Remembering Mr Phil Lynott - The Roisin Dubh - Forever Legend

Last month, I was in #Dublin City to celebrate this great man, 75th Birthday Anniversary. Mr Phil Lynott ❤️, he was born on the 20th of August 1949 in England, and he spent most of his young life growing up in Ireland. Phil was the front man for the first ever Irish Rock Band, Thin Lizzy, Est. 1969

Phil Lynott died on the 4th Jan 1986.

The Skegness Raggae and Ska Festival - June 2024

On Friday 28th June 2024, I went to the Skegness Raggae and Ska Festival, it was a last minute decision, I'd not been before and not been to Skegness in Lincolnshire, (UK) since my teens, it was worth the long travel.

I decided to make a new outfit for the event.

In my fabric stash, I had a vintage cloth made in Africa and floral pillowcases.

This is very much my preferred style of dress.

The festival was so-oo good, lots of people, live acts, djs, totally good vibes with on point music, dancing and Caribbean food and all by the Seaside with a sandy beach.

I could not have asked for more.

A former MrW jacket restyled by me, I did this last year for one of my many trips to Dublin, this is from The "Black Rose Goddess" Collection.

Its more of a Symbolic piece, the three of clubs, the two women have Black Roses in their hair symbolising rooted history, on the back of the jacket there is a hand stitched large Black Rose, (took me ages, worth it though) & on the sleeves are my favourite two lines from the song Roisin Dubh.

My inspiration comes from an early 1970's fashion photoshoot with #PhilLynott wearing a Army style shirt and his Crown Afro. #ThinLizzy Forever&Ever...

This is the starting of my Thin Lizzy - Black Rose T-shirt mini dress, I am in the middle of choosing which lace to use.

I am really excited about creating my Debrafide Roisin Dubh Collection.

I have been wanting to create a Thin Lizzy Band inspired clothing collection for a long time.

In the past, I have worked on a few pieces off and on, however I think it is now time to really concentrate on what I feel I want to do through my love admiration for the band Thin Lizzy and also step into and using my own artistry and creativity.

And just really tapping into the creative stream of the band and of course Mr Phil Lynott.

What a great find, I found this haberdashery treasure in a RSPCA Charity Shop, now, I have no idea when I will use this set, of course I think jewellery first, button ring and necklace pendant for the buckle.

This set is so cute and even the card the buckle and the buttons are attached to, is great, it looks like a 1930's - early 1940's design.

Hello!

Today I popped into a Salvation Army Charity Shop and bought a neck tie that I thought would make a great bib necklace, I have not made one of those for years and this one has Griffins in the jacquard weave, I also purchased a circled table cloth, ready for a refashion straight away.

On my way out of the store I saw the magazine above, I asked if I could take one, inside there is an article about Sustainable Fashion.

It would be great if there was a PDF sewing pattern or fact sheet to purchase, with ideas and suggestions on how to up-cycle that went along with the projects, mentioned in the magazine article.

Last year I studied Up Cycling And Recycling with "YouTube University", I learned so much and saw my sewing ideas increase.

Of course I have a few UFO's (Unfinished Projects) awaiting completion, however I really threw myself into to the activities and I am very pleased with the results.

2024 Haberdashery Find - January: Metal Buttons.

I bought these buttons from an Antique shop, I love it when a plan comes together.

For the past week I have been studying and researching the life of some 1920's and 1930s entertainers and film starsesp. The one's who made a transition into the "talkies"

My inspiration has been Art Deco/Art Modern and even dances of the 1920's like the "Black Bottom".

When I saw these button's I gasped, as I thought they look so Deco and once I picked the bag up and felt they have a good weight, I started designing in my mind how they could be used in jewellery or on a jacket for epaulettes.

Sadly there are no makers markings underneath.

However what a great find.

This is not a skirt for the shy, I find that due to the "frou frouness" of this skirt, it enters the room before I do.

The top part was a pair of jeans that I had in my recycle fabric stash in a smaller size and added more denim, and the bottom half is Valance/Bedskirt made in two tiers.

I cut up the leftover fabric and made patches for the back, blanket stitching by hand, and I made a head scarf to match.

Hello, I know its been a while since I have posted.

I was going through a box of greeting cards and post cards that I have been collecting over the years and came across this card from the later part of the last century, which interests me as I also own cards from the early part of the 20th Century also.

Contalf Castle Through The Ages (Vol 1&2)

I remember a few years ago when I first saw this tapestry at #ContarfCastle, I was really taken with the amount of work that went into this creation and this is a big tapestry.

I visited again in June (2023) and what's lovely to see, is that intwined into the piece is the reference to the #ThinLizzy song: The Friendly Ranger at Clontarf Castle (1971).

I love visiting this castle, there is a lot of history in this area seeping up from the ground and I feel so attached to the place.

My Maxi Skirt Inspired By A Prada Patchwork Dress.

This skirt is called "Showdown" from my "The Roisin Dubh Collection", the centre design was inspired by a Prada Patchwork Dress from three seasons ago, I was very taken with dress and decided to incorporate the design into this skirt.

The fabrics used for this skirt came from various sources, some from a trip to Ireland a few years ago to pieces I have had for almost twenty years or more.

I enjoy using up pieces of fabric to make new lengths of fabric.
