Steps to include Indian Rupee Symbol Font in MS word applications

The steps to use the new Indian Rupee Symbol as a Font in your word applications:

1. Download the attached font Rupee.ttf
2. Copy the font and paste it in "Fonts" folder in Control Panel.
3. Open any Microsoft Office application (For E.g., Microsoft Office Word).
4. Select the font type as Rupee.
5. Click on ` (Grave accent) symbol. This key is just above "tab" button in your keyboard.
6. You can see the new Rupee symbol in your office application.

Limitations:
The "Rupee.ttf" font is necessary to view the currency symbol. So as long as the new symbol is not encoded in to Unicode font by default, we cant use the symbol universally.

Install fonts in Ubuntu

You can install various fonts in Ubuntu 9.04, 9.10, 10.04 and 10.10 following the next easy tutorials.

If you want to install Microsoft Windows fonts, open your terminal (Applications/Accessories/Terminal) and enter:

sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer

For Red Hat Liberation fonts use this terminal line: (This fonts are already installed on Ubuntu 10.04)

sudo apt-get install ttf-liberation

If you want to install any other fonts you can get from the net or use your font database follow this steps:

1. Go to your home folder
2. Enable “Show Hidden Files” option from View menu
3. Then create new folder with name “.fonts” (with dot in front)
4. Now in new folder copy all your true type fonts. If you want to copy your Windows fonts, you can find it in WINDOWS/Fonts folder.
5. Now restart and new fonts will be in use.

This phone has only appeared on the drawing board till now, so it might take few more years before its available to consumers. It actually reminds me the famous James Bond Movie, where Agent 007 carries all such Gizmo Gadgets.
This is a new concept mobile communication device which looks funny but is a serious thingy newly released in the mobile world. A new launch by Nokia, this slim paper-like phone has a lot of features which people just used to imagine about.

The piece is designed by “Tamer Nakisci”, who has already won “The Nokia Benelux Design Awards” and now is a jury member of Apple iCan 06.

The phone is completely flexible and can be carried any where and in any form. It can be bended in any shape, or can be rolled up round the wrist, or if at all you are not comfortable with this, then you can just use the phone as a clip for your shirt. Never ever was there a concept of this kind… and is already in huge demands prior to the release of this piece.

This phone can change it’s own shape whenever you need to talk like a normal phone. Talk without words, but with emotions which can be sent and recieved by other Nokia 888 users.

Things like liquid battery, speech recognition, flexible touch screen, touch sensitive body cover and extremely new ones into the world of Nokia Mobiles.

The color can be changed along with the shape of the phone. What else you need? Everything is unique and new… so you will really enjoy using it… not just a mobile, but it is Fun!

Excellent, very original idea. I have the impression that the probability of losing this type of phone would be important.

Get Administrator Access In Any Windows Machine That Comes In Your Way

If you are an office employee or a student at some university, school or college, chances are that you are using a locked down computer. That is, you are given an account that is having less privileges. You might be lacking permissions to install most of the applications, copy files to certain folders, change themes or screensavers, do some tweaking of the system, or pretty much do anything other than work or research.

In today’s GCS Computer Tricks, we introduce you to a new program – PCLoginNow. This is a tool meant to reset administrator password for Windows machine in case you forget it. (Yeah right!). The feature that we loved most and compelled us to write this post is that the program can convert your account from an under-privileged account to an administrator account. Sweet.

Before we dive into nitty gritties of getting you administrator powers in any Windows box, let’s see a quick review of this program:

Pros:

* Success rate – 100%. Yes, you are guaranteed to get admin powers in all Windows machines.
* Freeware – Absolutely zero cost. Other similar applications cost hundreds of dollars.
* Correctly detects if you have more than one Windows OS installed.
* Works on Windows Vista, Windows XP/XP with SP2, Windows 2003 server , Windows 2000/NT
* Supports all Windows file systems - NTFS, FAT16, FAT32.
* In addition to resetting the administrator password and elevating your limited account to an administrator account, this program can also lock out and unlock all user accounts in the machine.

1. Download PCLoginNow iso live cd file from SourceForge.net. (About 55Mb)
2. Burn the downloaded iso file to a CD.
3. Insert this disc into the drive and boot your computer from the CDROM.
4. You should get the following screen. Hit next.

5. You will get a list of Windows OS installed in your machine. Select the correct OS you want and hit next.

6. Select the user account you wish to upgrade to an administrator. Select the check-box “is Administrator”. To reset the administrator password, select the administrator account and select the check-box “password is empty”. Hit next.

7. # Click on OK to reboot the machine.

Well, in the linux world, it's a pity if you don't give an alternate way to do stuff. So here it is:
mplayer -dumpaudio my_video_file.avi -dumpfile extracted_audio.mp3

This technique can be used to extract audio from AVI, MPG and FLV files.

How to increase the size of C drive using space from other drives

By default Windows stores all the user's documents, the installed programs and the system files in the C: drive. As a result of this C: drive is the one that gets filled faster than other drives. Once the free space in C: drive (or any other drive) becomes very low, Windows starts to show the above annoying balloon pop up message. How do you solve such a problem? Just read along.

Scenario: The free space in your C: drive is in MB range while any of your other drives (D, E ...) have ample space. Since most of the programs require some space in C: during running/installing, you will find yourself unable to do your daily PC work as you would normally do, in this situation.

Solution:

1. Create an empty folder in any NTFS drive(D, E ...) that has ample space.
2. Run diskmgmt.msc from the Run command.

3. Right click on the C: drive and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths" and click on "Add"

4. In the window that appears, specify the path of the empty folder that we created in step 1.

5. You can see that the folder that we created now appears as an exact copy of the C: drive and the that size of the C: drive have magically increased.

Use Proper Hygiene

Windows XP -
You can use the method described above if you want: In the US version of Windows XP Pro, the string is at 0EE36F (Classic-style button) and 0EE096 (XP-style button). But instead, we are going to use Resource Hacker (542KB).

Changing the name of the Start Menu button

1. Run Resource Hacker, and open \windows\explorer.exe

2. Click String Table > 37 > 1033 (XP-style button)

3. Replace "start" with whatever you want ("hello", in the picture above)

4. Click the Compile Script button.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 for String table > 38 > 1033 (Classic-style button)

5. Save the file (File>Save). Hit Cancel then Yes when Windows File Protection pops up.

Note: If an error message pops up when saving the file, kill explorer.exe (Clt-Alt-Del > Processes > explorer.exe > End Process > File > New Task), repeat step 5 (save the file in Resource Hacker), and restart explorer.exe (Clt-Alt-Del > Processes > explorer.exe > End Process > File > New Task > explorer > OK).

Step 4 >> Now go to Google SMS channels homepage and create a new channel as shown in the screen shot below. If you don’t have an account on SMS channels then create one by logging in with your Gmail password.

Step 5 >> Fill all the required details and feed URL of your Orkut page (refer step 2) on the ‘RSS/Atom feed’ form and finally hit the ‘create channel’ button

That’s it! Now you’ll be getting scrap notifications via SMS for free

Note:

* For this trick to work on locked scrapbooks, you must add this Orkutfeeds bot as your friend.
* Scrap notification are delayed for 2-4 hours depending on the Google’s server traffic.

Windows comes packed with a bunch load of small shortcut key strokes that enact the same commands available in the menus of a program. They are quicker and more direct, and usually involve two or three keys depressed simultaneously.Quite a few of them are listed in the Windows Manual ,but hardly anyone refers to the manual.Here are some important shortcuts which will enhance your Windows experience.

1. WindowsKey + d = >Minimizes all applications and open windows to reveal the desktop.

2.WindowsKey + L => Logs you off and lets you switch users.

3. Ctrl+Esc immediately followed by Alt+ M =>Instantly minimizes all open windows.Its similar to shortcut 1 but then its good to know.

4.Windowskey+E =>Brings up the Windows Explorer.

5.Windowskey+R =>Brings up the Run box.

6.F6 => automatically highlights the URL in the address bar.

7.Alt+Tab =>Switches to previous window.If multiple windows are open, holding ALT while repeatedly hitting TAB, tabs through all open windows.

8.Ctrl+Tab =>Tabs through pages in a properties dialog box.

9.Alt+Print Screen =>Copies only the active application window to clipboard.

10.Switch to the TaskBar =>Press Ctrl-Esc at any time to bring up the Start Menu.
Once the Start Menu appears, press Esc to close the menu while keeping the Taskbar active.
Then, press Tab to switch to the row(s) of running applications on the Taskbar.
