Synopsis: The dead don’t tell secrets… unless you listen.

The girl’s smashed-in face stared unseeing up to the blue sky, soil spilling out of her mouth. A hundred flies hovered above the bloodied mess. Westerley research facility is not for the faint-hearted. A ‘body farm’ investigating human decomposition, its inhabitants are corpses in various states of decay. But when Detective Kim Stone and her team discover the fresh body of a young woman, it seems a killer has discovered the perfect cover to bury their crime.

Then a second girl is attacked and left for dead, her body drugged and mouth filled with soil. It’s clear to Stone and the team that a serial killer is at work – but just how many bodies will they uncover? And who is next? As local reporter, Tracy Frost, disappears, the stakes are raised. The past seems to hold the key to the killer’s secrets – but can Kim uncover the truth before a twisted, damaged mind claims another victim …?

Review: I really like the author’s novels and I couldn’t wait to discover this one.

Kim Stone is in charge of a new case in a place like no other: a place where they study the decomposition of corpses in different environments. Yes, it’s quite intriguing, but what’s even more intriguing is that a corpse, a murdered woman, has just been discovered, and no one knows how she got there. But when it happens again, Kim is even more determined to find out what happened.

I really liked the setting of the investigation, very different from what we usually find, and I was really curious to know the identity and motive of the killer. This time, I didn’t see it coming at all! The story is much more complex than you might think! And of course, it’s a treat to follow the investigation with Kim Stone’s entire team.

A good read!

Kim Stone, Tome 4

Synopsis: Your dad’s not a good person. Your dad killed people, son.

These are some of the last words Jack Givins’ father spoke to him before he was whisked away by witness protection, leaving Jack and his mother to pick up the shattered pieces of their lives as best they could.

Years later, Jack is a grown man with problems of his own. He’s a talented but struggling author, barely scraping by on the royalties from his moderately successful first book. So when the U.S. Marshals approach him with a lucrative opportunity, he’s in no position to turn them down. They’re recruiting writers like Jack to create false histories for people in witness protection–people like Jack’s father.

The coincidence is astonishing to Jack at first, but he soon realizes this may be a chance to find his dad. Only there’s one problem–Jack’s father hasn’t made contact with his handlers recently, and they have no idea where he is. He could be in serious danger, and Jack may be the only one who can find him.

But how will he find a man he’s never truly known? A man who has done terrible things in his lifetime and made some deadly enemies in the process–enemies who wouldn’t think twice about using his own son against him.

Review: I really like Linwood Barclay’s novels, so I was very curious to discover this one.

Jack saw his father leave when he was younger. But he didn’t just leave his mother, he got caught up in the witness protection program and his wife refused to go with him. Jack is now an adult, yet this story still haunts him. A writer of little-known novels, he’s trying to find work and wasn’t expecting the offer he was about to receive: to create a past for people in the witness protection program. Only one thing: he’s not allowed to talk about it. Jack sees this as an opportunity to ask for a reunion with his father, whom he hasn’t seen for a long time.

I had a really good time with the novel and was quite curious to find out all about his father: what he had done, what had become of him… As for Jack and the plot, I knew very quickly what it was all about, so I wasn’t surprised. I still had a great time with the characters and I particularly liked his partner Lana.

This was a great novel of revenge and redemption that I really enjoyed!

Synopsis: Former basketball star Myron Bolitar has barely restarted his agency for sports stars and celebrities when two federal agents walk into his office, asking for answers. Assuming they want to talk about the highly publicized Callister murders—of which he and Win know nothing, other than what’s been saturating the news lately—he’s stunned when, instead, they demand to know where Greg Downing is.

Greg, a former NBA player-turned-beloved-coach, was an old client of Myron’s, one of his very first. The reason for Myron’s surprise is simple: Greg Downing died three years ago.

But according to these federal agents, Greg is still alive—and somehow involved in the Callister case.

Before his death, Greg made some strange money moves, but nothing about his reappearance makes any sense. As Myron and Win investigate, they’re also surprised to uncover a seemingly related case where someone was murdered. Then another. And another. Is Greg alive? And if he is, where is he? And ultimately, are they looking for Greg? Or are they looking for a dangerously clever serial killer?

Review: It’s been a long time since I’ve read a Harlan Coben novel, and I couldn’t wait to discover this story.

Greg Downing died a few years ago. So how could his DNA have been found at a crime scene, under the victim’s fingernails? That’s the question that haunts Myron, Greg’s former agent and friend. Determined to find out what happened, and if Greg is still alive, our protagonist will investigate and discover an incredible story, far more complex than he thought. But that’s not all, because Myron is also going to expose himself to grave dangers, because this story is completely beyond him.

This was a very interesting novel that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. I was curious to find out what had happened to Greg, and I have to say I was surprised because I wasn’t expecting it. The author pushes his characters around and the ending surprised me.

It was a good read.

Synopsis: It’s Christmas and a serial killer is leaving displayed body parts all over Cumbria. A strange message is left at each #BSC6

Called in to investigate, the National Crime Agency’s Washington Poe and Tilly Bradshaw are faced with a case that makes no sense. Why were some victims anaesthetized, while others died in appalling agony? Why is their only suspect denying what they can irrefutably prove but admitting to things they weren’t even aware of? And why did the victims all take the same two weeks off work three years earlier?

And when a disgraced FBI agent gets in touch things take an even darker turn. Because she doesn’t think Poe is dealing with a serial killer at all; she thinks he’s dealing with someone far, far worse – a man who calls himself the Curator.

And nothing will ever be the same again . . .

Review: I love this series and couldn’t wait to discover this third opus.

Poe finds herself embroiled in a new investigation that will prove far from straightforward. Severed fingers have been found, but not bodies. Tilly, Flynn and Poe will have to use all their knowledge to unravel this complex story. But why? Because the culprit is a genius who manipulates and pulls strings in the shadows. And if the clues are hard to figure out, it could all be a decoy.

I had a great time with this novel. The author easily takes us in different directions, surprising us each time before coming up with a twist that changes everything.

I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to spoil anything, but I loved the novel, I was surprised several times and I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

Synopsis: In a backstreet club, people dance the night away to their favourite band. But behind the scenes there is trouble afoot. An argument is brewing between bandmembers, two possessive girlfriends have plans for their partners, the club manager is creaming off profits – and a tragic accident leaves the lead singer dead.

But was it an accident at all? Coroner Clement Ryder is suspicious, and WPC Trudy Loveday knows there’s only one thing for it. She’s going undercover, deep into the seedy underbelly of Oxford nightlife.

Meanwhile Clement’s own secret is becoming increasingly difficult to keep hidden, and discovering the singer’s murderer might not be the only shock in store for Trudy…

Review: I’m always eager to find out more about the adventures of our dear Trudy, and even more so now that Ryder’s son has entered the picture.

A young musician has died. The trial is over and they’ve decided his death was accidental. However, Clement Ryder doesn’t believe it and manages to reopen the investigation to find out what really happened with his young friend Trudy. Trudy has to infiltrate a club to unravel the truth, with the help of Vincent Ryder.

This duo is very touching, and I couldn’t wait to see how they would solve the case. I was carried along by the novel and the investigation. I was curious to understand what had happened, and the author keeps us on the edge of our seats throughout the story. I really wasn’t expecting the ending, which took me by surprise!

I don’t know if this is really the last volume, but I hope there will be more, because there’s still so much potential left in the series and in the characters!

A series that I recommend!
