~sweet brynn~

little brynn turns one this month so her mommy, steph, asked me to do family photos with a cake smash! i have known steph for a really really long time because we went to elementary school together! steph, her husband walter and i were in the band together at dulaney high school where we made some pretty awesome memories all because of our amazing band director mr. paxton whose life was cut way too short earlier this year : ( steph and walter have raised a super cute little blondie, brynn, and it was so neat to watch her walking so well!! the cake smash provided us for a lot of laughs on this beautiful day!

this is my absolutely gorgeous friend erin. we have been the "erins" for a long time now...like elementary school long time! she's one of those friends who... years pass, new friends come and go, life moves forward and we might not talk for ages and then we reconnect and you realize why old friends are truly the best friends in the world : ) in one day i was able to meet her super cool rock star (like in a famous band rocks star) husband AND her precious new baby girl presely at their beautiful home. yes, i know, i've been in california for a long time!!! the day we took these photos it was beyond hot and muggy and rainy so between trying to stay under trees and running indoors to avoid a downpour i think we managed to get some beautiful shots! they were great sports about it and clearly baby presely didn't mind as she fell comfortably asleep despite the conditions! also i can't believe the colors of the flowers in their yard-they were unreal! i can't wait to watch presley grow up~ if she's anything like her mommy the world will be a wonderful place!

words can't describe what this place means to me, has done for me and how much better my world when i'm crossfitting : ) i competed in my first competition this past saturday and it just so happened that we hosted the event. jaime and nick put on the most amazing day with almost 300 athletes and double that in spectators! i am more than proud to call this place home! it was the first crossfit event i have ever attended....i know...after 8 months of doing this you'd think that i'd have been to one by now. so, why not compete in it too?!?! i had many intentions of taking lots of photos of all of my team mates throughout the day but my nerves got the best of me and all i could think about was my next WOD that i thought the camera should probably be put away and i should only focus on competing. i'm looking forward to bringing the camera back out though during more events and even to daily WOD's just so i can practice with the indoor lighting. my team mate james so nicely gave me a quick brush up on some settings for events like these but more practice will definitely be helpful!

{hadley}

my beautiful best friend leslie and i have a standing date on saturday mornings hiking with our puppies and sweet hadley. it's our chance to catch up about the week we just had, get some sunshine on our face and to just laugh and be ourselves. her little angel hadley is most laid back and go with the flow baby who just smiles and kicks her legs while watching the puppies go crazy in the field. i'm so lucky to have leslie in my life. she's not only an amazing friend but watching her as a mommy brings a smile to my face : )

i got to visit with this sweet family at their beautiful home on a drizzly may morning last week. it didn't stop us from catching some great shots on their front porch and in the yard. chrissy is an old friend...we go as far back as preschool! little charlie will be attending the same preschool in the fall where chrissy and i first met : ) he's such a sweet older brother and his little voice and words just melt your heart!

i love my yearly holiday photography tradition with one of my absolute favorite families! sweet little mason was an angel of mine in the NICU a few years ago and he has grown into a smart, sweet, hilarious, active little man who has truly been a miracle from day one...when he was born at 23 weeks. he is obsessed with his three older sisters and i think i can say that they are equally as enamored with him as well! i told these girlies that we should send all preemies home with them because they clearly have made this awesome little guy who he is today! can i mention their mama? not only is she a hero of mine for the love she gives to her kiddos and for the care she gives as a fellow nurse, but she is one beautiful beautiful mama!!! clearly, good lucks run in the family : ) i cherish my friendship with this family so much and am so grateful that they a part of my life!

thank you patrick and danielle!

2013-01-15T16:06:00.000-08:00

this couple is so much fun! i was so excited to wait with danielle and the rest of patrick's team early in the morning to watch him fly his helicopter off of the aircraft carrier onto the tarmac in north island coronado. it's always such a moving sight to see the families and loved ones waiting for that long awaited moment to put their arms around their soldier! these are my favorite favorite photo shoots and i'm always a teary eyed mess~ especially this time as danielle went running out to hug patrick! it was even funnier when his team mates came running with arms wide open as well! thanks to patrick for your service and danielle for your patience and patriotism in loving a warrior! i wish you nothing but the most amazing wedding week : )

i love engagement photo shoots! when a client asks me how many photos they will receive from my shoots i usually answer with a number between 50-75. it's just how it works for me after all the editing is said and done, almost every time! i think this couple got double or triple that from me~ i was talking to chris about it and realized that i'm so used to shooting families with babies, kids, dogs and lots of people, that aren't all looking at the camera at the same time, that when i had two adults willing to have a great time and try new things my audience was very captive and highly cooperative : ) so....i love engagement photo shoots! i wish i would be asked to do more of them but since i'm not a wedding photographer (most people have their wedding photographer do their engagement shoots) the only people who really contact me about them are people who are having hometown or destination weddings! if you are thinking of having engagement photos please contact me!!!!

this couple was awesome! we came up with three very different and unique locations and had a blast at all three of them! we started at the suspension bridge that connects banker's hill to hillcrest in san diego. it was my first time there and definitely will not be my last! love love loved it! we chased the sun that was setting to the santa fe train depot in downtown san diego and than finished off the shoot at copley hall where the san diego symphony is housed and where this beautiful couple met and works!

julie and tommy are planning a fall wedding in nebraska and i can't wait to see photos of this bride and groom. when editing their photos i was in awe of how naturally beautiful julie is~ she's probably not wearing much if any make up and her wardrobe choices were simple and flattering. i loved how sweet the two of them interacted when i told them to simply act natural for the camera. we had a great time popping some bubbly during the shoot, writing in sidewalk chalk and playing in the railroad tracks! i hope they love the photos as much as i do~

i love twins!!! especially handsome, sweet, funny and photogenic ones : ) this family is beautiful...i mean come on.....look at this mama!!! a stunning warm evening at swami's beach in encinitas~ i love winter beach sunsets! their christmas card idea was awesome as well! grandma joined along in the photo shoot and i loved capturing her boys climbing and loving all over her! can't wait to hopefully take more photos of them this year and watch these angels grow!

2013-01-06T11:23:00.002-08:00

my best friend's dad died the other day. he was young and in good health. my mom called me on my way into the hospital for work and the sinking feeling when she told me hasn't left since that morning : ( i grew up next door to the buscemi family. they are the coolest family. so many words to describe mr. vince ~ he was handsome, kind, funny, smart, calm, gentle, honest, loving, sweet....i could go on and on. my mom asked me when the last time i saw him.... my answer was "my whole life". kate has been my best friend since i was 3. i can't imagine the pain their family is feeling. i've spent the last few days with so many amazing memories of weddings, parties, being in their home, spending holidays with them and simply being a part of their family. he will truly be missed. go hug your dad, or in my case, send him a text that simply says "i love you".

i took this photo at kate and josh's wedding. the entire bridal party was getting ready and he was spending some time in the freezing cold, outside, looking at the sky and i'm guessing he's thanking god that he gets to walk his youngest daughter down the aisle this day : )

mr. v sent me this email 5 years ago and i've always kept it. how many of your best girlfriend's fathers tell you they love you? pretty amazing : ) love you too mr. v.

i completely fell in love with this family. they invited me into their home to capture an intimate afternoon with their new baby boy dominic. i couldn't have been more thrilled. maria and curran are friends of friends....and are now my friends : ) mama spent many many weeks at home on bed rest growing this sweet little love inside of her and she did an amazing job. they made first time parenting look like a breeze and spoke so genuinely about their brief visit to the NICU. they weren't in my NICU but it seemed as if they were well prepared to bring dominic home! they've traveled a long hard road to bring a baby into their home and these are people that are savoring every moment of this new and fabulous life !!! god is so great : )

i love this family so much. i had the honor of caring for sweet kaia who is now a walking, talking, opinionated and loving sister, in the NICU a few years ago! she was such a teeny tiny little miracle and i bonded with her mommy and daddy during their long days and nights by her bedside while they waited for her to grow so she could join them at home. now, kaia is the proud big sister to eva who was born a few days after thanksgiving! i had the pleasure of being the nurse at eva's delivery and was able to laugh and cry with them during the moments leading up to and during her birth. it was absolutely amazing and is probably one of the brightest moments of my career as a NICU nurse. i visited them at their new home a few days after they brought eva home to capture some moments with my camera. i hope you enjoy these as much as i do....xo

this was my first time shooting at the crystal pier in pacific beach even though i had lived a stone's throw from it for many years! it's a very popular tourist spot but we were able to go early in the morning so we had the underside of the pier all to ourselves. although it was windy and cold, beautiful little shelby didn't seem to mind at all : ) mommy and daddy couldn't be more photogenic~ and they're as gorgeous as they are sweet! i hope to be able to photograph little shelby as she grows! maybe they'll hire me for my favorite kind of photo shoots some day.... a reunion when daddy returns from deployment!

simply put, i am in love with this little man ethan. he is such a charmer with those dimples and beautiful eyes! baby brooke louise has been born since this shoot and i can't wait to capture ethan with his little sister! michele always looks gorgeous when she's pregnant and these photos definitely show off her natural beauty! i loved capturing ethan alone with his mommy and than alone with his papa. we had to pull out his little stuffed elephant babar for some comfort and it definitely did the trick and put a smile on sweet ethan's face! i hope you enjoy these photos as much as i do! they were taken at the san elijo lagoon visitor's center just before sunset!

Finally! I can get back to blogging! I was hesitant during and before the holidays to post a lot of my photo sessions because I didn't want to spoil everyone's holiday cards and gifts! So....now that the holidays are over here I go! I have many blog posts to get to but I will start with one of my good friends Juli and her family! I've been photographing sweet little Evelyn for a few years now and at this photo shoot Juli informed me that Evelyn will be having a little brother in March! I couldn't be more excited for them! I also can't wait to photograph their sweet baby boy! Enjoy the photos...I'm a little partial because I love their sweet golden Maggie~ she looks a lot like my Nalu when he was a pup! Every family should have a golden : )

i love this little guy. i also enjoy every time i am around his sweet parents too. his mommy, chrissy, and i have grown up together since we were 8 years old : ) she's always been such a kind person. i can already tell that charlie has inherited that from her....lucky guy. charlie has such an innocent sense about him and he is so beautiful too. we decided to take photos on the campus of towson university where chrissy and calvin met. we were greeted by a rain storm and freshman move in day...so we rolled with the punches and made the best of the situation! i hope they enjoy the photos as much as i do and i hope i can continue to be their family photographer during my future visits to baltimore!

[b. family ]

this was a very bittersweet photo shoot because it was the last time i'd probably ever be at a place that held 27 years of amazing memories to me! we decided to take pics at the buscemi home which had recently sold to a new family that were starting their lives. my dad built this home for the buscemi family when i was 3 years old. i grew up directly next door. my bestest friend in the whole world, kate, grew up in this home. i will never forget being 7 years old dancing on their kitchen table with kate when my parents called from the hospital to let me know that my little sister holly was just born. i will never forget our late night michael jackson dance parties in the family room with the whole buscemi family where we moved all the furniture and rocked out. i will also never forget when this beautiful couple alex and andy set up a tent in the back yard and said their "i do's". i will never forget. we had the best childhood, the coolest parents and amazing homes that my dad put his sweat and tears into building. it's true that he doesn't just build houses...they are magnificent homes. i had a great time taking pics of kate's brother's family here. they are a beautiful family who are more than just friends to me. the best part about growing up and about moving on is that there are more memories to be made, more little babies to be had and wonderful stories about how we got to where we are : )

these are my friends amanda and ethan from high school. aren't they picture perfect?!?!

amanda decided on this awesome maryland location...annie's playground. annie was a beautiful little girl who was hit by a drunk driver in baltimore after leaving the circus with her parents in 2003. this playground was built in her memory. it is more than just a playground- it's a child's dream land!!! you can make a donation and read more about the playground here. i recommend to all my maryland friends with kiddos to spend some time at this amazing place!

the kids obviously had a blast as we ran around laughing with them and chasing after them! this family and their little cousins couldn't have been more photogenic! we had a great crowd at the photo shoot and amanda's parents even helped to rein the kids in! i loved editing these pictures and hope they enjoy them as much as i do : )

(brianna)

4 years.

i traveled to baltimore last month and photographed this sweet little one. we skipped and held hands and laughed...she's a gem! i've known brianna's mommy, jen, for 25 years! how incredible? we rode the bus together since i was in kindergarten. As you can see, her daughter is amazing! We met early one morning at my aunt and uncle's farm in monkton where we got to see chickens and horses and kitties. Most of all I loved seeing the Maryland state flower- the black eyed susan!!!! i wish there were more farms like this in san diego but than again i'm sure the people in maryland wish the spectacular pacific ocean was in their back yard as well! i guess we can't have it all in one place : )

the littlest graduates!

our NICU held it's annual little graduate picnic this year at mission bay in san diego. UCSD puts on a great event that just gets better and better as the years pass! old and new friends were there to spend some time in the sun, eat some yummy bbq and to be amazed by how incredible these little ones are! it's an event that always reminds me how lucky i am to have found such a beautiful passion in life!

here's a link to the online album with hundreds of photos i took at the event- check it out! click here! password is: nicu

daisy love

daisy was a sweet baby that i had the honor of caring for and loving in the NICU. daisy miracle passed on but left an incredible network of people with generous hearts. lauri and bill, daisy's parents, started a foundation in her honor that provides our NICU with financial support. you can check out their amazing work and some beautiful photos of daisy here. i am so lucky to have the brennan family in my life. enjoy the photos of this year's silent auction fund raiser. it was held in a breath taking location and the day couldn't have been more daisy-sent!

i.love.my.job.

tomorrow is our annual ucsd nicu little grad picnic. it's an amazingly special event. there aren't many words i can use to describe how awesomely rewarding it is to see these families all in one place enjoying the day and each other. i have met some the best and most important people in my life in the nicu and a lot of them while i was caring for their sick babies. i love watching these babies grow and become little people. stay tuned for pics from the event. all of the pics below are from last year. this year, i was asked to be the official photographer and can't wait to capture all the sweet smiles that will fill the day!

Your profession is not what brings home your paycheck. Your profession is what you were put on earth to do. With such passion and such intensity that it becomes spiritual in calling.

*** riley ***

sweet baby riley was in our NICU and will be turning a year this week. for our photos we met at fletcher cove in solana beach....such a sweet spot in my heart. icing on the birthday cake, the day was beautiful with baby blue skies and refreshingly clear green ocean. the photos speak for themselves- this family is so precious together and riley is always smiling and enjoying her parents. it was great to spend time with them outside of the NICU. i can't wait to see them at our annual little grad picnic this weekend : )

*kalei*

i've had the honor of photographing this family frequently throughout kalei's life. i love watching her grow up -she is a perfectly beautiful combination of her mother and father- lucky girl : ) her papa, jason, was home on leave from afghanistan for a short R&R....i hear he has safely returned to his naval duty of protecting our country and for that i am forever grateful. i can't wait for his safe return state-side and hope they are in need of more photos in the future : )

i feel the need to publicly apologize for putting this family in danger- we had a run in at mission trails with a rattlesnake. i get the goosebumps even typing that sentence. we rolled with the punches, found a new location and had some laughs mixed with tears. call me a baby but unfortunately it will take me a long time to go back...i think kamilah and i might get a 2 for 1 deal on therapy regarding this incident.

i love this little face and i hope you do too...if you scroll through my blog you'll see how much she's grown over the years. i had the pleasure of caring for her in the nicu when she was born 15 weeks prematurely at 25 weeks gestation. her mama and papa have been through a lot but are the most dedicated and loving parents i've ever seen. they rock.
