Songzanlin Lamasery
Shangri-La Songzanlin Lamasery the largest Tibetan Buddhism monastery in Yunnan Province, to be found on a mountain slope, about 5km from downtown. The 5^th Dalai Lama chose the site, in the course of divination in 1679. Built in the fashion of Potala Palace in Lhasa and resides on top of a hill, of the two Zhacang and Jikang lamaseries it is a five-story Tibetan watchtowers with five gates, many sub-lamaseries and hundreds of rooms for the monks. The main scripture hall is the focus of the visit, with prayer time in the morning. The hall provide accommodation of 1,600 lamas, meditation or chanting Buddhist scriptures.
