Here is a prayer that a young guest of ours wrote in chapel tonight. More proof that little ears hear what we say, both good and bad.

Dear Heavenly Father,
We love You so much, and you fill us up with Your love. And we know that you're great because you created beautiful things.

The Boys get a day out of the Mission

Living at the Mission, can, at times, bring a measure of stress. Sometimes Chaplain Don from time to time, likes to take the Disciples on a much deserved break away from the Mission. The break this day was a trip to Minden, Ne and the Pioneer Village as well as a fine meal at a restaurant in Grand Island.

Inward change, of course is the change that God wants from us, but an outward change does wonders as well.

One young man is heading for a life in the Army, and the other gentleman is trying to have his outward appearance reflect the change in his inneer man

Today the Immanuel Lutheran School 4th grade Christmas Committee paid us a visit and brought along some much needed canned goods. Thank you to all of the young ladies and gentlemen who chose the Columbus Rescue Mission as the recipient of this much needed food.

Busy day at the Columbus Rescue Mission

One of the many things we rely on volunteers for here at the Mission, is helping with mailings. Well, here we have a diverse group helping with our last mailing of 2011, the mailing of the year-end statements to our donors. This time around we have some men helping so the talk at the table which usually varies from recipes, grandchildren, and fashion now also included recent hunting and fishing trips. It sure looks and sounds fun.

Columbus Christian School helping out

The students at Columbus Christian School came through mightily for the guests of the Columbus Rescue Mission this Christmas. Instead of buying gifts for each other, they decided to help those who are not as blessed as themselves.

Ms Danhauer's class of 3rd and 4th graders donated a bunch of new socks to the Mission and Mrs Deruchie's 5th and 6th graders donated gloves and hats to help our guests stay warm this winter.

Our friend Rich getting one of the last turkeys given away on Wednesday

What are we praising the Lord for? How about an empty freezer and cupboards. We are aware that we have often used this space to ask for food but today we are bragging on God's provision. In the last 3 days we have given away more than 170 Turkey baskets which contained everything needed for a traditional thanksgiving meal. Those 170 baskets were going to feed well over 500 people. Thank You God for all you do for us.

A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor.

This is Kelsey. Kelsey decided that she wanted to help other kids who are not as blessed as she is and came up with a plan. With the help of her father she raised and sold pumpkins, 70 pumpkins in total. With the money raised she bought some blankets for the younger guests at the Mission. Mom also came across a couple of extra turkeys and dropped them off for our turkey give-away.

BURTON — Services for Leslie J. Larsen, 54, of Columbus will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Burton with burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Springview. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Friday at Hoch Funeral Home in Ainsworth with a 7 p.m. prayer service. He died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at Columbus Community Hospital.

Memorials go to the Columbus Rescue Mission.

Les stayed for a good season in his life here at the Mission.
