PTO Family Fun Night!

The Patton PTO Family Fun Night was a huge success!! We had an outstanding night of basketball and a courageous effort by our Patton staff to keep up with our very talented 8th grade basketball teams! A special thanks to the Patton staff team - Mrs. Spisak, Mrs. Replogle, Mrs. McIntosh, Mrs. Dunbar, Mrs. McMahon, Mrs. Rafferty, Mr. Murphy, Mr. Baumgardner, Mr. Musacchio, Mr. McIntosh and Mr. Walsh. Also a big thank you you to Mr. Sudimak for the team introductions and keeping the music playing all night long as well as Mr. Fulginiti and Mr. Vosburgh for officiating the games. The PTO gave away an iPad 2 to a lucky raffle winner and at halftime, Nate Christopher hit a shot from half court to win an iPod Touch! Many thanks to our fabulous PTO for organizing a great evening.

Concert Date Change

Attention parents of middle school music students: our spring concert dates have been changed to avoid conflicts with the Elementary School Open House nights. The Spring Chorus and Orchestra Concert will now take place on May 16 at 7PM, and the Spring Band Concert will now take place on May 17 at 7:30PM. Thank you for adjusting your schedules accordingly!

Patton Talent Show

Homework Requests

If a student has been absent for two or more consecutive days, parents or guardians may call the office at 610-347-2000 before 9:00 AM to request homework and class work. We ask that you speak directly with a member of the office staff when making this type of request. Please do not leave requests for class and/or homework assignments on staff members’voice mail systems or staff members' email. Parents are asked to collect all materials in the office to insure that all assignments reach the student. School personnel will retrieve needed books and materials from lockers. For additional CFPMS procedures and school policies, please view the Parent Handbook located under the "Quick Links" drop-down menu at the top of the Patton Middle School website.

GIrls Exploring Technology

Calling all girls grades 6-12! March 24 is GETT 2012! GETT is "Girls Exploring Tomorrow's Technology." Statistics continue to show that girls are not embracing careers in technology, despite an increasing need for skilled professionals in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math in Pennsylvania and across the nation. The solution? GETT! GETT is a day-long, fun, hands-on informational event for middle and high school girls, in grades 6 through 12 throughout the Delaware Valley, their parents, and educators. Chinese Exchange Students

The School Board just approved Monday to again allow Chinese exchange students to visit the middle school in January/February 2012. They will only be visiting for one week. They have a lot of interest in China to visit Patton, therefore will be looking to accommodate up to 25 students for the week of January 23, and 30 students for the week of January 30. With that in mind we will be looking for host families to host the students. Each Chinese student will be paying a $200 stipend to each host family. This is to help cover additional costs for food and travel. In exchange, we will be looking for any middle school students who have an interest in visiting the Xishan School during our Spring Break. We will host a meeting for interested students to travel to China in December. Attention parents of 8th graders! Please remind your children to see Mrs. Thacher in the Guidance office if they are interested in taking the tour of the Chester County Technical College High School on Friday, December 2, 2011 (please note this is a new date!) from 7:45 am to 11:00 am. On That day they will have the opportunity to participate in three different programs at CCTCHS. To be included on this trip they must sign up in the Guidance Office and select the programs they want to attend. Also, they will need to return the signed parent permission slip and medical form No later than Wednesday, November 23, 2011 to Mrs. Thacher in the Guidance Office. They can come down to the Guidance Office to sign up whenever they have a chance----before or during prime time, before or after lunch or at Basic. Thank you!

Recycling at CFPMS

We have been collecting toner from printers for recycling for over 3 years. This year our recycling company is accepting iPods and digital cameras. If you have any items to donate to our recycling effort please drop them in the box in the front lobby of our school or place them in Mrs Robin Martin's mailbox. The school receives "points" for our recycling contributions and, in the past, has been able to purchase digital cameras, camcorders and other materials. Please help us to recycle and collectpoint for more equipment for our school.

Important SAM Reminder

To accurately reflect a student's grade, any assignment that is not turned will have a zero in the space. If the space had a blank for the assignment whether allowed to be made-up or not, the average would reflect a higher grade than is actually the situation. The zero will allow the proper grade average to be reflected. Based on legitimate individual circumstances, the assignment may be one that will be accepted and when made-up will have a change in grade and average eventually reflected. Thank you.

Career Day 2011

Friday, June 3, 2011 was Career Day for students at Patton MS. Over 50 professionals came to school to share their experiences with the students. Artists, Engineers, Police Officers, Principals, Lawyers, Teachers, Chemists, and Veterinarians (just to name a few) were in the school to talk about their job and take questions from students. Students were allowed to choose 4 professions and visited with them for 25 minutes. The learned about the education required to get the job and what a day in the life is like. Many thanks to all parents and community members who came out to support such a wonderful learning opportunity for students. Mark your calendars for June 1, 2012 if you would like to join the fun next year!

The FCS Greenhouse!

Save money, get fresh vegetables and help others in need this summer! This past fall, the Family and Consumer Science program at CFPMS built 16 raised beds and constructed a greenhouse all with grant monies obtained by the FCS department. The beds will be planted in the coming weeks, but when summer comes we will need YOUR help to maintain them and get us ready for this coming school year. Adopt our Garden Beds for a week or more and help us water, harvest and deliver to the Food Bank. It is a win-win proposition for all. UCFEF Fundraiser

The Unionville Chadds Ford Education Foundation invites you to a Spring Jewelry Show on Friday, March 4th from 12:00-2:00 pm or 6:30-8:30 p.m. Please join us for our fund raising event on March 4th and enjoy an evening of jewelry, food, friends, and fun! 30% of all sales will go directly to the Unionville-Chadds Ford Education Foundation! The goal of the Unionville-Chadds Ford Education Foundation is to enhance educational opportunities for our children. We are a non-profit, parent-run organization staffed entirely by volunteers. Now in our 13th year, we are extremely proud of the many educational projects the foundation has helped fund that were otherwise not within the school budget. Unfortunately, the cow got caught in traffic and promises us that he will come back next time to say hello to the students. Energy Drinks

With the commercialization of many new, enhanced and well marketed energy drinks, there has been a few comments shared with me concerning student involvement with these products. While some of these products include a combination of alcohol and caffeine, these to best of our knowledge have not been issues at school. Some of these products you may be familiar with as they have made the news due to some of the dangerous incidents that have occurred due to their consumption. Some companies and businesses have even pulled them from the shelves.

The concerns coming to our attention are the legal energy drinks and student use and the sharing them with others. Though they are legal products, the reasons we are hearing for their use is risk taking behavior in and of itself. Students are seeing what happens to them when taken and how much can be taken. As we know, most things taken in excess can have negative consequences.

We encourage you to continue monitoring your child's activities and actions to include conversation with them regarding these products and their effects.Thank you for your support in this most important matter.

Halloween Mixer & Dance

It's the The Halloween Mixer, the 2nd biggest PTO fundraiser of the year! This year's event will be held on October 22, 2010 with the 6th grade "Photo Booth Mixer" from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm and the 7th & 8th Grade "Psychic Dance" from 7:00-9:00pm. Tickets are $10.00 and this includes: DJ, dancing, food, beverages, raffle baskets and more! Help support the PTO with its 2nd biggest fundraiser of the year. Foreign Language Program

The CFPMS PTO is pleased to announce the following classes will be offered this year as part of the After School Foreign Language Program:

Spanish I - Wednesday
Spanish II - Monday
Chinese I - Tuesday
Chinese II - Wednesday

French – Tuesday

This program presents a unique opportunity to enhance your student's language skills. Classes will be held in the afternoon from 2:30-3:15 for 20 weeks beginning the week of October 11 and will run for 20 weeks. The Charles F. Patton Middle School PTO is a proactive organization providing educational enrichment to the students of C.F. Patton Middle School. To be successful, the PTO activities and programs require support from all of our parents.
