Whitney Houston ~ Heartbreak Hotel

Whitney Houston was laid to rest today and she can now rest in peace.

Heartbreak Hotel is one of my favorite of Whitney's songs. It was released in December of 1998, the second single from her album, My Love Is Your Love. The song was written by Carsten Schack, Kenneth Karlin, and Tamara Savage.

Although she did not write the song, I wonder if it was written specifically for her . . . in my research for this post, I could not find the answer to my question. It could have been titled "Bobby's Song" . . . it certainly reflects how she was feeling about the weasel at that time.

Maybe she fooled her fans, but I don't think so . . . she willingly allowed him to lead her to "Heartbreak Hotel" . . . true love will do that to you.

Her last interview with Oprah certainly made it clear that he was not "husband of the year" material, while she put up with him and stood by his side for all those years. It put shivers up my spine as she told the story of his bizarre behavior, spray painting "evil eyes" all over their house.

What made me sad was that you could still see the love for him in her eyes . . . at least she was blessed with a child that she adored and loved so much that resulted from that union.

He couldn't let the family celebrate her life with peace and dignity at her beautiful memorial service . . . no, he had to show up with uninvited guests and cause a scene. What a loser to not even respect her in death . . . he should have had the good sense to just stay away. But it did put his name back in the news . . . it is a good thing to be bad these days . . .

The song also received two nominations at the 2000 Grammy Awards: Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance by a Group or Duo, though it did not win. The video was nominated for Best R&B Video at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards.

Just because you were once blessed with good fortune, an abundance of talent, fame, riches, beauty doesn't mean that it will last forever. Fall from grace happens to all of us every day in one form or another. Some of us can handle it and rise above it like it never happened. Some of us can't . . . and continue the downward spiral of life while attempting to get back up.

In my opinion, Whitney Houston died of a broken heart a long time ago . . . we lost her beautiful spirit as a result. Fans lost her beautiful message through the songs and have missed her so much . . . I am one of them.

While being blessed with so much, she had the misfortune of falling madly in love with the wrong man. Through the years I've wondered if the successful Whitney would still be around had she fallen in love with the right man . . . her life filled with happiness instead of despair.

When I first heard of her untimely death, it was my thought that she was finally at peace again.

Her new movie is due for release this summer . . . it is my hope that it will be the success that she deserved . . . successful enough to erase all these years of ups and mainly downs so we can remember her as the great talent she was.

This song is one of my favorites and the video is eerily ironic to me today.

It's that time of year to celebrate love . . .

from now until Valentine's Day, I'll be featuring my favorite love songs.

To start off the series . . .

Stop, Look, Listen . . . composed by the song writing team of Thom Bell and Linda Creed in 1971. The song brought instant success for the up and coming group, The Stylistics.

In the meantime, Motown Records was set to record an album of duets. They hooked up two of their most successful artists, Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye . . . one of the songs was Stop, Look, Listen, which was only released as a single in the UK, which peaked at #25 on the charts in 1973.

The song was included in Michael McDonald's second album of Motown covered songs . . . a duet with the queen of love songs, Toni Braxton. Their interpretation of the song is my favorite!

La Isla Bonita is one of my favorite songs from Madonna. In my music collection, I must have at least 20 versions of the song . . . some of the remixes are awesome, some not so great.

But I have never seen or heard the song done as the version with Gogol Bordello . . . it is in a class all its own . . . and of course, I love it! Gypsy style :)

The first video is one that I created, using a studio version edited with concert footage from the Sticky N Sweet concert . . . very festive, good-time music! The choreography is awesome . . . Madonna never lets me down!

When I came across the website, Wolfgang's Vault, memories of my first apartment, posters and black lights came flooding back to me. Vintage Rock Posters are truly works of art. I've long since forgotten about those posters, but a nostalgic wave came over me as I thought about my past vintage decor.

My biggest collection is concert ticket stubs since I was obsessed with concerts back in the day . . . I never got to go back stage, so I don't have any prized back stage passes . I've been saving all the concert t-shirts to make a rock 'n roll quilt. Then there are the hats, hat pins, patches . . . but what I prize the most are two concert programs from way back in the day when I went to see Elvis Presley and Tom Jones with my grandmother. Music memorabilia brings back so many awesome memories!

Don't know what happened to all those posters . . . the black lights were tossed out long ago.

All Over You is my favorite of songs by the rock group Live from their 1994 album, Throwing Copper.

Although the song was never released as a single in the US, it reached #33 on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart, #1 on Billboard's Recurrent Airplay chart, #4 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks and #2 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart . . . #48 in the UK charts and #18 in Canada.

The following video clip of the song is from MTV's Unplugged . . . I remember seeing the show back in the day and it remains one of my favorites from the series. Seeing the video again brought back fond memories of MTV the way it used to be.

The music (written by Andrew Farriss) was given to Michael Hutchence who wrote the hauntingly beautiful lyrics for this sensuous ballad.

As I write this post, Michael Jackson's doctor is on trial for involuntary murder. The facts coming out about his death all over the news have really disturbed me. For me, the story of his life and death has to be the very saddest I have ever heard of. Rather than have these thoughts in my head, I decided to go back to his music and remember him as the greatest entertainer of my lifetime.

Top 10 favorite songs of all time!

In my opinion, there hasn't been another songwriting team to match the music genius of Lennon and McCartney . . . their music and lyrics are magical and timeless. However, this song was written by Meredith Willson (who also wrote the song 76 Trombones) for the Broadway musical The Music Man. It was the only Broadway musical The Beatles recorded.

The Beatles performed this song on their first appearance of The Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964 . . . Beatlemania was unleashed as the music for a new generation. Little did we know back in the day that their music would prove to be timeless almost 50 years later. Amazing and wonderful!

The song was included on their albums With The Beatles (UK release, 1963) and Meet The Beatles! (US release, 1964).

The Beatles remain one of my favorite groups of all time!

Of course the song holds many memories for me . . . the beginning of the musical roots for my generation. It really made us kids mad when groups like The Dave Clark Five became popular . . . we referred to them as copycats, but as new groups emerged with the new sound of the British invasion, we grew to love them all. However, The Beatles and Paul McCartney were always first in my heart. I'm just sorry I never got to see them live in concert, but I was just a little girl . . . not even a teenager yet!

The song holds new meaning for me as new love blossomed in my life. It reminds me of an awakening of perfect love for the wonderful man who is now my new husband. We were married 3 weeks ago.

One of my favorite songs of all time!

Falco has the distinction of being the first and only artist to date whose principal language was German to score a #1 hit in the United States with "Rock Me Amadeus".

The song "Rock Me Amadeus" became a worldwide hit in 1986, reaching #1 in the US and the UK and his album, Falco 3, peaked at the number three position on the US Billboard album charts.

Falco died of severe injuries received from an auto accident in 1998, just two weeks before his 41st birthday.

As I was writing a post on my Peace, Love, Happiness blog about dreams, ambitions and "the big picture" of life, the inspirational lyrics of this song came to mind.

I was inspired to write this post the other day when this song wouldn't stop playing in my head and I posted it on Facebook in celebration of my wedding week.

The thought occurred to me that I am already feeling that we are one . . . but that piece of paper makes it official :) Actually, we have the marriage license, it is just not notarized . . . I guess that makes us "nearly one" by law.

Isn't it strange how a single piece of paper makes a huge difference in status? Like a college diploma hung on the wall makes you more intelligent that one who doesn't have that diploma?

Of course, it isn't the marriage license that makes two people "one" spiritually . . . "The taste of love is sweeter like honey on the vine, like the wind that feeds the fire, two souls become entwined." Two souls become entwined . . . that is what "being one" means to me.

He left his fans tons of never published music that we will enjoy in the coming years. Although he is gone, he will never be forgotten. Michael Jackson has always been one of my favorites . . . despite the headlines.

Nina Blackwood, Martha Quinn, Alan Hunter and Mark Goodman, four of the original MTV VJs, have their own blog, appropriately titled "The Original MTV VJs" just in time to join in the celebration of MTV's 30th Anniversary.

They were rock stars in their own right, breaking new ground with the new marketing twist that turned the music industry upside down. After all, art imitates life . . . didn't video kill the radio star?

Starting this Saturday at 6AM, VH1 Classic will be airing
“MTV30 On VH1 Classic,” a three day tribute to MTV’s
30th anniversary of being launched worldwide.

From VH1's blog . . .

"Not only will the “MTV30 On VH1 Classic” marathon showcase classic moments from MTV News, The MTV Movie Awards, the VMAs and Live Aid, but unforgettable VJ segments from the original MTV VJ’s and clips from hit MTV series will also be potpourried together for all to bask in their nostalgic glory. Personally, I can do without the reminder

of all the "hit MTV series" that, in my opinion,
