Homeopathy is considered an effective means to treat and cure any type of cancer. It is specially recognized for its miraculous cure of Throat cancer. The treatment method in Homeopathy branch is simple and just makes use of a few drops of medicines to heal cells that are cancerous. The patient undergoing treatment under homeopathy medicine can escape operations and removal of any body part.
Any stage of throat cancer can be treated with homeopathy medicines. The medicines just kill cells that are cancerous and normal cells are not damaged as it happens in Chemotherapy, radiotherapy and Biopsy methods of cancer treatment under allopathy.
There is no doubt that early diagnosis makes cancer treatment easy. The cancerous cells can then be destroyed before they start spreading. A very common cause for throat cancer is excessive consumption of alcohol and tobacco smoking. Chewing of tobacco can also lead to this form of cancer. Tobacco causes damage to the DNA of the mouth and throat cells. This leads to cellular distortion and abnormality that ultimately results in throat cancer. Homeopathy with its well researched treatment methodologies and diet pattern can prolong the life of cancer patient for years.
Patients can also find promising cure if they make little adjustments in their lifestyle. The beauty about homeopathic medicines is that they are prescribed in very low doses. The medicines then act on the tumor that contains the cancer cells to eliminate it from the body. Treatment of cancer is thus possible with Homeopathy medicines if one takes doses as prescribed by a learned practitioner.

As breast cancer is a disease that is on the rise, there are several things that can be done to help prevent its development. The main thing that we can all do, both men and women (men can get this disease as well) is to adopt and maintain a healthier lifestyle. Way to do this include: eating more greens and fiber and having a lower fat intake, exercising regularly, getting enough rest and adopting a positive outlook on life.
Now, that last one may have some of you scratching your head, but it is integral. We become what we think about. So the more we keep our thoughts upbeat, the more good things "seem to" happen to us. When one is happy and content, the body responds to that and gives more energy and heightened immune levels. Conversely, when one is not, we feel tired and possibly sick.
The tips listed above are generally common sense and go a long way to helping prevent breast cancer. I will cover a couple of options you may not know about below.
One prevention method is known as chemoprevention. Essentially, this is the use of drugs. For breast cancer in particular selective estrogen receptor modulator is used. What this drug does is block estrogen absorption in the receptors, which causes any cancer cells to stop growing.
One drug that is approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and has been proven to decrease lumps and cysts and can be used in both early and later stages of breast cancer. Side effects can include weight gain and increased uterine cancer risk.
Another option is what is know as preventive mastectomy. This is the surgical removal of the breast or both breasts. This is a somewhat extreme preventative measure against breast cancer, but can reduce the risk by close to 90%. However, not all of the infected tissue may be removed, so there is still some risk of cancer development.
There are also natural methods for the prevention of breast cancer that are less invasive. Whatever method one chooses, it is important to discuss all options with your doctor and family. The options listed here can go a long way to reducing the risk of breast cancer.
She also said the doctor told her that the chemicals have been found in breast tissue and these chemicals can lead to breast cancer.
Articles on the Internet referenced the websites of organizations that had previously addressed this concern, including Breastcancer.org and Plasticsmythbusters.org, which is affiliated with the American Chemistry Council. Both organizations considered the connection between plastic water bottles and breast cancer risk to be "an urban myth" and say the theory is unproven.
The fact that a direct causal connection has not yet been proven beyond a shred of doubt does not mean that the theory is a myth.
It has been proven that phthalates, which are compounds used as softeners and plasticizers for products made with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) accelerate breast cell growth in animal studies. These chemicals have also been found to adversely affect the reproductive and endocrine system, especially in baby boys. In a recent study, phthalates were recently linked to low testosterone levels which appears to cause increased belly fat and pre-diabetes in men.
These softeners and plasticizers are used in a variety of consumer and personal care products including food packaging materials, toys, and medical/pharmaceutical devices and drugs. The most commonly used phthalate is DEHP. Food contamination has definitely been found to occur when plastic food packaging materials are made from PVC that was treated with phthalates.
As a general rule, we should not cook or heat foods in most plastics. This caveat is especially applicable to old plastic containers in which the surface is eroding the concern being based upon the fact that plasticizers are released during heating. Not all plastic containers are microwaveable. Look for directions regarding this on the packaging.
According to a panel doctor on Breastcancer.org, scientists make sure that during animal studies they don't contaminate experiments with plastics by using old plastic equipment that have been used and washed many times. Don't you think you should be a little more concern about contaminating your body?
It is possible that water left in the car where the temperature can almost reach the boiling point may be cause for similar concern. It may not be one incident of drinking water from a heated plastic bottle that leads to increased cancer risk, but an accumulation of several risky behaviors or exposure related to plastics just may promote cancer.
We don't know definitively all the causes of cancer, but we are exposed to so many possible agents that may contribute to cancer, some of them are naturally occurring and some are man-made that there will never be ample epidemiological human studies or data that prove or disprove these "myths." Some of these agents may not directly cause cancer alone, but they can cause direct damage to genes or disrupt the immune system or alter the hormone balance in such a way as to create a fertile environment for cancer cells to grow.
Another of these "myths" that have circulated on the Internet for several years is that using underarm deodorants or antiperspirants that contain parabens can cause breast cancer. And the consensus among scientists is there is no connection between antiperspirants and breast cancer.
Nevertheless, researchers found six different kinds of parabens in the breast cancer tissue samples of women who were being treated for breast cancer. All of the samples contained some parabens. The amount of parabens in the samples was about equal to the amount that had caused breast cancer cells to grow in test tubes in earlier studies.
The researchers concluded that these chemicals enter breast tissue from outside sources and accumulate in levels high enough to trigger the growth of breast cancer cells. Parabens are also used to preserve foods, medicines, and cosmetics. So there are lots of opportunities for exposure to these chemicals.
Another contributor to breast cancer was recently reported in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. Cadmium, a toxic heavy metal that can build up in the body over time was linked to increased breast cancer risk.
Researchers measured cadmium levels in the urine samples from a group of women and found that women with the highest cadmium levels had twice the breast cancer risk of those with the lowest levels.
People may be exposed to cadmium from tobacco smoke and some foods such as liver, kidney, crustaceans (lobsters, crabs, and shrimp), and canned fish. People who work with cadmium or in refining and smelting are also exposed, but the U.S. government limits such on-the-job exposure.
But once again, we have the usual disclaimer: "The study doesn't prove cadmium exposure causes breast cancer. It will take more research to figure that out."
There will never be ample animal studies, much less human epidemiological data that prove or disprove definitively that any specific product or chemicals cause breast cancer in humans. I think it is wise to avoid suspect materials whenever possible. There is usually enough data to conclude whether or not a substance presents a risk that is harmful to your health and may contribute to breast cancer.
Many of these suspect chemicals do not affect only breast cancer risk; they are frequently harmful to the cardiovascular system and overall health.
Consumer reaction that should result if the available data were widely publicized could force consumer product manufacturers and food packagers to search for alternatives.

The chances to getting sick of prostate cancer increases substantially as you get older, usually after the age of 50. But beside the age, the main risk factors can be the ethnicity, the higher risk is encountered more at African men, the family history is a well known reason, the risk of the disease is higher if someone of your family had or has prostate cancer, the diet is also a factor, in specially the diet abundant in fats, vasectomy increased the risks, but the high level of testosterone too. If you know the risk factors and the symptoms, you can easily discover if you are ill and you'll go to the doctor early. Thus, the chances to cure are better.
Prostate cancer is generally considered a slow growing carcinoma. This means you may have many high quality of life years ahead of you if you're respecting all diets and instructions from your doctor. As you get older, your risk of contracting prostate cancer rises, in special over 50 years. Men have a lifetime risk or chance of contracting a prostate malignancy of about one in ten and that chance increases as we get older.
Life expectancy after a diagnosis of prostate cancer will depend on what stage the cancerous tumor has progressed to, your age and by you to consider all treatment options. In the end, prostate cancer survivability rests with early diagnosis and effective treatment. Since we use the early detection tests for prostate cancer became fairly common (the prostate cancer death rate has dropped significant but it has not been proven that this is a direct result of screening.
Even the most men have no symptoms, here are some ways to find out if you are ill or not. Most men find out that they are ill when they are examined through a digital rectal procedure, but usually the symptoms appears when the tumor causes urinary blockage, located in the bladder neck or urethra. Some of men accuse difficulty during the urination, usually at start or stop of the urinary stream, or appears the urinary retention, blood in the urine, impotence because of the disability to have an erection. In the last phase of the disease, when the prostate cancer has spread, appears fatigue, malaise and weight loss, bone pain and bone fractures. Those symptoms provide you warrant going to see a doctor and take your treatment.
Many of us think like that, but the fact that untreated prostate cancer leads to death is not, in and of itself, an indication for intervention. Treatment must lower the risk of death to justify any intervention. There are plenty of things that you can do with the information read here. Remember what you have been and you'll take the decisions easier.

Talk about breast cancer and naturally, people think of the disease that is the number one cancer among women. But the truth is that breast cancer is on the rise among both women and men, and researchers think the national obesity crisis may be to blame.
With two-thirds of Americans now overweight, we can probably expect more obesity-related cancers. But on the brighter side, weight problems are extremely treatable, even preventable. So to the extent overweight is contributing to cancer, this is one risk factor we may actually have some real control over.
Just how we go about getting that control appears to be critical, though. Even among the most motivated of people, we see that very few are successful in independent efforts to lose weight, even if their life depends on it. And among cancer patients, it clearly does.
Consider some of the numbers: breast cancer in women increased by 52 percent from 1973 to 1998. Part of that increase can be accounted for by better detection, because mammography is much more available than it was 30 years ago. But use of post-menopausal estrogen supplements has also become routine, and these have been clearly linked to cancer in women.
But in that same period, incidence of breast cancer among men increased by 26 percent, and that's without the ingested estrogen and without the extra detection offered by mammography, since men typically don't pursue that procedure.
So what else is going on? Experts say the increase in breast cancer in both sexes seems to closely track the increase in American obesity, giving rise to the theory that the obesity crisis may actually be to blame for the boom in breast cancer.
Obesity has been shown to have a clear relationship with some cancers, but not with others. For instance, there does not appear to be any correlation between overweight and prostate cancer in men. Or sometimes, the relation is clear, but the reasons aren't. Hence, researchers are looking at whether acid reflux in overweight people might account for their greater incidence of esophogeal cancer.
But with breast cancer, there is at least one known culprit: all that excess estrogen. Fatty tissue produces estrogen, in both men and women.
Studies of menopausal women make the case most clearly. Before menopause, the ovaries are the primary source of estrogen. But after menopause, when the ovaries have retired from that duty, fatty tissues are the main estrogen source.
Among postmenopausal women, estrogen levels are 50 to 100 percent higher in heavy women, compared to those of healthy weight. Similar ratios are found among men.
And when estrogen-sensitive tissues get more estrogen exposure, that leads to more growth of estrogen-responsive breast tumors.
Researchers figure that between 11,000 and 18,000 breast cancer deaths per year could be avoided in American women over age 50, if they could maintain a healthy body weight throughout their adult lives. There are no similar guesstimates for men, because while breast cancer is a growing problem for men, there is little research on mortality rates among males, and it is still less of a concern than heart disease or prostate and colon cancer.
But obesity puts men at higher risk for these diseases, as well, so the imperative is to drop that excess weight, or at least some of it. There's abundant evidence that even a minor weight loss reaps huge rewards for health. So how do you do it?
It's tough, especially if you're an older person, and the average age of diagnosis for breast cancer is 62 among women, and 67 among men.
Motivation counts, but the research shows that it's not enough. People need help. For instance, who would be more motivated to lose weight than a heavy person who had already survived cancer?
An overweight survivor has a double whammy when it comes to risk of recurrence, but a study published earlier this year in Obesity Research said that even among that motivated group, people left to their own devices, or those who only had a group program did not achieve much weight loss.
This is no surprise to those of us who have treated obesity for years. We see people who have tried diet after diet, joined gym and club and fellowship alike, all to no avail. But when they are treated with a comprehensive diet and lifestyle modification program that has been designed specifically for them, things change.
In this latest study, the researchers were pretty unequivocal, concluding that "for breast cancer survivors to lose weight to reduce risk factors, intervention is necessary. Of the different intervention regimens, individualized counseling combined with attending weekly ... meetings was most effective...."
When you're facing a chocolate éclair, death is perhaps too abstract an idea, even if you've only narrowly escaped it. Without some real retraining, it's hard to equate even the greasiest burger with a lethal tumor. But professional support makes all the difference.
For instance, I've been tracking insulin levels in weight management patients for years, because we know that high insulin levels indicate a metabolic abnormality that leads to diabetes and weight gain. Now recent research shows that elevated insulin levels are also a risk factor for breast cancer recurrence.
Yet very specific changes in lifestyle and diet can significantly reduce insulin levels in days to weeks, immediately reducing those disease risks. The disembodied threat of disease is sometimes hard for people to get their arms around, but when patients can look at their lab results and see how their behavioral changes directly affect their blood chemistry, it hits home.
What happens to patients' bodies on the inside as they lose weight is more important than the changes they get on the outside, but even at the best health clubs or peer support groups, they won't have an opportunity to see that.
It's inspiring to see how people embrace a fitness and weight-loss program when they have more than just a bathroom scale to tell them that it's working. Consistent and reliable guidance is essential because nobody goes from obese to healthy overnight. It takes time.
But cancer takes time, too, so the race is on. With the proper help, this is a race both men and women have great odds of winning.
THROUGH THICK & THIN
Breast cancer is a growing risk for both men and women, and it's a cancer for which the obesity link has been clearly established. Fat produces excess estrogen; excess estrogen produces breast cancer. And in the reverse, weight loss reduces cancer risk. The data are clear, but it doesn't make the task any easier. What does make it easier, and more successful, is professional help - and the sooner the better.

Nontraditional methods have really taken root in areas where traditional medicine often falls short, such as pain management. But since the National Institutes of Health established the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine a decade ago, the center has found the potential of nontraditional approaches.
No wonder when we consulted top doctors, the response was overwhelmingly positive. Next time you're dealing with pain after breast cancer surgery, you may consider one of the following therapies.
ACUPUNCTURE
Use small needle to stimulate specific spot on the body to ease breast cancer symptoms and balancing the body's energy, applying a needle to particular area can cause your body release endorphins which help you relax.
This therapy can reducing side effect of breast cancer treatments and has a long track record of easing nausea associated with chemotherapy and surgery. Acupuncture was more effective at reducing nausea and vomiting after major breast cancer surgery than antinausea medications, according research at Duke University.
Some radiation oncologist originally set out to disprove acupuncture technique, but now they routinely recommends it to breast cancer patients during and after radiation to reducing fatigue and nausea. Data shown that acupuncture can help relieve pain and improve functioning in people with breast cancer.
YOGA
Combines specific postures, breathing and relaxation to strengthen and stretch the body and calm the mind. Yoga increase flexibility and stretches the muscles in away that help reduce discomfort and pain after breast cancer surgery.
Easing physical effect of stress, yoga helps relieve the anxiety associated with breast cancer illness and helped breast cancer patients sleep better. And patients who took up yoga practice use less medication.
NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS
Herbs, vitamins and minerals can help deficiencies and lower breast cancer risk. Vitamin D deficiency has increased risk of several diseases including breast cancer.
According Creighton University research, postmenopausal woman who took vitamin D supplement for four years had a lower risk for breast cancer than those who didn't. But it's not a one-size-fits-all recommendation because our body makes it as a result of sun exposure, and this varies from person to person.
MEDITATION
When you meditate, you focus on a word, an object or your own breath as you exhale to quiet your mind and relax your body. Meditation may decrease activity in the autonomic nervous system, which results in a lower heart rate and relaxation of blood vessels.
Meditation can help people lower their dose of blood medication and relieve stress before and after breast cancer surgery. Meditation reduces stress almost instantly and it can boost breast cancer patient's healing. Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, recommended meditation as one way to relieve stress.
HYPNOTHERAPY
A therapist guides you to a state called restful alertness, which may make you more open to suggestions that can change your state of mind and improve your health. When something physically hurts you the effected nerve or muscle sends a signal to brain, and under hypnosis you can train your mind to interpret the signal differently as less intense.
One study showed that getting hypnosis prior to breast cancer surgery reduced women's need for anesthesia as well as postoperative nausea and discomfort.

Unlike other illnesses, breast cancer is not actually caused by any specific factor. In fact, it is actually caused by the a host of different factors that often interact with each other. Breast cancer occurs when some cells in the breasts start to abnormally grow and spread to other tissues of the body. These cells are the ones that we call tumor cells. Contrary to popular opinion, not all tumors cause cancer. There are tumors that are actually benign and therefore cannot spread to the other parts of the body. These are not fatal. Malignant tumors however are the ones that grow and invade other tissue cells in the body. Ducts and glands are their primary targets.
Unknown to many, there are actually different kinds of breast cancer. Understanding each one can help you make sense of this condition that has claimed more than 40,000 lives in the United States alone and is the second leading cause of cancer death in the country after lung cancer. Here are some of the types and their descriptions:
Carcinoma in situ
This is the term that is often used for early stage cancer, especially when it is confined to a specific place where it first began. For instance, as mentioned before, breast cancer often starts at ducts and lobules. Carcinoma is used if the abnormal cells have not yet spread to other parts of the breast and has only remained at the root location. This is actually considered the stage 0 in breast cancer staging. Although this increases the risk of developing breast cancer in the future, this is actually not considered as already a breast cancer.
Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS)
The most common form of non-invasive breast cancer, DCIS is a term that is used to define cancer cells that have remained in the ducts and have not yet spread through its wall. This means that the fatty tissues that surround the breast have not been affected. Among the types of breast cancer, this is the most curable. In fact, most women with this condition get cured, perhaps because the cells are concentrated in just one area of the body.
Lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS)
Although not really breast cancer in the strictest sense, the lobular carcinoma in situ or LCIS for short should still be a cause of alarm as this problem can increase the risk of women getting cancer later in life. The condition is actually caused by the fact that the milk-making glands of the body do not get through the lobule walls.
Infiltrating (invasive) ductal carcinoma (IDC)
This is the most common form of breast cancer, accounting for about 80 percent of all invasive breast cancer cases. Often, cancerous cells starts in the milk passages and go through the ducts, breaks in the walls of walls of the ducts and spreads to the other parts of the breasts. If not detected and treated early, this kind of breast cancer can easily spread to the other parts of the body.
Infiltrating (invasive) lobular carcinoma (ILC)
Unlike the IDC, the infiltrating lobular carcinoma starts at the lobules instead of the ducts. The movement of the cancer cells are also the same. It goes through the passages and when left undetected and treated, can actually invade other cells in other parts of the body. This however is not as common, accounting for only 10 percent of the invasive breast cancer cases.

Surviving lung cancer means more than just beating the physical disease. There are also emotional and mental challenges that come with dealing with cancer. Learning to live with the disease and the required treatments and medical visits that arise because of it is crucial to survival.
The treatments for cancer can be harsh on the body. Surgery may remove a tumor, but it may also remove parts of or entire organs in the process. After surviving the cancer procedure itself, patients must then learn to survive the new condition they find their bodies in. It is possible that the body will function differently due to the surgery. Procedures like chemotherapy and radiotherapy can also have lasting effects on a patient's general health.
In addition to these physical challenges, many patients also experience emotional trials as a result of being diagnosed with lung cancer and undergoing therapy to treat it. Some fear that the cancer will return after it has been treated. Others find it difficult to cope with the lasting effects of the cancer and the way it interrupts their daily life. They could also experience a sense of isolation if they perceive that their loved ones don't or can't understand their feelings.
Negative feelings arising because of cancer are not unusual. The tribulation of surviving the disease - hearing the diagnosis, undergoing therapy, coping with side effects - commonly causes uncertainty and negativity. Those struggling to survive with lung cancer may feel depressed or anxious because of the disease. It is also not unusual for patients to experience anger and fear due to their illness.
Coping with these emotions is part of the challenge of surviving lung cancer. The first step to doing that is simply to admit that those emotions are there and to try to discern why. Additionally, it is important to realize that these reactions are natural and normal, and may even be helpful.
Anger can result from a diagnosis of lung cancer. Feeling angry about being the one struck with the disease, the one who has to endure the stress and worry of treatment, is normal. Some find that this anger is actually a motivating force as they learn to survive with lung cancer. It can help patients to become assertive about what they want and need from treatment. In patients who do not find their anger motivating and helpful, it is possible to include counseling as part of their new routine for surviving the cancer.
In contrast to anger, other patients could feel depressed as they attempt to survive with lung cancer. Some patients no longer feel like their usual selves and lose interest in the things that had been their favorite activities before their diagnosis. Depression can be destructive. A patient who has survived lung cancer but is now depressed may need support from loved ones in order to cope with their new reality.
Despite any of these feelings, patients surviving with lung cancer should take pro-active steps to managing their disease and going on with their lives. Eating a healthy diet it one way to do this, as a balanced diet not only promotes general good healthy, but can also help patients feel like they are in control of some aspect of their lives still. Exercise also promotes good health and can reduce the risk of the lung cancer returning or spreading.

Adam Bradley is a book publisher of How-To and information books. While doing research on surviving lung cancer, he was shocked by the tremendous amount of bad information, scams, and bogus agencies. He felt that having to spend countless hours sorting articles and web pages just to find help during a period when time is of the essence was absurd.

Skin cancer is the most common form of human cancer. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. Skin cancer generally develops in the epidermis, the outermost layer of skin, so a tumor is usually clearly visible. There are three major types of skin cancer -- basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. Basal cell carcinomas and most squamous cell carcinomas are slow growing and highly treatable, especially if found early. Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer. It affects deeper layers of the skin and has the greatest potential to spread to other tissues in the body. Squamous cell carcinoma also can spread internally. It is estimated that over 1 million new cases occur annually. The annual rates of all forms of skin cancer are increasing each year, representing a growing public concern. It has also been estimated that nearly half of all Americans who live to age 65 will develop skin cancer at least once. They usually form on the head, face, neck, hands and arms. Another type of skin cancer, melanoma, is more dangerous but less common. For localized melanoma, the 5-year survival rate is 99%; survival rates for regional and distant stage diseases are 65% and 15%, respectively.
Skin cancer is an increasingly common condition. This is in part attributed to increased exposure to ultraviolet radiation, which in turn is thought to be caused by the increased popularity of sun tanning. Solar or actinic keratoses are rough, red or brown, scaly patches on the skin. They are usually found on areas exposed to the sun, and sometimes develop into squamous cell cancer. Moles are clusters of heavily pigmented skin cells, either flat or raised above the skin surface. While most pose no danger, some-particularly large moles present at birth, or those with mottled colors and poorly defined borders-may develop into malignant melanoma. Moles are frequently removed for cosmetic reasons, or because they're constantly irritated by clothing or jewelry. Skin cancer develops primarily on areas of sun-exposed skin, including the scalp, face, lips, ears, neck, chest, arms and hands, and on the legs in women. There are varieties of treatments available, including surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy, to treat skin cancer.
The goals of treatment for skin cancer are to remove all of the cancer, reduce the chance of recurrence, preserve healthy skin tissue, and minimize scarring after surgery. Treatment for skin cancer depends on the type and size of cancer, your age, and your overall health. Surgery is the most common form of treatment. It generally consists of an office or outpatient procedure to remove the lesion and check edges to make sure all the cancer was removed. Most skin cancer removal can be done using a local anesthetic. Excisional biopsy - The entire tumor along with a margin of tissue that is not a visible part of the tumor is removed. Incisional biopsy - A portion of the lesion is removed during an incisional biopsy, which is usually performed when the lesion is large. In cryosurgery, tissue is destroyed by freezing to -40 ° C or below. Liquid nitrogen, the only cryogen effective in destroying malignant and premalignant skin tumors, is used. Radiation may destroy basal and squamous cell carcinomas if surgery isn't an option. Biological therapy-Interferon and interleukin-2 are under study to treat melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancers.
Skin Cancer Treatment Tips
1. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, especially between 10 a.m. And 2 p.m. and during the summer months.
2. Excisional skin surgery is a common treatment to remove skin cancer.
3. Mohs surgery (also called Mohs micrographic surgery) is often used for skin cancer. The area of the growth is numbed.
4. Electrodesiccation and curettage is often used to remove small basal cell skin cancers.
5. Cryosurgery is often used for people who are not able to have other types of surgery.
6. Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
7. Use a high-factor sunscreen of at least SPF15 that filters out UVB and UVA and reapply it every two hours.
8. Wear protective clothing - a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and loose, tightly woven clothing

Breast cancer is a cancer of the glandular breast tissue. Breast cancer affects one in eight women during their lives. Breast cancer may be one of the oldest known forms of cancer tumors in humans. Breast cancer kills more women in the United States than any cancer except lung cancer. Breast cancer is the most common cause of cancer in women and the second most common cause of cancer death in women in the U.S. While the majority of new breast cancers are diagnosed as a result of an abnormality seen on a mammogram, a lump or change in consistency of the breast tissue can also be a warning sign of the disease. Breast cancer is the most common cause of death in women between the ages of 45 and 55. Although breast cancer in women is a common form of cancer, male breast cancer does occur and accounts for about 1% of all cancer deaths in men. Breast cancer usually begins with the formation of a small, confined tumor. Some tumors are benign, meaning they do not invade other tissue; others are malignant, or cancerous. Malignant tumors have the potential to metastasize, or spread. Some risk factors, such as your age, and family history, can't be changed, whereas others, including weight, smoking and a poor diet, are under your control.
A woman's risk of breast cancer is higher mother, sister, or daughter had breast cancer. The risk can actually be lower if you have a short menstrual life, large family or first child before age 18 years. Men have a lower risk of developing breast cancer (approximately 1.08 per 100,000 men per year), but this risk appears to be rising. Other risks include being overweight, using hormone replacement therapy, taking birth control pills, drinking alcohol, not having children or having your first child after age 35 or having dense breasts. Alcohol appears to increase the risk of breast cancer, though meaningful increases are limited to higher alcohol intake levels. Breast cancer constitutes about 7.3% of all cancers. Symptoms of breast cancer may include a lump in the breast, a change in size or shape of the breast or discharge from a nipple. Most breast lumps are benign, that is, they are not cancer. Benign breast tumors are abnormal growths, but they do not spread outside of the breast and they are not life threatening.
Treatment of breast cancer include Radiation Therapy, Chemotherapy, Hormone Therapy, and Immune Therapy. Certain foods, vitamins, or minerals may interfere with cancer treatment. Drink plenty of fluids but avoid drinks during meals because they may cause a bloated feeling. Proteins: May provide protein, iron, zinc, and B vitamins. Meats, beans, nuts, and seeds provide these benefits. Some seeds, like almonds, are good sources of vitamin E. Dairy products: Milk and cheese provide calcium, protein, and vitamin B12. Grains: Breads, pasta, rice, and cereals provide carbohydrates and B vitamins. Carbohydrates are an important source of energy. Eat cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, bok choy, and brussel sprouts - which contain plant phytochemicals that lower blood estrogen levels by increasing the estrogen detoxification capacity of the liver. Try cool foods. Warm foods may worsen nausea. Do not eat or drink until vomiting is under control.
Breast Cancer Treatrment and Diet Tips
1.Eat a diet lower in fat, ideally no more than 18% of your daily caloric intake.
2. Use "good" fats -- monounsaturated and omega-3 fats - from olive oil, flax seed oil, almond oil and canola oil, as well as fats from deep-sea fish.
3. Eat cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, bok choy, and brussel sprouts.
4. Eat a diet high in fiber, with plant-based sources of protein.
5. Soy, aim for 1 to 2 servings of soy products per day.
6. Tea (black or green), aim for 3 to 5 servings per day.
7. Nitrates and nitrites, avoid cured meats when possible.
8. Carbohydrates are an important source of energy.

Breast cancer has earned the disrepute of becoming the second-most killing type of all cancers that are found in humans, having lost the race only to lung cancer. About one in every ten women has chances of developing breast cancer if precautions are not taken early on. Despite this alarming number of its victims, it is pathetic to know that there is an absolute lack of information on the disease. It is not that there is no written material available about the disease, but most women are too complacent regarding the problem. It is always the 'disease that affects the other woman so it doesn't bother me' until it is too late to remedy the situation.
Breast cancer is the abnormal growth of cells within the breast. These cells would aggregate like a lump, which would be called as the breast tumor. The tumor can be felt from the outside of the breast even when it is still harmless. At this harmless stage, it is called as a benign tumor. Benign tumors can be surgically operable. If that is done, the risk of the advancement of the breast cancer is very negligible. But if the tumor is allowed to go on, then it would continue to the malignant stage. During this stage the cancer would proliferate to such an extent within the surrounding tissues that it would be impossible to remove it completely. When the cancerous cells enter the bloodstream, there is no way out. The result is certain death.
Hence it is important to snuff out the breast cancer while it is still benign, and perhaps that is the only way to keep the cancer at bay once it occurs. But most women do not know that there are various ways to reduce the risk of contracting breast cancers. Since breast cancer can strike just about any woman, it is extremely necessary to pay attention to these methods that can help to prevent the disease. The following are the precautions that women must take to prevent the onset of breast cancer:-
(1) If you are overweight, then seriously work at reducing your weight. Science has proved a direct relation between obesity and breast cancer. At the same time, lean women have a significantly lesser chance of contracting the disease.
(2) Do not introduce any supplements in your body that could change the internal hormonal balance of the body. In women, the two main feminine character deciding hormones are progesterone and estrogen. These hormones maintain the proper balance of the female characteristics, including the shape and the function of the breasts. An alteration in this balance could bring on several female health related diseases, among which breast cancer is just one of them.
(3) Smoking is extremely hazardous in women as it can play havoc with the biological rhythm of the body. Excessive smoking could cause sterility in both the male and the female. But in women, smoking has been found (by statistical analysis) that women who smoke stand at a much higher risk of breast cancer than others. The same can be said about women who consume too much of alcohol.
(4) Walking is considered to be effective in keeping breast cancer away. Walking is a simple exercise, but it can keep the woman's body fit. Also walking stimulates proper blood circulation in all parts of the body without making the person excessively tired. Apart from walking, other simple exercises like running, jumping, swimming, etc. are also effective.
(5) All women over the age of 40 are at a risk of breast cancer. Hence they should keep their lifestyle healthy. The diet should be kept as natural as possible, and artificial spices and preservatives must be avoided. Elderly women should not lead sedentary lifestyles; they must involve themselves in some kind of physical activity or the other, depending on their lifestyles.
(6) There has been a kind of an association established with high fats and breast cancers. Women whose diet consists of a lot of fats are more susceptible to getting breast cancers than others. For this reason, it is necessary to minimize fats in the diet as much as possible. Instead of high-calorie fats, a low fat diet is preferable. This will also help to keep obesity and cardiovascular problems in check.
Breast cancer prevention is more important than the treatment of the cancer itself, because prevention is always better than cure. The above precautions will greatly reduce the risk of having a cancer, but then they are not sure-shot methods. Medical science has not yet been able to come up with a good explanation as to why some women get breast cancers and some don't. Hence at the slightest sign of any abnormality with your breasts, it is necessary to seek urgent medical attention. Your vigilance might save your life.

Breast cancer could very well be placed at number one among all the killer diseases in women today. This type of cancer accounts for 26% of all the cancers in women. As such, it is largest killer cancer of all people in world, except maybe lung cancer. With so many women becoming victims of breast cancer each year, it should be thought that the medical fraternity must be having very detailed information about it. But that is hardly the case. Despite the millions of women dying each year, the causes, mechanisms and treatment of breast cancer still remains shrouded in mystery.
A simple layperson's definition of breast cancer is that it is an abnormal growth of a mass of cells known as a tumor anywhere within the breast. This growth is felt as a lumpy mass in the early stages of the cancer. This is when the woman must rush to the doctor. In fact any sudden inexplicable abnormality in the shape of the breast must be given medical attention immediately. There is no cause for alarm, as most changes could be perfectly harmless. But it is wise to rule out the possibility of blood cancer.
Another aspect of urgent medical attention is that breast cancer is fully treatable if it is seen to early. In all women suffering from breast cancer, the tumor will undergo an initial benign stage. At this stage the tumor has not started its abnormal multiplication. If it is removed when it is benign, the cancer does not spread, and in most cases, the woman gets totally cured of the disease and leads a normal life.
Nothing can be said about how long the tumor will remain benign. That depends on several inherent factors with the woman's physiology. The period of benign tumor is another part of breast cancer about which very little is known. But the presence of a tumor or such other symptoms is a strong indicator of occurrence of breast cancer. Apart from the tumor, there could be changes in the coloration of the skin over the breast. Other skin changes such as crimpling and folding could occur. The symptoms of breast cancer are also observed over the nipple and the areolas. The nipples could become inverted without reason, or there could be deformities in their shapes. The same could occur at the areolas, which are the dark circles around the nipples. In the later stages of the breast cancer, there could be a discharge of fluids from the nipples. This discharge could be pus-like, or it could even be a discharge of blood.
Even though the exact causes of breast cancer are not known, there are some women who are termed by the medical facilities as high-risk groups for the disease. Topping this list are the women who smoke and consume alcohol on a regular basis. Women who are obese due to lack of exercise or a physiological problem come next. Breast augmentation surgeries such as breast implants were once considered to be a primary reason for breast cancers. This was in the days silicone gel was used as the implanting material. However, today with the replacement of silicone gel with saline gel, the incidences of women getting cancer due to implants has become drastically less. It is also found that breast cancer cases run in families. Hence if a close relative has breast cancer, there is a great chance that the other women in the family could get it too. This indicates a hereditary factor influencing breast cancer.
Though the causes of breast cancer are unknown, there is a proliferation of the amount of literature about its prevention. Most of these methods are just hogwash, but there are many precautionary points that women must consider. Women must give high priority to losing their body weight, especially if there has been a case of breast cancer in the family. It is also a good idea to have a regular checkup. The checkup could also be done at home with finger pressure. With two fingers, the entire breast must be gradually touched, poking at points to check if there is any undue hardness felt.
Some women take drugs that contain estrogen in them. These could be for almost about anything - from increasing the sexual drive to increasing the amount of milk during lactation. But it must be remembered that any kind of hormonal disarray in the body could only make matters worse. It is not yet proven, but it can be assumed that an increase in the amount of estrogen in the blood could hasten the chances of blood cancer.
There are some foods that have been identified by dieticians to be good for preventing breast cancer. These include cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and legumes. Even oranges, tomatoes and other citrus fruits could have some effects. Soy and its products are also good. A low carbohydrate diet is suggested. At the same time, it is needless to say that the woman must abstain from smoking and alcoholism.
Indulging in regular exercise and maintaining an overall positive outlook towards life could be important to remain away from breast cancer. Some alternative therapists believe that mental tensions could be one of the causes of breast cancer.

Everybody is ignorant as to why there is so much cancer now days and seeking information from their doctor isn't a great help as they don't know the reasons why. Also we all believe there are only three ways to treat the disease and our modern health care system are the only people who can help in overcoming the problem.
You have to  remember that cancer and the treatments that are in place now days are  controlled by a powerful industry and this industry has total control  over the marketplace. Doctors are only taught and allowed to use  surgery, radiation and chemotherapy which are all designed to remove  cancer. These three treatments have many faults, the main ones being;

They are toxic to the human body.

They all weaken the immune system.

They are only treating symptoms.

They are all money orientated.

When cancer appears anywhere in the body it is a sign from the body that you are doing something wrong and just removing growths is pointless as it will only grow back again unless you make some important lifestyle changes. The information you need is to find the reasons that have caused it in the first place and remove those causes and allow the body to heal itself.
The treatments that are in place now days all weaken the body which includes the immune system, our complex built in repair system which keeps us health and disease free. It's only when this system had been weakened by our modern way of living which has allowed normal body cells to mutate and divide without control and become cancerous.
Our three ways of treating cancer target the growths and give little regard to the reasons why it first grew and treating symptoms is only likely to give a patient temporary relief. Unfortunately profit plays a big part in anything to do with cancer today and it's not just treatments but diagnosing it and regular check ups to detect it early.
Early detection is another myth that's perpetrated by the cancer industry. Cancer statistics are measured by a five year survival period so the earlier they can detect it, the sooner the five years period starts running and this helps their statistics. Also if you were diagnosed with cancer back in the 70s there was a 50 percent chance of you surviving and today that hasn't changed, it is still only 50 percent. The reason why it hasn't changed is they are still only treating symptoms and that is of little help,
There can be no real cures for cancer until you address the causes of the problem and remove those causes. All cancers are curably but it's important to treat the reasons why it first grew and remove those reasons. That is, you must treat the person themselves with the problem instead of removing growths. When you make these changes you are strengthening the immune system and of course there are only natural ways to accomplish that.
Natural ways to help the body remove cancer are mainly diet related because "we are what we eat", that is our health is related to what foods we eat on a daily bases. Exercise is also important and it's the only way to help the immune system work efficiently again. We don't get the exercise we use to, especially in Western Societies where we have the motorcar for transport and the television for entertainment.
The most effective way to be free of cancer is to stop doing the things that causes it and start making lifestyle changes that heal it. It's all about information and learning. Take charge of your own health by making these important changes.

Prostate cancer is the most diagnosed cancer and is the common cause of cancer deaths among men. The sad fact about this is that most men do not realize that they acquire this killer disease until it has already spread. This type of cancer spreads rapidly but it can be prevented earlier once you know the prostate cancer symptoms you have to watch out for.
Having prostate cancer can affect your overall wellness. It can stop you from doing activities you normally do. It can affect your relationship with other people and even your sex life. Most prostate cancer patients failed to recognize cancer symptoms earlier that they often found out too late. Luckily, you can avoid being one of them by keeping yourself well informed about this dreaded ailment.
Just like other diseases, prostate cancer has several symptoms. Though older men from 50 years old and above are prone to it, still it helps to know the signs of this killer disease earlier in life. Below are five cancer symptoms you need to be aware of for early detection of the killer disease.
1. Difficulties during urination
Top on the list among the Cancer symptoms is urinary difficulties. Since the bladder and the prostate are close to each other, the tumors that grow on the prostate press the bladder causing difficulty in urinating.
2. Presence of blood in the urine
The presence of blood during urination is one of the cancer symptoms you must know. When the patient is already experiencing this, it is now advisable for him to go to his doctor. Though, this doesn't necessarily mean that one has already cancer since some of the urinary tract infections also experience the same symptom, an early check up is still advisable.
3. Difficulties during erection
Cancer symptoms include difficulties during erection. This kind of cancer affects the sexual life of the patient. He gets the inability to get and maintain an erection. Sometimes he experiences painful ejaculation. The prostate is a part of the male reproductive system so it is only normal that symptoms may affect other sex organs. If you have been experiencing the same scenario, you might as well see your doctor to be diagnosed instead of waiting for other Cancer symptoms.
4. Legs start to swell
Perhaps, you may wonder why swelling of the legs is considered as one of the many Cancer symptoms. Well, as the disease continues to grow, it will also spread to the lymph nodes. When this happens, legs begin to swell. Sometimes, the swelling also cause hips and buttocks to experience severe pain.
5. Pelvic discomfort
Cancer symptoms like having severe discomfort on the pelvis, roots from having affected lymph nodes. The nodes squeeze the pelvis causing pain. To prevent prostate cancer, the five early prostate cancer symptoms should be taken into consideration. Consult your doctor immediately once you experience these symptoms for treatments. It is the best way to fight prostate cancer before it gets worse.

Nothing is more frightening than receiving a diagnosis of lung cancer. After the initial diagnosis, there are many different treatment options, however people who have this condition like to know about lung cancer statistics and their chance of survival. The truth is that with the development of recent technology, these statistics are becoming more and more hopeful.
Approximately 106,000 men along with 90,000 woman are diagnosed with this condition each year. Out of those people who are diagnosed with lung cancer, approximately 89,000 men die and 69,000 women. Although these are still some staggering numbers that will frighten people who have been diagnosed with lung cancer, there is still hope much more hope.
The chances of your surviving this specific type of cancer will depend on a number of things, including which course of treatment you choose. Different doctors will suggest different methods of treatment, however there are some which are fairly standard, such as chemotherapy. In recent years more and more people have started seeking out natural, more healthy ways of getting rid of cancerous cells before they spread to other parts of their body. For men, lung cancer is the second most common type of cancer in the United States. There are a number of contributing factors that can ultimately lead to the full development of this condition, however cigarette smoking is the most common.
Lung cancer is the most common type of cancer for white, Asian, American Indian, and Black men. It is only the third most common type of cancer for Hispanic men. Even though these statistics have been collected in as accurate a way as possible, they are not definite and do apply to everyone. The statistics on survival of this type of cancer differs greatly for a number of reasons. The first factor in whether or not you will survive lung cancer is the physician you choose and the hospital you select for treatment. The second factor is the specific type of treatment(s) you choose.
Other factors involved in cancer survival rates include lifestyle choices such as smoking or chewing tobacco as well as the physical condition of the person's body when they attract the cancer. Whether or not cancer will spread to other parts of the body is still very unpredictable and is in constant research every single day by doctors and scientists alike. As new technology and medical advances are being made, the statistics for cancer continue to become brighter and more hopeful by those affected.
One of the most common types of lung cancer is small cell lung carcinoma, and the tricky thing about this condition is that you may not even know you have it until the cancer has spread to the brain or other vital parts of the body. The best thing you can do to avoid becoming just another statistic from lung cancer is be aware of the symptoms and get regular physicals from your doctor. Survival rates for both men and women are always on the rise each year because of new technology being developed every day. One of the best things you can do is just be aware of all the different treatment options that are available to you in terms of lung cancer.
He felt that having to spend countless hours sorting articles and web pages just to find help during a period when time is of the essence was absurd.

If you have just been diagnosed with lung cancer;support in dealing with this disease and the overwhelming feelings of panic is something that must be dealt with immediately. You must know that there are other people like you out there with the same exact condition. By talking with these people and discussing how you feel, it can make the process of healing much easier. From a healing standpoint, you will begin to feel better when your overall attitude improves. Thinking positively and keeping a good outlook on things can actually help to improve your physical condition, even if only by a little. There are many different sources where you can get the help and support you and your family need to conquer this disease.
The internet would be the most likely place that patients and family members go to find information. There are literally thousands if not millions of people out there who are on online forums and other websites. Every venue or cancer and cancer treatment you can imagine. Thousands of "for profit" legal firms and medical centers appearing to be a support agency to encourage you to visit their websites. Be careful. These aren't support groups and agencies. A support group has a common interest in your problem and can provide you with additional help and assistance.
Since lung cancer has become such a common condition, and asbestos caused lung cancer actually on the rise, you will find that there are millions of people ready to share their own stories and help you with the process of healing, whatever that entails. A lot of people who have just been diagnosed with this kind of cancer have lots of questions about survival rates and treatment options that are non-traditional or more natural. Since your doctor may not have a lot of information on these topics, one of the best things you can do is to find and information guide, manual, or agency to help you do the research yourself. Find the right cancer attorney, doctors and medical centers with experience in asbestos cancer treatments. Try not to be paralyzed by the tons of information on the internet.
You may also be able to find groups that meet in your area, specifically for people who have lung cancer. If you cannot find a lung cancer group, then perhaps you will be able to join a general cancer group that meets monthly or bi-monthly. This too is a great way to share your feelings and get the support you need through this very tough time in your life. You will hear stories from all sorts of people who have this condition, whom are trying to get through it just like you are right now; what they are doing, help they have found, etc.
Getting support also comes in the form of letting your family and friends know what is going on in your life from week to week. Make sure that you keep them close, so they will be there to take care of you and provide any kind of help or support that you may need. Doctors often underplay the significance of emotional support from the people that are closest to the person who has cancer. The more support you get, the better your chances will be of fighting the cancer and getting on with your life. Joining one of these internet forums, finding some form of condensed resource guide to direct you, or attending a lung cancer meeting can really open your eyes and give you the opportunity to meet new people and make lifelong connections.

Cancers that can spread from their original locations are called secondary cancers. This process, called metastasizing, moves the cancers through the bloodstream, lymphatic system, or by direct extension to a new location. One or many of the cancerous cells of the primary cancer (where the disease originated) can break off and slip into the bloodstream or lymphatic system to reach other organs.
Cancerous cells in the lungs as well can appear there without having originated there; in children, cancers of the lungs usually manifest through this process. Cancer that appears in the lungs but did not originate there is called secondary lung cancer. Even though it affects the lungs, this cancer is named according to the type of cancer it originated from, the primary cancer. For example, breast cancer that spreads to the lungs and becomes a secondary lung cancer would still be considered breast cancer.
While nearly every type of cancer has the ability to metastasize and spread to the lungs, some do so more commonly than others. Secondary lung cancer is usually a result of bladder, breast, prostate, or colon cancer. Sarcoma, Wilms tumor and neuroblastoma also tend to migrate to the lungs.
In addition to being a disease in itself, is also usually an indication that the primary cancer has reached an advanced stage, though this is not always the case. Signs of lung cancer include persistent cough, breathlessness, coughing up blood, and chest pain. These symptoms, in addition to being similar to those for primary lung cancer, also mimic several less serious diseases. A diagnosis of secondary lung cancer may therefore require x-rays, CT scans, MRIs, PET scans, or biopsies.
Symptoms of cancers can interrupt daily activities for sufferers. But there are ways to manage and treat the symptoms. Medication can help address symptoms such as breathlessness, cough and chest pain. Other symptoms must be managed by the patient through awareness. Some patients begin to fear they will choke, due to their increased difficulty with breathing, but should be aware that this is unlikely. Others may be distressed by coughing up blood, but should know that coughing up a little blood is not unusual to patients with cancer in the lungs. Only those coughing up large amounts of blood need to seek treatment for this symptom.
Cancer of the lungs can also cause a build up of fluid in the lungs, a condition termed pleural effusion. This fluid may be drained out of the lungs to relieve pain and difficulty breathing, though it may build up again over time. Treatment for lung cancer is similar to that for primary lung cancer, and includes surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. However, chemotherapy is the preferred treatment option. This is because as a secondary cancer, it is an indication that the primary cancer has spread into the bloodstream. In such cases, removing visible tumors through surgery is not effective, as other cancerous cells can be present in the body without being visible. Chemotherapy can target even those cells CT scans cannot see, making it the most common treatment choice.
However, a cure is unlikely and the five-year survival rate for those diagnosed with secondary lung cancer is not promising. The cancer can sometimes be cured via surgery, but this outcome is rare.

Lung cancer affects millions of people every year. Despite its this, many remain unaware of some of the basic facts about this deadly disease.
In the United States, more than 200,000 people are diagnosed with lung cancer every year, with most of those diagnosed, about 116,000, being men. In that same study, a staggering fact is that it will kill more than 160,000 people, which is higher than the number of deaths for breast, colon, and prostate cancer combined. Lung cancer deaths account for almost 30 percent of all cancer-related deaths each year, making it the most common cause of cancer-related death in both males and females.
But mortality rates, at least in men, have taken a downward turn. Peeking around 1993, mortality rates for men have fallen more recently, even while staying relatively stable for women. Black men still retain the highest mortality rate of any group however, followed by white men.
Smoking is the key risk associated with lung diseases. Smokers, and even those who inhale smoke second-hand, are at much higher risk for developing cancer than non-smokers. But other factors also come into play. Asbestos, a fibrous material small enough to become airborne and be inhaled into the lungs, is linked to a specific type of cancer called mesothelioma. Radon and general air pollution also contribute to a higher risk of cancer.
Crucial to preventing lung cancer is avoiding these potentially harmful chemicals and materials. Smokers who quit smoking, even after continuing the habit for years, can help reduce their risk. Of course, avoiding smoking altogether is the most effective way of preventing cancer. Having ever smoked does increase risk, as lungs that have been damaged by smoking never go back to normal, and those who have smoked or still do smoke make up the majority of cancer cases.
Other harmful substances, like radon and asbestos, should be avoided as well. If inhaled, these can damage the lungs and cause lung cancer. Asbestos in particular has become a health concern since the 1970s. Many of those who used to work with the material, particularly in construction-related jobs, inhaled it without realizing the danger and are now seeing that exposure manifest as lung cancer and mesothelioma.
There are active ways to reduce risk as well. Evidence has shown that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables may deter lung cancer. And, as cancer tends to develop in scarred areas of the lungs, managing other lung diseases like tuberculosis can also aid in preventing cancer.
Symptoms target the lungs and airways, and may include coughing, chest pain, shortness of breath or wheezing, and bronchitis. Other markers of cancer are weight loss, fatigue, loss of appetite, and pneumonia.
The only cure for lung cancer is surgery and that only in the earliest stages of the disease. But research and funding is being directed toward searching for ways to combat the disease. However, the amount of funding directed toward lung cancer remains low compared to the number of deaths experienced each year. Roughly $1,500 goes toward cancer research per patient death, compared to almost $5,000 for colorectal cancer, nearly $14,000 for breast cancer and about $11,000 for prostate cancer. This has made it more difficult for researchers to study lung cancer. But organizations like the Lung Cancer Alliance and the National Lung Cancer Partnership are encouraging research and study of the disease in the hope of speeding the road to a cure.

     Women Cure Your Breast Cancer
According to the American Cancer Society and the American Medical Association breast cancer is the most common disease found in women and is the second most major cause of death for them. Normally, the disease is not invasive until they reach their twenties. Every single year millions of women are diagnosed with breast cancer. As women get older, cancer screening visits increase and is the most common reason for office visits to their doctors. The biggest procedure women follow up when they visit their doctors is a mammogram. A mammogram is used to check the breast to determine if any cancer is present.
The first question women usually have is what breast cancer is. Breast cancer is described as abnormal cells that have mutated and they are no longer normal.
The next question asked is why so many women get breast cancer. There are many causes of this dreaded disease. In some women, it appears to form if their menstrual cycle begins too soon. The average age for women to start their menstrual cycle is around twelve year of age. However, for those that begin earlier, evidence has indicated that for many, this group runs the risk of getting breast cancer sometime in their life even before they reach thirty.
If a woman has menopause after fifty, this can be the cause of a woman's system to make hormones in her body change too late.
Too much saturated fat in the diet can cause breast cancer. A diet including monounsaturated fats like canola oil and olive oil does not appear to induce or increase the chance of breast cancer.
Many types of breast cancers are genetic in nature. If the family has a history of breast cancer, it is likely to be passed on to later generations. Women that have a history of a female family member who had breast cancer also have and increased probability of acquiring it.
Women who take estrogen replacement therapy can also be cursed with this disease. This is mostly true if the therapy has been extended up to ten years. It is obvious that breast cancer is a grievous disease that should never be ignored. Women should schedule regular check-ups with their doctor especially when they have reached their twenties.
What Breast Cancer Is:
t is to your advantage to know just what breast cancer is so you will know how to fight it. Knowing what breast cancer is will make coping with it, and perhaps curing it, much easier. Breast cancer is a group of cells in the breast that have become abnormal for various reasons. Researchers suspect that some forms of bacteria get into normal cells and cause mutations. When this happens, the mutated cells then attack other normal cells and cause them to become mutated. Some cells wind up getting destroyed in the process.
When many cells are altered in this way, cancer develops. Often a small amount of these mutated cells wind up being cancerous. This is why cancer often starts in a small section of the breast then outwardly spreads.
If the cancer is not controlled or stopped, it can spread even beyond the breast and end up in other parts of the body. At that time it becomes imperative to quickly find a cure.
Scientists know what breast cancer is. Researchers know that since cancer is a group of abnormal cells, they apply their research toward finding chemicals that can destroy the mutated cells, or alter them so they can repair themselves and become normal again.
By finding what causes mutated cells to manifest may provide clues to the reason for their development in the body and find ways to actually reverse the process. This can help to avoid it in the future, especially for those who have already had it. Those who have never had it can take the necessary steps to keep it from ever happening.
The Four Stages Of Breast Cancer:
In order to cope with breast cancer, you need to examine the different stages so you can be better deal with it from the beginning.
Breast cancer often occurs in stages. Many types of cancers spread at a slow rate while others spread more rapidly. There are cancers that grow predictable and there are types that spread randomly. The types of cancers that spread randomly are created by estrogen in the body. The stage that it is in will depend mainly on the size of the tumor and if the cancer has spread or not.
Stage 0:
Stage 0 is described as noninvasive carcinoma or carcinoma in situ. During this stage of development the cells are abnormal in the lining of the lobule (a small section of a lobe) and have not become cancerous yet.
Stage 1:
In stage 1, the tumor has become cancerous and has grown to an inch in diameter, but has not spread beyond the breast.
Stage 2:
With stage 2 one of three things has happened:(1) The cancerous tumor has grown to less than one inch in diameter and has spread to the lymph nodes under the arm
(2) The cancerous tumor has grown to be about one and two inches, but has not yet reached the lymph nodes, but is headed in that direction
(3) The cancerous tumor is larger than 2 inches in diameter and has not moved.
Stage 3:
The cancerous tumor has grown to more than two inches across, and has reached and penetrated the lymph nodes under the arm. In some cases this type of cancer has been known to spread to the lymph nodes adjacent to the breastbone, or other tissue near the breast.
Stage 4:
This is referred to as metastatic cancer. The cancer has spread beyond the breast, lymph nodes, and to other parts of the body.
Despite all misconceptions, breast cancer is dangerous but it can be cured if discovered in time.
Powerful Antioxidants:
In case you didn't know, foreign bodies, (molecules known as free radicals), attack your body every single day. They are known as free radicals because they are roaming freely about. However, the first atom they find they will become attached to it. Once they become attached to the atom, the cell destroys what is there, or replaces the cell. When the replacement has been completed, the once healthy cell now becomes a bad cell. Then the bad cell converts healthy cell into bad ones. Given time, these groups of cells become mutated and cancerous. To reverse this process, you need a sufficient supply of antioxidants such as fruits, vegetables, and other important foods. The three most powerful antioxidants are beta-carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E.
Beta-carotene is what gives many fruits their appearance. It also stimulates the release of natural killer cells, which hunt down and destroy cancer cells before they can do any damage. It only takes about 15 to 30 milligrams a day to stop these free radicals and destroy them. You can find beta-carotene in cantaloupes, sweet potatoes, spinach, and bok choy (a Chinese cabbage with long white stalks and narrow green leaves. Latin name Brassica chinensis).
Vitamin C is the next most powerful antioxidant. According to scientific studies at the University of California, those who took at least 66 milligrams of vitamin C every day, found their bodies to be free from any foreign antibodies.
Vitamin E is the most versatile antioxidant. Vitamin E not only blocks free radicals, and also stops cancer by stimulating the immune system. When the immune system is engaged, it goes about its job of destroying bad cells in the body. The best way to acquire vitamin E is by eating wheat germ. Other foods that contain vitamin E are whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds.
Breast Cancer Treatment Options:
There are many breast cancer treatment options available. According to many doctors and nutritionists, the best method is aimed at the food you eat. Research studies show foods that have healing properties are the best to consume, in order to get rid of breast cancer.
What would these foods be? Nutritionist say that by eating lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes, you greatly reduce developing breast cancer. If you already have breast cancer, eating these kinds of foods gives you an excellent chance of having the cancer going away.
How do these foods cause such healing? The same nutritionists speak about certain compounds in foods that actually help fight and prevent cancer at the cellular level.
Phytonutrients, (substances that are found in plant food) have the ability to stop cancer. One good example of this type of plant food is broccoli. Broccoli contains phytonutrients called isothiocyanates. In lab tests, this chemical actually destroys cancer tissue.
You will find phytonutrients in many other types of foods such as soybeans, tofu, tempeh, and soy milk. As for soy milk, this is really good for you if you are lactose intolerant, because it contains a soy product called genistein that stops the growth of tumors in tissue.
For centuries it has been known that a perfect healer for many illnesses is garlic. It has a lot of phytonutrients and allyl sulfides. Allyl sulfides have been known to destroy cancer-causing substances in the body.
The main point here is to eat the proper foods so you can develop a strong immune system and have a healthy body at the same time.

By far, cancer is the most feared of all disease. Taunting humanity with the threat of a slow, painful death it is often the first disease people think they have when they experience pain or feel a lump in their bodies and the last they want to talk about. Going to the doctor, patients wait with baited breath for the phone call that tells them, yes or no. That one phone call either brings tremendous relief, exhilaration and an appreciation for life or it brings shock and despair. While cancer is a devastating disease, the likelihood of dying of cancer is much less than dying from cardiovascular disease (heart attacks and strokes). Cardiovascular disease remains the number one killer and is responsible for three times as many deaths as all cancers combined. Still, approximately one in five people will develop some form of malignant cancer at some time in their life.
What is Cancer?
Cancer is a proliferation of cells in the body which undergo unregulated growth. These cells often spread by seeding themselves though out the body. Typically growing in the form of tumors, new tumors emerge as cells take root and grow in different parts of the body. Death occurs when the body's life support functions are compromised due to the cellular damage.
When cancer is talked about, what is meant is a malignant tumor. A malignant tumor is one with the tendency to grow and invade surrounding tissues. Benign tumors, while still cancerous pose a much lesser threat. They are encapsulated and are much less likely to spread. Often, they can be removed surgically and no additional treatment is required. Metastatic tumors are malignancies which have already spread. Metastatic cancers are generally the most dangerous.
Determining the Prognosis
The prognosis for a cancer patient decreases significantly with metastasis. This is the main reason the medical profession encourages routine tests for early detection. A patient's prognosis also decreases with the extent of metastasis. The more sites, the less likely recovery is. Another factor in the prognosis is the exact location of the tumor. A tumor located in a vital organ or near a vital function of the body is more difficult to treat. Finally, the type of cell involved in the cancer can indicate how aggressive the cancer will tend to be.
The Many Causes of Cancer
While most people will never have cancer, every body produces cancerous cells. Every day, even in healthy people, malignant cells are formed and circulate. In a normal, healthy body, these cells are destroyed by the body's immune system. In patients who develop cancer, something has compromised the body's ability to effectively deal with these cells.
Developing cancer is dependent upon many factors. Most certainly, one of these is genetic. The body has certain genes called "Oncogenes." Oncogenes are mutated genes which regulate cell growth. Proteins in these genes signal the cell to divide when it is not suppose to. Exposure to environmental carcinogens and viruses are responsible for converting regular genes to "Oncogenes."
Our bodies are designed to deal with this threat. Additional genes called "Tumor repressor genes" normally suppress or regulate growth. Mutations however can cause these genes to fail and again, unrestricted growth occurs. Chromosomal abnormalities have been linked to a large number of cancers including leukemia and lymphoma.
Viruses appear to play an important role in the onset of cancer. A virus is a strand of genetic material that is able to insert itself into the DNA of its host, replicate and thereby alter the functions of the host. While often the body's defenses can rid itself of the aggressive intruder, other times the intruder imbeds itself deep inside the DNA and the body appears defenseless against it. Altering the bodies DNA, these mutations can be passed down from generation to generation. Viruses are the closest physical evidence that there is to support something akin to the idea of possession. Common viruses known to cause cancer include HPV (Human Pappilloma Virus), CMV (Cytomegalo Virus), EBV (Epstein Barr Virus) and Hepatitis B. In addition, any pathogen that causes chronic inflammation increases the risk of cancer.
Environmental contamination is often blamed for causing cancer. Indeed, environmental contaminants have been proven to increase cancer risk. Chemical carcinogens cause cells to mutate through a series of stages. These stages of mutations are often dependent upon contact with ordinary chemicals which by themselves are not a threat but when combined with a carcinogen triggers mutation. These chemicals are called "co- carcinogens. The list of common chemicals known to cause cancer is very long and include many pesticides, diesel exhaust, lead based paint fumes, formaldehyde and a variety of hair dyes.
The cause of cancer is complex. There are many factors that contribute. In additional to genetic tendencies, viruses and environmental contaminates, ultraviolet light, radiation from x-rays, nuclear power plants and nuclear weapons testing and the use of immunosuppressive drugs all are important factors. In addition, people with a history of autoimmune diseases, whose immune systems are clearly not functioning properly, are also at higher risk.
The Red Flag Signs and Symptoms
Early signs and symptoms of cancer are not often present. Cancer often develops in the body for quite some time before the body's functions are compromised and symptoms are noticeable. This is one more reason why early detection through non invasive testing is so important. Patients who experience unexplained weight loss, night sweats, unexplained pain (especially at night) and abnormal bleeding from any orifice should seek a complete examination as soon as possible.
The Major Cancers
Lung cancer is the most common form of cancer and is the leading cause of all cancer deaths. Bronchogenic carcinoma responsible for 90% of all lung cancers is very aggressive, Eighty seven percent of these cancers are attributed to cigarette smoking.
Colorectal Cancer is the second most common cancer. It tends to affect adults over the age of 40. Scientists accept that a diet low in fiber and high in animal protein contributes to this condition. A vegetarian diet that includes whole grains should significantly reduce the risk. A simple blood test is available for screening called CEA (Carcinoembryonic Antigen).
Breast Cancer affects 13% of woman by age 95. This is the most common form of cancer in woman. While many middle aged woman develop breast cancer, risk increases dramatically after age 75. Eighty percent are first discovered by the patient as a lump. By the time they are discovered, many have metastasized into surrounding lymph. Early detection through daily breast examinations and mammograms offers the possibility of finding the cancer prior to metastasis and greatly improves prognosis. Studies show that annual mammograms reduce the mortality rate of breast cancer by 25 - 30%. While there are risks of radiation exposure from mammograms, most medical professionals believe that the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Breast cancer is responsible for 3.5% of all deaths in woman. A woman who is free of cancer in her lymph nodes following therapy has a 10 year survival rate of 80%
Woman with a family history of breast cancer and those who have taken birth control pills are at higher risk. Other factors that increase risk include becoming pregnant after age 30 and early start of menses, late occurrence of menopause, radiation exposure and hormone replacement therapy.
Prostate Cancer is the most common malignancy in men over age 50. Some studies have shown that a majority of men will develop prostate cancer if they live long enough. While generally a slow growing, mildly aggressive cancer it does have the ability to metastasize and kill. Blood tests (Prostatic Specific Antigen test) can reveal the presence of prostate cancer. While a positive test indicates cancer a negative test can not rule it out. The value of all blood screening tests for cancer is controversial.
Endometrial Cancer is the 4 th most common malignancy in woman. Risk increases dramatically after age 40 and peaks between ages 50 - 60. The greatest correlated risk factor is obesity. Other important risk factors include: estrogen replacement therapy, the choice to have or the inability to have children (nulliparity), ovulatory disorders and late menopause. The condition has also been correlated with high estrogen levels in the body in comparison to progesterone. Most cases present with abnormal vaginal bleeding as the first sign.
Cervical Uterine Cancer is the result of sexually transmitted pathogens and is less common than endometrial cancer. Risk increases with the number of sexual partners a woman has had and with the early loss of one's virginity. Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) clearly plays a role. HPV is the cause of genital warts. Cigarette smoking also increases the risk.
Ovarian Cancer affects one in 70 women. And one of every one hundred woman dies of it. Its incidence increases around menopause and in post menopausal woman. Surprisingly, the risk of developing ovarian cancer decreases with oral contraceptive use. Known risk factors include obesity, nulliparity, infertility, late childbearing and late menopause. A blood test is available for screening. The test is called CA-125. The accuracy of all blood screening tests is controversial.
Malignant Melanoma is the most aggressive form of skin cancer. While the condition is very aggressive and very often fatal when diagnosed in its late stages, early diagnosis leads to a nearly 100% cure rate. Other skin cancers such as Basal cell and Squamous cell carcinomas are less aggressive with lower rates of metastasis. Medical treatment of these cancers is quite effective.

Though we have all heard the term "Cancer" through many sources, the exact facts and details of the disease is not very widely known. Cancer is one of the world's deadliest diseases and is a completely curable if detected at an early age. It is therefore a must to possess awareness about it and this article is a consolidation of the facts and details related to this disease.
What is Cancer?
Cancer is not a single disease but a class of diseases which are typically characterized by random and out-of-control growth in the human body cells. These random cell growth leads to invasion of other normal cells around them leading to their destruction. The cancerous cells divide in an uncontrollable fashion and form lumps or tissue masses known as tumors. These tumors affect the body part where they grow and disrupt their normal functioning. The cancerous cells also spread to other parts of the body through blood or lymph and cause further cell destruction.
Oncologists are physicians or researchers who study about the diagnosis, treatment and sure of cancer. The study of cancer is by itself known as oncology.
Types of Cancer
Cancer can typically affect every organ of the body and spread the disease by destroying the neighbouring cells. The various cancers are named typically after the place where they originate in the body. For example, Breast cancer is cancer that originates in the cells of the breast. With about more than 100 types of cancer, this class of diseases is divided into five broad categories.
* Cancer that originates in the skin or in the tissues that cover the internal organs is known as Carcinoma.
* Cancer that starts in the bone, fat muscle, cartilage or blood vessels are known as Sarcoma.
* Cancer in the blood forming tissues like the bone marrow is known as Leukaemia. This type of cancer enters the blood stream and spreads to all the parts of the body.
* Cancer that begins in the immune system of the body is known as Lymphoma and Myeloma.
* Cancer in the cells of the brain and spinal cord are known as Central nervous system cancer.
Symptoms of Cancer
The symptoms of cancer are an important factor in the early detection, though some types of cancer do not exhibit any symptoms at all unless they are in the advanced state. Though each type of cancer exhibits different types of symptoms there are few symptoms that are common to most of the cancers. The patient can exhibit a broad spectrum of symptoms which might not be very specific to the type of cancer like fatigue, unintentional weight loss, fever, bowel changes and chronic cough. Pain is most of the times a symptom of cancer in the advanced form. Pain in the lower back can be symptoms of colon or ovarian cancer while shoulder pain can be a symptom of lung cancer. Though stomach pain can be normally caused by many reasons, stomach cancer is also associated with acute stomach pain.
How harmful is the cancer?
The disease cancer claims the lives of millions of people around the world every year. It is dangerous and life-threatening when it develops as tumors and starts spreading around. The cells may move through the body through lymph systems or the blood and can destroy the other healthy cells in the body. Such a process is known invasion and affects other internal organs other than its place of cancerous origin. Such a tumor that grows, invades and spreads destroying other tissues is known as a metastasized tumor and is a very serious condition which is at times beyond treatment levels.
How is Cancer caused?
The disease cancer is majorly an environmental disease where about 90-95% of the scenarios are caused due to factors like lifestyle and environmental conditions. Only about 5-10% of the cases are caused by genetic disorders. The common factors that lead to environmental causes of cancer are tobacco, obesity, infections, radiation and environmental pollutants. These factors affect the basic underlying genetic cell material leading to the disease.
Treatment course of Cancer
The definitive diagnosis of cancer requires clinical examination of the biopsy specimen. Sometimes initial indication of the malignancy can be through symptomatic or by radiographic imaging abnormalities. Once diagnosed, cancer is normally treated by chemotherapy, surgery or radiation or a mixture of two or more methods. Treatment also depends on the types of cancer and the stage in which the disease has progressed. There are many specific treatment methods that are followed based on the type of cancer and medical advancement has bought in many new types of targeted therapies for the specific kind of cancer. The targeted therapy also works on cancerous cells showcasing abnormal behaviour and reduces the damage caused to normal cells.
How can your effectively prevent cancer?
Cancer prevention is easier than cancer treatment. Though there are many factors that can cause cancer, a few simple changes to your lifestyle can help you prevent them. The below are few methods that you can accommodate or follow to ensure prevention or early detection of cancer.
* Avoid direct or indirect form of smoking
* Look out for skin changes and take care to avoid harmful exposure to the sun
* Maintain a healthy diet of natural fruits and vegetables and limit fat contents
* Keep your alcohol intake within limits
* Remember a healthy exercised body keeps out cancer better
* Learn about any genetic disorders in the family and take necessary screenings
* Beware of harmful substances in your work environment
* Follow safe sexual methods
* Obtain regular cancer screening to detect at early stage
Cancer Research is one of the major scientific efforts that is being undertaken to understand the disease better and find possible therapies. There are many national and international cancer institutes that have been established for this purpose. Since 1971, major advancements have been made in the field of molecular biology and cellular biology leading to many new and advanced treatment modes for cancer.

     General Information on Breast Cancer
Breast cancer has been one of the leading health concerns for women. For over 3,600 years the cancer has affected the lives of women in immeasurable ways. According to the Edwin Smith papyrus, awareness of breast cancer has been well established since 1600 BC in Egypt, thus making it the oldest form of cancer known to humans. "There is no treatment", this is what early Egyptian physicians writes about breast cancer according to the papyrus and for centuries this has been the attitude displayed by both health practitioners and patients.
But while the Egyptians have considered the disease incurable, we now have medical advancements that make survival almost an absolute certainty at early stages. All we need is a firm knowledge on warning signs of the cancer and the determination to go through the treatment process.
What are the Causes of Breast Cancer?
About one in eight women will be diagnosed with this cancer in a lifetime. There are several risk factors which are part of our lives that we could not change. This includes aging, familial history, genetics and menstrual cycle.
The risk of getting cancer becomes higher as a person ages. Advanced cancer stages are commonly found in women fifty years old and above. About thirty percent of women who have breast cancer have a family history of breast, ovarian, uterine or ovarian cancer.
Some people have gene defects that make them more susceptible to acquiring the disease. This includes defects commonly found in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. Women with these gene defects have an eighty percent chance of getting breast cancer. Those who have started menstruation before the age of twelve or went through menopause after the age of fifty-five have higher breast cancer risk.
Women who never had children or gave birth only after the age of thirty also have an increased risk for breast cancer.
Other risk factors include alcohol consumption, obesity, hormone replacement therapy to avert menopause, the use of the drug diethylstilbestrol (DES) to prevent miscarriage, and radiation.
Curiously, there is no evidence linking the use of breast implants, antiperspirants, pesticides and underwire bras in raising cancer risks.
What are the Symptoms of Breast Cancer?
Undergoing regular breast examination is important in detecting cancerous growths because in early stages, cancer of the breast may not manifest any symptom at all. As the cancer develops women may experience one or a combination of the following.

A painless hard lump with uneven edges in the breast or armpit area.

Noticeable change in size, shape, feel and texture of the breast and nipple.

Unusual fluids, such as pus, coming out of the nipple.

For women who are in advanced breast cancer stages, symptoms may include bone pain, pain and discomfort in the breast area, skin ulcers in the breast or underarm, weight loss, and swelling of one arm.
How to Prevent Breast Cancer?
Since some risk factors are uncontrollable, awareness is the most important step in fighting the disease. In general, having a healthy diet and lifestyle reduces a person's chance of getting cancer. Early detection of the cancer raises the cure rate and thus, breast self-examination (BSE), clinical breast examination and screening mammography are highly recommended.
Experts advise BSE once a month for women over twenty. The test should be done a week after their menstruation. For those between the ages of twenty to thirty-nine, clinical examination should be done every three years.
Women above the age of forty are generally advised to undergo a complete breast examination and mammography once a year. Breast MRI should also be done for women who are have higher breast cancer risk factors.
Certain drugs, such as Tamoxifen, are approved by the USDA for cancer prevention in women aged thirty-five or older. Preventive prophylactic mastectomy, or the surgical removal of the breast, is advised for those who already had one breast removed and for those who are identified to have genetic mutations that raise tumor risks.
What exams and tests are involved in the detection of breast cancer?
Your doctor will gather information of your symptoms and risk factors. A thorough physical examination, which includes the breast, armpit, chest and neck, would then be performed to check for possible tumor growths.
To confirm the diagnosis additional test may be performed, this includes mammography, breast MRI, CT scan and PET scan, to identify the size, shape and location of the breast lump. Breast ultrasound is also done to check if the lump is solid or is filled with fluids. Needle aspiration and sentinel lymph node biopsy is done for further laboratory examination of a breast lump and adjacent lymph nodes.
How do we classify breast cancer?
After positive diagnosis of breast cancer, further test will be done in order to check the extent of the cancer. This is called breast cancer staging. This helps doctors identify the treatment methods necessary and to give the patient a prognosis.
Breast cancer stages ranges from zero to four. When a cancer has not yet spread, it is called ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). The cancer may be noninvasive or invasive depending of the advancement of cancer.
A combination of treatments is commonly received by women and this differs on the stage of the cancer. In stage one, the goal to eliminate the cancer and prevent its spread to other tissues and organs of the body. For women with stage four breast cancers, the treatment is aimed at prolonging the life span of the patient as the cancer in stage four cannot be treated.
How is breast cancer treated?
The treatment of cancer depends on the type and stage of the cancer and its sensitivity to certain hormones. The cancer is also monitored for overproduction of the HER2 gene.
The general breast cancer treatments include chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery. Chemotherapy is the use of drugs to kill cancer cells. Surgical removal of cancerous tissues is also done to effectively remove breast lumps. Surgery may be in form of removal of breast lumps (lumpectomy) or removal of the entire breast and nearby structures (mastectomy). Radiation therapy is the use of high energy x-rays to destroy cancerous tissues.
Treatments such as hormonal therapy and targeted therapy may also be done in order to avert possible metastasis and to stop certain hormones from fueling cancer growth. Some samples of hormonal therapy include drugs such as Tamoxifen and Exemestane which are used to block the effects of estrogen and reduce cancer development. Drugs such as Herceptin plus trastuzumab may be used as a form of targeted therapy in women with stage IV HER2 positive breast cancer.
What to expect after treatment?
There are a number of medical advancements that makes it possible for patients to live longer, more active lives after cancer treatment. Still, we cannot help but stress the importance of early detection. In the American Cancer Society's study, the five year survival rate for stage zero and one cancer is at a high of a hundred percent and this goes down to at least twenty percent for stage four. Visit your physician and find out more about cancer and learn how breast self examination is done.

Breast Cancer refers to the type of cancer that is characterized by the uncontrolled progression of abnormal cells located in the tissues of the breast. It is the second prevalent form of cancer affecting women with an incidence rate of one in every eight women.
Breast cancer comes in several form, the more common types are ductal carcinoma, which makes up approximately eighty five to ninety percent of breast cancers, and lobular carcinoma, found in about eight percent of breast cancer patients. Ductal carcinoma starts from the ducts that carry milk from the lobules to the nipple. When the cancer starts at the milk producing lobules, it is called lobular carcinoma.
There has yet to be a scientific explanation on how breast cells become abnormal and ultimately malignant. However, breast cancer is attributed to a combination of risk factors that a woman may inherit or acquire.
Some breast cancer risk factors are genetic in nature. It is widely accepted that women who have one or more relatives afflicted with breast cancer have a higher risk of having breast cancer incidence themselves. Studies show that some families have defects in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene and this account to about ten percent of breast cancer cases.
Hormonal risk factors are also involved in the formation of breast cancer. The female hormones, estrogen and progesterone, assists in the development and division of breast cancer cells. Women may increase their risk for breast cancer if they had hormonal replacement therapy during their menopausal stages.
Age and gender plays a key role in the development of cancerous cells in the breast. Women are thought to have a hundred percent likelihood of growing breast cancer than men especially those who area above the age of fifty.
A person's overall health condition also factors in as a risk. Women who are less active and with less exercise have higher cancer development rate than those who have physically active. It is also well established that alcohol consumption and weight gain contributes to the incidence certain illnesses, including breast cancer.
Signs and Symptoms of Breast Cancer
Here are some signs that a woman may have breast cancer.
1. A painless lump growing in the breast area or armpit.
2. Unusual change in size and shape of the breast.
3. The nipple may produce a pus-like or clear discharge.
4. The color and texture of the skin, particularly the areola.
Women should immediately report occurrence of one or a combination of these symptoms to their physician so that early detection can be accomplished. The stage in which breast cancer is diagnosed largely identifies the treatment method needed and the survival rate that a patient may expect. For those who have detected the cancer growth at very early stages, the five year survival rate goes to as high as a hundred percent.
The following procedures are done in order to establish the breast cancer occurrence and identify the stage on which the cancer was diagnosed.
1. Physical Examination - your physician will examine your breast through visual inspection and palpation. In visual inspection, changes in the contour and texture of the breast will be noted. Appearance of sores, dimpling, nipple discharge, ulcers, nipple inversion and puckering may signify breast cancer occurrence. Your doctor will also use the pads of the finger to palpate the breast area for unusual bumps. Take note that benign tumors have a different feel from cancerous ones.
2. Mammography - is an important procedure that shows the development of cancerous tumors before they are physically or visually noticeable. This is done by using a high energy x-ray of the breast to check for abnormal breast tissue density and calcium deposits. Advancements in mammography have drastically reduced the fatality rate of breast cancer as the malignancy is often found using mammography at stages where it is highly curable.
3. Ultrasonography - The use of high frequency sound wave helps in identifying the state of breast lump. If a lump is solid, there is a great likelihood that it is cancer as opposed fluid-filled tumors which are usually non-cancerous.
4. Breast cancer biopsy - when an abnormal growth on a woman's breast is detected, a biopsy is done to extract samples of its tissue. These samples examined in a laboratory to look for the presence of cancerous cells. Biopsies are done in three different ways. Fine needle aspiration uses a fine needle to withdraw cell samples from the suspected are. Surgical biopsy remove part or the entire suspected area, while large core biopsy uses a large core biopsy uses large needle to remove the core of the suspicious area.
After the detection of cancer, your physician will determine the phase of development of the cancer in order to establish the necessary treatment method. This is called staging and cancers are classified into five stages.
1. Stage Zero - also called carcinoma in situ is the earliest stage of the cancer. The cancer is still contained in the area where it originated and is not yet invasive. The neighboring lymph nodes and other organs are still free from cancer cells.
2. Stage One - this is a stage wherein the cancer solidifies but is still smaller than two centimeters and the cancer cells have not yet reached other tissues and organs.
3. Stage Two - in this stage, the cancer has not yet affected the lymph nodes in the underarm its size is about two to three centimeters.
4. Stage Three - is a stage where the cancer is larger than five centimeters and has already reached the lymph nodes in the underarm or other areas around the breast.
5. Stage Four - is when the cancer becomes metastatic or has spread to other organs of the body including the chest cavity, bones, lungs and liver. The cancer is often untreatable at this stage and the main goal of the treatment is to prolong the patient's life expectancy.
Treatment for breast cancer is generally grouped into two methods.
1. Local treatment - these are treatments that remove or kill abnormal cells in a particular area. Surgery and Radiation therapy are two examples of this kind of treatment
2. Systematic treatment - are used for the control and elimination of cancer cells in the body. Examples of this treatment are chemotherapy and hormonal therapy.
Depending on the severity and location of the cancer growth and overall health condition of the patient, one or a combination of these treatments may be applied.
The most common treatment for cancer, surgical procedures may be done in two ways, sparing surgery and mastectomy. Breast sparing surgery or lumpectomy, removes the cancerous lumps but not the entire breast. In addition, a full lymph node dissection or a sentinel node dissection may be done to check whether the cancer has spread to adjacent areas.
Mastectomy involves the removal of the entire breast and is usually done when the tumor has becomes too large or has spread to the skin of the breast. A full lymph or sentinel lymph node dissection may also be performed alongside mastectomy.
In radiation therapy - a machine emitting high energy x-rays is used to radiate and damage the tumor and to stop the cells from growing. Radiation is often used after sparring surgery in order to eliminate abnormal cells and fight off metastasis and recurrence.
Surgery and radiation may not completely eliminate cancer cells. To kill cancer cells that have spread to other parts of the body, chemotherapy or hormonal therapy may be used. Chemotherapy involves the use of cancer cell killing drugs which may be administered intravenously or orally. Drugs such as adriamycin, cytoxan, paclitaxel or docetaxel are some samples of drugs used in chemotherapy.
Hormonal therapy is done in women with hormone positive receptor cancers. These forms of breast cancers rely on the female hormones, estrogen and progesterone, for its nutrient and development. Drugs such as Tamixofen, Arimidex, Aromasin and Femara are samples of drugs used in hormone therapy.

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed non-skin cancer, has overtaken lung cancer as the leading cancer affecting all men and followed by colorectal cancer.
Statistically, 80 percent of prostate cancers occur in men over the age of 65. Although this cancer can also occur in younger individuals, it is very rare under the age of 50. As males age the prostate can develop problems.
Annually, one out of six American men will develop it in the course of his lifetime. Little did we know the fact a man is 33% more likely to develop prostate cancer than a woman is to get breast cancer.
In 2004, it is estimated that 234,000 new cases of prostate cancer diagnose in the United States. That makes it the most common cancer among American men, next to the skin cancer. More than 27,000 deaths due to prostate cancer are expected to occur annually.
One new case every 2 1/2 minutes. One new case every 150 seconds.
While in UK, nearly 35,000 men are diagnosed and about 10,000 men die from prostate cancer annually. This means over one man die every hour in UK.
Today, about two million men are fighting prostate cancer, and over the next decade, as baby boomer men reach the target ripen age for prostate cancer, about three million more will be compelled to join the battle. It is estimated that by 2012, the number of new cases in the U.S. is expected to increase to more than 300,000 new cases per year by 2012.
One new case every 100 seconds. One man dead every 13 minutes.
What is prostate?
Prostate is a male sex gland, the size of a walnut, located behind pubic bone in front of the rectum that encompasses lower part of a bladder. The tube that carries urine (the urethra) runs through the prostate. At birth the gland size is small like a pea and it continue to grow until age of 20 when a man reaches adulthood. Male hormones (called androgens) is responsible for this growth. The gland size will not change until 45, when it starts to grow again.
Its primary function is to produce thick fluids that nourish the sperm, as well as helping propel sperm through the urethra and out of the penis to reach and fertilize an egg. Even though prostate is not a primary component of urinary tract, but it is very important for urinary health.
In older men, the part of the prostate around the urethra may keep on growing. This causes BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) which cause problems passing urine. BPH is a problem that must be treated, but it is not cancer.
What is prostate cancer?
The body is made up of different types of cells. Normally, cells grow, divide and then die. Sometimes, cells mutate and begin to grow and divide more quickly than normally. Instead of dying, these abnormal cells clump together to form tumors. If these tumors are cancerous or so-called malignant tumors, they can invade and kill healthy tissues in the body. From these tumors, cancer cells can metastasize (spread) and form new tumors in other parts of the body. In contrary, non-cancerous tumors or so-called benign tumors do not spread to other parts of the body.
Prostate cancer is abnormal cells grow out of control forming small nodules or bumps (overgrowth tissue) on the surface of in the prostate gland. In some cases, the overgrowth tissue is benign and this prostate condition is called Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH). Other times, abnormal cancerous cells characterize the overgrowth of tissue, and this is referred to as a malignancy or prostate cancer.
As its close proximity to the bladder, prostate disorder might interfere with urination and causing bladder or kidney problems. It is also located immediately next to the nerves responsible for erections hence it might interfere with sexual function as well.
Although more than 70% of all prostate cancer cases are diagnosed in men over the age of 65, doctors recommend that every man above the age of 50 should have a PSA test and a rectal exam. According to statistic African-American have almost twice as much prostate cancer incidence rates as Caucasian American, hence they should start getting tested at age 40. The same is true if you have a
family history of prostate cancer.
One-third of men over the age of 50 have some cancer cells within their prostate and nearly all men over the age of 80 have a small area of prostate cancer. In most men, these cancers grow extremely slowly, particularly in elderly men, and it will never cause any problems. Even without treatment, many of them will not die of the prostate cancer, but who, but rather live and die of some other unrelated cause before the disease takes its toll.
However, similar to most types of cancer, if left completely unchecked prostate cancer can be aggressive, grow more quickly and may spread (metastasized) to other parts of the body, particularly lymph nodes or the bones. This makes treatment much more difficult.
What are the symptoms?
Prostate cancer often does not cause any symptoms for years. When symptoms do occur, usually the cancerous cells have spread beyond the prostate, this is why regular check up for men age of 40 and above is necessary and recommended. The symptoms include:

Urinary problems:

Dull pain in the lower pelvic area, hips, or upper thighs

Not being able to urinate

Sensation that your bladder doesn't empties

Having a hard time starting or stopping the urine flow

Problems with urgency of urination and difficulty in starting

Frequent urination, especially at night

Weak flow of urine

Urine flow that starts and stops

Pain or burning during urination

Difficulty having an erection

Pain at ejaculation

Genital pain

Blood in the urine or semen

Note: Other health issues such as urinary infection or inflammation; bladder problems or kidney stone can cause exactly the same symptoms. Hence, should those symptoms occurred and accompanied with blood in your urine, painfully ejaculation and general pain in your lower back, hips and leg bones, significant lost of weight - you must inevitable visit your urologist for a thorough check up.Who are at risk?
Risk factors consistently associated with prostate cancer include:

Age: After the age of 50, the chance of developing prostate cancer is higher. More than 80 percent of all prostate cancers occur in men 65 years and older.

Race: African American men have a 60% higher risk of prostate cancer than white men, including Hispanic men

Ethnicity: More common in North America and northwestern Europe and occurs less frequently in Asia, Africa, Central America and South America.

Family history: Appears to have a genetic link. Having family history of prostate cancer, a father or brother with the disease doubles a man's risk of developing it. Man whose brother had a prostate cancer have 4.5 times higher risk of prostate cancer and 2.5 time higher if his father had a prostate cancer.

Vasectomy: Men who have undergone vasectomy (a surgical procedure that renders them sterile) may have an increased risk.

Men who have diabetes have less risk of getting the disease, although no one really knows why.

How to prevent?Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is the best way to reduce the risks from all forms of cancer:

Diet: The results of most studies show s diet high in animal fats and low in fresh fruit and vegetables have an increased chance of developing prostate cancer.

Studies show a diet high in lycopenes (found in higher levels in colorful fruits and vegetables), selenium, goji berry, broccoli and turmeric may lower the risk of developing prostate cancer.

Exercise: Maintaining a healthy weight along with regular physical activity may reduce the risk of prostate cancer.

Get plenty of rest- regularly scheduled bed time is important for overall health.

How is prostate cancer detected? There are three common screening methods for prostate cancer:

Digital rectal examination (DRE) A digital rectal examination as part of an annual physical exam in men age of 50 or older (and in younger men who are at increased risk). During this test, a doctor inserts a gloved and lubricated finger into the rectum to feel for abnormalities. While the rectal exam may be a bit unpleasant, it is done quickly.

Blood test for prostate specific antigen (PSA) The PSA is a blood test which measures a protein in prostate gland cells. The American Cancer Society recommends the test to be executed once a year for men 50 and older, and for younger men with higher prostate cancer risk.

Results under 4 are usually considered normal. Results above 10 are considered high. Values between 4 and 10 are considered borderline. The greater the PSA level, the greater the chance that prostate cancer exists.
The test need to be validated further with a biopsy as the PSA test cannot be used as a foolproof test for prostate cancer:

2 out of 3 men with a high PSA values show no cancerous cells in their prostate biopsy.

1 in 5 men with prostate cancer will have a normal PSA result.

Transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) TRUS will be done if the digital rectal exam or PSA levels are abnormal. A probe is inserted into the rectum and pictures are recorded using sound waves, which create an image of the prostate gland. The test is usually done in outpatient setting and usually takes less than 30 minutes. Based on results from these screenings, additional tests may be recommended.

A positive biopsy is needed to confirm the diagnosis. If a biopsy reveals cancer, additional testing is done to see if it has spread to other organs:

Blood tests- may be taken to see if the cancer has spread

Bone scan- to determine if the cancer has spread to the bones

CT scan- a series of x-ray images taken of the pelvis or abdomen, often used to determine general signs of disease

Chest x-ray- to determine if cancer has spread to the lungs

MRI- magnetic resonance imaging to detect cancer in lymph nodes and other internal organs

What is the usual treatment for prostate cancer? There are several treatments to treat prostate cancer: These include surgery, radiotherapy and various forms of drug treatment. Hormone therapy is commonly used. It blocks the action of testosterone, a sex hormone that prostate cancers need in order to grow.
Three treatment options are generally accepted for men with localized
prostate:

Radical prostatectomy: A surgical procedure to remove the entire prostate gland and nearby tissues. In some cases the lymph nodes in the pelvic area are also removed. This procedure is performed using nerve-sparing surgery which might prevent damage to the nerves needed for an erection. However, nerve-sparing surgery is not always possible.

Radiation therapy: Using energy to the prostate using an external beam of radiation. Patients with high-risk prostate cancer are candidates for adding hormonal therapy to standard radiation therapy.

Active Surveillance may be an option recommended for patients with early-stage prostate cancer, particularly those who have low-grade tumors with only a small amount of cancer seen in the biopsy.

Are there any side effects? As with all disease, treatment may result in side effects. The most concern side effects of are impotence, or erectile dysfunction, and incontinence.
Researchers still do not fully understand what causes prostate cancer, or how it develops - and they urgently need to improve on current treatments.
