offers a variety of bright and colorful gown designs, all of which cover the shoulders, chest and back. You'll find the popular mermaid-style dresses, gathered skirts, ball gowns and rhinestones that you would expect to find with other labels; these dresses simply have a bit more material. The prices of these dresses are higher than the products of some of the discount prom labels that we've featured: the lowest price we saw was for a chiffon A-line, "understated with a soft square neckline, side wrap detailed with a beading and tulip sleeves." At the time of our visit, that dress--available in hot pink, lavender and apple--was $149. Some of the dresses are very eye-catching. This website is worth a visit when you're considering dresses for formal events.

Colors include black, chocolate, sage, light sky blue, champagne, lilac, daffodil and many more. We found many dresses listed at $69. and at $79. The company also offers custom tailoring for dresses if you send them your measurements. This page describes the amount of time required for tailoring and for shipping.

When shopping for prom dresses online, we recommend that you search for reviews, and that you order your item well in advance of your event so that you have plenty of time to return or exchange your item if it doesn't meet your expectations. This company seems to have some nice products at great prices, but we were a bit wary about the fact that we couldn't find a physical address for the company on the website.

Our primary focus on this blog is to search out good deals on dresses. From time to time we like to highlight dresses that may not have cheap price tags, but they're so so remarkable that they're worthy of a feature post. Today's post features spectacular medieval-themed wedding dresses by Faerie Brides. The company creates medieval wedding gowns, intricate medieval wedding headpieces and aptly named custom storybook gowns such as "Snow White," "The Princess" and "The Queen of Diamonds."
