If you're scared, say you're scared!

If you're scared say, you're scared! I'm scared! But, I'm going to do it anyway! Sometimes, one can have a fear of following their dreams. The fear of failing. I'm going forward, boldly, with my fear. I discovered that you can use that fear to your advantage and not let it take control of you. When I played college basketball I would get such "butterflies" right before the game. Call it nervous energy, or the fear of messing up resulting in Coach benching me. But, I used those "butterflies" to my advantage and would play a great game, win or lose. And, If I didn't have "butterflies" I would try to make myself get them because I knew I played well off that fear.

Becoming a filmmaker is a different kind of fear! A little bit of the unknown, although I have a several shorts that I've produced and directed under my belt. It wasn't my intention to become a filmmaker. I came out to California to act. Just act. But, the pickings were slim to say the least and I had to become a creator. A creator of my own destiny. I wish I had that mind set when I first journeyed out here. I have it now. That's what matters.

I'm gearing up for my first full length feature. Rashetta's Wedding! RW will be shot under my production companies Stone Archer Productions and CrownSoul Entertainment. Setting up a feature film is equivalent to running a company. There is a lot of work involved and it can be overwhelming. But, staying focused and organized are two main keys to success.

By now most of you have heard about Rashetta's Wedding. We've been talking about it since last year and now we are finally ready to launch our Crowdfunding campaign through Kickstarter beginning March 1st 2012.

Am I scared? Yes, I'm scared. Will I go forward anyway? Yes, I have no choice, that's who I am.

Motivation

Sometimes it's not about focus but motivation. A need to know that the hard work, or just the work you put in to something is going to show some type of rewarding results. Especially, when you are trying to work through adversity, and things just don't seem to be going the way you would like. It's not easy. Will it make you stronger? What is the saying, "If it doesn't kill you it will make you stronger."

You're motivated to get up to go to a nine to five everyday to get that weekly paycheck. But, what's the motivation to get up and get going everyday when you work for yourself and there may or may not be a weekly paycheck. People tell you, "Oh, I could never do that. I admire you for that because I need to know at the end of the day I have a paycheck coming in." Is is admirable or stupidity? Or is it stepping out on faith?

A Tumultous Journey

On my last six mile hike, where I have a lot of time to think and contemplate, I equated the trail with my journey in the entertainment industry. In order to finish the six mile loop I had to tackle steep inclines, rocky uneven terrains, steep and at times narrow down hills and the rocky "narrows" which sometimes is streaming with water. I had to pay close attention to where I step so that I didn't twist my ankle or fall off the side of the hill when the path narrowed and I had to look out for bikers flying down hill. I also had to listen out for snakes that can unexpectedly cross my path. This is similar to my path in the entertainment industry. The climb uphill trying to reach my goal has been very steep and quite breathless. The path has level out at times but the road has been rocky and narrow (few opportunities) with snakes crossing my path. And, when my career has taken a dive and I start running downhill I have to keep my balance to keep from falling hard on my face. When I finally reach the bottom and I think I'm at the finish line I come across another rocky wet area where I have to jump stones in order not to get wet. After clever maneuvers I'm able to make my way across to dry land and back out in the open, with the road before me. I still have a ways to go to get back to my car, but, I'm tired and a little dehydrated. But, I've got to do this! So, I push forward and my walk turns into a jog then to a sprint. I can't give up! I'm almost there! Never give up! Never!

Just do It!

I know it's easier to say it than to do it. Sometimes we get in our own way of making our dreams come true. Doubting ourselves... We have to believe in ourselves even when others don't. We need to surround ourselves with positive like minded people. Negativity can hold you back. And, you have to watch your "friends" I've often asked myself, "Are you afraid of success?' And, the answer is always no. Then why am I not moving forward. No one is going to knock on my door saying, "Hello, I heard you were looking to achieve this. Here it is." You want it you've got to go and get it. Whatever that it is. Follow your dream. I'm following mine. I refuse to go through like thinking "what if." It may not be easy but it's better than the alternative of being stuck in a job that you hate and complaining about it all the time. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!

Making Rashetta's Wedding

This past Friday I launched my new website for my new project Rashetta's Wedding. I set up a twitter account for the movie and for myself. I also started a face book page for RW (please "like" it) And, in a couple of weeks we will launch our crowd funding campaign through Kickstarter. Stay tuned.

We will also allow our supporters to follow us as we make RW...from pre-pre-production until we get it on the big screen.

It's one thing being an actress pounding the pavement looking for work and it's another creating the work and pounding the pavement looking for financing. But, it's so much more rewarding doing the latter... than sitting around waiting for the telephone to ring to get a one liner. A producer once told me my phone would be ringing off the hook after I finished a film that I had did for him. I would still be waiting for that phone to ring if I had not decided to take control of my own career. It's hard work being a producer and it's even harder being a woman... but I wouldn't change a thing.

Jump Starting the New You...

With the New Year beginning this is an opportunity for us to get it together, whatever that might be. I'm starting this New Year off with my new production company Stone Archer with my running partner S.K. Dayne. I began development on our first project, "Discovery Ridge" the fall of 2010 and will start pre-production January 2011. Acting is my first love, but I love producing. It's like putting the pieces of the puzzle together, with the hardest piece to find is the money. But, just like any puzzle that I do, I put the edges together first then I fill in the rest, including the money. Meaning, do not let that stop you.
