Making little money from AdSense is easy : Set up the ads and leave them. Making REAL money is much harder. This article helps you understand the Adsense revenue generation mecanism (Business Model) so you can take advantage of every parameter in it successfully

AdSense revenue is based on a very simple formula you aught to know by heart :

Revenue = Traffic x click Through Rate x Average Revenue per click

This is also called The AdSense Business Model.

Revenue

This is the result of the formula, the amount of money that goes into you pocket.

Traffic

In this context, traffic is the number of times a google ad is displayed on your website for the considered period of time. If your pages are seen 10.000 times during a month, your traffic is then 10.000 provided you place adsense ads on all your pages. To get 10.000 page impressions a month you can, for example, have 5.000 visitors viewing an average 2 pages per visitor or 8.000 visitors viewing 1,25 pages per visitor...

Please note that google can also show "public service" ads that are not taken into account which will reduce you traffic.

click through rate (CTR)

CTR is how many clicks you get out of 1 (one) page impression. It is generally close to 1% or 2%. A CTR of 3% means that a traffic of 10.000 resulted in 300 clicks.

CTR indicates how well the ads are doing, of course the higher the better but do not dream of a 30% CTR!

Average Revenue per click

As the phrase indicates, this is the amount of money Google pays you (in average) for every click. It can be 5 cents, 20 cents or many dollars.

The process that determines the revenue per click is complexe and will be discussed in other articles.

Before you read on, we strongly recommend that you carefully read our article about the adsense pricing model since the strategy we will be discussing is mainly based on taking advantage of the adsense pricing model.

As you probably know, there are three main ways to increase adsense income on a website:

• more traffic

• higher CTR

• higher CPC

The strategy we are to reveal aims at getting a consistently higher CPC.

Let's consider the following case: you run a website with some traffic and three ad units (Top banner, Right Hand Skyscraper and a half banner at the bottom) and you make $ 130 a month.

Let's see how you could double your income by showing fewer ad units. Here are some details about your website:

• Traffic: 9.000 visits and 25.000 pages viewed in average every month.

Unless you have understood the adsense pricing model, you may be wondering why CPC is so different from one ad unit to another. Anyway, this is normal since the ad that gets the higher paying ads is the one that first appears on the HTML code (the Top banner) and is followed by the second one (Skyscraper) then comes the third (Half banner).

Let's now cut down the number of our ad units keeping only the Bottom Half banner. This means the half banner shows first on the HTML and so gets the two best paying ads. Since it is the first ad unit, it should have the same CPC the top banner used to have. Moreover, a banner shows 4 ads where a half banner shows only 2. This will result in a considerably higher average CPC for the half banner (due to more competition). CTR will at least stay at 4% since we kept the same placement, same colours. but could also increase to something like 5% because your advertising will be less intrusive.

Let's now see how much money you will be making with no change in your traffic stats:

As you can read on the chart you could easily make $ 230 in the most pessimistic scenario while an optimistic scenario could yield more than $ 300!!! with no change to your traffic and a better reader experience.

Can I use it on my website?

Yes most adsense publishers can use it. However, there are some preliminary conditions to getting the most out of it:

• If you are in a low paying market (like arcad and games related websites) where CPC is around 5 cents no matter how high your ad is in the HTML code, don't use this strategy as it won't do much for you. On the opposite, if you are in a high paying niche this strategy could work great for you.

• You also need an ad unit with high CTR, compared to the other units on the same page, while having a lower CPC. The bigger the differences are, the more you could increase your revenue.

If you can fulfil the two above conditions, then hurry up and remove those ads that keep you from making real money.

Want more money?

OK! Now that you have reduced the advertising pressure on your visitors, you can choose to sit down and watch increased loyalty from your readers, more links... (long term results) or choose to get even more money now (short term) by adding ads to the space you have saved.

As you know, link units and referral products are perfect for that since they do not compete with ad units (so you can add them with no risk to the above strategy).

Of course you can use other advertising programs instead of adsense but we won't discuss that as this is a "make money with adsense" website!!

Applying for an AdSense publisher account isn't hard. Just go to http://www.google.com/adsense/

You will see the following page and you will need to click on the "Sign up now " button as shown bellow.

Next, fill in the form you will be shown and click the "Submit information" button at the bottom of the page. Keep in mind that some of the information you will provide here won't be editable so be carreful not to make the slightest mistake (read and read your application form again before submitting).

Here are two things you should pay attention to when applying for your adsense publisher account:

- Contact information is crucial because all your payments will be blocked untill you enter a secret code you will be mailled to the address you provide. Wrong address means NO payment ! In this section, payee name (generally your name) and country won't be editable.

- Product selection : check both options (I don't know why they give this choice)

The next page confirms the information you entered and asks if you already have a Google account. If you use another Google service like Blogger, Adwords... then check the first option. If not, check the second one and go on by creating a new Google account.

Google will then confirm that your application has been successful.

Wait for 1 or 2 days and you will receive the follow up message in your mailbox. If you are accepted, you will be able to log in to your AdSense account and start showing ads on your website / blog.

Let's have an in depth look at each important word in this definition:

Fast

To enable AdSense ads, you just need to insert a few lines on your pages' HTML code. This code is generated via a user friendly interface and no technical knowledge is needed to achieve this task. Generating the AdSense code won't take you more than a minute once you have an AdSense account and you will get something like this :

How Much Can You Earn With AdSense?

The commission you receive per click depends on how much advertisers are paying Google for the particular ad. You will earn a share of that amount. I've heard of earnings anywhere from 2 cents to $15 per click.

So it is logical to believe that keyword phrases like debt free, employment, make money, mp3, sex, etc. may earn you more per click since these are highly competitive keywords that are searched for quite a bit on the web.

Advertisers generally pay more for popular terms because they are searched for more.

Even though Google will not reveal how much you are earning for each ad that is clicked from your site, you can still login to your account at any time and see the total amount of revenue you've generated that day, week, month, year, etc.

For example, if you see that you've made $12.60 today from 9 clicks then you can calculate that your average click-thru commission was $1.40 per click. That's as detailed as their stats will get. Also remember, that's only an average. You won't know how much each specific ad brought in.

The amount you'll earn also depends largely on the amount of targeted traffic you receive to your own site, how well the ads match your audience's interests, the placement of the ads on your pages, and of course the amount you receive per click.

Ideally, you should create a site on a topic you know a lot about. That way you'll have a much easier time creating a generous amount of content on that subject.

My Google AdSense Earnings

I have been receiving monthly checks from Google since 2003, and I've read numerous success stories of websites earning 5 digit incomes per month with AdSense.

Now, I will admit, a 5-digit commission in a single month is probably not the norm for most participants.

I promote AdSense on 6 of my websites (2 blogs, a forum and 4 static sites) and my monthly checks are usually around the $7,000 mark.

My sites have been around for a long time and I have a great deal of traffic so that's a big reason why I earn so much. I promote my sites on social media, create YouTube videos etc. Making a lot of money with AdSense is all about numbers. The more traffic you have, the greater the earning potential.

My checks weren't always this large. I think my first month's earnings in 2003 totaled less than $20. However, as my traffic increased, so did my checks.

AdSense is NOT an overnight get-rich-quick opportunity. Even though this may look easy, please don't underestimate the amount of time I've put into my sites and how much content I've written over many, many years.

My total traffic combined across all my sites is over 30,000 visitors per day. It takes a lot of traffic and time to build up your earnings. This is not a game, people! It's hard work.

What is AdSense?

Pakistan, China to boost cooperation in space technology

AMABAD: Pakistan and China have agreed to promote cooperation in space technology. Both countries have agreed to launch joint research and development ventures in intelligence gatherings from space.

Pakistan and China have also agreed to replace current communication satellite PAKSAT-1 with Paksat-1R which will be launched on Aug. 14, 2011.

A highly-placed official from Ministry of Defense Production told Arab News: “We have agreed to develop in Pakistan and China advance satellite imagery gathering system, guidance system and early warning system for intruding missiles.

The official said an agreement for the project was signed between SUPARCO and China Great Wall Industry Corporation in the presence of President Asif Ali Zardari in Beijing in October 2008.

The agreement for the ground control segment of the satellite was signed in October 2009 during Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani’s visit to China. A Framework Loan Agreement between the two governments was signed in June 2010. Under the agreement, the Chinese government would provide RMB 86.5 million concessional loan for the ground control segment.

Militaries of Pakistan and China have already cleared the project. Experts from ground, air and naval forces of the two countries will be involved in the project during R & D stages and later during its physical implementation, officials said.

President Obama’s India Visit - China And Pakistan Watch With Care

US President Barack Obama’s three-day visit to India may not produce some earth-shaking bilateral agreements, but it is sending seismic waves around Asia, especially in China and Pakistan.

From India’s point of view the expectations start from bilateral interests. The “Next Step in Strategic Partnership (NSSP), and “Shared Values” between India and the United States were crafted to seek how the largest democracy in the world and the strongest democracy in world would build trust, and yet remain independent to agree to disagree on certain issues. It is a mature approach which no one can find fault with.

On a large scale the people of India are waiting to hear what President Obama has to say on restricting visas to Indian professionals, restricting outsourcing and placing penalty on American companies which outsource work to India. The USA cannot press for opening the Indian market further to their agricultural products, while hugely subsidizing their agricultural sector which works against India’s agricultural sector, imposing western policies on environment and climate change while declining to share technology and provide assistance to the developing countries, among other countries.

The differences on nuclear trade issues between India and the USA are getting narrowed down. The main obstruction from the US is to the nuclear accident liability law enacted recently by the Indian parliament. The US, hopefully, has been able to appreciate the Indian position, especially against the backdrop of the human disaster caused by the Union Carbide gas leak in Bhopal 26 years ago, in which the American company got away very lightly. A nuclear accident can cause much greater tragedy, and adequate compensation must be on hand immediately to address such a situation. But pressing for the extradition of former Union Carbide Chairman Mr. Anderson to face manslaughter charges would not be suitable during the Presidential visit.

American politicians and those in administration, as well as their advisors who are in and out of the government have various issues about media, some harbouring a hold back from the cold war era. This is because of myopic vision and lack of interest in looking at sub-regional, regional and global changes in the new perspective. India of the 21st century by no means is the India of the 1970s or 1980s or even the 1990s.

For example, some in and around USA’s nuclear policy-making establishment were dismayed with the India-US nuclear deal on the issue of proliferation, despite admission by the American government that India’s record is absolutely clear.

This mistrust lingers even today in the US Department of Commerce and defence. While pressing to sell military arms and equipment including advanced military aircraft to India, the reluctance to transfer high technology and dual use technology remains. In addition, sanctions on Indian entities like the DRDO, lSRO and others following India’s May 1998 nuclear tests still remain. All those do not spell either “strategic partnership” or “shared value”.

No true relationship can be built upon a foundation where mistrust still remains. The US expects a business of $10 billion from nuclear trade, and far more from defence sales. These will create new jobs in the US where the employment index is still to improve.

It would be simplistic for the US to expect such huge sales to India without full trust, and concrete assurance that spare parts and technology will follow. India cannot accept a situation where the tail of an aircraft is in India, and the Congress pass an amendment by which the rest of the aircraft is prohibited from export to India. It happened after the 1998 nuclear tests, leaving a bitter taste in India. Russia scores here over the US. They follow up with spare parts and technology.

The US may consider taking a page out of India-Russia Defence Co-operation. For example, the joint production of the Supersonic Brahmos Missile which has all the three versions of land, air and sea launched. There would be an India-US co-operation in a range of new generation arms and equipment. That would strength strategic partnership.

Another high priority on the Indian agenda is for its membership of an expanded US Security Council or the Perm-5. President Obama has gone only to the extent of supporting a major role for India in the expanded UN structure. To Indians, this is not enough. It would be a set back to bilateral relations if the US bows to China’s insistence and that of the “coffee club” to keep India out of the UNSC. This would be a signal test for the India-US strategic partnership on the “next step”.

India and the US are co-operating and sharing intelligence in the war against terrorism. But how much are Americans sharing intelligence where Pakistan is concerned. US officials claim that they had given all information on David Headly, the US-Pakistani, who recced Mumbai on behalf of Pakistan supported terrorist organization, the LET, and Pakistan’s intelligence agency the ISI.

According to the Indian government, no information on Headly was received from the US about the Mumbai terrorist attacks. Indian agencies faced a lot of stone-walling before they could get access to Headly in US custody earlier this year. The US agencies were aware of Headly’s activities long before, but did not apprehend him. This is a repeat of the Pakistani nuclear proliferation, Dr. A.Q.Khan. The CIA knew what he was doing, but did not take any action. This mind set of the US has to change.

It is no secret that Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and the freedom of international shipping in the South China Sea will be discussed during President Obama’s visit. This is not surprising because they portend developments that could derail stability from one end of Asia to the other. It is not only India’s concern but that of many other countries who have a stake.

The recent US-Pakistan dialogue (Washington, Oct. 20-22) saw increased American financial support for Pakistan, especially for military assets to counter terrorism. The signals, however, suggested that US has a no option but to depend on the Pakistani Army to counter terrorism, and prepare for an exit from Afghanistan.

There are three questions for India. What can the US do to curb and eradicate Pakistan sponsored terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir? How does US see India’s role in Afghanistan after US withdrawal because, otherwise, India will have to find alternatives. What is the US position on the new Pak-China nuclear deal which threatens the very edifice of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) to prevent nuclear proliferation?

Pakistan did not get much encouragement from the talks on the proposed Pak-China nuclear deal, an issue high on Pakistani foreign Minister Qureshi’s agenda. The issue is far more than China’s “Civilian” nuclear support to Pakistan for its energy requirements. Especially for China, if this deal goes through it will be the first step for Beijing to shape international relations as it deems fit. That is, in the 21st century China will replace, what they perceive, as global rules forced by the west. China, emphatically, is striving for a reversal of the established order.

China is looking at President Obama’s India visit as reenergizing Washington’s effort to encircle China, using India as a key actor in this strategy. India’s China experts, especially policy makers, are blissfully unaware that Chinese India experts, the armed force, and the foreign ministry, see India as a country which can match and outwit China in strategic actions and counter it. Many Indian experts have been swamped by Chinese propaganda or psychological warfare that Beijing does not even consider New Delhi as a serious competitor. A close study of Chinese strategic writings over the last twenty years at least, reveal that they view India as a difficult contender which stands against its domination of Asia.

The Chinese hold a lot by historical relations and connections. To the Chinese, Pakistan is a new born country which loathes India on issues of Pakistan and the independence of Bangladesh from Pakistan. Beyond this, however, is India’s historical and cultural relations with South East Asia and the Far East with relations conducted through religion and philosophy. It is unlike the Chinese army invading and marauding Indonesia, and China sponsoring people’s revolution in these countries between 1950s and 1970s. China’s relations with its eastern and South East Asian neighbours are based on compulsion. There is very little trust, even from Myanmar.

Nevertheless, China is in a hurry to establish its hegemony on these countries before the hollowness of its edifice comes to the fore. Nuclear power can threaten, and massive conventional military power can intimidate. But that is for a time only. More powerful stake holders are not going to stand by and watch.

Very recent writing in the Chinese official media, which is the only window to assess Chinese thinking, suggests how they are viewing President Obama’s visit to India. These writings are aimed at influencing views of both India and the US strategic partnership.

The following are some of the questions that China tried to inject in the Obama visit context (i) “Shared Values” in India-US relationship is aimed at China, with the US bringing together Japan, Australia, South Korea, Vietnam and other countries to encircle China (ii) China sees a virtual anti-China alliance in the making which could debilitate China unless it handles issues astutely (iii) in relation with China’s assertiveness, it sees an India-US strategic relation to influence the countries from Far East to South East Asia (iv) advocates India-China co-operation to counter US and western strategy to benefit from this (v) advocates India-China co-operation to emerge as big powers and shape the “Asia Century” (vi) blames sections of the Indian media to rake up issues like Chinese intrusions along the borders, and issues of paper visas for Kashmir domiciled Indians, as small issues (vii) encourages India’s independent foreign policy towards China, and (viii) says India will only use USA but would not follow the US line. The Chinese media also reveals some apprehension on India-Russia relations.

It is clear that Beijing’s propaganda machinery is working overtime to divide India’s relations with USA and Russia and vice versa, and create some mistrust. The Chinese military, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has also been given the responsibility to engage in psychological warfare.

Briefly, India has to work through this maze in working with the USA and China. The only interest is self interest. China is looking at India to bail it from American pressure which ranges from currency manipulation charges, to human rights abuse, minority issues and development in Asia Pacific region. India has to engage with the US, but be vigilant about China’s double speak.

Pass The Parcel Bomb - America's War On Terror Has Its Downsides

Yesterday Al Qaeda made another attempt to attack the American mainland, the third in almost twelve months. What this illustrates is that America's supposed 'War On Terror' continues to have its downsides.

The number one downside is that the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have failed to deal with the threat posed by Osama Bin Laden's network. Al Qaeda may have left the building in Afghanistan (for the time being) and they were drawn like a moth to a flame by the US invasion of Iraq. The fact that yesterday's series of un-detonated bombs originated in Yemen clearly illustrates one thing - that when you chase Al Qaeda from one location, they just set up shop in another.

Already, Al Qaeda has reportedly done so in not just Yemen but also Somalia (a so-called "failed state") and Pakistan. As I have argued in many previous blogs on this issue, the Americans chose to deal with 9/11 through taking a sledgehammer approach to matters. Consequently, this has backfired big time with a series of terrorist incidents being perpetrated against Western targets since 2001 with London, Madrid and Bali being the most significant of these. Through a combination of good intelligence/policing work and just dumb luck, America has escaped yet again (and by the skin of its teeth).

Unfortunately, Al Qaeda will probably succeed in attacking the American mainland - and soon. Al Qaeda has the tenacity to keep coming up with plots in an attempt to keep Western governments on their toes. It has been reported as well that Bin Laden, in planning 9/11, was hoping that the Americans would over-react and turn up in Afghanistan - which they did. Perhaps when historians are looking back on this war in 100 years, they will argue that this response, conditioned by decades of American neo-imperialism, was not the best option.

Instead, America should have looked inside itself. While it was hurt on 9/11, the American nation should have taken that time to look at its past history of waging aggressive wars in the Middle East and elsewhere. Specifically, the American leadership should have ideally asked as to how these wars and other interventions had sown resentment amongst the Muslim peoples of the region. This has been the case due to the US alliance with Israel and its other misguided historical entanglements in Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Syria and Saudi Arabia. While Al Qaeda's tactics and strategy are largely shunned by the vast majority of Middle Eastern people, Bin Laden has still been perceived by some Muslims as the man who is standing up to the might of America. In fact, Bin Laden has portrayed himself along these lines in that he helped to crush one superpower (the former USSR) and now wants to single-handedly do the same to the remaining superpower (the USA).

So, despite President Barack Obama's visit to the region last year, popular emnity towards America remains a fact of life throughout the Muslim world. And if America wants to think about how it can best secure itself against any further terrorist atrocities from Al Qaeda, then it might want to think about ending its role as a global bully boy. However, the reality is that this won't happen anytime soon. For the time being, Al Qaeda will just continue to play pass the parcel bomb and in doing so target innocent Americans who, at the end of the day, will have had nothing to do with their country's past aggressive actions.
