PROLOUGE

CALCUTTA,1979

"Its only the year that matters." He could almost hear himself saying as he stared at the remains of the watch on his palm. "No one is going to mind the dates three centuries from now."

"But how could this be?" he asked himself as he stared at the almost charred dial of the watch which showed only a place for the year at display. No date. No day. Only the time and the year. The present for the future.

He pulled up his cuffs and saw a watch ofexactly the same make, and then glanced at the body of the charred man he had obtained the watch from.The police were busy with the firefighters to extinguish the almost died down fire in the building a few paces from him.

The only casualty that night had been the man, only one, among the fourty three individuals residing inthe building.

Surprisingly, as fear crept in his mind, the man seemed amazingly fimiliar. The sole watch had made the charred body special for him.

Quickly he turned over the watch.

"My GOD!!!"

His eyes widened in amazement as he saw his own initials inscribed at its back. But it wasn't the most fantastic theng that he had witnessed that night.He flipped the watch over again as if to confirm his doubt and stared listlessly at the dial.

Among the charred remains, there certainly were those dark, black printed letters on the small strip that he had designed for the year, the 'Current year' to be prompt, barely discernable.

"MY GOD!!!" he said again, not believing his eyesas he read it again.

"2020"
