What we have enjoyed most is the ease of use. There has been virtually no learning curve...and when the time came to learn how to do more there are wonderful tutorials. To say that I've found the pbwiki as a tool to be inspiring is an understatement. It represents one example of how "bootstrap" technology can help transform the world....for the better.
Our project grew from the question, "what can i do?" with regard to achieving the UN led Millenium Development Goals. However what has emerged has been the concept and product beginnings for automating global social responsibility.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday - Message for Community and Commerce

NewsMax reporting on the first public address from the eldest daughter since her mother's death: "We must keep reaching across the table and, in the tradition of Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, feed each other," Yolanda King said Sunday at Ebenezer Baptist Church during a presentation that was part motivational speech, part drama." The performance included scenes sharing experiences from the oral histories of America including "a girl's first ride on a desegregated bus" and an experience during the 1963 desegregation of Birmingham, Ala.

Her speech both touched on the need for healing and the call to remember there is still work to be done. This work begins with acknowledging the value of the individual, the need for love inspired dialogues, and continued seeking of peaceful resolutions to unite individuals and communities.

Even as recently as November of 2006 disturbing historial events were brought to light which cast shadows on the past and illuminated the present because as the editor of the Charlotte Observer discusses in his comments which refer to an event that happened in Wilmington North Carolina, there is a direct relationship to the present. In reference to this the editor replied, "We apologize to the black citizens and their descendants whose rights and interests we disregarded," the editorial noted," and to all North Carolinians, whose trust we betrayed by our failure to fairly report the news and stand firm against injustice." In an E&P interview Ed Williams, editorial page editor of the Charlotte paper, said he ordinarily is against "people who didn't commit a wrong apologizing to those who were wronged and are long dead." But he said this case was special given that the racist actions impact today's residents. "I thought we just needed to get on the right side of history on that".

Since the holiday was established by the 1994 Congress there has been considerable discussion about what it means to communities throughout the nation. We don't have to look far to know we've not yet reached the promise land that Dr. King envisioned, however we must not take for granted the progress that has been accomplished NOR that which lies ahead awaiting our attention and peaceful action. What action can you take today that promotes the ideals that this holiday is intended to celebrate?

There is much to be done and the recent buzz about GSR (global social responsibility) and CSR (corporate social responsibility) may give reasons for optimism. However, I feel there are some core issues that have to be interjected into such a dialogue, namely Attention, Love and Social capital in economic development/commerce/community building. Instead of repeating them here I will post this link to the article....

We forget sometimes because we get caught up in our busy world.

A young man learns what's most important in life from the guy next door.

It had been some time since Jack had seen the old man. College, girls, career, and life itself got in the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across the country in pursuit of his dreams. There, in the rush of his busy life, Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him.

Over the phone, his mother told him, "Mr. Belser died last night. The funeral is Wednesday." Memories flashed through his mind like an old newsreel as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days.

"Jack, did you hear me?"

"Oh, sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It's been so long since I thought of him. I'm sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago," Jack said.

"Well, he didn't forget you. Every time I saw him he'd ask how you were doing. He'd reminisce about the many days you spent over 'his side of the fence' as he put it," Mom told him.

"I loved that old house he lived in," Jack said.

"You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr. Belser stepped in to make sure you had a man's influence in your life," she said

"He's the one who taught me carpentry," he said. "I wouldn't be in this business if it weren't for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things he thought were important...Mom, I'll be there for the funeral," Jack said.

As busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught the next flight to his hometown. Mr. Belser's funeral was small and uneventful. He had no children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away.

The night before he had to return home, Jack and his Mom stopped by to see the old house next door one more time.

Standing in the doorway, Jack paused for a moment. It was like crossing over into another dimension, a leap through space and time The house was exactly as he remembered. Every step held memories. Every picture, every piece of furniture....Jack stopped suddenly.

"What's wrong, Jack?" his Mom asked.

"The box is gone," he said

"What box?" Mom asked.

"What box?" Mom asked.

"There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk. I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he'd ever tell me was 'the thing I value most,'" Jack said.

It was gone. Everything about the house was exactly how Jack remembered it, except for the box. He figured someone from the Belser family had taken it.

"Now I'll never know what was so valuable to him," Jack said. "I better get some sleep. I have an early flight home, Mom."

It had been about two weeks since Mr. Belser died Returning home from work one day Jack discovered a note in his mailbox. "Signature required on a package. No one at home. Please stop by the main post office within the next three days," the note read.

Early the next day Jack retrieved the package. The small box was old and looked like it had been mailed a hundred years ago. The handwriting was difficult to read, but the return address caught his attention. "Mr. Harold Belser" it read. Jack took the box out to his car and ripped open the package. There inside was the gold box and an envelope Jack's hands shook as he read the note inside.

"Upon my death, please forward this box and its contents to Jack Bennett. It's the thing I valued most in my life." A small key was taped to the letter. His heart racing, as tears filling his eyes, Jack carefully unlocked the box. There inside he found a beautiful gold pocket watch.

Running his fingers slowly over the finely etched casing, he unlatched the cover. Inside he found these words engraved:

"Jack, Thanks for your time! -Harold Belser."

"The thing he valued most was...my time"

Jack held the watch for a few minutes, then called his office and cleared his appointments for the next two days. "Why?" Janet, his assistant asked.

"I need some time to spend with my son," he said.

"Oh, by the way, Janet, thanks for your time!"

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away,"

Think about this. You may not realize it, but it's 100% true.

1. At least 2 people in this world love you so much they would die for you.

2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.

3. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.

4. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.

5. You mean the world to someone.

6. If not for you, someone may not be living.

7. You are special and unique.

8. When you think you have no chance of getting what you want, you probably won't get it, but if you trust God to do what's best, and wait on His time, sooner or later, you will get it or something better.

9. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good can still come from it.

10. When you think the world has turned its back on you, take a look: you most likely turned your back on the world.

11. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.

12. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks.

13 Always tell someone how you feel about them; you will feel much better when they know and you'll both be happy .

14. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they are great.

Take a few minutes to share this with all the people you care about, if you do so, you can certainly brighten someone's day and might alter their perspective on life...for the better.

After watching this issue go from public outcry to non-existent this documentary begs the question:

Hacking Democracy

This cautionary documentary exposes the vulnerability of computers - which count approximately 80% of America's votes in county, state and federal elections - suggesting that if our votes aren't safe, then our democracy isn't safe either.

Electronic voting machines count about 87% of the votes cast in America today. But are they reliable? Are they safe from tampering? From a current congressional hearing to persistent media reports that suggest misuse of data and even outright fraud, concerns over the integrity of electronic voting are growing by the day. And if the voting process is not secure, neither is America's democracy. The timely, cautionary documentary HACKING DEMOCRACY exposes gaping holes in the security of America's electronic voting system.

In the 2000 presidential election, an electronic voting machine recorded minus 16,022 votes for Al Gore in Volusia County, Fla. What about Demands and Emerging Needs?

When Alterian, a marketing software company, asked marketing service providers about their top challenges the results were no surprise. The primary five were analytics, data acquisition, database management, lead management and track ROI. Industry leaders seem to agree that the demand is for integrated-single serve solutions and this is leading providers to make strategic alliances.

Something I’ve not seen quite as much discussion about is the value of uniting marketing software and strategy to CRM strategy, because obviously CRM technology is the heart of sales solution software solutions. To refute this is in my opinion is to prevaricate the reality that failure to approach them holistically is nothing short of shortsighted, often denying consideration for the larger ecosystem in which the enterprise has to thrive.

Developing integrated answers to this jumble of defined challenges and needs points towards the need to identify the company’s core humanistic/social values. This in turn leads to expanding the idea of profitability to include social capital that can be leveraged for sustainability of the business and the context in which it has to operate/grow.

At the same time this means that new metrics and analytical tools must be developed to subsume this expanded understanding. It is clear that continuing to do business as usual is not the only alternative; in fact abiding short sided approaches to growth is guaranteed to create more problems simply because it is counterproductive it is destined not to be sustainable.

Now that Comfusion is firmly underway my attention is being drawn towards the need for companion tools for calculating and analyzing the ROI of this conceptual framework where the definition of profitability is expanded and represented systematically. I think that points to a clear next phase for this project.

Last week I was very excited about a very interesting application I ran across that I feel can work for this project to measure and standardize quality assurance. But I’m keeping quiet on that until my meeting with the company’s co-founder.

If the lessons learned thus far are any indicator (and they are) then the tools will emerge as the core concept evolves and garners support.

Last time you were invited to join me on a journey. And i've decided this is the time and place for exploring what the journey is about and why you need to come along. From a certain perspective this little adventure is like others that invite you to peek behind the curtain. Only in this case you see the wizard in control is you. Whatever you believe to be true, it is you who makes that decision so how can it be otherwise?

After you've gone down the rabbit hole, then what?

That's the dilemma that i faced that led me to take the dramatic step of moving my business to Comfusion

I know some people would say it's crazy to orchestrate the collision to jumpstart the formation of a new ring galaxy and I ask you this....

Have the solutions to the world's BIG problems ever come from what was being said by most people?

That being said, this isn't about some faceless mass of people. It is about you and me. I've invited you to join me on this journey accepting that we are discovering it as we go. And since i've started this blog it has been searching to find it's voice through me. Well, I believe Cultural Fusion was the magic connection that I'd been hoping for...

Now that i've found it i can't see saying no thanks, the risk is just to great. There's much more at risk IF i walk away and ignore the pull it has on me. i have willingly been swept up into the formation of new galaxy called comfusion. i'd like to actually invite you in to see what it looks like now, but i can't because the dust has yet to settle. What i mean is there's literally no place for you to step as of yet. Comfusion is in formation and that must be complete before construction can begin on Hotel Infinity, the luxurious accomodations being prepared for guests and members.

In the meantime what does that mean? For now what that means is that parts of the Cultural Fusion will be housed where they are expressed until a home is completed for them in Hotel Infinity. Right now it is Ron Wopereis who is allowing comfusion to grow in the same space that his Theory of Attention is evolving within.

For now that's the window into the formation of Comfusion. For me it's like watching a baby grow. And if you think i've gone too far, then ask yourself how far one needs to be willing to go to see an end to extreme poverty and slavery in this lifetime?

A lesson in how not to do business

For the last month or so I had been in a sense courting a signficiant potential client. Although I'm tempted to give names I will instead share this...because I thought one member of their team was a person of integrity I did not push the issue of signing a non-disclosure or non-compete agreement. In retrospect that was obviously a huge mistake (since the CEO is a legal expert) as I recently saw aspects of my presentation implemented within their organization. Sure, it could just be a coincedence, but I find that hard to believe under the specific circumstances. I sent a congratulatory message indicating that I was glad they found my ideas to be valuable and suddenly got no response.

If it had been some kind of misunderstanding, don't you think I would have at least gotten an apology or alternate explaination? All in all it worked out for the best because I wouldn't want to work with a company that operates that way, nor would I recommend them...that includes colleagues who look for places for their clients to advertise or form strategic partnerships. For legal reasons I won't publically smear them, but the experience has given me sufficient grounds to not recommend doing business with them to clients and peers.

I'm a firm believer in karma...besides what they ripped off was barely a hint of what my team could have done for them, so it's their loss. They got crumbs when I could have delivered (on budget) the cake with icing, the perfect decor and the ideal guests .

Moving on... in Your Business Marketing & Pursuit of Justice

Ahem….This may be old news now, but in case you read my previous piece on the Roberts confirmation here’s my follow up. Justice Roberts has been officially confirmed so I suppose congratulations are in order so I’d like to quote this Morgan Heritage song….
“Although the world is always turning, everyday something new we learn…
If your car breaks down in the middle of town, everything is still everything…”

Now let’s move onto the business marketing. Recently on one of the forums I’ve recently discovered someone had posted about difficulty getting serious leads. Another member recommended following up with a “no pressure” call to new leads and then continued follow up under the guise of developing a friendship. The underlying presumption being that people buy from their friends, while I don’t completely disagree the need for follow up is obvious but there is are far more subtle point that need to be addressed for real relationship building. Here was my response (with editing for spelling and a missed punctuation error) to that typical approach to marketing:

You definitely have a point there and that approach can work with some people. But if you have five reps asking to call you every other week plus send you an email on top of the newsletters you already subscribe to and the general daily onslaught of business and personal email...and oh, let's not forget the rest of life.

That can become a bit cumbersome very quickly and with too many people applying the same tactic...Well, it doesn't necessarily result in attracting the most productive recruits or the best customers. Let's face it, if your friend keeps asking you to help them who wouldn't initially give in if it simply meant signing up for their program or buying their product at least once? What then becomes of the friendship under those circumstances? How long will you keep calling if they don't keep reordering or producing sales for you? Does that then mean the key to success would be conditional friendships? Honestly, isn't that more like an associate? For me calling that a friendship is a bit dishonest.

I think advertising and marketing overload have made it a requirement that marketing be thought of in a different context with acceptance of certain (nearly) universal realities. But that's just my opinion.

Haliburton Whistleblower as a Marketing Message?

Today any marketing campaign depends on a relationship marketing strategy if it is to be successful. Haliburton has certainly dealing with that issue, because even though shareholders maybe happy (for now) the relationship nightmare has to have them worrying about customers and the public relations damage. It seems the strategy has mostly been to stay quiet, but how long can that play hold out?

The lessons are many, but it is yet another warning regarding the misuse of relationships and trust. Wait, this does have a marketing tie-in...reaching your customers means putting yourself out there a bit and supporting them in what is important to them.

In my case, that's relationships and so often in interpersonal relationships people may misdirect their frustrations with the political/social situation. The solution is helping to empower them to be proactive.

It's worth considering making this kind of strategy the focal point of your campaign. Of course, you will never get the sale if you don't just ask for it, but focus your content on serving the customer.

Have you ever been to The Delta and had the experience of getting to know the folks that define the region?

Without a doubt the top story in relation to hurricane Katrina has been the lives lost and devastated. Are you trapped in a bad relationship?

Before I continue with this, understand I'm not talking about domestic violence. If you're being abused you need to leave immediately and get help. It won't get better until you remove yourself. As a child I witnessed the horror of domestic violence, and the best thing that ever happened was my Mother having the courage to leave. In doing so, she saved us both. I will be forever grateful to her for that and all the other gifts she's given to me...perhaps the greatest being to model what love in action looks like.

Sure I could sugar coat this to avoid offending anyone, but there simply is no getting around this....

NO ONE CAN MAKE YOU FEEL INFERIOR WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT.

Now that's not to say that I'm not sympathetic to those of you who feel you're suffering in a bad relationship, but the bottom line is you grant your consent by your presence in the relationship. Perhaps, you feel your situation isn't that simple.....It's complicated.

Maybe, that's true. But that doesn't change the facts of the matter and it doesn't mean your situation is hopeless. Far from it.

In fact, it isn't even as simple as leaving the bad relationship because unless you address the root issues....why you're in that kind of relationship....chances are that you'll simply end up in another bad relationship.

There's a much anticipated documenaty called "Bling: A Planet Rock" by Raquel Cepeda, co-director and former editor-in-chief of Russell Simmons’ One World Magazine. She's set to travel back to Sierra Leone with some of America’s most popular rap artists in December. Why Desperate Housewives + Sex in the City=Edutainment TV today

I considered softening that title with a question mark, but in my mind it's not much of a question.

First, let's establish just what I mean by edutainment.

Edutainment- leisure programs that educate as well entertain.

Let's take a brief look at why I've singled out these two programs. I turned on the TV a couple of days ago and saw a promo for another channel that will be bringing Sex in the City beyond the realm of HBO. I paused to think about how many women I'd heard use a character on the show as some frame of reference. The show has taken on viral proportions in syndication and that made me wonder if a similar fate awaited the newly touted Desperate Housewives.

Remember that book that was born from that now infamous catch phrase, "...just not into you" that has become a part of the American lexicon? Isn't that evidence that the show is teaching whether the people involved in creating it want it to or not. Sure some could argue the value of that particular lesson, but why doesn't anyone ask this one....

What kind of person doesn't know this when they're fast approaching 40 years of age?

I mean, how many years of dating, being dumped, sleeping around, and generally degrading yourself does it take to get that? I was trying to school my friends on that kind of stuff when I was 14 years old and I have the letters to prove it ;-)

I think there's a huge problem if a television show, rather than your life is educating you about how not to be a fool. The scores of women who reportedly wrote into the show inspiring the writing of the book mentioned previously are proof of the point I'm making here.

What you do is either taking you closer to or further away from what you really desire.

The problem, as I see it, is with the miseducation that occurs even more frequently as women look to these kind of shows to understand themselves or their lives. Prompted by a client who swore by the show, I did watch the final episode. Who thought that having the man you love finally presenting you with his real first name was indicative of a happy ending?

Now Desperate Housewives offers married, and often middle aged women, the same buffet served on a different table. The meal still stinks. Perhaps the designer fashions and parade of "beautiful people" are supposed to distract from the ugliness of the stories?

Why are there so many wedding magazines, television shows, books and websites while at the same time it's considered passe to end a movie with a wedding? How did this notion of right person for now morph into the notion marriage?

In my conversations with women I am surprised by how many religously watch week after week until the characters become the friends that understand their deepest and darkest secrets or inspire them to make secret fantasies reality.

Am I the only one struck by the lack of depth of this kind of characterization of women's lives? Why are so many people relating to these lost to themselves, materialistic, shallow people that television art has breathed life into?

Better yet, if you're one of those people, do you aspire to fill yourselves on a rehashed meal that someone has scooped off the floor or does that variety of edutainment inspire you to be more...to be better, not just on the surface but in the quality of person that you are inside. Or perhaps you just want validation that you're not as messed up as you fear?

The life you move through each day is the result of what's going inside, whether you admit it or not. Even if your secrets are well kept, you know what they are, you live every day fearing everyone else will know too. That is a point that goes right to the heart of what real self esteem is based on or why it is severely lacking.

So much emphasis is placed on how things appear that I fear no one cares anymore about what a thing, or a person, actually IS. What I see in magazines, commercials, and TV shows doesn't resemble anything I'd classify as beautiful....It is mostly empty and pushing the same old misogynistic images of women that mainstream media has always hyped (with few exceptions).

As a woman I know we tend to define ourselves by our closest relationships. But what happens when you avoid facing your true motivations for creating the life/relationships you have?

I guess if there's any value, besides to the advertisers for whom the show was really created, it'd be that it could prompt viewer (loyal or otherwise) to ask themselves this question.....

What unmet needs are being denied that drive someone to become their own worst enemy? And more importanly---

What's it going to take to change that?
