Its been long since I have last written on my blog log. Infact I was wondering as what all should I share about India. Being a geographically vast country, it was difficult for me to blog strategically, so I thought let my blog be random.

In this blog entry, I would speak about Goa and its beaches, situated on the western coast of India. Nestled on Western Ghats, it has an amazing range of flora and fuana. Goa is a interesting mix of cultures. You can easily see a major influence of portugese on this land. The culture of Goa has witnessed a seamless blend of ethnic and Portuguese traditions.

People of Goa are highly amicable and I didn't faced any such problem, though I kept myself as an awared traveller and never showed my trust on anyone. Being a backpacker in Goa, could have created few problems.

The first thing that I ventured out were offcourse Goa Beaches. Goa carries a coastline of about the 125-kilometer long and it is studded with number of glittering beaches. Some of the famous beaches that I explored were Anjuna, Baga, Colva and Benaulim Beach.

And yes surprising I happened to see an interesting beach culture. There were beautiful rustic beach shacks that provided space to travellers to spend some time in leisure. There were exotic night parties serving equally delicious food.

I tried different types of prawns and fishes and believe me, they were lipsmacking. The sea food cooked here taste somewhat different. I would especially request you to please try out the yummy fishes....

You need atleast three to four days inorder to enjoy beaches of Goa and I would recommend you take its full pleasure..

Though I am not a travel expert but since I have visited India quite a few time (count 12), I have got an idea, as on how to safely travel in India. It has kind of became my second home and I am quite habitual with it. More so I am dying to give you my travelling tips to India. So here is my quick five:

1) Take a help of a reputed travel expert. Before deciding one, I would recommend to access his credibility regarding the same. This is especially important for those travellers who are visiting India for the first time.

2) See that you have valid passport and Visas.

3) It is always good to be in groups. The people of India are amiable but yet at the same time there are quite a few who are crooks or touts. Protect yourself from them and don't let yourself fall prey to them.

4) This one is for Women. The third point remains especially valid for you. I would also suggest to avoid travelling in night as India is not that safe during dark. It is better to prevent then to remorse.

5) Don't show off your money..

The largest mosque in India, Jama Masjid was the last monument built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and was completed in 1656. It is located in Old Delhi. It was earlier known as Masjid-i-Jahan Numa that means 'mosque commanding world's attention'.

It took around five thousand workers who toiled for six years and about a million of rupees to build the mosque. Even today, it is the largest mosque and the most famous in India. Like the other structures built by the Mughals, this one is also made of marble and red sandstone. This historical extravaganza also saw several attacks and plundering of its important contents.

There are three gateways to the mosque one each on the north, south and the east through steps that used to have shops and stalls. The eastern gate that is the largest and the highest, was used by the emperor to enter the mosque. The entrance leads to a vast rectangular courtyard or prayer hall around 75 m by 65 m, that can accommodate 25,000 people.

Crowds of people gather on religious occasions such as Ramzan and Id. The western chamber stands on 260 pillars carved in the Hindu and Jain forms which is quite strange for a Muslim mosque to adorn.

The west facing mosque stands on a 1.5 m high plinth and has a flight of steps taking to the interiors. Black marble borders are used for markings of three feet length and 1.5 m in width, for worshipers to offer prayers in such columns which are 899 in number. Mats are spread on the marble floor following the Muslim prayer traditions.

The onion-shaped domes, towers, tapering minarets and the prayer hall are the main attractions to be seen in Jama Masjid. The mosque preserves priceless relics of Prophet Mohammad, like his footwear, his footprint, a red beard-hair and Quran written on deer-skin in a closet that make the mosque a sacred place to offer prayers.

The mosque overlooks the most ethnic and vibrant mosques of Delhi, Chandni Chowk and overlooks the gigantic Red Fort, which holds a lot of historical significance.
The mosque is open on all days except during prayer hours.
Travellers cross distant sees to appreciate and take back with them the unrivaled love. The mute spectator feel the romance as the inspiration behind this flawless marvel.

Khurram, who latter came to be known as Shah Jahan, won a battle in 1628 AD to become the king. He went on to marry the very charming Arjumand Bano Begum, or Mumtaz Mahal as she was called by Shah Jahan because she was as precious for him as the crown of the palace. She stayed with him in his good and bad times, be it palaces or war camps.

Mumtaz Mahal died when she was just 39 years old while giving birth to their 14th child in Burhanpur.

Shah Jahan was heart-broken and the Palace went into mourning for two whole years which prohibited music and feasting in the palace. He decided to build an unparalleled tomb in her memory which would be revered and maas the beauty of Mumtaz Mahal for the times to come. He chose the garden belonging to Raja Jai Singh of Amber, Rajasthan, that was located where the river bends strategically fit to be seen from Shah Jahan's palace in Agra Fort that was upstream.

The construction of the Monument begun in the year 1631 with 20,000 labours, adept architects, stone-carvers,calligraphers and masons using raw materials brought from all over Asia. Innumerous semi-precious and precious stones were brought from Yemen, Arabia, Persia and used to bejewel the final resting place of his beloved wife like a crown. It took around 20,000 labours,,1000 elephants and approx. 32 million rupees (approx. $68,000).

Shah Jahan died in 1966 A.D. watching his creation and reminiscing his wife from Agra Fort were he was imprisoned by his son, Aurangzeb who later entombed Shah Jahan near Mumtaz Mahal's tomb.
Flashback

Its the only land in India which has never been invaded by Foriegners, this land whose meaning stands for a land blessed by Mother Goddess, River Cauvery.

Ruled by Kadambas from 2nd to the 6th century,in the northern province; its The southern parts were successively connected to the Ganga Dynasty from the 4th to the 11th century. In the 11th century, the Cholas emerged as the sole rulers of the whole of Kodagu.

During the 12th century the Hoysalas, drove away the Cholas from Kodagu. From the 14th century, the Vijayanagara Kings ruled supreme. After their fall, the local chieftans or Nayaks and Palegars, became independent and started ruling from wherever they stayed.

Later on the Haleri Kings defeated them all and ruled Kodagu from 1600-1834. From then on Kodagu came under the direct rule of the British. Then on independence of India it became a part of Indian Government.

Coorg at its Best

Nagarhole National Park – A home for a number of Flora and Fauna, its a delight to be here. Hundreds and hundreds of elephants move around here in these man made wilds. 93 kms away from Coorg it provides excellent opportunity for wildlife viewing. Here, one can see the swift-footed spotted deer, bison, elephant, wild boar and jackal, different species of monkey

Madikeri Fort - It was a fort made up of Mud till the King Tipu Sultan got it reconstructed into a stone one.Inside the fort is the palace of of the Lingayat rulers, a reflection of the grand palaces seen elsewhere. Move around here to have a glimpse of the design and simple architecture of Coorg. The museum inside the fort has the pieces of the past in the form of arms, Armour, paintings and precious jewelery of the past rulers.

Abbe Falls – In Koddava dialect Abbi means falls. One of the most beautiful places in Coorg this is a must watch for those who visit Coorg. The sound of falling waters will change your mood and make you feel light and happy.

Irrpu and Kakkabe Falls – If the sound of falling waters attracts you this is the place to go for. This dense forest area with the wilds has been an attraction for years and is bound to attract you. Far from the city lights it gives you a feeling of being in a real wild.

Omkareshwar Temple – For all those who love a visit to the temples, this is another masterpiece. Dedicated to Lord Shiva (God of Destruction), it has Islamic and Gothic style in its architecture. Built by Kodagu King Lingaraja in 1820, the temple has a remarkable shape. Made in Mohammedan style it has a central dome carved to beauty and four minarets(pillars), which are further surrounded by Basavas(Sacred Bulls). The window frames and the sculpted blocks make for an art in themselves.

Kalipodhu Festival - Falling on the 3rd of September,it marks the transplantation of paddy. On the Day of Kalipodhu all the arms are taken out from the Pooja (prayer) room and cleaned and decorated with flowers. They are then kept in the Central Hall of the house and prayed. Attend this festival to see the Culture of Coorg.

Kaveri Sankramana Festival – Normally celebrated in mid – October it marks the pooja (prayer)of the River Kaveri . In this festival a small fountain fills the bigger holy tank at Talakaveri. People throng in thousands to take a dip in this holy water. The water is collected in bottles and reaches every house in Kodagu, and this is called Theertha - holy water. This water is preserved in all Kodava houses, and a spoonful of this water is fed to the dying, in the belief that they will attain moksha (emancipation) and gain entry to heaven. Not much of music dance it is supposed to bring Nirvana. Attend this festival to get e true picture of Indias Culture.

Puttari – Marking the harvest of rice, this festival is celebrated in the last of November or early of December. Special food is prepared on this day and the path from the house to the paddy field is decorated. The Gods are prayed and thus it marks the harvest of the new paddy.

Where and Why
Its a trekking paradise, the food is a treat in every sense, nature is at its best in the form of falls and the wilds play with the tigers and elephants. What more you could ask for – Solitude! Did you say, even that is there. Began your journey with a trip to the Omkareshwar Temple. Devoted to Lord Shiva, its an architectural beauty to visit. More than that, its always good to begin a Journey from the doorsteps of God. After being blessed move on to see the nature and its various antics. What better you will find than the Irrppu and Kakkabe falls. The sound of the falling water humming down your ears gives you a pleasant feeling. Sit here for some time and you will forget the arch lights of city. Take photographs hanging out here – after all there are the memories which would follow.

Na, don’t let the adventure stop here. Go to the Nagarhole National Park- enjoy being among the wild and the wild animals. You will be welcomed by elephants (there are hundreds of them), the tigers (did i see them smiling at you!) and don’t forget the little birds which nestle down here.

If being near one Fall urges you to go for another, Coorg has more for you. So for the Abbe Falls, one of the most beautiful falls of Coorg. And as you fall in love with the scenic beauty of the nature, walk a little more to see the Madikeri Fort. Standing till today it tells you about the history of Coorg. Watch the Fort speak of its own history in the form of paintings, scriptures and the remnants of the past both inside the Fort and the Fort Museum.

Did we talk about the Coffee Plantations. If you are in Coorg than you must visit ones. See how the little saplings turn into fruits which further break down to coffee beans to make hot aromatic cup of coffee for you.

But that’s not the end, a trip to South India is incomplete without tasting the delicacies of South India. So go ahead, make each day of your day a cool respite of Indian flavors.
Be it historical incidents, political rivalry of erstwhile kingdoms or the struggle for freedom of India, Delhi has always been centre of attraction. As Delhi has seen the rule of a number of Emperors, it has been a hub of various monuments which stand still as evidences of the architectural brilliance. There is a long list of tourist attractions in Delhi, which are flocked by a large number of visitors from far away places.

India Gate

India Gate is one of the historical monuments of Delhi. It was built in 1911 and was named as All India War Memorial. India Gate is an arch of 42 meters in height, which was designed by Lutyens. It is a monument built in memory of 90,000 soldiers of Indian Army who sacrificed their lives in World War I. One can see names of all the soldiers inscribed on all the walls of this monument. An eternal flame in honour of immortal soldiers keeps burning 24 hours at India Gate, which was lit in 1971 for the first time.

Purana Qila (Old Fort)

Purana Quila was built by Emperor Sher Shah Suri between 1538 and 1545 AD. It was constructed on the banks of river Yamuna on a small hill. The fort still stands in dilapidated condition. According to a famous legend, Purana Qila marked site of the capital of Pandavas, Indraprastha. The famous Mughal King lost his life at this Fort as he fell from one of the towers. Main attraction of Purana Qila is a small lake at its foothill where one can enjoy boating, which is arranged by Delhi Tourism.

Jantar Mantar

Jantar Mantar literally means calculation instrument. It was constructed by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur in 1724 for the purpose of measuring time and predicting the movement of stars and planets. Hence, the monument also has astronomical importance. It is also one of the most visited parts in the planet. With its mind bending diversity, from snowcapped mountains to lusty beaches, remnants of ancient world to tranquil world of mysticism, ramshackle rural villages to techno savvy urban hubs, India holds plenty surprises in every corner of landscape.

In spite of its filthiness, poor transportation, multilingual confusion and countless other quandaries, India still allure travelers from across the globe. The subcontinent is the seventh largest and second most populated country in the world. It is a home to more than a billion people and its eclectic mélange of ethnic groups translates into an intoxicating cultural cocktail for the traveler. India is a cauldron of spiritualism and to be best discovered by its ancient philosophies. For those on a spiritual quest, India offer stirring philosophies while who love to dwell in history, will discover relics from almost every corner of this magnificent landscape. There is something for everyone. Adventurers can scout for wilds on some adrenaline pumping wildlife safari and quench their thirst in the mighty Himalayas.

Then there is the food! Like culture, palate also changes from one landscape to others. From unadorned south India idlis (rice dumplings) to invigorating north Indian curries, travelers are treated to a positive seductive smorgasbord of sub continental specialties.

Unfolding India is an unending task as its very essence its elusive soul lies in its mystery. Love it or loath it it is like addiction, you love the ecstasy and keep you in some illusive world. India will jostle your entire being and no matter where you go or what you do, it’s a place you will never forget.

The Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh will soon get a full-fledged police force to protect the Tiger population in the region, from poaching and smuggling activities. The district being close to the Nepal border is highly sensitive to illegal activities by anti-Indian elements from Nepal. The Katarniyaghat Tiger Reserve here, which is home to 54 Tigers and 32 Leopards along with other species of rare fauna, is spread in an area of 400 sq km and is a close target for smugglers and poachers coming from across the Nepal border.

The Katarniyaghat forest area, along with other wild animals. To protect these rare creatures, a special Tiger Police Force has been planned by the Shastra Seema Bal (SSB) which will have 150 armed security personnel, that will include ex-Army men and forest guards. The force is being trained to keep tight vigil in the region, to prevent poaching, timber smuggling and other illegal activities.

The security force is specially put on high alert during the monsoons (July-August), when poor weather conditions and water logging in the deep forests make it easier for the illegal activities to take place. Watch towers, search lights and close circuit cameras are also planned to be deployed to aid the security personnel in keeping an eye on their target.

The team will be fully armed with rifles and other equipments and put on vigil in the special zones, where most of the Tigers are to be found. The 40 beats and 28 special vigil zones of the forest cover will be carefully allotted to the security staff of the SSB, the forest department and local police force to spread out in the entire zone.

A few months ago, three people were arrested in this area for smuggling wild animal skin to Nepal. All the three had admitted that they were part of the smugglers' gang belonging to Nepal. They informed the police that they had been selling the smuggled animal skin, including that of Tigers, Leopards, Hyenas and other rare species of fauna, in Nepal, China, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh too. Such incidents had become common in the area, but the authorities hope that once the proposal is accepted by the Government, life will become easier for the endangered species.
