Perfect Life? Or Better Actress?

We live in an era where we know of people but we don't really know them. We see their gorgeous houses, lavish vacations, beautiful children, great paying jobs, fun relationships, and overall wonderful lives. What we don't see is all the hurt, all the struggle, worry, pain, fear, and other negative emotions we humans go through. If all of your insecurities, fears, threats, angst, anxiety, and psychological issues seem more prominent you can blame social media for that.

In the past 2 years I have visited and lived in some of the most amazing and beautiful places in the world. I will graduate with my MBA in international business in June; that allowed me to move to Rome for a year -- or longer if chose. I decided to move to New York City, where my schools main campus is located, to finish my degree and look for a job. I currently live in an apartment building on the most famous and influential street in the world, with a 24/7 doorman, and every amenity you could think of sin a pool. Bare with me, this is not a brag fest, I have a point. Rent is rather expensive -- in relation to Houston TX but my fun and fabulous roommate mostly makes up for it. Overall I am abundantly blessed and have no reason to complain.

Despite what the previous paragraph stated I am NOT perfect and my life is NOT perfect I am just a better actress than most.

Depending on the day or week I, like many people, go through a plethora of emotions. I cry, I get sad, I worry -- about so many things, I get angry, I get hurt, and a little jealous sometimes. That last one I was debating on typing... but i'm trying to be honest and help someone lol.

Though I go through those emotions GUARANTEE YOU that you will not see any of them on MY Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Mainly because I don't like people in my business. In addition to that I don't want to show people I don't have it together all the time. After all, having a perfect image seems to be the essence of American culture. Why? We are scared of people judging us for our problems and issues so we either cover them up and/or don't talk about them.

I was having an insecure moment and started to compare myself to someone. This is what one of my wonderful friends told me:

FIRST! Darling, sweetheart, sugar. People exaggerate on social media SECOND, you have ALL the people you NEED in your life now and you will gain more MEANINGFUL friends after. THIRD your time is not her time nor is her time yours.

Smile, do what makes you happy and people will gravitate to it!

That is absolutely lovely advice and it applies to anyone!

On another occasion I was annoyed about someone, that I'm not necessarily friends with, getting a job. To me their seemed SOOOOO PERFECT. It was nice that they had that job and all but I wanted a job at the same place.

THEN I had a "come to Jesus", "don't be stupid", "Ashleigh get your life" type moment. I realized that the path this person was going on was truly not something I wanted to do. I also realized and thought to myself "Ashleigh some people think the same thing about you." Then I thought "but my life isn't perfect though" and was a bit confused as to why someone would think that. I realized it is because all my posts make my like look like a constant vacation. (see below)

It was quite funny to me when I was gathering these pictures because I was thinking that it is so easy to get caught up.

And again, what you don't see are all the things I struggle with. Don't be mistaken though, I am an overall happy person BUT we ALL have something we deal with. All the "must be nice comments" get old after a while -- don't be that person. I always say "life is about decisions". If you want to travel then TRAVEL, if you want to buy a house BUY A HOUSE, if you want to do whatever then DO WHATEVER. Figure out a way to do it and make an action plan but WHATEVER you do DO NOT compare your SELF, your LIFE, or your SITUATION to anyone else's because it will stifle your growth and potential. All of our lifes' triumphs and defeats are ours and only ours. There is nothing to compare except the person you were yesterday to the person you are today.

In the end we can stay in a space where we blame social media for ALL of our insecurities; if we want to grow, develop, and improve our quality of life we need to realize all of our insecurities, fears, and issues start and end with us.I am sure that if you knew what I or someone else struggled with you would not want to trade places. I believe that is true of whomever you decide to compare yourself to.

This post is not to encourage you to share all of your problems, vices, and hardships via social media. THIS POST is to help you realize that what you see on social media is only PART of the story. You will never know the full story so DO NOT judge yourself, or anyone else, and make decisions based on an incomplete or fairy tale version of someone else's story; it is counter productive.

I truly hope this helped someone. We only have one life so don't waste it feeling insecure about yours.

This woman is absolutely amazing. She makes me want to be a Yogi.

I am inspired by her strength and dedication; clearly this did not happen over night. Her core strength and upper body strength are just unbelievable. Though many women struggle with upper body strength, this, to me, shows that you can be strong and be beautiful. I say that because a lot of women think that if they lift or gain any kind of arm strength they will turn into a woman bodybuilder and that isn't the case.

Two words I would use to describe her head shots are astounding and Herculean.

I absolutely love when she involves her kids and husband in her posts.
THIS IS SO FREAKING CUTE!

I've been following her for a little over a year and am always impressed by her posts. I also love that she does progression posts.

and I love all her pants -- shes so funky with it.

Overall this chick is so freaking cool. She makes yoga sexy and you cant help but be inspired by her.

Fancy Rooftop Lunches: Hotel Forum

So today decided to take myself out to lunch. I ended up at Hotel Forum, located very nicely behind Piazza Venizia and in front of the Collosseo.

This place is just what I needed. Hotel Forum has a rooftop restaurant with a lunch buffet. Open from 12-3 for lunch, 25€ buffet, and absolutely worth it because the food was delicious and the service was wonderful.

The view accompanied by the 28 degree temperature and breeze made my solo lunch date perfect. Mainly because I was under the shade :)

Don't mind my finger lol

I ended up in the elevator with a woman who worked at the hotel from Greece, very pleasent woman. LoL so naturally i told her about my recent travels to Greece and how much i enjoyed it. She told me she loved the view from the restaurant; she felt it was the best in Rome. I disagree on that point but the view was nice. I could see the collosseo in the distance, some ruins (but where cant you see ruins in Rome), and the wedding cake building from my seat.

The wait staff was sooo nice. I thought since it was in a hotel they might be kind of snooty but they weren't. The waitress noticed I was taking pictures and looking around and at the view so she suggested I go up to the terrace where the American Bar was. And that was

another cute spot. She said it was very nice at night and that I should come back around 7 when it opens. I sat up there for a while and enjoyed the sun and the flowers.

Overall this is definitely a place I would recommend and I will definitely be back. Whether you live here or you are on vacation you should definitely make the Hotel Forum rooftop restaurant a place you visit for lunch, diner, or a drink.

So I am starting something new today called INSTAspiration of the month. Instaspiration are those I follow on instagram who are fashion inspirations, plain ol inspirational, or both!

INSTAspiration for July is Dssaaksss my friends!

She is DEFINITELY a fashion inspiration and I absolutely adore looking at her pictures when they come across my instagram timeline.

Everything about this woman is fabulous! I don't think there are enough wonderful adjectives to describe her!

I love her hijab; that is actually my favorite part of her fashion. She stays true to her belief but also to herself. Just because something is a part of you it doesn't have to be boring.

I love that she takes fashion risks. I am not there yet in my outfits; I tend to say with solids and one pattern. I am slowly adding colors and patterns in different ways. She is showing me the way lol.

My other favorite part of her is that she mixes and matches designers. She will wear KK or H&M with Chanel or Balmian or Giuseppe Zanotti (my favorite).

I like her so much because she is so positive and sets out to uplift people; even through Instagram I can see the beauty of her spirit.

Just Fab!

I wonder what she does because I would love to work for or with her so I could see what she wears all the time lol.

First Look: Spring 2013 Fashion Week

Though the 2013 Spring Fashion Week just started I already have favorite looks!

I had a prediction of what was going to come, fashion wise, for the spring. My prediction was flowy and sheer things... BOY! Was I right or what!?! I love anything girly and I love flowy things, so if you're like me Spring 2013 shall be lovely for us!

The Spring 2013 collections so far have been a mix of flowy, sheer, and frilly with many neutrals & floral prints (brought to my attention by my oh so trendy Funky Feminine friend). Eeeeooooo white is a go for spring also! -- I adore white and I think it looks great in any season. I noticed that the Aristocrat theme from 2012-2013 fall/winter collection carried over to spring. I love the Aristocrat look! It is quite fabulous DAAAAAHHLING.

Below are 12 of my favorite looks (and why) so far:

Diane von Furstenberg you have done it again my dear! I can't tell you how much I love this jumpsuit! This has the bright yellow for spring; I love bright colors. You can see the flowy movement on the pant and the frill comes from the belt area. For everyday wearability I would close the neckline but honestly I would wear the jumpsuit as is.

Donna Karan went flowy to the max with this dress; the movement is amazing! I love it most because it is very girly and looks like a tulip :) This dress looks great and did you notice the neutral grey? It almost looks metallic. Give this to me in black or royal blue...or white :) and I would rock this!

I would call this business chic and definitely rock this at the office or to lunch meetings. Juan Carlos Obando kept it frilly and feminine. The neck frill reminds me of and updated and very modern ruff that was worn in the 16th and 17th centuries. He continued the frill at the waist and the knee. I am glad he kept the frill light because with that pattern it could get overbearing quick.

Zuhair Murad!! I love him! A lot of his work is classic, chic, and very feminine-- everything I love! Zuhair went frilly on top and bottom with the peplum and added a grand floral print. Very beautiful and not overpowering at all. Sometimes floral can be too much be he did a fantastic job.

This my friends is from the Armani Primavera collection! eeee! I love this dress so much! She flows like there is no tomorrow! I feel a bit of Aristocrat coming through also! I completely adore this dress and cant wait for someone to invite me to a gala so I can wear it!!!

Oscar De La Renta you are such flirt! This gown is amazing and so marvelous! The architecture and the lines are simple but that is really all this dress needs. I love the statement bracelet! You should either do a statement necklace, as pictured, or a statement earrings. (or that's what I would do lol)

Here we go with the floral, sheer, flirty, and flowy. This Erdem Moralioğlu dress is the epitome of feminine with the lace and flowers. The rest of his collection is just like this super girly! I would never wear this but I love it though :)

I think this dress is first-class fantastic! It is so classy, has clean lines, and fabulous frill. Can you imagine how this Giambattista Valli flows oh so gracefully as she makes it down the runway of life!?!! The rest of his collection has an abundance of structure; pair that with the dainty sheer aspects and you've got a line intended for the high-class bourgeoisie individual. I LOVE IT! Giambattista's spring line is all me... well mostly me lol.

Now this beautiful Elie Saab dress says dignity and royal pedigree, as does every other dress in his collection! I love his collection so much and it speaks to me 9maybe because I believe I am a descendent of royalty... or that I should marry into it) but I digress. His line speaks to the woman who commands attention, isn't afraid to make a statement, and exudes class and elegance in every aspect of her life. Truly amazing! The detail, the floral with the baroque print and the sheer fabric. The way this dress flows you can's help but watch.

When I look at runway looks I tend to drift between reality and daydreams about where I would wear the fabulous outfits. When I am in my reality stage I look for things that I could possible wear to work that are fashionable, interesting, and show my personality. I believe I have found all of those things in this Max Azria bodycon dress. It is very interesting because it has the zipper down the middle, texture, and an interesting pattern. Even though it contours the body the length is acceptable and it has complete coverage. It doesn't really follow any of the trends I listed but those listed aren't the only spring 2013 trends.

This dress is so classy! I love the sheer and the layers in this dress. Having the two colors merge into a 'V' shape help shape the body and I think it would look great on anyone. I would have so much fun moving in this dress! I would move like I was in the Sound of Music or in an old movie from the 50's. (all the women's dresses had dramatic yet dainty movement) That is exactly how this dress looks to me. I cannot stand grey but I definitely love this dress and would wear it without question. I actually like it better cause it looks kind of like silver. Plus I think J. Mendel is great!

I can't wait to see what the rest of Spring Fashion Week holds!

2013 has great things in store for us all!!

Wearable Resume!

So when I make sets on Polyvore I always think of where and when I would where the outfit. I immediately thought this would be the perfect Chicago fall to winter business outfit (just add tights).

I love this outfit! I think it is so cute and so versatile. This can work from morning meetings to power lunches to client dinners. The structure of the coat and pencil skirt give her the organized look and shows that she knows exactly what she wants and how she wants things. The pop of color in the coat and bag shows that she thinks outside the box, which is very important in business now. The shoes say a few things; The heel height puts her on the same level (height wise) as the people she works, which gives her the ability to look them in the eye and show them that she is not afraid to go toe to toe; the laces say that she stays laced up and ready to go (so to speak - because if you stay ready you never have to get ready); lastly the boot/bootie symbolizes that she isn't worried about getting dirty, figuratively speaking, in a lady-like manner of course lol. The earrings say class and that she accepts nothing less than class, elegance, and manners. The Hermes Kelly bag says that she means business. No one woman who does business with an Hermes thinks that money is a game. This woman goes after what she wants and usually gets it so when you come, come correct. All the pieces have detail, which say that detail is important to you and that you pay attention to it. This outfit is simple but it says so much.

To sum up the woman who wears this outfit in three words - She's A Boss.

Moral of the story: Your clothing, and the way it is put together, always says something about you whether you want it to or not. So basically you wear you resume on your body. It could be your personality resume, work resume, or attitude resume. If you want to make a good impression you need to be conscious of your clothing decisions :) Sometimes your clothing can speak louder than your words.

Take Me Shopping!!!!!

A few people have asked me to go shopping with them or take them shopping because they like my sense of style or believe I can help them. It is very flattering to me but I honestly don't do anything extravagant.my fashion sense isn't overly amazing either; mainly because my bank account won't allow it lol BUT AS SOON AS IT DOES...WATCH OUT HUNNY!! Haha I do love fashion though! I just started getting into fashion this year but I think I have always had a good sense of style because of my mom. I was always told not to leave the house looking unkempt. {uncared-for or neglected; disheveled; messy; unkempt clothes; an unkempt lawn.}

So anyway here are my DO'S and DON'T'S to Fashion and Shopping! This is coming from someone who HATES shopping. I like to be in and out; I don't lollygag in stores for 3 hours lol. {if you have any shopping tips tell the people in the comment box}

DO Find Fashion Inspirations!

I think these are so fun! A Fashion Inspiration can be a person, blog, magazine, whatever! They can help you gauge what direction you wan to go in. I have 4 style inspirations; Actress Hayden Panettiere, MUA Olivia Blois Sharpe from Jerseylicious, Divya Katdare the Physicians Assitant from Royal Pains and Style host Jeannie Mai from How Do I Look.

DON'T Be Afraid!

Fashion is all about Hit-and-Miss. I have had a few misses with my outfits but it's all good! Just chalk it up to a learning experience and do better the next time. Fashion is really no big deal :)

DO Make a Fashion Folder. (digital or hard copy)

This is my most favorite! So much fun; I love my fashion folders! A Fashion Folder is something you can refer to and preferably keep with you when you shop. My digital Fashion Folder is pictured below. The digital one you keep in you phone, tablet, or online photo sharing website like Photobucket or Flickr. You need to be able to access it easily when you go shopping. What I do is find something on Instagram, Polyvore, runway photos, etc., screenshot it, and then add it to my Fashion album on my iPad. I also have a hard copy folder for magazine pictures that I put in an actual file cabinet.

DO Have FUN!!!

Don't think fashion is only for the serious because it is not! Don't get me wrong, I am very serious about shoes and I love looking good but I definitely wont let fashion drive me crazy :) I have fun putting together new outfits from clothes that have been in my closet. You should too.

DON'T Reinvent the Wheel

If you see something you like copy the outfit. Don't try to come up with something different unless you want to. Example below: I would copy both of these outfits from head to toe and not have a problem with it! Just Don't copy your friends too much; imitation is flattering but no one likes a minion.

DON'T Break the Bank!

Fashion never gets so serious that you end up filing a chapter 11 lol. BUT SERIOUSLY!

DO Shop For You!

Everything I buy and wear is something I like. I wasn't pressured by friends or by the trends of the season. (if you need to, do what I do and shop by yourself) I am not in any way a trendy person. I have many pieces I can wear over many seasons and still be "in style". I do have a friend who is trendy; it works for her and she works it. Being trendy, I have found FOR ME, is too expensive lol.

Pay attention to your body

This kind of goes with know you. I am 5'1 and have short torso ( the distance between my bottom rib and pelvis is small) I am not deformed or anything lol!! I try to wear things that give me an illusion of a more defined waist. The more you try on and experiment the more you know what looks good and feels good on your body type.

Know you!

You don't literally have to know yourself inside and out but if you know what you like or what you don't like it makes things a little easier. BUT if you don't know either when it comes to you and fashion TRY EVERYTHING!! Then you can decide what you like on you and what you don't.

Be comfortable

Being fashionable doesn't mean you have to give up comfort, wear heels every day, or deck your self out with jewelry. I don't wear anything that I don't feel comfortable in. Your clothes are like your exoskeleton, an extension of you, and you have to feel comfortable. When you feel great you look great and when you look great you feel great lol

Since it is Fashion Week I thought I would pay homage to New York and talk about a set I made on Polyvore.com.

I absolutley love this look! I think it can be worn during spring, summer, or fall and for most any occasion. I would ABSOLUTLEY wear this to a #NYFW fashion show, definitely wear this to work, to lunch or brunch, on a second date or out on the town with my beffle Lorr Torr; Who I am sure would be in black and flip flops but that is okay lol. I could so see myself walking around, Greenwich or SoHo or around wherever that famous toy store is, with this outfit on and Lauren staring at me like "why" lol.

I think it is the perfect outfit; even with the jewelry to transition into a night time look. You wont have to change a thing, only if you want.

As I mentioned in a previous post, my style is Classically Chic and this speaks to me on so many levels. Every aspect of this outfit has distinct and defined lines (the classic); from the blazer lapel and sleeves to the jeans, the shoe and the red lip. When I say class I mean class in the sense of style longevity i.e. the ability to wear something for many seasons or years without it going out of style. The colors bring out the chic; many of us were taught not to wear too many colors when putting together an outfit but that ideology seems to have flown out the window. I think each color compliments the other very nicely. I love the blue and yellow color combination and I paired it with white because I am a "play it safe-er"; but you could definitelty pair this outfit with a patterned shirt. ( I would probably change the jewelry though). The gold jewelry and bronzy shoe positively compliment the yellow Blazer. And if the entire outfit doesnt say enough the red lip undeniably says "I have arrived".

I am truly excited for the future and cannot wait until Ms. Funky Feminine and I are sitting front row at a few of our favorite designers fashion shows and of course "hobnobbing and rubbing elbows" at the after parties. Until then I will continue to do what others wont do now so I can do what others cant later. *publishes post and gets back to GMAT studying*

Favorite 2012 - 2013 Fall & Winter Trends

Fall IS HERE!

Well almost, fashion wise, not weather wise in Houston anyway.

But I wanted to share my favorite 2012 fall trends. My style is Classically Chic. I love anything I can wear over a period of time that can grow with me and never goes out of style (i.e. Timeless and Ageless). Kind of like a Chanel bag. :)

Baroque

One of my favorite periods of artistic style, which is why I absolutely adore this trend! I think it is so cute and very classy. This trend is great because once you put it on you are basically done styling your outfit. The dress or blouse is the outfit and the accessory. You only need a pair of simple earrings and a bracelet OR ring. I would also tone down the shoes but they should still speak.

Winter White

I love white and wear it all year around. I think white is timeless and ageless; it fits into any season. The way the Derek Lam skirt flows is beautiful and I adore the sweater and think the contrast of textures makes the look. I also love the straight lines of J Mendel Outfit. The coat is amazing! I think the fur softens it up and without taking away from the architecture. It looks like it accentuates the bust line without being bulky. The pants are also very straight but they have movement and the high waist adds to the two other elements of class. (fur and straight lines). Both of these looks have drama and it are fabulous.

The Girls Guide to Hunting and Fishing

I think this look is SO CUTE! I am and will always be a city girl but I think the country is so beautiful; I want to own a ranch one day. I dont want to work it though lol I just want to ride the horses and sit outside with my future husband lol. Back to the trend though! I love the fur on the guys jacket! The length on both is great. MK did a great job on making the woman's coat different, interesting, and practical. It kind of reminds me of Pete and Pete (remember that show?). I think the Thankoon dress is fantastic. It has a sweatshirt idea but doesn't look like one at all. Everything is deliberate; the neckline, the tailoring at the waist, and lines of the skirt make it classy, the bigger sleeves and the band on the chest bring the casual. i love this! They both make me want to sit in a cabin in the French Alps.

I like these leather looks because they are not biker chick chic or cat woman tight, the have elements of class and edge that look really cool. These looks seem very wearable and I would definitely add a few pieces to my wardrobe.

A few other trends I ran across. Some I like, some not so much.

The Global Aristocrat - Ooolalaa very cute! I notice a lot of fur and many architectural pieces

Military/ Thoroughly modern military - this is cute as well

Black and Blue - I am not fond of black and blue together but that is whats fun about fashion; some can put together a look and make it work.

The Iron Lady - i dont really understand this look but if you can make it work BY ALL MEANS, do yo.

Jumpsuites - IF YOU DO IT RIGHT. I like jumpsuits but i have yet to find one that works with my body shape. These are tricky but can be beautiful if you pay attention to to your body and how clothes and fabrics fall on your body. You MUST also be comfortable :)

LaLa Vasquez does jumpsuits well

Matrix - also called the leather look but it can go one way or another

Print/reptile print - I like print but I have to watch myself because it can go from cute to OMGosh no! in 5 seconds. Reptile print I am so so on. I tend to like it more on a bag or shoes.Again it is all about knowing what works for you and your body. I think these are cute

I am not fond of the Monochromatic look AT ALL, but done properly it can look phenomenal.

Anything Ox Blood trend I hate.Especially when it is a monochromatic look from head to toe. Hideous. LoL but to each her own.

Hey!

So today I had lunch with my friends at this place called Cafe Moustache, pretty classy and cute restaurant. They have a 3 course lunch special for $15. After that I went to Marshalls to find my mom a Michael Kors purse for Christmas but I couldn't find a cute one so I left.

THEN I WENT TO ARMSTRONG MCCALL. (you can only go in if you are a licensed cosmetologist LIKE ME :) LOL)

This has been on my ToDo list for quite some time. I went to get a straightener but its not a regular flat iron it is THE BEST FLAT IRON you can buy. I saw in the monthly catalog that you get 2 BaByliss flat irons for $129.99! Because it is Christmas you get a deal because usually each straightener is $129.99 plus.

Let me tell you why it is such a FANTASTIC flat iron.

It has a temperature gauge

the Ultra Thin - between 240 and 450 degrees F
The Regular Ionic - between 300 - 450 degrees F.

Fantastic heat conductor
They are both lightweight
The plates are very smooth so it helps reduce straightening time
The plates are titanium which means quality and good conduction of heat.
They are very resistant to corrosion. (e.g. dirt or product you already have in your hair)
You can style your hair with product (like gel or hair spray) and it will straighten smooth and not get gunky.
It comes with a 4 YEAR WARRANTY!

Everyone thinks that the CHI iron is the best but it isn't. The Chi doesn't have a temperature gauge and the temperature you are straightening your hair with is either 400 or 450 degrees F. There is no reason anyone should be putting 400 degree heat on their head. (unless you have extremely course, curly, and thick hair.) If the flat iron. doesn't have a temperature gauge on it then i wouldn't recommend buying it.

OMG! SHOES!

OH MY GOSH!

I absolutely POSITIVELY LOVE SHOES! Like it really doesn't make any sense! A Friend of mine came over a little bit ago and EYE (i use "eye" in all caps in emphasize "i" lol) was talking about shoes for like 2 hours (diamonds may have been 30 minutes of it though).

I was looking at my favorite site to be on when I get bored Jessica Simpson :), and was wondering when I would get the shoes I ordered earlier this week. I ordered the Jessica Simpson DANY shoe! So when I walked my friend out I saw the box that said JESSICASIMPSONCOLLECTION.COM! aaaaahhhhh!!!!!! omg I squealed and attacked the box and hugged it lol! Some may believe my love for shoes is unhealthy lol but I believe it is character building. So anyway I opened the box and lifted the JS tissue paper ( it was like slow motion) and LO & BEHOLD my DANY shoes have made it to me!!!!! The heavens opened up and shined a light on them! And of course I had to put them on and play with them :) *BIG GIRLS TOY* so now I am blogging in my DANY shoes lol with no where to go but I am OH SO VERY content! :) (I will add my pictures later-my phone is dead)

Another shoe designer attacked my shoe lover insides and tugged at my heart strings. Thanks to Chiq.com I was introduced to the shoe designer that totally and completely captures the essence of my personality! TAYLOR REEVE! Her shoes are TO DIE FOR and absolutely amazing! I am so literally ELATED by shoes, heels really, I like Sperrys also, but anyway SHOES ARE AN EXTENSION OF ME & I wouldn't have it any other way.
