For everyone, everywhere, who's ever looked at the stars and thought, "I wonder if we could live there?"

－Charles Stross, Neptune's Brood

We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.

The Human Division [Hardcover Version]

Old Man's War、The Ghost Brigades、The Last Colony

The Human Division 發生的時間點在 The Last Colony 和 Zoe's Tale 之後，也就是 Colonial Union 因為受到外星聯盟 Conclave 和前 CDF 士兵 John Perry 的影響，被迫和母星地球切割之後的故事。

Episode 10 "This Must Be The Place" 中有段本書最精彩的獨白。

雖然說整本書剔除了 grok、Thou art God (and I am God, and all that thing groks is God)、growing closer、water sharing 等等好像也沒什麼新奇的地方，但現在總算可以想像這本書為什麼在那個年代會被 (某些族群) 捧上天。

Agent to the Stars

Alif the Unseen (by G.

"....Every person is defined by the communities she belongs to and the ones she doesn't belong to. I am this and this, but definitely not that and that and that...."

"...I'll do everything I can," said the Speaker, "but first I have to know you, or how can I tell your story? I have to know you, or how can I know the drink is poisonous or not? And the hardest problem of all will still remain. The human race is free to love the buggers because they think the buggers are all dead. You are still alive, and so they're still afraid of you."

"...But why does a single piggy in any other forest have to die, just so you can have these gifts? And why would it hurt you in any way, if we also gave the same gifts to them?"

(The collected sayings of Muad'Dib)

"There is in all things a pattern that is part of our universe. It has symmetry, elegance, and grace — those qualities you find always in that which the true artist captures. You can find it in the turning of the seasons, in the way sand trails along a ridge, in the branch clusters of the creosote bush or the pattern of its leaves. We try to copy these patterns in our lives and our society, seeking the rhythms, the dances, the forms that comfort. Yet, it is possible to see peril in the finding of ultimate perfection. It is clear that the ultimate pattern contains its own fixity. In such perfection, all things move toward death."

"How often it is that the angry man rages denial of what his inner self is telling him."

LMGTFY！)

R.I.P., Paul Harland。
Rule 34,

(There's porn for it. No exceptions)。

Charles Stross

Flashback 閃憶殺手 (by Dan Simmons)

Old Man's War 描述了老人 John Perry 離開老家地球成為對抗外星異族、保護人類 (humanity) 的 CDF (Colonial Defense Forces) 士兵的過程；The Ghost Brigades 則是關於特種部隊的故事，時間點在前作的幾年之後。

我喜歡 The Ghost Brigades 遠超過 Old Man's War。

緊接著來看 The Last Colony！

The Windup Girl (by Paolo Bacigalupi)
