The training course aims to empower and develop the competences of Roma youth leaders and activists to take action, at local, national and European levels, against discrimination and anti-Gypsyism based on human rights and active youth participation.

Specific objectives:

-To strengthen participants’ understanding of key concepts of human rights, discriminationand anti-Gypsyism;
- To gather information about the realities of young Roma in Europe and the challenges they face, and to exchange practices and responses to discrimination developed by different social actors;

- To empower participants to take action and develop projects by and with young Roma for human rights in their local communities;

ATYPIC - Advanced Training on Local Youth Participation in High Diversity Contexts | Training course | 8-16 September 2012 | Portugal

8 days training aiming to improve youth participation in high diversity local contexts by developing already active youth workers competences trough an in depth experiential training.

BACKGROUND:

Youth Participation is often a challenge for NGO’s, from the point where they advocate for the youth added value to civil society to the authentic emancipation and empowerment of young people as equal social actors and precious agents of social transformation.
AIM:
To improve youth participation in high diversity local contexts by developing already active youth workers competences trough an in depth experiential training.

OBJECTIVES:

- Experience typical difficulties of a multicultural work setting, developing participants positive approach towards diversity and promoting antidiscrimination attitudes.
- Explore youth participation common obstacles and challenges, while formulating corresponding – and eventually innovative – solutions in the frame of youth work and non-formal education.
- Increase participants understanding of the importance of youth participation in its different dimensions: decision making, youth policy lobbying, NGYO’s programmes & activities, transformational leadership and civil society in general, as a human right.
- Introduce the “Have your say! - Manual on the Revised European Charter on the Participation of Young People in Local and Regional Life” as a reference tool to work in the field of Youth Participation.
- Develop participants understanding of conditions for youth participation and different co-operation forms between local authorities, youth organisations and young people.
- Exchange experiences, practices, opinions, educational tools and materials related to youth participation and diversity.
- Provide participants with standard theory, skills and tools to design, implement and evaluate meaningful and effective youth participation projects, including coaching good practices.
- Provide an opportunity for participants to design a youth participation project to implement as a follow-up of the training, while strengthening the network between the involved partner NGYO’s.
- Introduce a series of resources and funding opportunities that can be useful for bringing participants projects to reality, including Council of Europe and European Youth Foundation programmes.

TARGET GROUP

Active and experienced youth workers, trainers, youth participation project managers, youth policy makers. This is an advanced training – previous experience with youth participation processes is required. A strong motivation and support shall exist to implement a follow-up youth participation project.

SETTING & CONTENT

24 participants from different countries will meet in the city of Amarante, Portugal, for a week in order to learn and develop together their training competences, focused in multicultural youth work and local youth participation (and have a lot of fun along the way!). The group will be accommodated in wards rooms of four

Trainers will follow non-formal education methodologies, based in peer learning, experiential learning; participative methods will be used – participants shall expect to be very active along the whole programme. Everything will happen in English language.
Topics addressed include: diversity, youth participation, good practices in youth participation, co-operation at local level, advocacy, local youth policies, youth participation project management, etc.
This is an ideal opportunity to learn with your international peers and to initiate (or further develop) your own youth participation project, internationally or locally.

HOW TO APPLY:

Before you apply, make sure you meet the following participant profile:
- To fit into the target group (as in this document);
- Age 18-30 (a limited number of participants above 30 may be accepted, CoE funding rule: projects to "...be attended by participants of whom at least 75% are under the age of 30...");
- Full availability to attend the training (from 08 to 16.09.2012), in Portugal;
- Influence in decision making on their NGO’s;
- Able to communicate in English language;
- When selecting participants, priority will be given to those who will be involved in a youth participation project in the next 12 months (especially projects that have a strong multicultural component).

Dínamo is a local/regional youth NGO born in Sintra (a (sub)urban area of Lisbon and the municipality with more young people in Portugal) aimed at raising and facilitating youth participation in civil society. Dínamo is composed of 150 young people aged 16-25 (mostly), including migrants and youth at risk. Dínamo’s office is composed by 3 staff members plus punctual (local) volunteers.

Dínamo works in several fields like training, exchanges, youth policy lobbying, community development, social inclusion, intercultural dialogue, Human Rights education, community theater, etc. Along with the local community and regional projects, Dínamo often promotes international activities with an extensive network of partners and in cooperation with institutions like the European Commission, the Council of Europe or the European Youth Foundation.
Since 2010 Dínamo works in a long-term strategy until 2015 on youth participation and youth policy in local context called Sintra também é Tua!, funded by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and officially recommended by the Council of Europe.
Dínamo also has active members on the pools of trainers of the Youth in Action Portuguese Agency and of the Portuguese National Youth Council.

About Training

The aim of the training: to develop your communication skills to improve the quality of your life .
Communication is an important part of any work, including youth work. This training is open to everyone, nevertheless our organization is working with youth and youth organizations what will represent most of the participants. In the same time in this training will be involved participants who are working in the other fields (like business or state institutions) what can create transmition of information and elaborate communication between youth and non-youth field to support the development of quality of youth work and allow youth workers to find partners and ideas for future projects with young people.

31 peer educators, youth workers, trainers, and professionals - experienced and interested in media literacy and/or human rights, preferably with practical experience using media related methods will meet to share practices and results.

Aim: to focus on youth work with media and new information technologies, sharing results, information and creating a learning forum. The key element of the meeting is the concept of active and expressive media literacy as an innovative methodology in youth work and human rights education. This concept is to be discussed through results and examples.

- What inspires and interests youth in the age of digital media?
- What are the benefits and the challenges of using media in youth work?
- How can disadvantaged youth be reached through and included in the media?
- How can human and social issues be joined and shared through the media?

During the meeting participants will have the opportunity to share, reflect and develop activities through personal discussions, workshops and other contributions.

Who is expected to come?

The participants are expected to be youth workers (project managers, trainers) and representatives of such organizations able to share the knowledge, experiences and good practices, and finally to came up with the ideas of projects and find new partners for the projects.

The event is addressed to the NGOs and public institution working in the youth field interested to learn more and get involved in Youth in Action projects in general and on Eastern Partnership Window in particular.

A special focus will be addressed to organizations (NGOs or public institutions) interested to develop projects under the Eastern Partnership Window.

Participants are expected to be involved in youth or social work.

Working methods

During the event there will be used interactive and non-formal methods placing the participants in the center of the learning process and focusing on the understanding of the concepts and specifics of working in Youth in Action projects. A mix of workshops, facilitated discussions and other active tools will be mainly used while the work results will be presented in the plenary sessions.
The activities will be led by experienced facilitators with sound understanding of Youth in Action.

Where?

Predeal, Romania (in the Carpathian mountains). Participants are expected to arrive to the Henri Coanda airport in Bucharest where they will be picked up and transferred by the organizers to the hotel in Predeal. The transfer takes around 2.5 to 3 hours.

International training for those who are directly involved in the support system around the volunteer (mentors and task-related support persons) on the hosting, sending and coordinating side in the European Voluntary Service (EVS) – Action 2

The training course is designed for those who are directly involved in the support system around the EVS volunteer (mentors and task-related support persons) on the hosting, sending and coordinating side. The participants from Sending and Hosting organisations should already have some experience in EVS (minimum of being in the process of sending or hosting a volunteer, better having been already sending or receiving the first volunteer).

The overall aim of the SOHO TC is: To increase the quality of EVS activities through development of competencies (knowledge, skills and attitudes) of key actors involved in the support system around EVS volunteer. The specific objectives of the course are:

To get a better understanding of the concept of EVS as “learning service” and related quality aspects in EVS
To improve the ability for co-operation and working in international partnership
To reflect on the roles, responsibilities and challenges within the EVS volunteer support system
To raise awareness of the learning dimension in EVS and provide tools for learning support
To support the recognition of non formal learning in EVS through the implementation of the Youthpass

The programme of the SOHO TC is built around six quality aspects relevant to the support people around EVS volunteer. During the course participants will deepen their understanding and increase their competences in realation to the identified quality aspects (reflected practice – selection and inclusion - international partnership – support system - learning in EVS – recognition of learning through Youthpass) thanks to variety of training methods like simulation exercises, case studies, self-reflection tools, conceptual inputs and working groups.

Citizens, association, communities and enterprises are developing more in more initiatives for preserving the planet and building a more sustainable development.

The sustainable development is the condition for long lasting sport!

The LTTC “Go Green” aims to anchor the sustainable development into the sport.

The LTTC “Go Green” has as objectives:

-         to reinforce the exchange of practise among participants;
-         To share the tools for learning mixing sustainable development and sport;
-         To gathering together participants from neighbouring countries and programme countries about a sensitive topic;
-         To experiment a long term training experience and coaching;

Gender Equality Seminar

Aim :

Exchange experiences between youth workers and young people confronted to the difficulties to find a gender balance in terms of participation in local or international youth projects, spaces, organisations and activities, in order to open ways allowing to work on equality at the level of citizenship and participation.

Interregional youth social movement of support of voluntary initiatives “SFERA” has been established in March 2007 by uniting the efforts of youth non-governmental organizations from different subjects of Russian Federation. The geographical representation of “SFERA” movement is constantly expanding and nowadays it is represented in 15 regions.
The aim of the organization is development and support of youth initiatives by providing young people with access to volunteering regardless of nation, religious, social status and disadvantages. The main activities are: international voluntary workamps, EVS and other long-term voluntary projects for youth, educational activities for youngsters and organizations involved in social service, promotion campaigns of volunteering, charity and social services. The most of the organizational activities allow to exchange experiences, knowledge and skills between youth from EECA, European Union and other countries of the World in order to inspire a sence of solidarity, tolerance and mutual understanding.
“SFERA” movement operates at European level by organizing common projects and events with permanent partner organizations from all over the Europe. There are 83 permannet partners from all EU member countries and all EECA countries as well as from other parts of the World.
Furthermore “SFERA” movement is a member of Alliance of European Voluntary Organizations and a partner of Service Civil International (SCI).
Since 2007 “SFERA” is one of the official multipliers of Youth in Action programmme in EECA countries.
Organization has a democratic structure with the board which consists of young activists experienced in organizational activities. The staff of the organization also consists of young people. Nowadays there are 11 staff members and 7 permanent volunteers in “SFERA”.

Re-Imagining Gender is a seminar with elements of training in video-making skills. We want to explore world of gender imagery that surrounds us through learning and sharing experience, making videos, discussing, debating, photography....

Why is Vega organizing a gender related seminar/training?

Vega recognized the need to explore the problems, dilemmas, contradictions and wide variety of issues in relation to gender imagery and gender representation that we all have to operate within our day-to-day lives.

All our communication, images in our heads we create about individuals in relation to gender, our presumptions and opinions are built upon fortified, society-desirable, traditional to certain extent, representations of female and male – bodies, roles, looks, images , norms….Those representations nowadays, in societies overburdened with imagery coming from so many sides – TV, internet, pop-culture, movies, sitcoms, books, comics, advertisements are making sure that the “mainstream” gender stereotypes and representations of gender remain intact and still transmit the desirable models of gender.

We can perceive those images as political issue, we can perceive them as strong socialization tool, as something that forms culture and again hugely influences our lives but regardless of how we approach them – they shape us all and perpetuate binary gender system in which we all have to fit regardless of the endless number of possibilities reality offers.

With choosing this topic Vega wishes to invite you to share and connect, explore possibilities, learn and re-imagine boundaries of gender fixed and limited by the societies we live in!

While creating this hybrid training-seminar we anticipated gender and gender representation as a topic and video workshop as a tool to voice our opinions, standpoints, ideas and interpretations. Therefore, video advocacy is not less important and secondary neither for us nor it should be for you. There is a saying ‘picture is worth a thousand words’ and in our realities we are highly affected by images and visual content we are exposed to. Those images, both consciously and subconsciously, have an effect on our understanding of gendered societies and realities as a whole. With this video advocacy session, embedded in the course of the seminar, we are offering you a tool with which you can explore, express and voice your ideas while raising awareness of issues that concern you and that you’d like to advocate for.

Program

The six-day program will include:

• A theoretical and practical exploration of the concept of gender and gender representation in taken from a personal, political and social perspective;
• Workshops to discuss different issues as a way of sharing personal and organizational experiences whilst raising awareness;
• Videoing and video editing
• The creation of a safe environment for all participants to learn more about the relationship between the societal portrayal of gender and their identity-formation;
• A social program including intercultural evening, a free day, a welcome and closing party.

Working methods

The working methods will be varied and interactive with an emphasis on small working groups. Vega and its partners would like to have a great deal of input of experience from participants themselves (peer-to-peer education). The tools and resources developed during the conference will be made available to all organizations after the conference, so they can be multiplied in their local/regional/national/international youth communities.

Travel reimbursement

Training course aims to develop youth worker’s competence in building and maintaining individual relationship with a young person in relevant contexts.

Why?

Big part of youth work consists of individual contact with a young person. We can find many situations, where youth worker needs to have individual conversation with a young person in order to enhance his personal growth, give feed- back on his behaviour in the group, discuss issues of gender etc. One-to-one communication is the most intensive and common form of communication. It is the obvious and natural form, but professionals need training to develop competence in order to support young person’s development through individual process.

Training course aims to develop youth worker’s competence in building and maintaining individual relationship with a young person in relevant contexts.

We want to invite potential participants - youth workers, who work with groups of young people as well as individually with young person within different contexts, topics and/ or actions of Youth in action programme (EVS, Youth initiatives, Youth exchanges etc.) – to engaging, based on needs 4 full days training programme.

The programme will consist of these elements:

Exploring and clarifying:

✓Different approaches to professional individual relationship (coaching, mentoring, counseling etc.);
✓Contexts and situations, where individual relationship with young person takes place;
✓Aims and objectives of individual relationship;
✓The nature of one to one communication.

Practicing:

✓Communication skills;
✓Techniques and methods of individual professional dialogue;
✓ Feedback skills;
✓ Possibilities and limits of preferred style of individual relationship with young person.

We intend, that at the end of this course participants:

✓ would be able to identify contexts and situations, where individual relationship with young person needs to be built and developed.
✓ feel confident in their communication skills and capacities with young persona individually.
✓would be aware of different approaches, techniques and methods of individual contact with a young person and be able to use them.
✓would become aware of his/her own style to be in the relationship with young person and will be conscious about it’s possibilities and limits.

Training course with contact making elements focused on intercultural learning in youth projects between EU and EPW "Eastern partnership window" countries (Eastern Europe and Caucasus except Russia).

The priority for 2012 is cooperation between the EU and neighbouring partner countries from Eastern Europe and Caucasus (except Russia) called Eastern partnership window (EPW). This training course will help to make the EU - EPW projects easy by discovering the cooperation possibilities and focusing on the intercultural aspect of it. The potentials and possible risks will be explored and skills and knowledge will be developed to support the project leaders in designing and delivering good quality EU + EPW youth projects.

Main aims:

• To increase the number of Youth in Action projects with partners from "Eastern partnership window" countries
• To strengthen the intercultural learning aspect in projects with partners from "Eastern partnership window" countries

Objectives:

• To develop partnership between organizations from EU and EPW countries
• To understand the concept of intercultural learning and to be able to implement it to the projects
• To know the Youth in Action programme and basics of youth project management
• To share and increase the knowledge about intercultural learning within the local community of the project
• To strengthen self-confidence and understanding of personal identity in all participants

- Those who have an earnest interest and possibility within their organisation/group (green light from their hierarchy/colleagues) to set up an Eastern Partnership project after the seminar.
- Those who are able to communicate and work in English.
- Are at least 18 years old.
- Are residents of the UK or EECA countries.

Participants are expected to have a basic knowledge of the Youth in Action Programme and/or have run international youth work projects before. Participants of the Seminar will be split into 12 from the UK and 12 from all of the EECA Countries.

'Eastern Partnership Platform 4 Youth Event' | Seminar | 26-28 March 2012 | Yerevan, Armenia

The Eastern Partnership Youth Event is organized by the European Commission in cooperation with the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Republic of Armenia together with the SALTO Eastern Europe and Caucasus Resource Centre.

This regional youth event will aim to present the new opportunities offered by the Youth in Action Programme and the Eastern Partnership Youth Programme to support exchanges, cooperation and capacity-building in the youth field in the Eastern Partnership region, as well as to encourage the development of concrete project ideas.

The event will bring together up to 100 participants including youth workers, practitioners and institutional representatives from the six Eastern Partnership countries. The group will also include around 25 representatives from the Youth in Action Programme Countries who will participate in the study visit "Youth work reality in Armenia", which is organised by SALTO Eastern Europe and Caucasus Resource Centre in connection with the youth event.

Training course on non-formal educational methods focused on the involvement of young people with fewer opportunities.

Overall aim:

- To gain information and knowledge on YIA programme with special focus on A3.1 and A2 as tool of non – formal education;

- To prepare, run and evaluate creative and innovative methods on active participation, peer education, personal development and involvement of young people with fewer opportunities which can support the work of youth workers with young people with fewer opportunities;
- To create and edit a Resource Pack on useful methods of non – formal education;
- To prepare common projects as international youth exchanges, trainings and EVS according to the proposals of YIA programme;
- To meet possible partners.

Who can participate in the training course?

- Age over 18 and there is no upper age limit;

The Local Democracy Agency (LDA) Subotica is a local non-governmental organisation working to foster Human Rights and local democracy at a regional level in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina in northern Serbia. On a national level the LDA Subotica co-operates with municipalities across Serbia and maintains a closed collaboration with the LDA for Central and Southern Serbia, in Niš. On an international level the LDA Subotica stays in regular contact and profits of a systematic co-operation with its partners from the network of the Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA).
Moreover, the LDA Subotica is actively involved in youth work through hosting and sending European Voluntary Services (EVS) volunteers, animating a group of young local volunteers and organising events, training and exchanges related to youth funded by the Youth In Action programme of the European Commission.
