It is an independent, not-for-profitorganization actively working on emerging issues related to the conservation ofnatural resources, and the improvement of living conditions of people in theHimalayan region.
Himalayan Nature is a science-based organization and takes an independentview of biodiversity conservation issues. We provide scientific advice onaspects of environmental management to government authorities and otherconcerned nature conservation organizations. Periodically, we releasestatements to help improve awareness among the public and policy makers of environmentalsituations. The organization is supported by internationally renownedscientists who have long experience of the natural history and ecology of theHimalayan region. We work closely with other research and conservationorganizations within and outside Nepal, complementing their work and exchangingdata.
The wide geographic coverage of the organization's work includes thenorthern part of India, Nepal, and Pakistan, the whole of Bhutan, southeastTibet and the northern part of Myanmar. However most of our work is in Nepaland India. We are based in Kathmandu and have three field study centers inNepal, in Koshi, Chitwan and Lumbini. We collaborate with severalcommunity-based organizations working in higher altitude environments.
We can be contacted at the address given in this web page for furtherenquiries. We appreciate any assistance or advice that helps achieve the goalsof Himalayan Nature.

HimalayanNature is setting up a bird observatory and field education centre at a sitejust north of Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve (26 degree 46.93' N; 87 degree08.28' E), which is a well-known corridor for migrating birds. This is aspecial request inviting you to support us through your generous donation.

Wehave recently started bird ringing using Nepal's own rings and the Nepalgovernment has given full support to our program of establishing a nationalringing scheme. In addition to being a valuable way of finding out about thepopulations, life-cycles and migration strategies of birds, ringing can also bea great vehicle for raising public awareness for bird conservation. The birdobservatory will have an information and community support centre and will giveopportunities to show birds up close to community members. We will invite local and national politiciansand officials to visit the centre to convince them of the importance of theenvironment and the creatures that inhabit it. They are the people who canbring about the changes in policy for better conservation and management ofbird, wildlife and overall natural resources.

Withyour support and good wishes will we be able to set up Nepal's first birdobservatory, so please support this project as much as possible. We are highlyindebted to The Wetland Trust UK for sponsoring the project and to the RedPanda Network US for their support in this new innovation by Himalayan Nature.

Pleasesend us your institutional support and logo for displaying in our brochure andweb page.
