The Art of Living and Sri Sri University:

The Art of Living is an International Voluntary and charitable Organization founded by His Holiness Sri Sri Ravishankar in the year 1981. Its international headquarter is situated at Bangalore, India. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Vidya Mandir Trust is a sister organization of Art of Living foundation founded in the year 1999. It aims to provide a complete education with holistic, stress free and friendly environment. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Vidya Mandir consists of 54 Bal Mandirs, 46 Vidya Mandirs, 8 colleges and 2 free schools in India. Other than Sri Sri University, Sri Sri Ravishankar Pre University College at Bangalore, Sri Sri Institute of Ayurvedic Science and Research at Bangalore, Sri Sri Centre for Media Studies at Bangalore, Sri Sri Institute of Management Studies at Goa, and Sri Sri Centre for Fine Arts and Performing Arts are major projects of Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir Trust.

Sri Sri University at Odisha:

On 18^th December 2006, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Sri Sri Vidya Mandir Trust and Government of Orissa. Sri Sri University is located at Bidyadharpur of Cuttack on a land of 189 acres nearby the River Kathjodi. The University is a combination science and spirituality; which will train in traditional and modern sciences, along with economics, entrepreneurship, public policy, journalism, and many more.

Congregation of Learn-Lead-Serve philosophy, it aims to impart value-added, holistic teaching which will possess a vital role in the social and economical development of the country.

An Introduction to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is a humanitarian leader, spiritual teacher and an ambassador of peace. His vision of a stress-free, violence-free society has united millions of people the world over through service projects and the courses of The Art of Living.

The Beginning:

Born in 1956 in Southern India, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was a gifted child. By the age of four, he was able to recite parts of the Bhagavad Gita, an ancient Sanskrit scripture and was often found in meditation. His first teacher Sudhakar Chaturvedi, had a long cooperation with Mahatma Gandhi. By the age of seventeen in 1973, he had graduated with degrees in both Vedic literature and physics.

Founding the Art of Living:

Sri Sri entered a ten-day period of silence in Shimoga located in the Indian state of Karnataka. The Sudarshan Kriya, a powerful breathing technique, was born. With time, the Sudarshan Kriya became the centerpiece of the Art of Living courses.

Sri Sri founded The Art of Living as an international, non-profit, educational and humanitarian organization. Its educational and self-development programs offer powerful tools to eliminate stress and foster a sense of well-being. Appealing not only to a specific population, these practices have proven effective globally and at all levels of society.

In 1997, he co-founded the International Association for Human Values (IAHV) to coordinate sustainable development projects, nurture human values and coordinate conflict resolution in association with The Art of Living. In India, Africa and South America, the two sister organizations’ volunteers are spearheading sustainable growth in rural communities, and have already reached out to over 36,000 villages.
