'Magic Mike': Channing Tatum sent Matt Bomer YouTube stripper videos

2012-06-24T04:13:00.002-07:00

While he's known for his impeccable fashion sense on USA's "White Collar," Matt Bomer will be flexing his acting -- and abdominal -- muscles as a male stripper when "Magic Mike" opens in theaters on Friday, June 29.

The film is based on title star Channing Tatum's own real-life stripping experiences, and the friendly Bomer tells Zap2it, "Channing is one of my favorite people I've ever gotten to work with. He was incredibly accessible to all of us, which was really important in being able to tell this story. He created this environment that was very ensemble-oriented, even though he was 'Magic Mike.' He made everybody feel special and welcome."

Also citing Tatum as "an incredible resource and a great leader," Bomer notes "there was dramatic license taken" with the story of Tatum's own days as a stripper in his late teens, "but I wanted to make sure I nailed whatever aspect he wanted put out there. He sent me videos from YouTube of this guy he thought would be a good basis for my character. Then, everybody got to run wild with their own ideas.

"I've never been more proud to be a part of a movie," Bomer maintains. "It's a fun film, a great summer movie ... and obviously well-done." That's because its maker is Oscar winner Steven Soderbergh ("Traffic," "Erin Brockovich," "Ocean's Eleven"), deemed by Bomer "one of the great directors of all time, and one of the most prolific as well. It was just a dream come true to get to work with him."

Versatile Actor Mark Wahlberg

2012-06-10T13:01:00.001-07:00

Mark Wahlberg is an "extraordinarily versatile" actor, according to 'Ted' director Seth MacFarlane.

The action star has taken on a comedy role in the new movie where he plays a grown man reunited with a life-size version of his treasured childhood teddy bear, Ted, who quickly starts to come between him and his girlfriend (Mila Kunis) and Seth was impressed with Mark's range.

He told Empire magazine: "There's not much he can't do. He's extraordinarily versatile. It's always surprising because he's such a humble guy who's not showy about it.

"He'll just very quietly come onto the set and do anything you throw at him and do it brilliantly. Mark's character has to pull the audience into this reality in a way that makes it seem like not that big a deal. He has to be able to talk to an empty space with the comfort that would show he was talking to another live actor and Mark just knocked that out of the park."

Seth admits the movie "asks a lot" of Mark but says he was more than capable.

He added: "There's broad physical comedy in the movie, there's subtle dialogue comedy. It asks a lot of an actor. And Mark had displayed so many different skills in so many different movies that he seemed like he would be the perfect balance. He could give us everything we needed, every style."

Bradley Cooper nervous over 'Silver Linings Playbook' role

2012-06-10T04:01:00.002-07:00

The 37-year-old actor was apprehensive about taking on the role of a psychiatric patient trying to win back his wife because he thought director David O. Russell - who helmed "The Fighter" - would be very demanding, but he enjoyed the experience and they are now firm friends.

He said: ''I was nervous to work with David because I knew he was going to be so demanding - I've seen all his movies and there's really not one bad performance.
''But it was an incredible experience and he's become a dear friend.''

Bradley is particularly enjoying his career at the moment because he is doing his best to challenge himself professionally.

He told Total Film: ''Lately I've been doing things that really scare me. I've taken on projects that are compelling and challenging.''

One such challenge was on "The Words" - in which he plays a struggling writer who obtains overnight success after stealing another author's work - which was directed by his old friends Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal and also stars Jeremy Irons, Dennis Quaid, Ben Barnes and Zoe Saldana.

He said: ''[I enjoyed it but] there were some very extreme conditions. It's a very complicated story and there wasn't much money or time - it was crazy.''

Adam Sandler Takes On Projects That Make Him Laugh

2012-06-07T23:25:00.001-07:00

Adam Sandler says he usually takes on the movie projects that make him laugh.

The actor admits that has plenty of choice when it comes to roles but the script has to pass the test of making him and his friends laugh.

Speaking to The Press Association the actor said: "I have choices between comedies. A lot of people send me stuff, that's true and whatever makes me laugh, and my friends laugh, we end up doing next.

"This movie in particular, my character was the type of guy I have seen in my life and has made me laugh.

"A guy who is a little out of control and not afraid to drink 25 beers in a night and I don't know, these guys make me laugh."

Sandler is back on the big screen at the end of the summer with his new movie That's My Boy, which will see him star alongside Andy Samberg and Leighton Leester while Sean Anders is in the director's chair.

This is the first movie for Sandler since Jack and Jill but her has plenty of projects in the pipeline; he has lent his voice to animation movie Hotel Transylvania and he is currently filming Grown Ups 2.

Matt Damon gives his support to cancer center

2012-06-07T23:11:00.000-07:00

Matt Damon may be one of the hardest-working guys in Hollywood – he’s got three films in the works right now – but he was still available to emcee Thursday’s fund-raiser for the Mass General Hospital Cancer Center. The evening, honoring 100 people and groups who’ve helped advance the fight against cancer, is near and dear to Damon because his dad, Kent, has been treated at MGH for multiple myeloma. (Kent was there with wife Celeste.) As guests were filing into the Westin Boston Waterfront, the actor talked about his connection to the event. “Obviously, it’s a great chance to honor these incredible people who are doing a lot for the cancer community,” Damon said, “and it’s a nice thing for my dad and I to be able to do it together.” Of course, we had to ask about his work, including the status of the much-ballyhooed Whitey Bulger biopic. “They’re writing a script so there’s not much to say,” he said. “It’d have to be a great script, but we have Terry Winter writing and he’s a great screenwriter.” Damon told us he was sorry to miss the Celtics game. “I think there will be a lot of doctors checking their iPhones. I’m sure some of the honorees will be mentioning the score.” But there was no doubt who he was rooting for: “That team has given us so much more than we ever could have asked for, so I’m enjoying it.” Aside from the Academy Award winner and his brother Kyle, guests included Dr. Jose Baselga, Vicary Graham, Dr. Daniel Haber, Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton, Robert Kraft, Jonathan and Patti Kraft, Stephen and Laura Lang, Michael Lorber, Putnam’s Bob Reynolds and wife Laura, former Genzyme CEO Henri Termeer and wife Belinda, throat doc to the stars Dr. Steven Zeitels. The evening also included a video tribute to Mary Dempsey from her brother, “Grey’s Anatomy” actor Patrick Dempsey. Mary is the executive director of the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center. Their mom, Amanda, is receiving treatment at Mass General Hospital.

Adam Sandler: My Clothes Embarrass My Daughters

2012-06-07T13:28:00.000-07:00

Adam Sandler has made a career of doing mortifying things, but it’s his life away from set that has daughters Sadie Madison, 6, and Sunny Madeline, 3, blushing.

“I do embarrass them now,” the comedian told PEOPLE during a press conference for his film That’s My Boy, in which he plays Andy Samberg‘s father.

The source of his daughters’ humiliation? Dad’s fashion sense.

“I wear shorts a lot,” Sandler, 45, explains. “And my kids do ask me to put pants on when I go to school. They ask, ‘Could you just one time wear pants?’ And every time I get out of the car, I look down and I go, ‘I got those shorts on! Who’s gonna yell at me?’”

The actor hasn’t enjoyed becoming the source of embarrassment for his girls — “I don’t look forward it,” he says — even if it doesn’t exactly come as a surprise. The comedian seems to be taking a cue from his own dad’s playbook.

“My father used to wear the same pants for like a week,” Sandler recalls. “And I remember that was like, ‘My friends have been over three times this week, and they’ve seen him in the brown pants [every time]. Can I please convince this guy to get on some blue pants for the day?’”

Still, the dad of two has accepted his latest cringe-worthy role.

“I’m getting older, and it happens,” he says. “You get a little [to the point where] you don’t care as much. I’m definitely at that age.”
