2012 Nissan Sentra Overview
Virtually unchanged from last year, the 2012 Nissan Sentra continues to do battle in the competitive compact segment and holds its own.

The Sentra comes with seating for five and this sedan is available in no less than six trim levels: 2.0, 2.0 S, 2.0 SR, 2.0 SL, and the sportier SE-R/SE-R Spec V trims. Looking at the Sentra, what stands out about it is its size, notably its height. 2.0 SR and SE-R trims get their own unique grille, front and rear fascias, and side skirts to separate them from their less sporty stable mates.

Peek under the hood of most trims of the 2012 Sentra and you’ll find a 140-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 147 pounds-feet of torque. The SE-R gets a larger and more powerful 177-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder, while the SE-R Spec V tops the pile with a 200-horsepower version of the same engine. The majority of Sentras (except the base trim) come equipped standard with an efficient CVT transmission. Moving up to the SE-R adds paddle shifters which gives you some more control, while the Spec V gets a close-ratio six-speed manual.

Fuel economy for the Sentra is decent, but falls short of the top competitors in this segment. With the CVT equipped the Sentra checks in at 27 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. The more powerful SE-R dips those numbers to 24 and 30 respectively, while the Spec V and its six-speed manual only gets 21 mpg/city and 28 mpg/highway.

When it comes to interior features, much of them are optional which allows you to configure the Sentra exactly to your liking. Standard features include air conditioning, power windows and locks, and an auxiliary input jack. From there, the Sentra can be outfitted with keyless entry and ignition, Bluetooth® connectivity, USB port for iPods, a navigation system, or a rear view camera. Both of the SE-R trims get special cloth seating with special embroidery, as well as special instrumentation that relays information to the driver including lateral g-forces and oil pressure.

The 2012 Sentra was rated at four stars overall (out of five possible) by the NHTSA for its performance in crash tests. Standard safety features include six airbags, stability system and traction control, and antilock brakes. A rear view camera is optional.

2011 Volvo S60 CKD Officially Launched In Malaysia

Volvo Car Malaysia has officially launched the 2011 Volvo S60 CKD (completely knocked down) version in Malaysia. The local assembly range has been revised, now consisting of the S60 1.6 T4 at RM 220,000, and the S60 2.0 T5 at RM 255,000; prices are OTR without insurance. The monthly sales target is set at 50 units.

Launched back in April 2011, the fully-imported Volvo S60 2.0 T5 and 3.0 T6 AWD were priced at RM 288,000 and RM 348,000, respectively, though units of both will not be replenished once they run out. Local assembly therefore saves you RM 33K in the case of the S60 2.0 T5, though you also miss out on heated seats and a 7" central display (replaced by a 5" unit).

The 2011 Volvo S60 T4 is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged, direct-injected four-cylinder GTDi (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) engine that churns out 180 hp at 5700 rpm and 240 Nm (270 Nm on overboost) between 1600–5000 rpm. With the use of a six-speed Powershift dual-clutch gearbox, the 0-100 km/h dash requires 9.0 seconds, and the top speed stands at 225 km/h. Fuel consumption is officially rated at 13.5 km/litre.

The 2011 Volvo S60 T5 draws power from a 2.0-litre turbocharged, direct-injected four-cylinder GTDi engine capable of generating 240 hp at 5500 rpm and 320 Nm between 1800–5000 rpm. The same six-speed Powershift gearbox again directs the power to the front wheels, enabling the S60 T5 to complete the century sprint in 7.5 seconds, before hitting 230 km/h. Fuel consumption is rated at 12.1 km/litre.

Positioned as Volvo’s sportiest car ever produced, the new-generation Volvo S60, based on Ford’s EUCD platform that also underpins the Volvo S80 and the Volvo XC60, comes with stiffer springs and bushes, higher degree of damping and improved steering compared with all its predecessors. Malaysia’s S60 variants use the Dynamic, as opposed to Comfort, chassis setup.

The S60 T4 is equipped with a host of safety technologies such as Advanced Stability Control, Corner Traction Control, City Safety, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Information System, and Driver Alert Control. 2011 Chevrolet Captiva SUV Facelift Launched In Malaysia

The 2011 Chevrolet Captiva seven-seater SUV has been launched in Malaysia with a mid-life facelift, new equipment, and powertrain upgrades. Fully imported from Thailand, the updated Captiva 2.4 AWD variant is priced at RM 155,185 (OTR excluding insurance), up from RM 146,252. The revised Captiva 2.0 diesel AWD variant will only arrive in the fourth quarter of 2011.

What immediately stands out is the revamped front end, dominated by a bold grille, a remoulded bonnet and new headlights. 18" alloy wheels and LED wing mirror indicator lights are standard items as well. The facelift does not include the rear end, which remains as it was. The 2011 Chevrolet Captiva’s cabin is made more modern and useful with the use of “Ice Blue” illumination for instruments, more metallic accents, additional storage compartments, steering wheel-mounted air-conditioning controls, and an electronic parking brake.

A major change is the upgraded powertrain: the 2.4-litre Ecotec engine is now equipped with Double CVC, boosting output levels to 167 hp and 225 Nm, up from 136 hp and 220 Nm. A six-speed automatic transmission replaces the five-speed unit of old, though the same AWD system is carried forward. Other than being biofuel E85-compatible, the engine’s official fuel economy improves to 11.0 km/litre from 9.6 km/litre. An ECO mode is provided if you want to conserve petrol.

Adding to the original dual front airbags, ABS and EBD available on the Captiva 2.4 AWD variant are curtain airbags, Brake Assist, TCS (Traction Control System), ESP (Electronic Stability Program), HDC (Hill Descent Control), and HAS (Hill Start Assist), a feature that holds the vehicle stationary on a slope for 1.5 seconds, allowing time for the driver to switch foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal.

2012 All-New Toyota Camry Non-US Version Unveiled

The 2012 all-new Toyota Camry non-US version has been unveiled on Toyota Ukraine’s website. This is probably the umpteenth time that a new Toyota model is described as too similar to its predecessor, but here it is again: the 2012 seventh-generation Toyota Camry looks near-identical to the 2011 sixth-generation Toyota Camry. It must be noted that the Camry for ASEAN including Malaysia may yet receive styling changes, though they will be subtle at best.

The new cabin features a redesigned dashboard, seats with better support, increased interior space, and enhanced noise and vibration insulation. Again, Malaysia may get a cabin with subtle revisions here and there, especially to the equipment level, but, largely, what you see here would be the design for the 2012 Toyota Camry that is set to be locally-assembled in Malaysia.

Along with a more rigid body structure, retuned suspension, improved aerodynamics, and an electric steering with better feel and responsiveness, there is an entry-level 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 180 hp and 230 Nm; a 3.5-litre V6 engine with 272 hp and 336 Nm; as well as a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 158 hp 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine and a 143 hp electric motor. 2011 Toyota Corolla Altis Facelift Arriving In Malaysia Soon

UMW Toyota Motor has listed the new mid-life facelift version of Toyota Corolla Altis on their website. The most significant of changes is the addition of a 2.0V variant priced at RM 131,990 (estimated OTR with insurance pricing). The RM 105,990 1.6E, the RM 112,990 1.8E and the RM 122,990 1.8G variants have had their prices revised upwards; for the extra money, the variants get more powerful dual VVT-i engines as well as a new seven-speed Super CVT-i gearbox, except for the base 1.6E which is equipped with a four-speed automatic gearbox with Super ECT.

Compared with the current 1.6-litre engine producing 107 bhp at 6000 rpm and 145 Nm at 4400 rpm, the new 1ZR-FE 1.6-litre engine produces 121 bhp at 6000 rpm and 154 Nm at 5200 rpm. The new 2ZR-FE 1.8-litre engine produces 138 bhp at 6400 rpm and 173 Nm at 4000 rpm, while the current 1.8-litre engine produces 130 bhp at 6000 rpm and 170 Nm at 4200 rpm. The 2.0V variant is powered by the new 3ZR-FE 2.0-litre engine generating 143 bhp at 6200 rpm and 187 Nm at 3600 rpm.

UMW Toyota Motor has not revealed when the facelifted Corolla Altis will be launched, but it should be within one or two months from now. More confirmed details on the pricing and equipment list to come your way with the car’s official launch.

Jeep is an automobile marque of Chrysler. The first Willys Jeeps were produced in 1941 with the first civilian models in 1945, making it is the oldest off-road vehicle and sport utility vehicle (SUV) brand. It inspired a number of other light utility vehicles, such as the Land Rover which is the second oldest 4-wheel-drive brand. The original Jeep vehicle that first appeared as the prototype Bantam BRC became the primary light 4-wheel-drive vehicle of the United States Army and Alliesduring World War II, as well as the postwar period. Many Jeep variants serving similar military and civilian roles have since been created in other nations.

Trade name

The original trademark brand-name application was filed in February 1943 by Willys-Overland. It is also used as a generic term with a lowercase (jeep) for vehicles inspired by the Jeep that are suitable for use on rough terrain.

As the only company that continually produced Jeep vehicles after the war, in June 1950 Willys-Overland was granted the privilege of owning the name "Jeep" as a registered trademark.

The origins of the vehicle: the first jeeps

When it became obvious that the United States was eventually going to become involved in the war raging in Europe, the U.S. Army contacted 135 companies asking for working prototypes of a four-wheel-drive reconnaissance car. Only two companies responded to the request, The American Bantam Car Company and Willys-Overland. The Army had set what seemed like an impossible deadline of 49 days to supply a working prototype. Willys asked for more time but were refused. The bankrupt American Bantam Car Company had no engineering staff left on the payroll and brought in Karl Probst, a talented freelance designer from Detroit. After turning down an initial request from Bantam, Probst accepted the job after being asked again by the Army, and initially working without salary, went to work July 17, 1940.

Probst completely laid out plans for the Bantam prototype in two days, and the next day estimated the total cost of the vehicle. On July 22, Bantam's bid was submitted, complete with blueprints. Much of the vehicle had to be assembled from existing off-the-shelf automotive parts, and the custom four-wheel drivetrain components were supplied by Spicer. The hand-built prototype was completed in Butler, Pennsylvania, and driven to Camp Holabird, Maryland, for testing by the Army on 21 September 1940. The vehicle met the Army's criteria, but its engine did not meet the Army's torque requirements.

The Army felt that the Bantam company was too small to supply the number of vehicles it needed, so it supplied the Bantam design to Willys and Ford who were encouraged to make their own changes and modifications. The resulting Ford "Pygmy" and Willys "Quad" prototypes looked very similar to the Bantam BRC (Bantam Reconnaissance Car) prototype and Spicer supplied very similar four-wheel drivetrain components to all three manufacturers.

The Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle manufactured by General Motors. The Volt has been on sale in the U.S. market since mid-December 2010, and is the most fuel-efficient compact car sold in the United States, as rated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

According to General Motors the Volt can travel 25 to 50 miles (40 to 80 km) on its lithium-ion battery alone. The EPA official all-electric range is 35 miles (56 km), and the total range is 379 miles (610 km). The EPA rated the Volt's combined city/highway fuel economy at 93 miles per gallon gasoline equivalent (MPG-e) in all-electric mode, and at 37 mpg_-US(6.4 L/100 km; 44 mpg_-imp) in gasoline-only mode, for an overall combined gas-electric fuel economy rating of 60 mpg_-US(3.9 L/100 km; 72 mpg_-imp) equivalent (MPG-e). The Volt operates as a pure battery electric vehicle until its plug-in battery capacity is depleted; at which point its gasoline engine powers an electric generator to extend the vehicle's range. The Volt's regenerative braking also contributes to the on-board electricity generation. In order to improve performance, theinternal combustion engine may at times be engaged mechanically to assist both electric motors to propel the Volt.

The suggested retail price for the 2011 Chevrolet Volt in the U.S. starts at US$40,280 before the US$7,500 U.S. federal tax credit and additional incentives are available in some locations. The 2012 Volt base price will be US$1,005 less than the 2011 model, as the base configuration has been defeatured. The 2011 Volt is being sold only in selected U.S. markets and nationwide availability of the 2012 model year is expected by November 2011. The 2012 Volt will be available in Canada in the third quarter of 2011, and the suggested retail price starts at CAD 41,545 (US$43,568) before any available rebates. The initial Canadian launch is also limited to selected markets and availability in the rest of Canada is expected before the end of 2012. In the Eurozone the Volt platform will be sold as the Opel/Vauxhall Ampera, and is expected to be sold for about €42,900 (US$58,000) including VAT before any government incentives. In the United Kingdom the Vauxhall Ampera is expected to be priced at GB£33,995. Exports to Europe and China are scheduled for late 2011.

Among other awards and recognition, the Chevrolet Volt won the 2009 Green Car Vision Award, 2011 Motor Trend Car of the Year, 2011 Green Car of the Year, 2011 North American Car of the Year, and 2011 World Green Car. Despite the awards earned and the positive reception from many automotive critics, there has been some controversy and concerns in the media. These include the extent of the federal government participation in the Volt development during General Motors' 2009 government-led bankruptcy; concerns about the Volt's relatively high sales price; and complaints about price markups due to the Volt's initial limited supply.

The Volt has a top speed of 100 mph (160 km/h). According to Edmunds.com road tests, the Volt's 0 to 60 mph (0–97 km/h) acceleration time is 9.2 seconds running on electric-only mode, and 9.0 seconds with the gasoline engine assisting propulsion. Motor Trend reports the Volt's quarter mile (402 m) time is 16.9 sec @ 84.3 mph (135.7 km/h), while Edmunds reports a quarter mile (402 m) time of 16.8 sec @ 81.5 mph (131.2 km/h) in electric-only operation, and 16.6 sec @ 85.5 mph (137.6 km/h) with the gas engine assisting. Motor Trend reports a 60 to 0 mph (97 to 0 km/h) braking distance of 112 ft (34 m) and Edmunds.com of 124 ft (38 m).

According to General Motors the Volt's all-electric range with a fully charged batteries varies from 25 to 50 miles (40 to 80 km) depending on terrain, driving technique, temperature. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) official all-electric range is 35 miles (56 km) with an energy consumption of 36 kWh per 100 miles (810 kJ/km). This range is based on the agency's five-cycle tests using varying driving conditions and climate controls. The total range with a full tank of gasoline and a fully charged battery is 379 miles (610 km) according to EPA tests.

The Volt's fuel tank capacity is 9.3 US gallons (35 l; 7.7 imp gal) and once the car runs out of fuel, the gasoline-powered generator shuts down, and the Volt taps into the battery for extra power. The reserve battery power is designed to provide an extra 3 to 4 mi (4.8 to 6.4 km) of range once the gasoline tank is depleted. When the reserve battery power is low, the Volt safely slows to a stop.

The European version of the Volt, the Opel Ampera, was unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show in March 2009 and also was exhibited at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show. General Motors will offer in the European market the choice of the Volt or theOpel/Vauxhall Ampera, the European version of the same car. Opel is developing the battery control modules for the Opel Ampera at the GM Alternative Propulsion Center Europe in Mainz-Kastel, Germany. The production version of the Ampera was unveiled at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

The main differences between the Volt and the Ampera are in their styling. The Ampera has a distinctive front and rear fascia, with a large cut-out in the rear bumper. The Opel Ampera features more stylized alloy wheels as standard, and the side skirts are body-colored rather than black plastic. In the inside there are only minor differences and both versions share the same exact powertrain and battery pack. A key operational difference is that the Ampera will have four drive modes, one more than the Volt. The additional option is "City Mode", which adapts battery management to the needs of commuter travel. City mode or "battery hold" engages the range-extender immediately, allowing to save the energy currently stored in the battery, and when switched off, the range-extender stops and the Ampera is then able to use the energy saved in the battery for pure electric driving, for example for traveling urban areas or restricted zones, such as the European low emission zones or to allow the Ampera to qualify for an exemption of the London congestion charge.

The Opel Ampera will benefit from several subsidies and tax breaks available for plug-in electric vehicles in several European countries. According to Opel, as of June 2011 around 5,000 customers across Europe have reserved an Ampera, with 3,000 reservations from corporate customers. The Ampera would be available for sale in Europe in late 2011, and will be assembled at the Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly plant, Michigan. For 2012 General Motors plans to manufacture 10,000 Amperas for sale in Europe, 6,000 destined for Opel and 4,000 for Vauxhall in the UK, plus an additional 2,000 Volts will be made available for the region. The carmaker will target the Ampera for business fleet market and local government agencies, where Opel has a strong customer base, while the Volt will be aimed at retail customers.
