Liquid air 'offers energy storage hope'

2012-10-05T17:18:00.003-07:00

I hope this article stays around for a while. If it goes away the core concept is to take energy produced by solar, wind or other and freeze air during off peak times. When energy is needed the air can be warmed to spin turbines.

Very logical and cool - 70% efficiency too.

BYKA Launched In Ghana

2012-08-25T14:45:00.004-07:00

The town of Assin Fosu in Ghana is now home to BYKA-Ghana, a small startup bicycle assembly and repair company focused on giving youth an opportunity for work, education and career opportunities. The EWAY Foundation has provided the initial bikes that will be used to train and promote the service.

The local farmers and students will benefit because they will be able to reduce the many hours they currently walk to work or school.

Unlike other programs this is not a charity for each person has to purchase the bikes. Financial assistance is given by those businesses supporting the program and the plan is to also support a local NGO “Dolly Foundation” which helps fund government medical insurance for children.

BYKA will be launched in several African countries with programs being planned in Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Liberia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and possible programs in Uganda.

Bicycles are assembled in country with plans to introduce manufacturing for specific add on features.

Those businesses or groups wishing to support the start up can contact the “Dolly Foundation” directly at dollylove201060@yahoo.com – or visit their website at http://dollyfoundationghana.webs.com/

Ghana - Youth Program Started - Helps Community

2012-08-15T15:00:00.000-07:00

In August 2012 a Ghana NGO was engaged to help with the launching of a Bicycle Assembly and Repair company that will provide training, jobs, and support for those who spend many hours each day walking to school of work.

The EWAY Foundation has provided initial support by purchasing 4 bikes that will used to train and promote the concept. Near by businesses are helping transport the bikes from Accra to the shop which has been donated by the Dolly Foundation - a NGO in Ghana that raises funds to pay for childrens medical insurance.

As time progresses the company will provide further training on motorcycles and welding plus business skills.

The intent is to make the business self supporting after some intial capitial is gathered.

Buy Moringa For Your Health & Help The Poor

2012-07-13T17:02:00.003-07:00

Moringa is a wonderful food that is often described as the "Miracle" Tree for its properties such as being an Antioxidant, Anti Inflammatory, and energy booster.

Moringa Oleifera is a tree that is originally native to India but is now found in many countries such as Sierra Leone and the Philippines. In Africa many have been using Moringa Oleifera to treat and manage the symptoms of diabetes for years and it is even fed to animals.

Join me in buying 100% direct from the growers and sellers from Sierra Leone – not only will you benefit greatly but you will also provide direct financial support to one of the poorest countries in Africa.

Imports from Sierra Leone are not taxed in most countries simply because they recognize the need to help the country rebuild.

Provide your support by becoming an importer for yourself and friends. Please contact me and I will send you links showing the work being done and information on the tree.

The following is from a good friend of mine helping in out in Sierra Leone.

MORINGA SCIENTIFIC STUDIES/PROOF

They say when in the African forest a traditional healer dies, an encyclopedia of secrets gets lost. It is common knowledge that people who know secrets are not very fond to share it with others because then they cannot longer enjoy the advantages of this knowledge.

Basically what counts for the African traditional healers also counts for pharmaceutical companies who analyze plants and trees to find magic power enabling them to protect with expensive patents. These companies as well as the cosmetic industry start to discover Moringa and some scientific institutions already started some thorough research on the medicinal effects of Moringa. Find a brief summary below in the coming weeks:

Alzheimer Disease
University of Calcutta: it can be concluded that Moringa Oleifera leaves may give protection against this devastating disease like Alzheimer's.

Antioxidants
Sreelatha, S. Padma, P. R.: The successive aqueous extract of Moringa Oleifera exhibited strong scavenging effect on 2, 2-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) free radical, superoxide, nitric oxide radical and inhibition of lipid per oxidation.

Asthma
College of Pharmacy, Ahmedabad: MORINGA Oleifera treatment demonstrates protection against acetylcholine-induced bronchoconstriction and airway inflammation and possesses an antiasthmatic property through modulation of the relationship between Th1/Th2 cytokine imbalances.

Bacteria
The aqueous extracts of soursop showed an antibacterial effect against S. aureus and V. cholerae, but the antibacterial activity by the ethanol extracts of this plant was not demonstrated.

Blood Platelets
The aqueous extract of Moringa oleifera leaves significantly (p Moringa oleifera leaves against human platelet aggregation. Overall, Moringa oleifera leaves have potential to protect platelets against aggregation.

Blood Pressure
University of Karachi: Isothiocyanate 4 and the thiocarbamate glycosides niaziminin A and B showed hypotensive activity

Cancer
John Hopkins School of Medicine: we examined compounds [1] and [2] for their cancer preventive potential (39). Recently, [1] and the related compound [3] were shown to be potent inhibitors of phorbol ester (TPA)-induced Epstein-Barr virus early antigen activation in lymphoblastoid (Burkitt’s lymphoma) cells (57,104).

National University of Singapore: it indicates that M. oleifera leaf extracts has potential for cancer chemoprevention and can be claimed as a therapeutic target for cancer.

Encyclopedia of Natural Health Olypeptides: Uses of MO vary, but may include; Enhancing Immune Function, and Reducing Inflammation and are non-FDA reviewed or approved, natural alternatives, to use for Cancers, and Breast Cancer.

SOPA Is One More Reason To Be Careful With Cloud Computing & Go Local

2012-01-29T13:32:00.001-08:00

Cloud Computing is the latest attempt to funnel the consumer into a controlled environment where by continual fees can be charged and Piracy is no longer an issue. Everyone seems to win except for those with little money but the open systems help there. With SOPA maybe it is time to think about protecting local businesses from being side swiped by politicians.

What is of more concern though is the blind acceptance that Cloud Computing is a good thing. Services themselves are the way of the future and hopefully we will not go back but combining this with the consolidation of data and functionality is very dangerous if you do not understand the ramifications.

Here are some of the risks.

1. Reliability – even though companies tout their backups and economies of scale (which is true) the fact remains if the firm fails for any reason, financial, cyber attack etc your ability to function is compromised and unless you have a business continuity plan that takes this into account you could be out of business.

a. Cloud groups are bigger targets – anyone wanting to cause damage can certainly affect more people.

b. Do you ever really understand the firm’s financial stability – you know your own.

2. Uniformity also comes with compromise – software may not have the same level of features that you need and the commonness provides economies of scale for the intruder.

3. American Law as shown by SOPA is a huge risk to your privacy. If you use a service hosted by an American firm they follow US law which can and will impact you. You also have to be careful that you are not breaking local laws by using these services.

4. Audit and Recovery. Using these services will tend to shift responsibility to others and the out of sight out of mind adage kicks in. If you use these services do you really have the ability to restore information to a level that an auditor would want or for your own research?

5. Many of us use email systems such as Yahoo and Gmail in which we depend on these firms to keep our mail private even though we know that any government can access the information if they want to. With Cloud computing you have now just handed over your entire business.

With these risks comes opportunity – opportunity to offer localized services that promote the fact that local laws are followed and that data does not leave a country. Industry specific services provide even more value add with more of the revenue staying in country.

Hackers Launch Own Internet Network to Beat Censorship

2012-01-04T13:38:00.000-08:00

These guys are trying to take back the Internet.
http://bitcyber.wordpress.com/2012/01/04/hackers-launching-own-satellites-in-orbit-to-beat-censorship/
They are starting off slow but the applications are interesting and you may want to get involved.

One application could be to place at least two devices at every refugee camp in the world – this would provide real time information on the physical size of the camp and hopefully remind us that these camps have not magically gone away.

These camps could be highlighted while helping science for very little cost – Groups such as the Red Cross, Charities etc could maybe promote their cause on GPS maps and information web sites.

Free Light From Plastic Bottles

2011-12-19T20:58:00.000-08:00

Please watch the following video showing how plastic bottles can be used to light up homes.

http://wimp.com/lightenup/

It is so simple!

I am trying to set up a project funded by Kickstarter.com to do the following:
1. Promote the spread of this approach on the internet and provide video and pictures of each of the locations.

2. Document the energy saved.

3. Create training material and a knowledge base in more than one language.

4. Create a centralized database of people who want to become installers, or currently install with the ability to text requests.

How To Save On Energy Bills

2011-04-17T13:11:00.000-07:00

Save up to 75% of your business energy bill by using our PU-1 system which captures wasted energy. Most suited for businesses that:

1. Use a generator a few times a month or 100% (huge savings).

2. Operate in areas with frequent blackouts.

3. Use lots of motors (air conditioners, fans, fridges, equipment).

4. Use mostly fluorescent lighting.

The PU-1 connects to and optimizes any power source (Solar, Grid, Generator, Wind).

Want To Save A Lot Of Money On Diesel Or Electricity Charges
The PU-1 Energy Regeneration and Storage system that can save you 50 to 75% of your diesel generator energy costs. I have attached more detailed documentation but in summary the PU-1 stores the energy wasted by the generator and captures the inductive load created by motors (fridges, air conditioners etc). The PU-1 is extremely efficient in releasing the stored energy with zero usage if zero demand, thus in some cases a generator that normally runs for 24hrs a day needs only to run 4hrs a day with the PU-1.

Possible areas of benefit:

1. Reduce amount of diesel consumed

a. Less fuel emissions

b. Less transport costs

c. Increased generator life span

2. Real time monitoring of power consumed

3. Reduces the number of solar panels needed by 50%

4. Improves wind performance by stepping in between the turbine and the grid.

5. Full power UPS for 16 to 24hrs depending on devices connected and configuration.

6. Extend the life of emergency back up systems.

7. Remove the need for intermittent generator use ( areas with frequent short lived blackouts).

8. Reduce noise.

9. Get real time data on energy consumption and storage.

How Does It Work?
Popular power factor correctors generally just turns negative energy (var) into heat. The PU1 system regenerates the var into usable energy.

The PU1 can power all your devices included high powered machinery, devices and air conditioners.

Enjoy a consistent power supply that protects appliances and sensitive, high value equipment from fluctuating power supply and power surges.

Proprietary Converter and Battery Monitoring System with automatic programmable charging from a variety of power sources. Fully automatic battery charging and switching of power source.

Savings and Payback
Unlike many alternate energy systems that take 10, 15 or more years to pay back we like to ensure that our payback models are in the 14 to 30 month time frame.

Payback time depends on your business and we can provide estimated payback time after we understand your energy demands. Once installed additional options can be attached to the metering system to save even more energy.

In many cases it is profitable to finance the PU-1 for the savings are far greater than the monthly finance charges. For example a 3,000/mth energy bill being reduced to 810 dollars leaving 2,190 for payments. Payback periods fluctuate per client with 14 to 22 months being the range and for those that currently only have emergency generator systems. In frequent blackout areas the payback period can be as little as one month.

Maximum Voltage Variation 5.00%
Maximum Frequency Variation 0.01%
Reactive Energy Recovery > 90%
Efficiency with Load Connected > 97%
Diesel Generator Fuel Savings > 60%
No Load Consumption of the Power Unit 0 W
Consumption of the System's Electronics < 2 W
System Output Waveform WS 10
