Miracle - Disabled Man Seen Pushing Mobility Scooter

Today in Barnsley I witnessed a miracle. Yes....a bone fide miracle. A wonderous act of the big man himself.....(not Billy Connelly) but God. Or maybe it was Jesus. Well it was somebody of higher being than you or me.
We were driving back from 'tarn' after a visit t't butchers, when we saw it.............a man who was previously unable to walk unaided.....did so! Yes! I know. It's amazing isn't it. He got up off his mobility scooter.....and pushed it! I was lost for words. I thought it only right that I broadcast this beautiful moment in time on the inter-web, for all to see. This needed sharing. Tell the Pope, tell the queen, tell everybody!
Now you may think I'm going over the top with this. The fact is that anybody who has a mobility scooter has been deemed 'unable to walk far, unaided' by a doctor. A man who has spent years training to be one of the best in the field of medicine.
This 'disabled' man has obviously managed to fool everybody. The doctors who said he was disabled. The council who issued the machine to him. The government who pay this man to stop at home because he can't work....because he is disabled! No doubt he gets lots of payouts by the state for being in such a state of invalidity. Paid for by us! His battery had obviously died and he needed to get home. Any properly disabled person would have flagged down someone for help or phoned for a friend or family member to come and get them. Not this one. He got off it and pushed it!
After composing ourselves, we were suddenly aware of just how many of these scooters are in Barnsley. Bloody loads! There were 3 outside the Working Mans Club. There was 1 outside the local shop and 2 outside the bookies. That's just near Athersley. These are people who can't work but yet can go to the pub drinking and to the bookies betting. Now I know there are genuine people who struggle to get around but we shouldn't be giving them to anyone who cant't be bothered to work for a living. We need stricter guidelines on who gets benefits. I hope the government actually do something with the reforms they have planned. People should be telling us what they CAN do.....not what they can't.

Ban Supermarket Packaging & A Bit Of A Dole Rant

I'm not one for having a go at supermarkets, and I'm not sure if it's just because I've just gone 40! but........We went to Co-op supermarket today and got what we thought were lovely cuts of lamb. They were reduced to 2 packs for £6.00. Bargain. So you'd think.
When we came to cook them (with steamed potatoes and cauliflower, mushy peas and gravy), upon opening the packaging we realised that the meat was not only the boniest lamb I've ever come across, but also the fattiest. From the outside of the packaging the pieces looked yummy. When we lifted them out and turned them over, there was more fat than meat! The packaging division of the Co-op must be under strict instructions to place the meat in the packets in the best position, tucking any fatty edges under so that it can't be seen. Disgusting!
We hoped we would be able to save the meal by stripping all the fat and removing bones after cooking only to find that the meat that was left made up about 25% of the weight of the original portions.
It is also handy that the paper they put in the bottom of the packet, used to soak up any excess blood, is white. So you can't see through it, so hiding the fatty meats. I feel ripped off. I think it's finally the nail in the coffin for supermarket shopping for meats for me. We've been going to a great butchers in the market in Barnsley recently and the meat is superb. Always tender and hardly any fat. They usually ask if you want fat with it to help with the cooking when you choose your cut.
The problem is, we don't go into Barnsley much these days due to the town centre being overrun with drunks and foreigners looking to lift your wallet or things out of your shopping bags. I feel sorry for the older folk who wander around town clutching their bags tightly so as not to have it taken. I have to be careful here so as not to turn this into a racist rant, because it's not. We just don't feel totally safe in town any more or you feel as though things are about to kick off if you happen to catch the eye of some cider swilling, no job, benefit claiming twat who spends all his time spending my hard earn taxes between the bookies and the off-licence, before chucking up all over fences outside the public toilets.

Oh....this started out as a moan about packaging and turned into a problem much nearer to my heart. Oh well....into the breach we go.....My partner, Caroline, is out of work after getting made redundant a few months ago. She didn't claim jobseekers allowance initially as she felt it was degrading. But we needed a bit of help on the money front as my wage was barely covering the mortage and bills. So she made some phone calls and found she could claim jobseekers. But not free healthcare, not free dental health, ALL the things that these wasters who bang kids out for fun just so they can have a house. Which they won't look after. Which we pay for.
Call me niave, but I thought we paid into the system so that we could get help if we needed it. I feel really let down when we're told that she can only claim jobseekers for 6 month. This is woman who WANTS to work. This is a woman who HATES signing on. This is a woman who has at least 2 interviews a week and applies for, on average, 7 jobs a week. Some at minimum wage and some at higher rate. She used to earn a good wage and now she's resorting to begging from the government onloy to be told she can only have a little bit of help!
But this is a woman who has paid into the system for over 20 years and never claimed anything. The only time we need help and we're given limited help. While the dregs of society sit in the pub all day, don't apply for jobs (and if they do, they go in such a state as that no employer in his right mind would touch them with a barge pole.), smoke 40 cigarettes a day and knock out more kids so they can get a bigger house and more handouts! It makes me so bloody angry.
I don't want any of the National Front lot leaving posts saying well done lad or give them what for. I'm just a normal working class bloke letting off steam. It's a problem that everyone seems to ignore....and it needs sorting before we lose control completely.

Slimming World Diet - Week 2

Week 2 weight - 19st 12lb

Loss of 4 lbs.

Not as dramatic as the first week but its great. I knew the 1st week was not going to repeat itself so am very happy with 4lb.
I discovered the joys of fresh pineapple this week. I loved tinned pineapple but Tesco had them on offer for £1 each, I bought one. I have never tasted such a sweet fruit in my life. I've dined out on fruit salads this week with plenty of pineapple, melon, oranges, apples, strawberries, grapes and blue berries. yummy.

Starting Weight For My Diet (again)

Well, here we go again. Diet time!
I got the shock of my life last week when I weighed myself and was absolutely gutted to see that I'd obviously had far too many mince pies and christmas cake over the break. In fact it wasn't just over the break, it was over the past 6 month that I've been hammering the food and booze. I knew I was doing it. And I don't know why. Simple as. I brought it all on myself.

So, my starting weight is......20st 10lb (290lbs)

This was 1 week ago. I went back to the slimming world diet which my partner knows inside out and I sort of understand. Instead of saving syns for booze, like last time, we used our syns making the food tastier (sauces etc) and having odd treats. And it seems to be working.

Week 1 weight.......20st 1lb (291lbs)

Not gonna get too excited. It's gona be a long slog this one. But it's an encouraging start.
I'll post my weight weekly with any thoughts I have and lets see how we do.
I feel alot more positive these days so maybe I can lose more than before. And change my eating and drinking habits in the process so I can live a healthier and longer life.

Right.....I've fallen off the wagon god knows how many times with this bloody diet. To the point where I've put more weight on than I had originally! I now weigh 20stone 7.25lbs.
Go on Bubba!
I'm only a few months off being 40 and Caroline and I have decided to do this once and for all. Not only were we eating like hell, but we were drinking ourselves into oblivion. We were enjoying it right to the point where we couldn't buy cheap clothes, were out of breath walking to the car and it was costing a small fortune. We're not made of money.
So we decided that we would abstain from drinking and eating unhealthily. No more Dominos pizza deliveries at 11pm after our 4th bottle of good quality wine. No more cream cakes when we pass a deli and no more alcohol (for a couple of weeks anyway). The drinking is going to be the hardest thing.
We do like a drink. But....we aint getting any younger either. Our backs are playing up more often than not. We can't be bothered to do any DIY(there's a few unfinished jobs around the house). Our life revolves around eating and drinking.

We tried before with this Slimming World diet and got bored with the lack of variety. We stuck to making the same old recipes that we enjoyed, but realised soon that we were making the same food week in week out. Boring! So this time we've got some spices and Caroline's done loads of research for slimming world recipes on the internet. And I think we're onto a winner. I'm going to start writing a blog with my own thoughts on how I'm feeling, good or bad. It may be like a bit of therapy for me. Help me get the frustrations of wanting the bad things in life.
We're pretty good with the whole syns thing. We tend not to have many. I have got a thing for chocolate but I can handle that...I think!

Anyway, Day 1 of the 3rd attempt at losing weight. Feeling ok. Todays meals were as follows:

Breakfast: 2 peices of fruit and a hard boiled egg

Lunch: Mushroom rice, three bean salad with peppers, red onion and spring onion & a smidgeon of dressing. A banana. A Muller light yoghurt.

Dinner: 2 fried eggs (fry light), slimming world syn free chips & baked beans. Fruit salad.

Not a bad start.

Rat Population Increase & bin collections problems in Barnsley

I've lived in Barnsley for over 5 years and I've got to say that I love the place. We may be overrun with disability claimers and immigrants but that pales into insignificance when you look at the friendliness of the majority of the people and the countryside that we have around us.
I fell in love with a Barnsley 'lass' and moved here from Halifax were I lived up until then. And I don't regret a minute.
The only worry I have as of late is the fact that I've seen too many rats for my liking!
Not little ones scuttling around looking for food....but big bloody ones the size of a cat!
My next door neighbour hit one on the back with a sweeping brush handle 5 times and it still ran away. A worrying thing.
The situation isn't helped with people throwing half eaten mars bars or apples into the street because they can't be arsed to drive their disability mobile 5 yards to the nearest bin. It's because the bin recycling setup in Barnsley is a joke. It's 23 degrees outside and the waste chicken I put in the bin a week and a half ago is stinking to high heaven and there are enough flies around the bin to worry a fat turd. This whole recycling thing is a great thing, we need to do this or our planet will be fucked for our kids' kids. The problem is, is that some overpaid underworked twat in the council office has deemed it too expensive to recycle AND empty your normal bin every week.
Now, I thought that they sold all the glass, tins and paper to companies who can turn it into products, like Glass Recycling on Laithes Lane. So if the council are doing this then this money should subsidise the refuse collections. Our normal rubbish collections should not be compromised. Never!

I have to wash my bin every 2 weeks because there are loads of maggots squirming around in the bottom of my stinking bin. The council should either collect our rubbish weekly, or offer a free bin washing service to us. We recycle religiously and are fed up with being told to cope because of the penny pinching council!

Mobile Phone Unlocking Hassle

Why, when I spend my hard earned money on a mobile phone, is it locked to a particular network. Why then should I have to pay to unlock the phone. Even after 18mth with Virgin, I still have to pay to be released.
I know the networks subsidize the cost of the phone and want to get some of the money back on the calls you make. But wouldn't it be fairer to put a 12 month cap on the time you must remain locked to that network. These phone companies make enough money as it is without keeping you locked into their network for years to come, unless you pay 'mr-dodgy-i'll-unlock-your-phone-for-20-quid' down the high street.

Gareth Barry Move To Liverpool Is Off

Aston Villa say that Gareth Barry will be staying at the club and not moving to Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Villa claim the Reds failed to meet a deadline to sign the midfielder, who stated he wanted to move to Anfield, and now any switch is off.

"During talks in the past few days, a final deadline to conclude this episode was set that all parties were aware of and agreed to," said a Villa statement.

"This deadline has now passed and so Gareth will remain with Villa."

Oh well. I think he would have been a great addition but the squad is just about strong enough to challenge for the title.

Liverpool Qualify For Champions League!!!!

Its official....Liverpool are now contenders!!! After years of uncertainty, and feelings that they may just lose this game....I watched in awe as Liverpool finally showed that they can win everything this season. Beating Toulouse 4-0. The new signings really look like they want to win....everything! Leto, Babel and Lucas all had great games. Crouch, Kuyt and Hyypia played superbly. Hyypia scored a header....with a broken nose! Very exciting times ahead.
Oh and I finished 2nd behind Chelsea in the Premiership in my 1st season as Liverpool manager in Football Manager 2007. Beqat Chelsea in the League Cup final and beat Man Utd to win the FA Cup. Hell of a good start me thinks.

Gabriel Heinze Transfer Circus!!

To my utter amazement this week, Gabriel Hienze was told by an FA tribunal taht he would not be allowed to join Liverpool! Apparently the letter he had in his possession, stating that he would be permitted to leave Man Utd if another club offered more than £6.8m, actually meant any other club except for fierce premiership rivals! What a load of to grade shit! It makes a mockery of the transfer system that the FA have. Then you see Tevez going to Man Utd, albeit weeks after the whole thing started, and the FA allow it. What a crock! Hienze Then quickly joined Real Madrid. No problem with that happening because they're not premiership rivals....wait a minute...aren't they Champions League rivals??? I will bare my arse in Woolworths shop window if Real Madrid knock Man Utd out of the Champions League and Hienze scores the winner!!!

That would just prove that it doesn't matter who you sell a player to. They should be allowed the freedom to go wherever they want. Even if Gerrard signed for Everton next week....so what! He's played his skin out all the time he's been at Anfield. If he thinks its time to go...then it must be!

Well...the bank holiday looms. Another weekend of either sitting in and watching the typical crap telly that is usually dished out to us, or sitting in traffic cos we decided to head to the beach instead! Be nice to look for a cheap flight and piss off to Stockholm or somewhere similar.

RECYCLING UPDATE!!!
After a 1 year delay, we finally got our glass and paper recycling bins from Barnsley Council. I'd better check to make sure they haven't increased my council tax bill to cover the costs.
I heard that Barnsley don't have a recycling centre in the town so they bin lorries have to travel to somewhere near Nottingham to unload and travel back!!! Green-ness at its worst!!

Weighed In And Got A Shock.....

Not as bad as I thought. I went to the weigh in tonight, expecting to have put on a few pounds. And I maintained the same as last week. I've not been sticking to the diet religiously this week! Tempted far too often by the delights of wine and vodka....and ice cream....and pizza....and chicken kebabs....and chop suey and....well, you get the idea. But that is it. Enough. Time to show some self restraint. Going to swill some fried chicken and chips down my neck with a fine chardonnay! oh well. I'll start again tomorrow.

I don't think I've really got to grips with this diet lark.

Barnsley Council Won't Let Us Recycle!!

Last year, Barnsley council informed us that our rubbish collection would be going to once every 2 weeks, and we would get a recyclable rubbish collection on alternate weekends. We were given a green wheelie bin for garden refuse and cardboard, and a small green box for glass and tins. This all went well, we recycled like mad, until some git stole, yes...stole, our green box! We contacted Barnsley Council and were told that it would be 5 months until we could get a replacement box. 5 MONTHS!! This came and went and we are now being told it wiil be 'a few more months' until we can get one! Now my partner and I are tax paying, hard working individuals and we can't get a green box! This comes from the council that stopped paying its insurance for flood damage because it said it was too expensive. So where did all the money go that would have been spent on the insurance? Not on green bins! No, it goes to all the immigrants who are coming to Barnsley for 'a better life'. These people are aloud to come to this town, without a job or house. They're then given a house, and more resources available to them than people who have paid into this countrys tax system! They are given translators who tell them how to claim for everything they can. These people are better of than me!

It leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I get up at 6am, drive for an hour, work for 9 hours, drive home for an hour and a half, eat my tea then find its nearly time for bed! I do this 5 days a week. I'm lucky if I can then afford to go out for a meal with my fiance once a week. I pay a grand on council tax a year only to find that immigrants are better off than me. And they don't usually work. Why would they? Councils like this give them money by the wheelbarrow full. Yet if the honest tax payer wants help from our council it is made very difficult for us. We are not advised on what we can claim or can't claim. We have to read through all the leaflets ourselves to find out what we are due. Pensioners who have paid taxes all their lives, are not told what they can claim or can't claim. These people should be told to claim for everything! There should be advisors for these pensioners. It infuriates me that newcommers are given everything.

I'm not a racist. I'm not xenophobic. I'm an Englishman who wants what's fair for his fellow countrymen and women. Its time we stopped sending billions of pounds to aid other countries when we are in a bloody mess in this one. There is hardly any aid for the flood victims here. But there are still pubs full of immigrants and the workshy on a weekday. They get their money from somewhere. If they can spend all day getting hammered in the boozer, common sense says they are getting far too much money!!

If something isn't done, there will be a shortage of money coming into the councils because everyone will be jetting off for a new life in another country! It needs sorting now!

Superb news for ALL Liverpool FC fans.....LFC tv, the new football channel, is going to be broadcast on Virgin Media & Sky!! The channel is as part of the Setanta Sports package available to all subscribers of the television providers. You get up to 9 sports channels in the package, showing Barclays Premiership football, Conference League, European matches, Rugby League, Aussie Rules, Golf, etc. The list is endless. It costs £9.99 per month from sky. It is also included in Virgins XL TV package for free!!! Luckily this is what I have!!

It would seem that Mr Branson is going head to head with Sky over Sports. I think Branson got a bit upset with Sky earlier this year when Sky demanded more money for Sky 1 and a few of the other channels that came through Virgin. I think he's going to give them a run for their money where the sports channels are concerned! My money is on Richard Branson!

Whatever happens, it's got to be good news for sports fans all over. With Setanta showing 46 LIVE Premiership matches and 76 Scottish Premier League Matches, as well as the European games and friendlies, there is more than enough footie for us all.

The LFC TV channel will show ALL premiership & european cup matches, as well as most of the friendlies. I for one have got my seat booked in my house for the football coming up on Virgin this season.

Well, I'm about 7 weeks into this diet now and I'm finding it pretty sluggish. I'm lacking enthusiasm now. I'm finding it hard going. I struggle sometimes to keep on the right path. I want yummy food!! I'm a fatty who likes his grub, enjoys choccy bar, wants a bag of crisps sometimes. I need some help staying on the right track. I'm not going to the weigh-in tomorrow.....I think I may have gained!

I'm also trying to design my own website. I've downloaded a few tools to help me. Coffeecup software seems to come highly rated. I'll post a link to it when it looks better than it does now. Some kid could do better with an empty egg carton and washing up bottle I'm sure!
I'll get to grips with it soon. Html coding is a little harder than I thought. It would be nice to set up our own business online. More as a hobby. Just like the idea.

New Anfield Plans Unveiled

Liverpool have shown off the new plans for Anfield....the NEW ANFIELD. Looks superb and seats 60,000, with a chance to add another 14,000 at a later date if they want to.
Lets hope that they can sign Gabriel Hienze too. He's regarded by many as the missing link in the reds defence. Even though Ferguson has been quoted as saying he wants a bit of loyalty from Hienze. He thinks that Man Utd looked after him and helped him recover from that serious injury a few years ago. Liverpool have tabled a third offer and his agent says that he has a letter proving that Hienze can talk to liverpool because they have offered over a certain amount. At the end of the day, if a player wants to leave then he should be allowed to go. He will get so much stick if he stays now, after this whole performance. Its funny how Ferguson can change his point of view when its a player who is wanting to go to united i.e Tevez

The Beckhams Enjoy Life US Style

It would seem that the Beckhams are settling in to life in the US fairly quickly. Hob-knobbing with the other rich and famous comes naturally. Most Brits were shocked when he moved to America, but it was a natural progression from the UK, then Madrid. I think most of it based on Posh's desire for celebrity, but I think David likes it too. I mean, c'mon.....who wouldn't like to be in their shoes. Money, looks and the eyes of the world upon them (not the latter for me!) They belong in the world of the financially comfortable and the pretty. I would be beaming from ear to ear if my mates included Will Smith & Tom Cruise.
