RIL & also other companies applied for un also other companies applied for unified license

This week’s biggest 4G news is Reliance Jio Infocomm has applied for unified license
to offer any type of communications over its 4G/BWA spectrum won in
2010. That means Reliance Jio can offer voice and messaging services as
well as data services over its 20MHz of 2300MHz spectrum.
Govt recently has come up with unified license policy to open up new
opportunities to telecom sector of the country. The new policy will
delink the spectrum from the license to offer different services.
Reliance Jio, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries will pay Rs 1,658
crore to the department of telecommunications to get unified license.
There are another two companies applied for unified licenses. One is probably Tikona Digital Networks.

Reliance Retail Grows
Reliance Industries’ retail subsidiary Reliance Retail has become the
country’s topmost retail chain. Earlier country’s retail market was
dominated by Future Group. I earlier predicted that RIL may use its Retail chains as launchpad as well royalty programs for promoting its 4G products. It seems RIL is going this way.

Rancore Associates with TranSwitch
Rancore Technologies, the technology and development arm of Reliance
Jio Infocomm has announced a deal with TranSwitch, a global leader in IC
production. TranSwitch provides innovative integrated circuit (IC) and
intellectual property (IP) solutions, which help the customer and
network infrastructure segment in delivering core functionality for
video, voice and data communication equipments.
Rancore will use TranSwitch’s Atlanta 80 communication processor
to launch Reliance’s next generation broadband services. The processor
will enable Rancore’s new analog terminal adaptor (ATA) to support
multiple services and applications simultaneously, including 4G
high-speed data and high quality Voice over LTE (VoLTE) (Long-Term
Evolution) without undermining performance. Additionally, the processor
will offer 100 Mbps wire speed router throughout for Ethernet frames and
will support virtual private network (VPN) services as well.

Airtel 4G may be in Delhi by Next Month
Country’s largest mobile operator and first 4G-LTE operator, Bharti
Airtel continues expanding its 4G market, as Delhi is probably their
next 4G market. If all go right, Delhi, country’s one of the most
lucrative data market will get Airtel 4G by September.

Google Digital to Buy Shares in Tikona
There is strong rumor in the market that Google is looking to enter
India’s high-potential-but-yet-to-mature data market. As per reports by
EconomicsTimes Google Capital is in talks with Tikona Digital to buy a
stake. Tikona has 4G licences in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh East and West,
Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.
The publication also reported that Yahoo and Microsoft are also
showing interest to buy shares in Tikona. But officially no one
confirmed this development. If Google-Tikona deal materializes, it could
change India’s digital landscape considering Google’s Fiber services in
United States. However we guess it’s very early stage to forecast
anything.

Videocon 4G by March 2015: Promises Ultra Cheap Data
Videocon mobile services is in an advanced stage of discussion with
Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN, earlier Nokia Siemens Networks) to
roll out 4G services. Videocon has 5 MHz spectrum on 1800MHz band in 7
circles and will use FDD-LTE technology to offer 4th generation high
speed internet access over this band. Videocon expects to start roll out
of 4G services by the end of this financial year in a phased manner
city by city based upon the market potential.
“We are known for providing value for money to customers. Our tariffs
for 4G will be among the lowest in the country,” said Arvind Bali,
director and CEO, VTL.

Huge 1800MHz Spectrum Sale Coming: FDD-LTE Dominance?
Govt of India is in plans to put up 285 MHz spectrum of 1800 MHz in
next auction as Supreme Court asked to sell all spectrum released by
February 2012 license cancellation.
However 285 MHz spectrum is available separately across 22 circles.
But with unified spectrum and license policy many operators are
definitely use this band for rolling out 4G services. Idea and Vodafone,
major telecom players without any BWA spectrum may look into it.
Globally LTE-FDD over 1800MHz accounts for more than one-third of total
LTE roll out; hence ecosystem is better than any combination.

Nokia Readies for 4G in India
Nokia is gearing up for upcoming 4G device market in India. Globally
Nokia has launched several 4G smartphones – but those handsets are
compatiable with HSPA+/DC-HSPA+ or FDD-LTE technology. But Indian 4G
operators are using LTE-TD technology. It seems that Nokia is in talks
with Indian 4G operators to bring LTE-TD smartphones.
Recently the company launched two new Windows 8 smartphone – Lumia
925 and Lumia 625. Nokia, the fallen king before Android dominance is
offering EMI and buy back options to promote Windows Phone 8
smartphones. Nokia’s Lumia 520 becomes cheapest WP8 smartphone at Rs
8500 approx.

Micromax, Karbonn, Lava/Xolo – 4G Device Market will have Many Choices
Karbonn Mobiles, another Indian handset company has expressed its
plans to bring 4G devices to Indian market. Earlier Micromax and Lava
(and its premium sub brand Xolo) also cleared the fact they will not
leave no stone untouched and will eventually bring 4G/LTE devices as the
ecosystem becomes stronger. With attractive pricing in a
price-sensitive market domestic handset companies are putting
international brands like Samsung, Nokia, LG, Sony in a tough turf.

Alright! It looks like Indians are rolling up their sleeves to beat
China in producing the cheapest tablets ever! The latest news on B-S says that Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and DataWind – the company behind Aakash
– World’s Current Cheapest Tablet (Just Rs. 3k, baby!) are teaming up
to bring world’s cheapest 4G tablet to Indians. The estimated price of
this new 4G tablet would be between Rs. 4000 – Rs. 5000 (~$100). If the
companies are successful in launching the tablet at ‘that’ price, it
would be a quarter of the price of tablets being offered by global
electronics giants. We’ve a solid reason to believe that Indians would
see 4G in India because Reliance is already getting ready to launch 4G services in India by 2012 by the second quarter.
Canadian
DataWind was instrumental in development of the Aakash Tablet which got
world’s attention for being the world’s cheapest tablet. The company
develops wireless web access products. Mr. Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO of
DataWind confirmed to the B-S that they are in primary talks with RIL to
develop a 4G tablet at a very economical price. He further said that it
is possible to fit TD-LTE chipset in the tablet while keeping the costs
low. Reliance Industries have denied any comments on this development.
There are several speculations on the Internet that Reliance is already
prepared to disturb the markets by trying to become the first network
operator in India to roll out 4G services and very cheap wireless access
devices to connect to 4G networks. Tuli further informed that they’re
working with a manufacturing partner located in Hyderabad to develop the
devices.
This story is both important and interesting as hell!
First of all; if Reliance is successful in launching cheap 4G services
in India – it IS definitely disturbing the markets. However it’s
important for the company to make sure that they implement the
technology correctly. 3G is yet to be fully functional (call drops, poor
signal, poor range, hugely varying connection speeds and frequent
disconnections, <add to the list) and 4G takes a step ahead. At the
same time, having a partner like DataWind that promises tad cheap 4G
tablets is actually a very big boost for RIL. We’ve noticed that there’s
a huge interest among buyers for the Aakash tablet, despite its
quality. With 4G in place – we are sure these tablets will sell like a
hot cake.

The Aircel 3G page on its website gives an Overview of what this technology is and what it can do. It also provides information on Aircel 3G Zones established in Chennai, Hyderabad, Cochin, Coimbatore and Bangalore wherein one can explore the upcoming 3G mobile and data services with speed up to 21.1 Mbps.

In 3G Spectrum Auction, AIRCEL emerged as the biggest spender which bagged 3G license for its strong hold areas and covers almost South and East region of the country. It has 3G spectrum in 13 circles – Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka,Tamil Nadu (including Chennai) Kerala , Punjab, U.P (East), Kolkata, West Bengal, Bihar & Jharkhand, Orissa, Assam, North East, and Jammu & Kashmir.

As other private 3G service provider’s 3G Web page, Aircel also uploaded the FAQs related to 3G and has a section where subscribers can register for 3G services. The page also enables mobile phone users to check whether their Mobile Phone/Device is compatible with 3G.

Aircel isn’t the first operator to create a 3G web-page, Tata Docomo, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications (RCOM) Idea Cellular and Vodafone Essar had already unveiled the 3G dedicated web-page on their websites.

NSN, ZTE win part of Aircel 3G order in India

Helsinki: Nokia Siemens Networks and ZTE Corp.said on Wednesday they had won

orders for 3G network equipment and services from Indian operator Aircel, a unit of

Malaysia’s Maxis Communications.

China’s ZTE said its share of the 3G deal was worth $85 million, while Nokia Siemens

did not unveil the value of its order which covered three regions.

Bharti Airtel, India's top mobile phone operator, is on track to roll out 3G wireless services by the end of this year and its chairman was optimistic about the high-margin offering.

The third-generation (3G) services would facilitate faster Internet on mobile phones and help operators grow their data revenue in a market where voice calls account for close to 90 percent of companies' revenue.

Bharti won licences this year to provide 3G in 13 of India's 22 telecoms zones, in an auction which saw bids at much higher levels than expected. Bharti and its peers spent a total of more than $23 billion in acquiring the licences.

A vicious call price war last year amid stiff competition in the 15-player market had sent call prices tumbling as low as 0.4 US cents a minute, hitting telecoms firms' financials.

"For far too long, this industry has been under severe pressure," Bharti Airtel Chairman Sunil Mittal told reporters.

"I believe we are entering into a new era in telecommunications," he said, referring to the upcoming 3G services, and expected it to lead to "some margins coming back to the industry".

Bharti has named Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks and Huawei Technologies as its network equipment partners for 3G and has said it is in talks with other operators for alliances to provide 3G services beyond the 13 zones for which it has licences.

Bharti officials have previously said high bids in the auction would mean that 3G services may not come cheap though they would be competitive in pricing the services. This raises concerns that the premium services would have a slower uptake in a price-sensitive market like India.

Mittal said on Thursday they would ensure that 3G services are "affordable", without elaborating.

Bharti, which now operates in 19 countries across Asia and Africa after its $9 billion African telecoms acquisition this year, also said it had crossed 200 million total customers. Mobile is Bharti's biggest business but the company also has some fixed-line, broadband and satellite TV customers.

4G technology- a step ahead of 3G

WHAT NTT DOCOMO SAYS ABOUT 4G

At NTT DOCOMO, we aim to achieve a world of ubiquitous communications, where all manner of devices can connect seamlessly, anytime, anywhere. To do this, we are aggressively engaged in R&D on 4G technology. To enable a smooth transition from 3G to 4G, we are also evolving 3G technology within the context of current services.
One particular aspect of 3G development that we are promoting is Super 3G / LTE. The purpose of Super 3G is to simultaneously ease the transition to 4G and maintain 3G's long-term competitiveness relative to other wireless technologies by developing services based on W-CDMA, use of which is still growing steadily worldwide.
We are upgrading our current 3G services by initiating the introduction of High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), which increases the downlink data rate of packet services, and by finalizing specifications for High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA), which enhances uplink speed. HSDPA and HSUPA not only increase transmission speed, however - they also increase transmission efficiency in the cover area by 3-4 times relative to W-CDMA, making them effective technologies for reducing cost per bit. As you can see, we are steadily achieving a data-efficient, cost-saving upgrade of W-CDMA in the run-up to full implementation of the 4G network.
Super 3G also proactively incorporates new technologies into wireless access systems in order to handle multimedia and ubiquitous traffic - data types that are rapidly becoming indispensable to modern life. Super 3G hopes to achieve a maximum downlink transmission speed of not less than 300 Mbps - a result that would realize dramatic improvements in performance. Super 3G is also counted on to further increase spectrum efficiency while substantially reducing latency. Achieving low latency is essential for improving transmission quality because it reduces the time required to initiate a session, enabling stress-free packet data transmission.
Our expectation is that Super 3G - the link between 3G and 4G - can be introduced with minimal investment in equipment and at low operational cost because it uses the same frequency band as 3G and can be deployed over already existing W-CDMA equipment.
Super 3G proposes to eliminate complexity from wireless networks and mobile handsets, enabling the construction of a simple, low-cost system. For example, a typical 3G network provides packet and voice services separately, whereas Super 3G is based on an ALL-IP network covering both packet and voice services. Moreover, introduction of an ALL-IP network for Super 3G will facilitate a smooth transition to 4G using a configuration that enables 4G wireless access capacity.
In pursuit of Super 3G standardization, NTT DOCOMO proposed a Super 3G Basic Concept to the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) in November 2004; 26 companies to date have agreed to consider standardization under the name Long Term Evolution (LTE). In June 2006, basic agreement was reached on the fundamental concept and its realization; the process has now advanced to discussion of technical specifications, which are expected to be finalized in September 2007.
NTT DOCOMO is meanwhile conducting R&D on 4G, with the aim of introducing it from 2010 onward. Designed performance ratings are 1 Gbps in motion at low speed and 100 Mbps at high speed. On December 25, 2006, NTT DOCOMO became the first in the world to achieve a packet signal speed of 5 Gbps in an outdoor test in a low-speed environment (10 km/h). The test was undertaken to demonstrate the expected maximum transmission speed in an actual cell environment, taking into account interference from peripheral cells. Looking ahead, NTT DOCOMO will continue its R&D on 4G, and collaborate proactively in international standardization.

After the launch of 3G in almost every corner of the world, the mobile companies, subscribers and analysts have started talking about the generation ahead- 4G. The companies are promising faster speeds and the ecstasy of being the first one to use a new ellipsis. Sprint Nextel Corp. is the first carrier to release its first 4G phone, the EVO, this week. 25 to 30 cities will receive Sprint’s 4G service. MetroPCS Communications Inc. is also scheduled to introduce its first 4G phone around the same time.
For consumers, 4G means, in the ideal case, faster access to data but broadly speaking; it’s a new way to use the airwaves, designed from the start for the transmission of data rather than phone calls. Other than that, it’s difficult to point to things 4G can do that 3G phones can’t. According to Matt Carter, president of Sprint’s 4G divisions, the upgrade to 4G is more likely to enhance the things one can already do with 3G and one should view it as the difference between watching regular TV and high-definition TV.
Another aspect to the point is that the introduction of 3G started in earnest about five years ago, but it isn’t complete and the improvement from 3G to 4G is not as dramatic as the step from 2G to 3G, which for the first time made real Web browsing, video and music downloads practical on phones.
AT&T and T-Mobile are using different 3G technology and so they can upgrade their 3G networks. Verizon and Sprint have maxed out their 3G speeds so taking the step to 4G is natural for them, especially when they have new chunks of the radio spectrum that they want to take advantage of.
There are certain advantages of 4G which take the 3G technology a step ahead. 4G is faster for quick back-and-forth communications something which is not noticed when surfing the Web or doing e-mail. 4G will work better for multiplayer gaming, where split-second timing is important and even phone calls could benefit from shorter audio delays.
Worlds first comercial 4G service provider
Broadband provider TeliaSonera has launched the world's first commercial 4G service, it has announced.
The firm, which supplies telecommunication services to customers in Nordic and Baltic countries, has made long-term evolution (LTE) broadband available in two major European capitals.
Web users in Oslo, Norway, and Stockholm, Sweden, will be able to benefit from high transmission speeds and capacity on their laptops through the new service, TeliaSonera said.
The internet service provider added that 4G broadband will "open up new possibilities" such as advanced gaming and web TV broadcasting to customers.
Commenting on the service launch, TeliaSonera's President and Head of Mobility Services Kenneth Karlberg said he was "very proud" of the achievement.
He added: "The use of mobile broadband in the Nordic countries is exploding and customers need higher speeds and capacity. This is why we have launched 4G services in both Stockholm and Oslo."
Last week, UK broadband provider O2 announced it had been trialling LTE broadband technology in Slough, in conjunction with Huawei.

4G technologies are geared towards flawless network coverage. This technology is aimed to provide high quality of service to end users without dropping signals. The major problem with the wireless technologies is their signal attenuation. International telecommunication union, which is monitoring the international standards for wireless communication is demanding considerable improvement in multi media services over the cellular network. They require improvement in multimedia message services and video streaming in order to support 4G. This network technology is expected to provide 100megabits per second for mobile users, while 1GBps for fixed users. This network is also forecasted to provide interrelated roaming throughout the world. It is also predictable that this technology would be attuned to all types of wireless devices like wireless adapters, express cards and many more. The infrastructure of 4G will follow all the standards of previous generations.

IPv6 Requirement

4G network is based on IPv6 support rather than IPv4. it is IPv6 which is supports network devices. Increased number of IP addresses also removes the need for NAT (network Address translation). NAT is a term referred to sharing minimum IP addresses with larger number of devices. Besides this improvement Nat would also has to communicate with the other devices on the previous IPv4 devices. 4G has also brought improvements in network infrastructure. For example 3G used both circuit switched and packet switched network nodes, while 4g is merely based on packet switching, hence lowering the latency of data. The basic 4G standards include LTE advanced and 802.16m.

Objectives of 4G:

This wonder technology is expected to cover the data rate deficiency in previous generations. It is also aimed to achieve quality of services. This technology would provide many multimedia services. These multimedia services would not only include voice chat and video calls but also includes MMS, HDTV, video chat, and voice over the internet. This network would allow interactive roaming with existing LAN and digital broadcasting systems. This network's goal is to provide 100MBps data rate for moving customers and 1GB for stationary users.. So that the users can enjoy uninterrupted connectivity with high speed anywhere they go. Very smooth handover over heterogeneous networks. Flawless connectivity and international roaming across innumerable networks of the world is its next target. It should also provide Very high quality multimedia support in order to get approval from ITU. The interoperability with existing network infrastructure is another prominent feature of this technology. It is an all IP switched network and several working groups propose that it should offer an open internet protocol. The early 4G technology comprise of flash OFDM, 802.16e, wireless or mobile WiMax and HC SDMA. Now share those precious moments instantly with your friends! Upload pictures and videos on your social network directly from your phone – and don’t worry about the file size! While larger files would need more time (as upload speeds are lower compared to download speeds), the 3G network will allow uploads at blazing fast speeds.
Airtel recommends to use HSPA handsets as it enables you to enjoy the full power of the 3G on your phone, be it real time video conferences or watching the next T20 live !

After the Indian government gave green flag to launching 3G services in India, Airtel has taken this story further. The company will be launching 3G services soon. Airtel has recently tested 3G applications with various suppliers and will be soon launching 3G services in India. Initially the company will be launching these services in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore cause these are the 2 places where Airtel has testes their 3G applications, reports Economic Times. The DoT will be allotting 3G spectrum to various mobile service players in India and Airtel will be taking good advantage of this opportunity. Airtel has also partnered with SingTel who has experience is offering 3G services. By the way, many countries have started adopting 4G when India is on its way to embrace 3G but I am sure that India will catch up soon.

Tata Docomo 3G Ad India

Life on Tata DOCOMO 3G

Discover the exciting world of 3G.3G translates into a richer experience at blazing speeds, all on the go!

Tata Docomo To Launch 3G Across 9 Circles In India On Diwali

The 3G network will be rolled out across nine telecom circles where Tata Docomo has a licence, in partnership with Japan's NTT Docomo, the global leader in the 3G space.
