Fitness products have seen a huge surge in demand over the last year and devices by Slendrtone are no exception. The company asked me to shoot a campaign for them last summer in between lockdowns. We shot in two location houses with six models over two days and produced an extensive image library for the company.

The first signs of easing Covid restrictions come in to play today in England with up to six people allowed to meet outside. They may even want to have a drink or two! This campaign was shot for Diageo and it was all about friends enjoying a drink outside. Production was by Lisa Pritchard Agency.

Combined stills and video capture

I am increasingly being asked to direct video content alongside stills these days and this combined stills and video shoot is a good example. I directed this short film for Barlow Tyrie with DOP Radford Nicholls last summer. I shot stills and Radford weaved around me capturing video at the same time. We also added a bit of drone action.

Lifestyle shoot for the new electric charging service BP Pulse

I shot this campaign for BP Pulse back in the summer between lock downs. Working alongside a moving image crew, we shot models using the electric car chargers at petrol filling stations and at a home location over a couple of days.

Travels in Rajasthan

The majority of what I shoot is lifestyle advertising photography involving collaboration with producers, assistants stylists, location finders and models. That’s quite a contrast to the travel work that I shoot which is either myself working alone or with a journalist. It’s hard to beat the thrill of arriving at a location with a loose plan and then just moving forward chasing the best light and discovering the wonderful people, landscapes, cities and wildlife in different countries. None of that has been possible for quite a long time now so I’m spending hours reminiscing over images from past adventures. Im going to show a few of those images here starting with some shots from my travels in Rajasthan.

Healthcare lifestyle shoot for GSK in Cape Town

When I shot this vaccine awareness campaign for GSK a few years back there was no inkling that Covid would make vaccination so critically important for all of us. I shot a sports lifestyle story with Ruben last month. We shot at one of my favourite outdoor locations in Epping Forest. Ruben uses the forest like a gym, running and working out using the natural tools at hand in the woods.

A few years back I went to Sri Lanka to shoot a travel story but the trip was a washout with grey skies and almost constant rain. I was pretty dejected by day nine of the ten day trip as I set off for a barefoot beach walk with just a canon 5D and a 24-70 zoom. The sky was steely grey and it was drizzling as I rounded a headland to see a large group of seemingly terrified young men in army fatigues being screamed at by senior officers as they were put through exercises that included forced marches into the sea. I’d stumbled upon the Sri Lankan special boat squadron on a training exercise. I was the only other person on the beach and as I drew closer taking photographs I was warned off but somehow managed to get right into the action over the next hour or so before sunset. This series won the personal project prize at the AOP awards

Adam and Loha

Lockdown has me missing the random interactions that happen by walking the streets and meeting people. I rarely say anything about how my personal and commissioned shoots evolve when I post to social media so over the next few weeks I thought I’d take a look at my archive and share some of my experiences and actually use words and pictures!

Often I will see people when I’m out and about in London and I’ll think, wow, they would be great for a story. I spotted Adam and Loha in Kings Cross as I left a client meeting and thought they would be great to shoot. I had a chat with them and they thought it would be fun to collaborate so we met up the next day to shoot in (and on top of!) my house and surround neighbourhood in Islington. They were fantastic to work and even clambered onto the roof of my house for some shots. We combined their own wardrobe with some items I got from Topshop. I’m never quite sure what people think when I accost them on the streets this way but some how they nearly always say yes and quite often the results are really pleasing, to me at least!

On one of my favourite shoots I was asked to photograph a large image library and an above the line campaign over two weeks in Jamacia for Digicel. Fifty five models were photographed including a few street cast people to keep things looking authentic. Some of the friendliest people I have ever come across!

'Vaccinate for Life' campaign shot for GSK

This is a campaign that I shot for GSK in Cape Town South Africa. The client wanted a wide range of families of different ethnicities to be portrayed in typical domestic leisure scenarios. Cape Town is a regular destination for a wide range of my shoots as there are many excellent production companies, model agencies and fantastic locations to choose from. Of course the primary attraction during UK winter months are the long hours of almost guaranteed sunshine which always makes a trip to South Africa worthwhile.
