For top-notch pizza, pasta and share plates that won’t break the bank, it’s obvious why locals have fallen head over heels for the Rolling Fork Bali. If you are in need of some authentic Italian dishes during your stay in Padang Padang one of the more popular Surf spot in the Bali peninsula, this is the place to go. The food is always fresh, including the pasta. They put their heart and soul into making the best Italian food available in the area with the best presentation possible. The atmosphere of the restaurant is homey and laid back. It is the perfect spot to hang out and relax for a while as you soak in the sights and sounds of the natural surroundings.

They have a multitude of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options here. Many of these options are vegetarian friendly as well. Their menu includes fresh pizzas and calzones, salads, and of course plates of pasta. We tried their salame pizza. I love how the dough was the perfect consistency and it was very light and fluffy.

I love cheese, so I also tried the gnocchi 4 formaggi. It was so creamy and delicious, I couldn’t get enough of it! If you happen to go there for breakfast, try their “boss breakfast”. It will fill you up! The restaurant itself is very inviting with a good amount of seating options. When we got our food, it looked so vibrant and delicious.

I would recommend trying one of their juices or smoothies because they also taste very refreshing. I wish this restaurant was available where I’m at because I truly miss it. Their chefs know how to cook their food just right. It hits the spot without the meal feeling heavy on the stomach. I would highly recommend the Rolling Fork! You won’t regret coming. Our tip? You must not leave without trying legendary spaghetti aglio olio.

Sun and tan with a cocktail in hand—a time-tested image of Bali as the name pops up. Although the island caters to all types of travelers more often it attracts the tropics-at-heart as they seek the sun, the white sands, and, of course, the waves.

The lush beaches of Kuta and Seminyak have probably been touted ad infinitum, but for the wanderlusts who constantly seek fresh and less-populated spots, the island still has a few secret gems in store. Though increasingly busier these past few years, the beaches of Berawa, Batu Bolong, and Echo in Canggu is still worth the visit for the majestic sunset, as well as for hipster-sighting and surfers riding the waves. The beaches here (including in Kuta and Seminyak) are indeed a surfer’s heaven thus not suitable for the casual swimmers due to its strong undercurrent.

To swim, head more to the south to Uluwatu region where white sands and turquoise water awaits! The cliff-based Bingin is one of the people’s beloved “secret” beaches as you must descend innumerable steps to touch the sand. But your effort will be greatly rewarded with the sight that makes you want to jump straight to the water, surfboard or not. Afterward, take a rest and sip a healthy smoothie, cool coconut water or an ice-cold Bintang at the many cliff-side cafes. There are also various homestays available in case you’re not up to climbing the steps and decides to spend the night instead.

Another secluded spot in Uluwatu is Gunung Payung beach: descend the more-or-less 300 steps and you’ll find the beach nestled between two cliffs— a perfect escapade from the more touristic sites. In fact, if you’re lucky, you can settle inside a wide open-fronted cave under the cliff—accessible when the tide is low—and just enjoy the sound of the waves.

Nyang Nyang beach is an isolated & the undeveloped beach of fine white sand, popular for surfing and wedding venue; accessible via a stairway.

And the thing about Bali is that the beaches are not exclusively sequestered in the south—head east or north for even quieter surroundings. Keramas beach is a gorgeous black sand beach on the east coast in the Gianyar regency where the annual World Surf League Competition is often held in. Otherwise, go for the laid-back vibe or visit the only available beach club and resort in the vicinity, Komune Bali. If you got your diving or snorkeling equipment in hand, head further east to Amed in Karangasem regency, a beach more renowned for its beautiful underwater scene, or to Tulamben where many divers go to take a snap of the sunken USAT Liberty ship.

Next up: Menjangan Island—or deer island as the name derives from the native deer who is still living on the island. It’s located off the coast of Buleleng and it’s a snorkeler’s paradise as well with exceptional coral reefs and rainbow of fishes as you take a dip. It’ll take about an hour to get to the island by boat from Pemuteran beach and currently there are no homestays or hotels for you to stay in so it’s better to take a full-day excursion and rest around Buleleng.

The atmosphere in Seminyak is much more laid back and sophisticated than Kuta. Located north of Legian, Seminyak is an upmarket beach town filled with fashionable high-end restaurants and bars. There’re also many luxury villas that dot the coast and fill the town. Although Seminyak is a suburb of Kuta, it is fondly known as Kuta's trendy neighbor.

Seminyak is popular with Bali's expatriate community, most of whom reside there. Thus, land and accommodation prices are amongst the highest. The reason Seminyak resort is well liked by expats is that it provides the perfect balance of seclusion - the beach is quieter in the day and it's not exactly a backpacker's playground, and exhibition - Ku De Ta is the place to be if you want to be seen.

Getting Around

The small streets of Seminyak can get pretty congested and there are only two main routes into town. The best way to get around Seminyak is to rent a motorcycle or bicycle or to go on foot. It can get a tad confusing because a number of roads have alternate names. For instance, Jalan Arjuna (Jalan is road in Bahasa) is also known as Jalan Double 6 or Jalan 66.

Where to Stay

If you're planning a trip to Seminyak, chances are you are willing to blow some cash. A fine selection of hotels awaits you. One such hotel is The Elysian. It is one of Bali's first luxury hotels and it resembles a traditional Bali village. Seminyak villas are popular amongst tourists as they are a short distance away from the action. Resorts worth considering include Aman Resorts and Bulgari Resort Bali.

What to See

Located on the west coast of the southern region of Bali, Seminyak beach is relatively quiet during the day. Regular beach activities like surfing, sunbathing and swimming can all be done here but Seminyak beach is famous for two things - high-end beachfront establishments such as Ku De Ta and its sunsets.

This beachfront location features modern architecture and interior design. Practically everyone in Bali's expatriate community shows up for sunset and cocktails at Ku De Ta. It goes without saying that Ku De Ta is the place to see and to be seen.

Tourists rarely visit Petitenget because it's fairly secluded. However, it's worth visiting the beach for its continuous expanse of grey sand. You will also find a pretty Balinese temple off Petitenget. Pura Petitenget was built by Bali's most important priest, Nirartha and has been around since the 16th century. Although it is not one of the key nine directional temples of Bali, it is known for its spectacular beachside ceremonies and is one of the important sea temples in Bali.

Berawa beach is five kilometers from Seminyak. Many go to Berawa to meditate and do yoga. Here, you will witness the daily life of typical fishermen who catch their fish from traditional boats.

What to Do

Seminyak is the high-end spa capital of Bali SPA. Your spa experience will be one of great luxury and sophistication. After heading on a Bali holiday, many Australians make the decision to go and live in Bali, Indonesia as an expat. There could be a variety of different reasons for this. Some may want a spiritual journey, others may just want to relax in this fantastic part of the world. On this page, we are going to talk a little bit about how an Australian expat may live in Bali.

One of the most commonly asked questions about living in Bali is how much it is going to cost. The truth is, there is no real answer that can be given here. It will be cheaper than Australia, that is for sure. In fact, you could rent an apartment residence in Bali for as little as $50 a month. Of course, many of the people that head to Bali as an expat are doing so in order to recreate their relaxing Bali holiday (maybe a holiday where they enjoyed a touch of yoga?). This means that you may wish to stay in a slightly more luxurious private villa. Have no fear! You can do that here too. These can cost as little as $300 a month. Not bad, right?

When it comes to food in Bali, or Indonesia as a whole, for that matter, it is cheap. Even the best quality food comes in surprisingly cheap. You can eat a quality meal for less than a dollar. There are some places where you can pick up some imported Australian food, but if you are going to move to a whole new country, then you may as well make the most of it!

The island of Bali is one of the most incredible surf spots in the world and has been known for years. Lately, the numbers of surfers in Bali has increased big time and also many Balinese go International for surfing competition around the world. Not only that it has been so many times Bali also make the International Surfing Competition, but many surfers from overseas also come and join the surfing competition.

Facilities for beginners, intermediate, advanced and professional surfers on Bali has been improved, surf shops and schools in Seminyak, Legian, Sanur, Nusa Dua, and other spot surf will sell just about everything that you need for surfing. Uluwatu is just incredible beach for surfers, attracting surfers from all around the world and beware Uluwatu is for experienced surfers only. The access is quite complicated and there is a very small beach among rocks and cliffs. There is a bar on the top where you have amazing views. There is accommodation just there so this is the place if you go to Bali just for surfing.

Actually, Indonesia has some spot for surfing, maybe if you have plenty of time for surfing you should go to G-land (East Java); Mentawai and Nias (Sumatra Island) and Sumbawa (Flores). Bali's coastline provides an ideal place for surfing. varying conditions, reef and beach breaks create great waves for both veteran surfers and beginners. The southwest of the island with its arid and rugged area, is composed of limestone cliffs that provide some of the best views in the world, well known surfing breaks among the surfers and paradise beaches such as Balangan, Dreamland, Bingin, Padang-Padang, Uluwatu and Green Ball. It is a magic long coastline of white sand dotted with beautiful sandstone cliffs overlooking the ocean at high tide.

Balangan beach is located on the western side of the Bukit, just one km north of Dreamland, turn left on the main crossroad with jalan Uluwatu. Balangan is basically a left hand suitable for intermediate surfers but also for beginners. The waves get perfect when the wind direction is south-east and with mid tide, it is not a crowded spot. If you walk to the right side of the beach you will find the Pura Balangan, the local temple.

Uluwatu, as all the western side spot, works during the dry season, from April to October. There are 4 different surf spot: Temples, a long wave that works on the mid to hight tide. The Peak, just in front of the warungs. Racetrack, a super fast wave. Outside Corner wich won’t even break if the swell is not in the 8 range. Uluwatu can get very crowded especially during July and August. It has the same name of the famous temple, it is a spot only for good and serious surfers and it is at the top of the surfer’s destination list.

Padang- Padang only works when there is a big swell. It’s a particular wave, surfers come from all over the world to ride it, and it is not for evryone. It’s name Padang-Padang refers to the balinese pipline. It has the best waves of Bali and it i salso the most dangerous spot of the island. In Padang-Padang you can meet some of the best surfers of the world, especially in August during the Rip Curl competion wich select the professional surfers that will participate at the contest.

Bingin is the next reef after Balangan beach. The spot works better doing the dry season, from April to October with a swell direction from south and size 3-5 ft. There is only one small take off area and it gets really crowded during July and August, you will have to fight to get a good wave. It’s a fast wave with barrels, this is probably why it has become more popular among surfers, it is not a long wave but it’s pleasent and easy.

Dreamland , unlike the other spots, is a beach break, it has right and left hand waves perfect for beginners and not crowded, it is not too shallow and has decent shape.

Green Ball works well with a swell direction from south, with mid tide and 4-6 ft. It is a little hard to reach as you have to follow a stair case of around 500 steps but once you bet there the waves are amazing. Just be carreful with the strong corrent there, it could take away your board.
