Just like any defense system, this one starts with easier waves and increases the level of difficulty as your stage goes on. One thing not to forget is upgrade your towers which increases both accuracy and RPM of the guns. Every wave of aliens coming from vortexes varies as different kind of aliens with different kind of attributes passes through your lair. From simpleton to heavy armored giant alien.

2? You can now even get 4 i.e. chipset on your phones. I think all of us smart phone users can say that battery life for these gadgets isn’t somehow good. I know that manufacturers are trying to address this concern by increasing the phones battery capacity.

One solution is to deliberately underclocking your phones CPU thereby reducing battery demand. Well, this could probably work if you’re not that heavy user. Thankfully, SetCPU now supports dual core devices.

Optimus 2X ICS Update

I, myself personally owns an LG P990 (popularly known as Optimus 2X). It has been a roller coaster ride hearing news from Update announcement in 2011, LG Canada making some ruckus by officially denying along other Optimus phones, ICS update, and now reconfirmation from LG Korea and LG Singapore.

I am one of those who had been itching to get the taste of ice cream sandwich on my Optimus 2X. So I had mine rooted and installed custom ROM (Self Kang). It is admittedly an incomplete ROM since it is in Beta version having some of bugs and glitches.

First of all, LG may not be the best at taking care and value customers when it comes to after sales services. Unlike LG, Samsung and HTC get their phones updated ahead other phone manufacturers. Now, customers would be thinking twice if they will buy an LG phone considering that there is a fast pace update from Google.

Still hoping for the update. (Fingers crossed)

Blackberry Devices Run Android Apps

Those Blackberry users themselves can say that they don’t have few apps to choose from. Thus, Blackberry’s RIM is jumping into the bandwagon by making their phones compatible to android apps. By this, RIM thinks they will boost their sales.

Bloomberg reports that it was started by RIM’s internal department but through the software (Alien Dalvik) by Myriad Android apps can now be run on other OS platform which in this case RIM’s QNX. A typical example would be Blackberry’s Playbook tablet but there’s no confirmation yet that for those QNX powered phones will have the same feature.

Probably the said software will be kept up to date for those apps that are intended for higher Android flavor (Ice Cream Sandwich).

Flash Player for Optimus One

At the time I bought my Optimus One, I know that the phone is not flash-capable (though its platform at launch is Froyo already). But when I was doing a whimsical searches including “flash player LG Optimus One”, there is this thread at XDA forum that there is one compatible and designed for the chipset ARM11.

Instructions:
1. Download and copy to sdcard.
2. Use a file manager and navigate to the apk, install it.
3. Reboot.

Additional notes:
* Make sure to have "unknown sources" enabled on settings > applications.

* Only works with gingerbread (to be confirmed).

I've been told it works.
Sorry if it has been posted already or if it doesn't work in which cases I'll delete thread.

Launcher 7 APK, Have a taste of Windows Phone UI on your Android

WP7 UI onto Android platform.

There will always be this day that you will just get bored with something (This is called Law of Marginal Returns). In an effort to spice things up, I’ve tried launchers on my Android and what caught my attention is Launcher 7 which really does a good job at emulating Windows Phone UI. While some of you would just want to have a taste of Windows Phone but don’t wanna leave their Android experience, this app is made for you.

Timo Kujala really did a good job at copying Windows UI with this app on Android. With the simplicity it offers, the launcher is fast and respond to my commands quickly. Let us delve up to its minute features.

Home Screen and Drawer

This app comes with a preloaded tiles (default green) – Phone, Messaging, Internet, Gmail, Music, Market, Contacts and Videos. The tiles can be made opaque with a varying level of opacity. At your preference, the application per tiles can be customized triggered by a long press. Swiping to the right (or pressing the arrow), you will have your drawer of applications alphabetically listed (can be customized back to Android drawer). If you are on a hurry and find scrolling a bit of a hassle, navigation is a breeze. Just press the search button on your device and a tiled alphabet will appear, by choosing the letter which your app starts with will bring you to the app you’re looking for. Any application can be pinned to the home screen by a long press and an option will appear as to how you want the tile look like – tile color and size, custom icon or application icon and etc. I usually use the custom icon to make it more look like WP7 thought not each of application has an available custom icon.

Widgets

If you have a widget that you wanted to keep, any widget can be accommodated to the home screen by pressing menu and Add Widget. What I don’t like in adding widgets is that they don’t fit snugly to the tile but it still serves its purpose.

Summary

Launcher 7 is perfect for persons who prefer to be minimalistic and simple, and find the stock UI as hugger mugger. Even I enjoy using the simple user interface as well as the fun using it (fooling my friends that I bought WP7). Not all features are available to every phone (e.g. Live Tiles are not available to my Optimus One). Try the free version now or the paid ad-free version.

Google Buying Motorola, Googorola or Motoogle, Which should be it?

Google is to buy Motorola Mobility for 12.5 Billion Dollars, mobile phone division. Google’s reason? To protect Android from patent attacks. How? Motorola phones existent since 1973 has 17,000 telecommunication technology patents 7,500 on the process. These will provide Google a barrier from those patent sues.

Motorola is one of those who first manufactured Android handsets. They say this will only perplex the current issues on patent wars. Understandably, Google will favor Motorola in the long run than Samsung, LG or HTC. This could be the reason why Samsung hired Steve Kondik, the founder of CyanogenMod community to have a head start in the Android innovation.

Google CEO Larry Page expresses his thoughts at the official Google blog:

“Our acquisition of Motorola will increase competition by strengthening Google’s patent portfolio, which will enable us to better protect Android from anti-competitive threats from Microsoft, Apple and other companies.

The combination of Google and Motorola will not only supercharge Android, but will also enhance competition and offer consumers accelerating innovation, greater choice, and wonderful user experiences. I am confident that these great experiences will create huge value for shareholders.

I look forward to welcoming Motorolans to our family of Googlers.”

It is expected that the next Nexus is gonna be a Motorola. I wonder how it will look like. Personally I really don’t like Moto’s designs which are flimsy to my eyes compared to other carriers which are modernized. But with Google on the watch, perhaps Moto would come up with a very good and edgy design. I guess I just have to wait for my next potential phone, probably Motorola Nexus Phone.

My Idol Steve Kondik has been Pirated by SAMSUNG

I think I must have been expecting this from Samsung’s gesture of giving free flagship phones to few people in the modding community (probably to lure them in vying offerers). Though I am using a ROM created by MIK, but Hey Steve Kondik is the founder, the starter of the MODs which I should be grateful of.

Just reckoning on how Steve reacted to Samsung’s proposal, it should have been ablaze. He is my friend on Facebook (beat that) and I really want to confirm it on his profile and there was “Software Engineer at Samsung Mobile. According to businessinsider, Steve is a proof that “you don’t need to graduate college to land a big job in tech and his reaction?

Steve Kondik is to handle those Android Related products as Samsung is not only engaged in phone business. According to an interview with him, “Samsung has nothing to do with CyanogenMod, and that should be that right?” he said. But you can’t stop people to think of bringing in the Cyanogen to Samsung mobile phones. Probably super high end phones!

Samsung is a tech giant where Steve will thrive into. Nevertheless, CyanogenMod Community will continue to serve its purpose which we loyalist are happy to know. Who knows what developments could this bring? As of the moment, I want to wish him Best of Luck and want to tell him do your best. Kudos Steve Kondik!

Google’s Crunching on Tablet’s Market Share

After triumphing phone’s arena, Google has started entering the tablet market by snatching 20 percent of it from iPad’s collective share for the past twelve months. This is according to ABI Research. Android’s tablet market share grew 10 fold in the fourth quarter, talk about booming.

Though Apple’s revenue from Apple’s products is 22.36 million more than Android’s (source: ComScore Data), Apple still is getting worried hearing about their tablet market share.

What’s more surprising is that even some of the Android tablet has been slightly priced higher than of the iPad, vendors are not having difficult time in selling them. ABI Research mobile devices group director said, “Many vendors have introduced media tablets, but none are separating themselves from the pack to pose a serious threat to Apple. In fact, most have introduced products at prices higher than similarly-configured iPads. Apple, never a company to be waiting for others, has introduced its second-generation iPad media tablet while keeping product pricing unchanged.

Offline Maps on Google Maps 5.7

Who would not want to view a map when exigencies arise anytime without the need of connection? It seems that Google listened to users request for downloadable maps. This development would be highly appreciated especially by heavy travelers.

At times where data usage is not free expensive otherwise, Google is now helping you to save those future data expense. Downloads on this new feature of the new version can extend up to 10 miles (radius) from a given location. However since it is only a saved data, routes and navigation by Google can’t be done. So this is just equivalent to using a normal map on paper. But who knows what Google is planning on improving its services and we just have to wait for further developments.

So how do we do it? Just long press a location and address will pop up. Press the arrow button and a list of option will appear. pick the "Download map area". It will only take one or two minutes for it to finish. Remember it will only capture a 10 mile radius map which the app will show by a square which is very helpful to know where to start the next download if you are going out of the country.

How to Root Gingerbread Upgraded LG Optimus One - By Downgrading to Froyo

Rooting is only applicable for those devices with Froyo version as of now. So if you had flashed the Official Gingerbread to your Optimus One, what we have to do is to downgrade your firmware back to Froyo firmware. By the way I reverted back to Cyanogen because tweaks were absent.

So here are the procedures:

1. 1. Download the Froyo KDZ version from here.

2. 2. Download LG’s firmware updater application appropriate at your PC’s OS KDZ_firmware_updater. Extract it to folder and install msxml.

3. 3. Connect your LG Optimus One and run KDZ_FW_UPD.exe Don’t turn USB Storage on your phone.

4. 4. In the software window, choose TYPE as 3GQCT and DIAG for the PhoneMode

5. 5. In the KDZ File, click on the folder button and look for the firmware you’ve downloaded in Step no. 1

6. 6. Last step Click on the Launch software update button, wait for it till it finish its job. Don’t worry if your phone flashes “Emergency mode”. Reboot. Don’t unplug USB cable till it totally boots up.

If you’re stuck on android logo screen during the first boot (which I know you will), turn off first the phone by removing the battery. Do a hard reset by holding the Volume Down+Home+Power buttons.

Then you can now root your device with Gingerbreak or z4root. Want to try Cyanogen? Follow the instructions here.

Update:

I remember what I did. You have to Disabled the LGE Virtal Modem in your PC (control panel/system properties/Hardware/Device manager/LGE Virtual Modem)

If it still doesn't work, uninstalled the ms visual c++ redistributable software coz it might interfere in the updating process and detached all other USB devices
You should enable USB Debug (it is a must).

A wholly owned subsidiary of Intel, McAfee is the Largest Security Technology Company. The proliferation of android devices, from phones to tablets, does come without any restrictions, in this case Malwares. With its openness and cybercriminals at large, androids are becoming an eye candy to them. Know what you can do to prevent these creeps from you mobile uses.

Okay, if somebody gave you an iPhone and Google bribe you with an Android device, what’s your going to be your call? I’ll present points why you should ditch your iPhone with an Android.

1. Most android devices are of higher end than the iPhone. Take for example Samsung Galaxy S2, it makes iPhone screen appears small and even a little drab, iPhones screen looks pale (Samsung Galaxy S2 Superamoled), leaves the iPhone in the dust with its dual core processor.

How to Install the Official Gingerbread to LG Optimus One

Want the official Gingerbread Firmware from LG? Get it here and learn how to install it to your phone.

Gingerbread is not yet the perfect OS (sill got bugs) hence Ice Cream Sandwich is on its way but nevertheless way lot better than Froyo. But before anything else, do a backup of your data, if your rooted use Titanium backup, if not MyBackup Pro will do. Here’s how:

Download the Gingerbread 2.3.3 version from http://www.lg-phones.org/lg-optimus-one-gingerbread-2-3-3-official-firmware-download.html
Download LG’s firmware updater application appropriate at your PC’s OS KDZ_firmware_updater. Extract it to folder and install msxml.
Connect your LG Optimus One and run KDZ_FW_UPD.exe Don’t turn USB Storage on your phone.
In the software window, choose TYPE as 3GQCT and DIAG for the PhoneMode
In the KDZ File, click on the folder button and look for the firmware you’ve downloaded in Step no. 1
Last step Click on the Launch software update button, don't unplug yet the USB Cable wait for it till it finish its job. Don’t worry if your phone flashes “Emergency mode”. Reboot.

Check on the settings your android version. You can now enjoy Gingerbread. But one drawback though you can no longer root your device once you flashed it with the official one. Another downside is that this version doesn’t support USB Storage which I know that almost Gingerbread doesn’t have. Otherwise you need to downgrade your device back to Froyo and install Cyanogenmod version instead.

Major Differences from Cyanogen:

Better handling of gallery.

Same interface from Froyo Firmware.

Does not support Tweaks in Settings.

Faster connection manager.

Above is the new look of Android Market straight from my phone. The verdict? Google made a total overhaul and made an enticing looks for the app buyers to navigate into.

It’s not long since Google has updated the android market with its movie and ebook rental. And the next BIG change is going to be at your phone. Having a newly designed interface, my android market flaunts a vibrant and vivid homepage which I really love compared to the simple white background and green motifs. One drawback though, I noticed it’s a little bit heavier on the graphics than the previous version. This design is primarily intended for the Honeycomb and the upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich.

The Featured tab content continues to change every now and then and the top feature is color coded, green for the usual ones ‘cept for the movies (red basket) and books (blue). The appl listing as shown below shows a two column list which are categorically organized on a tab basis whether its top paid, top free etc. What’s good in this is the floating bar that stays at the top whenever you scroll. Upon clicking on a single the preview pictures is easily loaded which I really appreciate being positioned on top of the description.

This update will surely be hitting your phone so to speak but for those who can’t wait, you can download the official version 3.0.27 here and manually install it.

Another thing that anyone could notice is that the panels resemble Windows Phone Home, doesn’t it?

Cyanogen is Cooking a Custom ROM to Sony Ericson Xperia Play, Neo, and Arc

The modding community is prepping its ROM designed for Xperia Play, Neo, and Arc. Ain’t that a good news for Xperia owners. Now you can enjoy the tweaks and custom visuals that Cyanogens brings.

Probably you are asking why only now? It’s because of a newly submitted code. But this is not the time to sulk on the delay. The nightly builds will be coming your way for sure.

Transitioning from iPhone to Android

When looking at an iPhone and an Android phones these days, it seems that each of its hardwares and OS looks are almost at par. But you’ll never know the differences once you get to use one of each. Aside from being a closed system, iPhone has an almost strict interface. Now that you have an Android how do you make the transition easy and painless?

Contacts, Calendars and Notes

First is to sync all of your contacts on your iPhone to your Google account. Launch iTunes, click on your iPhone’s name then Info Tab, and tick on Sync Address Book Contacts and check Sync contacts with Google Contacts. Next step is for your Calendar and Notes, on your iPhone go to Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Add again your Gmail account for it to be sync.

Upon the first time boot up of any android device it will ask for your Google account. But if you skip that part and opted to do it later, you could still add your account in Settings/Accounts and Sync/Add an Account. Then it will do the rest for you.

SMS Messages

What you can only do is to forward those that are important to you to your Gmail account. Unlike in Android you could back it up with Titanium Backup or with GoSMS.

Photos and Music

This is a Drag and drop procedure. After copying your files from your iPhone to your MAC or Windows via iTunes Launcher transfer it to your Android. Or you could also use Easy Phone Tunes or double Twist Player to sync your music from iTunes to your Android device.

Cyanogen Tweak: Clear a Single Notification in the Status Bar

I haven’t experience Gingerbread yet but I must say the stock Froyo doesn’t support the single clear notification just by swiping it. Your only actions could be either to open a notification or clear them all up. For those Cyanogen ROM’s users, you can clear a single notification just by swiping it sideways to your right.

This comes handy by when you need something to get back to those of importance notifications and leave those unwanted ones.

I just discovered this after watching the video below.
