The
Indonesian island of Lombok does not receive as much fanfare as its hugely
popular neighbor Bali. Nevertheless, many
Indonesians prefer vacationing in Lombok over Bali for many reasons: prices for
hotel rooms, food and attractions are often a good deal cheaper, and the
island's scenic spots are still unmolested by the gated villa developments,
cheap cocktail bars and tawdry souvenir shops that have spread across so much
of Bali. At least for now. A large international airport will be completed next
year and Indonesian tourism officials will likely be marketing Lombok as Bali version 2. So don't put off your trip — or miss any
of these five Lombok essentials.

If
you're going to Lombok to avoid Balinese-style
tourism, then why not pass up on the hotels, spas and plunge pools altogether
and opt for a homestay? There are numerous options around the island, including
farmhouses and homes in beachside and mountainside villages. Some are quite
elaborate affairs, with self-contained accommodation and differing from
standard travelers' lodges only by the presence of convivial hosts. Many offer
an introduction to fishing, farming or even hunting as practiced by the local
Sasak people, plus a firsthand look at the preparation of local foods and maybe
a chance to sit in on some craftwork or the celebration of a festival. Your
hosts will also be able to show you points of interest not found in the travel
guides. (Watch TIME's video "Indonesia's Green Gamble.")

If
you can't pass up on your little luxuries, Yuli's Homestay, yulishomestay.com,
in south Lombok is really more of a small resort (it has three comfortable
bungalows and a swimming pool), but with a personal touch and lots of local
insights supplied by a host couple from New Zealand and Indonesia. H. Radiah
Homestay, tel: (62-370) 22298, in Lendang Nangka is a more rustic experience,
offering a location smack in the middle of a Sasak village and a great base for
hiking.

Chili Pepper

Since
the word lombok means chili in Bahasa Indonesia, you'd expect the locals to
know a thing or two about spicy food. The green and red Lombok
chilies are often made into sambal — a fiery condiment — with locally grown
naga jolokia peppers, garlic and shrimp paste. Sample it as an accompaniment to
local dishes like ayam taliwang (grilled wild chicken) and sayur nangka
(jackfruit curry). (See pictures of Indonesia noodle factory.)

Lombok's
beaches are second to none and a blessed relief after Bali's
busy strips. Head for the island's southwest to really escape the crowds.
Surfers love the big waves at Bangko-Bangko (also known as Desert Point); if
its long-walled and hollow left-hand breaks sound too taxing, then try the tiny
island of Gili
Nanggu, 15 minutes by boat from the town of Tawun. There, the Gili Nanggu Cottages and
Bungalows resort, gilinanggu.com, offers a chance to laze on a pristine private
beach that encircles the island, or to go snorkeling in the beautiful reefs.

Public
transport on Lombok is unreliable. Many
visitors opt to hire a car and driver, which can be obtained at very reasonable
rates, but if you're feeling adventurous try renting a motorcycle — available
from shops all over the island. At just over 80 km at its widest point, Lombok
is easily traversable and its roads are in great condition for Indonesia — the
beneficiaries of recent infrastructural investment. The excellent 21-km coastal
stretch from Senggigi to Pemenang winds past beautiful inlets and beaches and
is an easy, exhilarating ride. Other, smaller roads meander through rugged
highlands, passing secluded waterfalls and verdant rice paddies.

5. Hot, Roasted Worms

Lombok's people are an eclectic mix of religious
and ethnic groups, with the majority being the indigenous Sasak Muslims. There
is also a sizable Hindu Balinese population, and significant numbers of Chinese
and Sasak Buddhists. All of this means a lively festival calendar. The largest
and most colorful festival is the Bau Nyale or Sea Worm Festival. Every
February at Kuta beach (that's Kuta beach, south Lombok, not to be confused
with its famous Bali namesake), the Sasak
people commemorate a mythical princess who drowned herself in these waters rather
than enter a politically vexatious marriage. The festival is timed with the
spawning of marine worms, which are eagerly caught and eaten — often after
being wrapped in banana leaf and roasted — and the celebrations last for four
days.

Sumba tradational village - West Sumba - IndonesiaI have been in Sumba island for several times, and I really like this Island, for me, Sumba Island is the most cultural destination of Lesser Sunda Islands or Nusa Tenggara Islands.

Sumba Island is one of main islands of East Nusa Tenggara. If we look at the map of East Nusa Tenggara then we can see Sumba Island on the bottom of the map or located on the south, so it is located on outside of ‘Ring of Fire’ – ring of volcanic mountains which line up from Sumatera, Java and ended at Arafuru Sea.

In the reality, there is indeed no volcanic mountain on Sumba Island. Most of Sumba Island territories are savanna, especially on the eastern part of Sumba. However, because of its hilly land contour, Sumba island offer an extremely beautiful scenery.

What’s interesting on Sumba Island

Sumba Island has so many tourism attraction either natural tourism attraction and cultural tourism attraction such as traditional villages and stone tomb, society’s belief, culture, customs, arts, handicrafts etc.

In Sumba Island, traditional villages can be seen everywhere, especially on West Sumba. Even if those villages located near a city, their existence is still well maintained, like villages around Waikabubak, capital city of West Sumba regency.

Those traditional villages generally located on top of the hills where traditional houses are lined on the right and left side of the village, while in the middle of the village there are huge stone tombs and also altar made of stone.

Traditional Sumba houses are made of wood and board, shaped like stage house with roof that made of straw and can reach the height of 10 meters.

Its megalithic stone tomb are big long rectangular tomb and some are really huge with the size 5x3 meters, even more. Funeral ceremony is a very interesting cultural attraction, where I myself saw directly dozens of people pull a stone tomb, plus its ritual procession which very impressing and unique.

Sumba also famous for its handycraft, that is Sumba “ikat” weaving which is usually bigger and wider than ordinary ikat on other east Nusa Tenggara area and also have special and unique patterns.

Varieties of native Sumba’s art are also really interesting, where Sumba culture are rich with so many type of dances, such as kataga dance – a war dance performed by 4 men and dressed in Sumba traditional costume, carrying shield made of buffalo skin on the left hand and a saber on the right hand – and many other dances.

The majority of Sumba people are Christian, either Protestan or Catholic, but most of the people are still carry on the traditional belief of their ancestors and also local rituals which passed down from generation to generation, especially on wedding and funeral ceremony and other ceremonies connected to their farming activities.

One of the very famous ritual ceremony is “Pasola”, where 2 groups of men from different villages, fight each other by throwing spears and this event usually held on a grassland or other open area. These man, which dressed in traditional costume, ride their horses and attack each other opponents by throwing their spears, which off course the spearheads had made blunt. (More about pasola will be described profoundly in a special article “Sumba’s Pasola”)

Apart from above cultural tourism, Sumba Island also have natural tourism attraction. The hilly land contour creates beautiful curves on some part of Sumba Island. Sumba is also an endemic for many species of rare birds which only available on this island and also a few other native east Nusa Tenggara birds.

Access to Sumba (How to get there)

There are two airport at Sumba Island, which is Mauhau airport at Waingapu – East Sumba and another airport at Tambolaka – West Sumba. That makes the easiest way to Sumba is by flight from Denpasar (Bali) to Waingapu or to Tambolaka at West Sumba, served by Merpati Nusantara and Trans Nusa. By the time this article was made, Merpati served Denpasar – Waingapu and Denpasar – Tambolaka three times a week. So as Trans Nusa.

For more info, you can contact the above airlines or travel agent who had experienced in arranging tours to those area: Bii Travel (www.biitravel.com)

Accommodation, restaurant, transportation and other attraction

Like other area at Nusa Tenggara in general, the tourism condition of Sumba Island is not yet developed like Bali. That is why we categorized Sumba and other Nusa Tenggara area as an adventure destination (Adventure travel).

There are not much accommodation available, most of them are lowest category hotel, but they usually clean, had private bathrooms but no hot water, some even without shower, so we have to use big basin and water dipper. These days, there are many hotels showed up as boutique hotel that have international standard like boutique hotel in Bali or other area. The price off course is much more expensive and paid in dollar like other hotels in Bali. These kind of hotels all located on West Sumba.

Restaurant There are not many restaurant available. Hotels usually have their own restaurant and only few restaurants located outside hotels. Generally, those restaurants serving Chinese food and mix Indonesian food.

There are no special transportation for tourist, generally using private cars such as Kijang, Panther and APV. While for groups, available public buses, which off course does not equipped with air conditioner and microphone. Roads Quite good especially the main roads, even though some also damaged which caused by lack of maintenance. While roads on villages mostly are not asphalted yet.

I hope that my article can be use full and enriched our insight about Sumba Island as one of interesting destination in Indonesia

Gunung Leuser National Park

The bus driver dropped me off at the wrong guest house, but it didn't matter. As soon as I met Ahmed I was at ease. He has those kind eyes that you know can be trusted. Ketambe is a great base for trekking into the park, offering a serene alternative to the tout shakedown at Bukit Lawang. Rates there have soared to $80 a day in the last 6 months.

I linked up with a lovely Australian couple, Paul and Gemma, and decided to trek with them the following morning. With 3 it worked out to $30 a day. www.ketambe.com if you are ever on Sumatra, you must check this place out.

Eden and Aris were our guides and we set out around 9 the next morning. We walked up the road a kilometer and then took a trail into the forest by an old, forgotten mosque. Even this close to the road the forest was lush, but already quiet apart from the cicadas and distant bird calls. The first wildlife we saw was the long tailed macaques, swinging around in the canopy above us. One square kilometer of rainforest here can have over 100 species of trees alone. Gunung Leuser is rightly famous for some the rarities it holds including, Sumatran tiger, rhino and elephants. Our target species was the critically endangered orangutan which I have wanted to see for a long time. After only about 2 hours of walking we stopped for lunch and the guides set up camp. It was a great spot by the river with a rock to jump off into the rushing stream. In the afternoon we went out for a hike and saw the highly acrobatic Thomas's leaf monkey. They can make huge leaps from branch to branch. We also heard our 1st hornbill and began following it off the trail. After about an hour I was pretty certain we were lost. This hunch was soon affirmed as Eden began cutting a trail straight through the undergrowth. All I could think about was the cool river waiting back at camp. Then I recognized some the same trees and had to call Eden on it. He could still point in the right direction of camp but the terrain was making it hard to get back down to the river. Paul began leading the way and we were soon enough on a main trail and navigated our way back to camp without too much trouble. I was a little frustrated with the lack of birds and sat by the river as the sunlight faded. Then a magnificent sight came in the form of a pair of rhinoceros hornbills. They are 127cm long, but their central tail feathers extend another 50cm! Hornbills are an old word tropics bird with amazing bills.

On the 2nd day we hiked in further upstream. Awaiting us were some of the best hot springs I have ever seen. The jungle came down to the river on both sides and the hot springs were spread along 25 meters of the stream. Simply incredible. In fact this was suppose to be our last night, but we decided to just go out for a night and come straight back to the springs for another night. The next morning we hiked up to a fruiting fig tree, which we thought might attract the orangutans. We were greeted with noisy calls from the hornbills which were all over it. No orangutans, so we decided to hike

Steamy Hot Springs on up the hillside. Gemma spotted a big black shape high in the canopy. We moved around till we got a good look at a Sun Bear! These small, shy bears are nocturnal and relatively little is known about them. So after going out and resupplying we spent our final night in the rainforest. We had another lovely meal and watched fireflies flicker above us in the trees. The next morning myself, Paul and our new guide Herman got an early start hiking up the steep slope behind our camp. We hadn't gone 300 meters when Herman was excitedly motioning us forward. He had spotted a mother orangutan with a 2 year old baby! They were foraging mid-way up the canopy. We moved in for a closer look. The mother detected us and started some aggressive behavior including shaking the branches around her and tearing some off and throwing them at us! We gave it about 10 minutes and then left them alone. That afternoon we hiked out in the highest spirits and celebrated with a b.b.q. and beers back at the guesthouse.

Gunung Leuser National Park, Sumatra IndonesiaI rolled into the small village of Ketambe after a 9 hour windy, bone rattling bus ride from Takengon.

Jungle - Gunung Leuser National ParkThe first wildlife we saw was the long tailed macaques, swinging around in the canopy above us.

We also heard our 1st hornbill and began following it off the trail. with science. To this dikirimlah C.Th.Elout, AA Boykens and
GAGP Baron Van der Capellen, to Indonesia and Dr. Casper
                    George Carl Reinwardt as advisors.
Flight to LabuanbajoThis is the first day of my trip - Komodo Dragon Wildlife Adventure, we take flight from Denpasar, Bali to Labuanbajo in Flores Island, continue by boat to Rinca Island of Komodo National Park, and return to Labuanbajo to stay at Hotel Bintang Flores – Labuanbajo.

We were already at Ngurah Rai Airport at 9.30 a.m. While waiting for our friend who still on check in process, we had breakfast in one of small stall behind KFC.

In this stall, you can find rice wrapped in banana leaves, selections of cakes, breads, beverages including tea and coffee and the most important part of this stall is its price that considered low enough for person with just “in tight budget” like me... he... he... he...

Then our friend came over and distribute boarding pass. We moved on to the waiting room and paid for airport tax Rp. 30.000 before. Not for long, we heard our boarding announcement at 10.30 and we go straight away to Gate 17.

Labuanbajo - West Flores IslandWe flew with Riau Airlines. This plane is double propeller aircraft with 45 seat passenger capacity. Its seat line formation is two at the left and two at the right.

The plane took off smoothly and right on time at 10.40 a.m. The journey also very smooth and calm, hardly any shake. I also saw Tanjung Benoa view. We usually can see Mount Agung and Rinjani top from above, but this time it was covered by clouds...

After more than an hour, I felt that the plane going down slowly and I think that we will reach land within minutes. I saw many small island around and we flew past Komodo island...

A few minutes later we landed safely at Komodo Airport – Labuhanbajo...Yes, the airport name is Komodo, but we landed on Flores Island instead of Komodo Island…

We directly went to Bintang Flores Hotel, the place where we will spend our night for the next 2 nights. To reach this hotel from the airport only take about 15 – 20 minutes...On the way I saw that the streets has been widened and many office building is being built. This area development is very rapid.

Bintang Flores Hotel - Labuanbajo, Flores IslandBintang Flores Hotel is the only 4 star hotel in this area and I think the only one in Flores, so it is a very extraordinary hotel for this area. Once we get in, we saw a well maintained area... an international hotel area... new and good hotel building... I guess it was 6 storey building. Lobby at the second floor, coffee shop at the ground floor. All rooms were facing the sea... wonderful view... More about Hotel Bintang Flores will be presented on different article (BINTANG FLORES HOTEL REVIEWS).

After put our luggage and a bit refreshment on the room, we were heading straight to Labuanbajo harbor. we have to go trough one way street, to reach the harbor, our car have to climb trough a hill behind the town so we had a chance to took pictures of Labuanbajo harbor with sea and small island as the background from top of the hill... What a magnificent view...

Labuanbajo Harbor - Flores IslandLess than 15 minutes we reached the dock and stepped up to the boat or wooden boat. This boat is clean, its length around 12 meter and width 3 meters, big enough for seven of us plus 2 boat crew makes total of 9 person. This boat equipped with a clean toilet, a kitchen, two long pillowed wooden bench that makes our long journey comfortable.

We moved leaving Labuhanbajo dock while taking pictures. The sea were calm, with only small ripples, unlike what we were afraid of. It seem just like boating on a lake or river. The weather also very sunny and bright, but luckily wind flows generously.

After a while, came a boat crew, serving our lunch that consist of rice, flour coated calamari, cap cay, fried noodle, sour sweet fish... And it was so yummy, especially the flour coated calamari. Or is it maybe because we were extremely hungry, it was almost 1.30 a.m.

Loh Buaya, a dock at Rinca Island - Komodo National ParkWe passed a boat with few foreigners and according to our friend, they also will go to Rinca. We wave our hand... and we passed them by.

In a few hours we arrive at Loh Buaya, a bay at Rinca Island where we can find wooden dock place for boats to stop. There was already 5 boats ahead of us. So we get closer to one of those boats and we jump from one boat to another.
Afterward we walked trough the dock. Just after we passed the gate, we saw a komodo, not so big, maybe around 1 meter. My friend were very enthusiastic, no wonder because this is their first trip here. Noisily, they took pictures of komodo which caused those komodo running away of fright...

We keep on walking for another 300 – 400 meter to PHPA office to get entrance fee. The entrance fee quite expensive. Rp 75.000 for local and Rp. 150.000 for foreigner. (Remember to carry money, unless you want to be deported he.. he... he...)

Komodo Dragons at Rinca IslandThen we were introduced to a ranger who will accompany us exploring this place. Just after we gather around to have short briefing by the ranger, we saw a komodo approach us, not very big, probably 1 meter, just like the one we saw at the dock. Then we also saw another one near the cafeteria… took pictures, and another short briefing.

We continued our journey... Then we saw one big komodo... Two big komodo... And few smaller komodo... It might be 6 – 7 komodo... Wow amazing...

The ranger poke one of the big komodo with stick to wake it up, and the disturbed komodo start to swash its tail. Its tail swash is very hard, it can knock you of the ground with just one swash. The komodo start to move, woke up slowly and lolling its yellow and branched, snakelike tongue.

Komodo nesrby its nest at Rinca IslandFinished with taking pictures, we continue the journey. Then we saw heaps of soil decorated with holes. Above the heaps, lie a komodo. The ranger told us that this is komodo nest, where komodo lay its eggs in one of those holes. The other holes are empty and only served as camouflage.

Not for long, then we saw a bird as big as a chicken and has a pair of red legs. It was maleo bird which also called as megapod. We move forward, but did not see any komodo existence, instead we saw another bird species.

Return to ranger station and those komodo still hanging around there… waiting for another photo shot maybe... ha... ha... Then we heading to cafeteria to have rest then return to dock to get on boat that will take us to Labuanbajo.
We have seen enough komodo today on Rinca Island, so we think it is enough and we don’t have to go to Komodo Island that will only waste our time.

In the middle of our journey, the tide is higher and we were a bit shaken for 30 – 40 minutes, then things get calmer when we enter Labuanbajo bay. Return to Hotel Bintang Flores.

Komodo DragonFinished bathing, we went outside Labuanbajo to have diner. We heading to a simple restaurant, located at small hill slope. It took a while before the foods are ready to be served. Maybe next time we should order it first then return here, in order to save the waiting time. The food itself is not very bad, or is it because we are starving... Return to hotel and have rest.

We’re on a boat! (with dragons and crystal meth) - Komodo Islands

On the Way to Komodo Island - Komodo National ParkIn order to go see the dragons out on the Komodo islands, our only realistic option was a four day boat cruise. I think we were all a bit wary about being on a relatively small boat out on the open ocean for four days, but in the end we figured the ends justified the means. I mean, dragons, we were going to see dragons. Enormous lizards that hunt and eat water buffalo. Nine feet long, over 200 pounds.

Our first day on the boat did little to reassure us that it our decision to go was the right one. We cruised along in our little modified fishing boat pitching and rolling massively for five hours. No one got sick but we were definitely clutching at the railings to prevent ourselves from flopping all over the deck.

We stopped for a few hours for some dinner and star gazing after which the whole lot of us (15 tourists in all) laid down side by side on the top deck to get some sleep. What seemed like only a few hours later, at 2 AM, our exceedingly noisy diesel engine was fired back up and we were black out on the ocean being tossed around at the seas will.

After a day of snorkeling (we saw hundreds of little squids, an eery eel garden, a turtle and a lobster) and hiking, we set out on what would be the longest non stop sailing portion of the trip; seventeen hours. As luck would have it, we ran into a storm during the night.

Sam and I, who had mistakenly chosen to sleep with our bodies in line with the boats forward motion instead of perpendicular, spent the better part of the night bracing ourselves from rolling all over the place. Anytime we might have slipped into the faintest of sleeps our bodies would slide and roll to the other side of the boat.

Komodo Dragons at Komodo Island, The Komodo National ParkSam had to apologize about four times for having steamrolled the poor Spanish couple sleeping next to him. Im not going to lie, in my delirious state of sleep deprivation I had figured there was about a 20% chance that we would capsize and I ran through our options if we did. In retrospect, there probably wasn any chance of actually capsizing, but it certainly felt that way.

By our third day, after some more hiking and snorkeling, we had finally arrived at Komodo Island, one of the two islands the dragons live on. A ranger lead us on a walk through the National park and 10 minutes into it he spotted a full grown male waltzing along through the brush. We followed it cautiously through the thickets until he finally came to stop.

We gathered round, timidly snapping photos and admiring him as he looked right back at us. He eventually got a bit scared and scuttled off, but our ranger was intent on getting a better view and so we started to follow him some more.

We were walking single file, with me somewhere in the middle and Sam in Caitlin right in the front. The dragon mustve decide that he was sick of us following him, because he turned and charged right at Sam and Caitlin, who hid behind some pitifully small saplings.

The ranger reached out and slammed a long stick in the dragons path causing him to veer off course just enough. The dragon continued to run at a solid clip, bulldozing through the thickets while we stood stunned and a little too nervous to say anything until dragon was well out of view. We ended up seeing plenty more dragons that day and the next, all of which paid us far less attention.

Komodo IslandOn our last day, I think we were all thankful that we would be getting off the boat. Especially because the night before I had walked by the Captains room and seen our guide smoking something funny out of a homemade pipe. He didn seem particularly shy about it and happily confided to Sam and I in his broken english that he was smoking sabu sabu.

He didn know the word in English but said, "Its like crystals, it makes you happy and awake." I had assumed it was crystal meth he was talking about, and we confirmed this later when we looked up sabu sabu on the internet. Other than the fact that he was occasionally high on speed, our guide Oddy was a friendly guy, a little strange, but nice. He never steered the boat.

Just one more little anecdote. We sprung for a flight to leave Flores and get us going to our next destination. The airport was small, as could be expected. When we checked in, we did the usual, handed over our tickets and weighed our bags. But after the bags were weighed, they pointed to Caitlin and directed her to stand on the scale. We thought it was a joke, but with genuine sincerity they insisted she step on the scale. After they made a note and announced her weight to the surrounding crowd, Sam and I were weighed. That was new.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://azicha-travelling.blogspot.com/2012/05/were-on-boat-with-dragons-and-crystal.html' title='We’re on a boat! waterfall is actually situated in conservation areas Anai
Valley, Tanah Datar, West Sumatra. In the vicinity of the
waterfall there are monkeys on the loose. Waterfall with a
height of approximately 60 meters is a remarkable sight.
During the holidays, this waterfall is visited by hundreds
of visitors. Photo: Between / Iggoy el Fitra
Moramo
The uniqueness of this waterfall is the rate-level.
Waterfalls Konawe Moramo located in South, Southeast
Sulawesi. There is a count of seven levels, there is a count
10 levels. Less is more, the water will fall in a row from a
height of 100 meters. That said, the waterfall is located in
Tanjung Peropa forest nature reserve is also famous for the
legend of the nymph bathing. Photo: Between / Psalms Karuru
Resun
Resun waterfall is located in Daik, Linga District, Riau
Islands. The water comes from rivers that irrigate the Mount
Daik and visited by many local tourists during holidays.
Daik Mountain Regions (1165 masl) with three branches could
also be a climbing destination. Besides Mount Resun Daik and
waterfalls, there are also baths Muhazam Sultan Mahmud
Shah's daughter, Stone Pig and Crocodile Rock (because
similar shaped like a pig and crocodile), Batu Belah, baths

                    Stone Bridge
Stone Bridge waterfall is located in North Halmahera, North
Maluku. Actually, this waterfall is not too high, only about
10 meters. But the special is - as its name implies -
bebatuannya shaped like a natural stone bridge. In addition,
there is another mini waterfall that allows activities like

15 meter high waterfall with a width of 20 meters provides a
large area for visitors to enjoy the cool water flow. In the
vicinity of the waterfall, there is a basin-basin of the
river commonly utilized visitors as a place to swim. Besides
enjoying the beauty of waterfalls, National Park visitor
Bantimurung, Maros, South Sulawesi, also can visit the
famous cave with stalactites Dream nodes. Bantimurung also
known as the "Kingdom of Butterflies" because this park is
the habitat for thousands of butterflies

Today,
I am very glad to inform you one of interesting place to visit in Bali
called traditional village of Penglipuran. This village can be reached
throught roads connecting district of Bangli with Kintamani. Penglipuran
villlage is well-known for its 75 hectare bamboo forest located in the
northern part of the village. From Bangli town to the north up to Kubu
Village about 5 kilometers, then have a left turn, one will arrive at
Penglipuran and will be received with warm welcome by the villagers. The
air is fresh because it is located at 700 meters above sea level. From
historical point of view, according to the village elders,

Penglipuran village is well-known for its tidy row of traditional
Balinese entrance gates and its unique architectural traditions. The
words Penglipuran’ is drived from the words “Pengeling Pura” means a
holy place for remembering their ancestors. It is reasonable since their
ancestors came from Bayung Gede village, still In Kintamani district.
Since from Bayung Gede to Penglipuran is quite along distance there fore
the people of Penglipuran, established the same temple as the temple In
Bayung Gede.

We can drow conclusion from this matter that the people of
Penglipuran is still remembering their origin. Another opinion stated
that Penglipuran is derived from the word “Penglipuran” means relaxation
since on the royal period this place was a good spot for resting
place. This village has cultural potency which is up to the present time
still well preserved in the from of traditional Balinese buildings;
which differentiate this village from others. The population is 743
person, most of them are farmers and just few as civil servants. Dances
and handicrafts are well developed in this remote village.

Members of the “Desa Adat” village institution have played a
consistent role from generation to generation in this preservation since
they have a strong commitment to the system of “ayahan desa” - a
philosophy committed to respecting the land on which the village stands.
A portion of the “desa adat” are known as “krama pengarep”, or
privileged members. Each of them is given an eight-acre house yard,
40-acres of agricultural land, 70-acres of bamboo forest, 60-acres of
riverside irrigation, and 25-acres of rice field.

I hope above story will add your reference before visiting our
beautiful Island of Bali. If you wish you can share this story to your
family, friends and your collegues. Thank you for reading my story.
