Tango is one of the dances we note really resonates with people, and can be an enjoyable and dramatic dance. Just remember to keep your “tango face” in situ!

We also had our first group rehearsal with our dancers for our upcoming anniversary Gala next month. It’s starting to come together nicely and we can’t wait to perform for you next month. Don’t forget you’ve only got a week to secure your tickets!

Finally a reminder to ALWAYS ENTER YOUR NUMBER PLATE when arriving at the studio. We’ve cancelled a few tickets this week and have used up our allocation for the month already!

⭐ Antony & Emma’s tip of the week
To get the correct starting position of the Tango feet, start facing the wall (or backing for the follower), keep your heels on the spot and turn the feet 45 degrees anti-clockwise. You should end up with your right foot in the instep of your left foot, and they should be in this position every time the feet close.

A reminder that bookings for our 20th Anniversary Gala at Dorney Lake on Saturday 4th July close on Saturday 20th June. We can’t guarantee the venue will permit any changes after this date.

We can’t wait to celebrate such an amazing milestone with you all.

Samba is one of those dances that often surprises people. It looks fast and energetic, but once you let the music take over, it becomes a really enjoyable dance.

We suspect there may be a few smiles (and possibly slightly tired calves!) by the end of the week.

⭐ Antony & Emma’s tip of the week
Try not to look at your feet. We know — easier said than done! The more you trust where your feet are, the easier it becomes to dance with your partner rather than thinking about individual steps.

• Foxtrot:
  • Beginner – Social Foxtrot basics, a check in the corner, maybe a promenade walk
  • Improver – The basic Slow Foxtrot pattern
  • Improver 2 – Walking technique, and how that improves your Foxtrot and moving in sync with your partner

  • Intermediate 1 – Hover Telemark to Promenade, Weave from Promenade Position

We have held our prices since September 2023, despite continued increases in the cost of running the studio and the wider day-to-day costs of the business.

However, our lease is due for renewal this year and, unfortunately, this will result in a significant rent increase. After a great deal of careful thought, we will therefore need to make a small price adjustment from 1st September 2026.

We have worked hard to keep this increase as measured as possible, while still allowing us to continue offering the same friendly teaching, quality classes, and welcoming dance environment that our students value.

What this means

From 1st September 2026, our updated prices will be:

Adult Group Classes

• £10 per session
• £45 for 5 sessions
• £80 for 10 sessions

FitSteps Dance Fitness

• £7 per session
• £31.50 for 5 sessions
• £56 for 10 sessions

One Dance Courses

• £55 per 6-week course

Private Lessons

Private lesson prices will also be increasing from 1st September 2026.

Lesson prices will range from:

• £32.50 to £52.50 per session with Denise/Tom
• £42.50 to £62.50 per session with Antony/Emma

Package prices will continue to offer the same 10% and 20% reduction on the equivalent per-session rates, with the same 6 and 10 month expiry periods.

Wedding packages will also be increasing in line with Antony/Emma private lesson prices.

A full updated private lesson price list will be available in the studio and online from 1st September.

A few important notes

Any sessions or packages purchased before 1st September 2026 will continue to be honoured at their existing price and under their normal expiry terms.

The new prices will apply to new purchases made on or after 1st September 2026.

We will continue to do our very best to offer excellent value, high-quality teaching, and a dance school that feels welcoming and supportive to everyone.

Membership Scheme Option

We will also be introducing a new monthly membership option for regular dancers.

This will offer a simple monthly payment, inclusive group classes, and some extra member benefits. Full details will be available separately, so please ask us if you’d like to know more.

Our beginner Rock & Roll course extends on Sunday 24th May, and our next beginner course will be Waltz from Sunday 12th July.

A reminder that we will be open on Bank Holiday Monday for the afternoon tea dance, and the evening beginner and improver classes, but the Waltz course won’t be taking place on either Monday 25th May nor 1st June.

Also we are looking into the possibility of reintroducing regular practice sessions at Learn To Dance. Either on Friday evenings or Saturdays (either afternoon or evening). If that’s something that might be of interest please let us know (including whether you have a preference).

Finally the booking deadline for our 20th Gala is Saturday 20th June.

⭐ THIS WEEK’S TIP
Your toes should always be in contact with the floor during most Rumba steps, we tend to lift the heel off the floor and articulate the ankle.

Beginner Rock & Roll Extension

Our beginner Rock & Roll course extends from Sunday 24th May.

The extension costs £50pp and is available to book now.

Beginner courses will switch to Waltz from Sunday 12th July.

Bank Holiday Opening Times

A reminder that we are open on Monday 25th May, though there will be no Waltz course that Monday all other classes – and the afternoon tea dance – will take place as normal.

The evening will feature performances from students, a two-course dinner, and live ballroom and Latin American music with the band Simply Swing.

On Saturday 4th July, we’ll be hosting a very special Gala Evening at Dorney Lake—bringing together our dancers past and present for what promises to be a truly unforgettable night.

With a beautiful setting, a two-course dinner, live music from Simply Swing, and of course a full evening of dancing, this is shaping up to be a once-in-a-decade celebration of everything Learn To Dance has become over the past 20 years.

💛 A Lovely Gesture… That Got Us Thinking

Recently, one of our dancers very kindly offered to contribute towards the cost of the dance floor hire for the evening.

It was such a thoughtful gesture—and it really meant a lot.

But more than that, it got us thinking…

🎉 What If This Became Something Bigger?

Over the years, Learn To Dance has never just been about steps or technique.

It’s been about:

• Friendships formed
• Confidence built
• Weddings danced
• Memories made

So rather than this just being our event…

With Salsa you want to let the music flow through you and keep small fluid movements. Leads for turns should not make your partner feel like they’re being arm wrestled either!

For the Salsa basic try and keep your body weight in the centre whilst moving the feet forward and backward. This will help you to cope with the speed of faster songs, and also make the dance look more fluid.

Bridgend Dance Break

Our September dance break will be at Heronston Hotel and Spa in Bridgend from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th September.

Dances covered will be Foxtrot and Samba, with a ‘Golden Age of Hollywood’ theme to the Saturday night.

Places start from £265pp (£65 single supplement) but you can save £15pp if you book before the end of April.

⭐ THIS WEEK’S TIP
When you start progressing to full rotations in the Viennese Waltz, it’s important to remember that you are aiming to move past each other, rather than trying to go around each other.

Improver Waltz Course Extension

Our Improver Waltz course will be extending from Monday 20th April, at 7pm.

We’ll be starting by revisiting the Natural Turn with Hesitation and then moving on to more of the later Bronze level steps.

Book in for the next six weeks for £50pp.

Bridgend Dance Break

Our Autumn dance break is moving away from Bournemouth for the first time in over 15 years!

The new venue will be Heronston Hotel and Spa in Bridgend on the last weekend in September.

Dances covered will be Foxtrot and Samba, with a ‘Golden Age of Hollywood’ theme to the Saturday night.

Places start from £265pp (£65 single supplement) but you can save £15pp if you book before the end of April.

• The Waltz course is extending from Monday 20th April
