Who was the Team of the Decade
Ranking 2000-2009

Over the past year debate has surrounded who was the best team of the past decade. With two great dynasties, Lethal's Brisbane Lions from 01'-03' compared to the mighty Cats from Geelong (07' and 09'). This article ranks all 16 AFL sides over the past decade 2000-2009.

I awarded the following:
GF Winner - 25 Points
GF Loser - 15 Points
Preliminary - 5 Points
Semi Final - 3 Ponts
Elimination - 1 Point

Also I gave bonus points to teams that finished in the top 4 during the Home and Away season. Keeping the sliding scale 1st - 16 points - 16th - 1 point. I awarded 1st - 4 Bonus Points (BP), 2nd - 3BP, 3rd - 2BP, 4th - 1BP.

The reason of undertaking this is to discover who was the most dominant team of the decade.

After these adjustments I came up with the following ladder.

With the long term injury to Nick Riewoldt what are our options for AFL Dream Team and SuperCoach.

- Holding Riewoldt will save you a trade, however if you don't have adequate bench cover you could be caught losing vital points for a while.

- Look at trading to players around a similar price. Didak and Stevie J are both likely to decrease in value. It could be the time to jump on underpriced premiums, or direct swap to O'Keefe and Jonathan Brown who have started the season in HOT form.

- Downgrading to a player such as Ballentyne (Fremantle) will provide you with around an extra $200k which could be vital to upgrade that under-performing Ruckman, Midfielder or Defender.

My advice if you missed the boat on Brown or Ryan O'Keefe make the switch NOW. Don't be affraid to admit you missed the boat originally and make the trade. Riewoldts injury is long term and even on return it is questionable whether he will be at his usual level.

AFL is Fantasy

With the AFL season just around the corner, the hopes and dreams of all 16 sides are high. As a grueling pre-season comes to an end the traditional cliques have been bandied around. Players have bulked up, broken personal bests and reached new levels of fitness.

For the majority, our childhood dream of playing AFL has become a fantasy. We live vicariously through the stars of the game. The magic of Cyril Rioli, the toughness of Max Rooke, the high flying marks of Brett Burton.

In recent years a cultural change in the way we watch AFL has occurred. While we love our team with a staunch passion, old rivalries have softened. Collingwood supporters have begun to follow Essendon players. What would Eddie say? Has hell in fact frozen over? This is the phenomenon that has gripped the nation; this is Fantasy football.

Up until the start of the new season I will look at how to construct a winning Dream Team, the best structure for your initial squad and who to select.

Firstly I’ll look at whom I rate as the top 4 underpriced players in this year AFL Dream Team competition. These are the players who will increase their averages and price in 2010.
Nick Suban – Fremantle – Defender
Price $240,900
Suban starred for Fremantle in his debut season playing all 22 H&A games in 2009. Expect greater playing time through the Middle and stints on the Half Back Flank. At $240,900 he is reasonably priced. In 09 Suban averaged 55 PPG* however from round 16-22 he averaged 67 PPG.
Callan Ward – Western Bulldogs – Midfielder
Price $309,200
Playing 19 games at an average of 74.2 PPG Ward began to show his class towards the latter stages of the season averaging 82.2PPG from Round 18-22 and 91PPG in the final two rounds. The Whitten Oval faithful have great expectations of Ward in 2010 as they look to break their premiership drought.
Matther Kreuzer – Carlton – Ruck
Price $330,500
At only 20 Humphrey is starting to look the real deal. Leading the Carlton rucks for the majority of 2009 Kreuzer averaged a respectable 75PPG, however it was his last four games where he averaged 83.75 PPG that signals he is about to take the next step and become a premium ball winner around the ground.
Patrick Dangerfield – Adelaide – Forward
Price $232,000
In his first full season with the Crows in 2009 after staying home in 2008 to complete his Year 12 studies, Dangerfield showed he has immense courage and commitment. However he only managed to average 53 PPG as he spent most of the season up forward or riding the pine in 2009. However with his first uninterrupted Pre-Season, Dangerfield is expected to spend more time in the middle and could prove to be one of the bargains of the 2010 Dream Team season.

Derby Weekend

Europe celebrated Derby day with wins for Liverpool winning the merseyside derby 2-0 against a more spirited Everton. Chelsea defeated Arsenal 3-0 courtesy of two top draw pearlers from Drogba and an Arsenal own goal in the all London clash. However the most highly anticipated clash of the day was El Classico with a 10 man Barcelona downing Real Madrid 1-0.

In what can only be described as an un-Barca like performance, the home side desperate defending lead by captain Puyol saved Barca from a lackluster Madrid. Ronaldo had the best chance of the first half with a clear shot directed straight at the keeper. After the Half Guardiola brought on Zlatan Ibrahimović who scored a remarkable volley from a strong cross from the right flank.

After the game Guardiola said: "To be four behind would make things much more difficult.

"We have rediscovered the spirit of last year against a team who like to have the ball and dominate play. Real played well but we were never out of the game."

The first real surprise came at Pick 11 with Melbourne choosing Gysbert a tall midfielder from the Eastern Ranges (Vic). The Biggest surprise however was the Western Bulldogs picking relatively unknown Christian Howard from Glenelg (SA).

Luke Ball also was granted his wish, sliding to Pick 30 - Collingwood, after months realising his dream of playing for the Pies.

Newsionary Final AFL Phantom Draft 2009

Tom Scully has been touted at the Number 1 pick for almost the entire season. His never say die attitude has made him impossible to resist. Trengove however has come via a different rout. After rejecting an offer to play state football with SA in 2008 to attend a cricket trip in the UK, Trengove's position within the AFL system was still undecided. However strong performances in the National Carnival where he lead SA to 2nd place, and strong BOG performances in the latter stages of the SANFL season with his club side Sturt, have lead many to tout him on par with Scully.

Below these two are a host of players with considerable potential. Yes, 2009 will be remembered as the first compromised draft with the drafting age being lifted 4 months making eligible players 18. However don't under estimate the class of 09. Time will reveal its true potential.

Tom is a fantastic player who should fill out once he joins an AFL club. His vision is 2nd to non and will be selected first. He runs like Chris Judd. Hard, uncompromising and potential future leader of the Demons. With this quality being injected into the Demons side, success is just around the corner.

Draft Range:1-3
I have chosen Jack at pick two even though I believe he is the best player in this draft. His performances against Men in the SANFL in the latter stages were amazing. Some have stated his performances were the best by any junior since Buckley. Huge raps when you consider the calibre of player too come from SA in that time. Jack leads by example and will not be overlooked by the Dees.

DOB: 26/06/91, Height: 187cm, Weight: 86kg
Draft Range:2-4
It appears Martin is penciled in at pick three. Whether or not he is the 3rd best player is debatable, however he will be one first round pick Richmond should get right.

Pick 4 – Fremantle – Anthony Morabito
DOB: 29/10/91, Height: 190cm, Weight: 90kg
Draft Range:3-7
People compare him to Adam Goodes and if Morabito can be half as good, Fremantle will have secured a fantastic player. Being local tips the ledger, Morabito is staying in WA with Fremantle.

DOB: 30/06/91, Height: 186cm, Weight: 84kg
Hard determined Football who hates getting beaten 1-on-1. His 5-goal haul late in the season highlights his ability both in the middle and pinch-hitting up forward.

Pick 6 – Sydney - Gary Rohan
DOB: 07/06/91, Height: 186cm, Weight: 79kg

Draft Range:5-13
Many have Rohan pushing top 5 I am of the belief he could fall anywhere from 5 -16. He is explosive and proved at the draft camp he has one of the most reliable kicks out of this years batch of draftees.

Pick 7 – West Coast – Brad Sheppard – 187cm 78kg
Draft Range:4-17
Sheppard is the player that can play multiple roles. He is a strong HBF/Midfielder who can break lines and set up many plays. Not only is he tough, he is a smart user. Has been touted as a possible first round for some time, but has risen to Pick 7 as he will not be available by the time the Eagles have their next selection.

Draft Range:4-12
Butcher is an interesting choice. Poor goal kicking has lead many recruiters having question whether Butcher will make a good forward. My opinion is that Goal Kicking is fixable, He has Strong hands and is good on a lead. Could finally have a long term replacement for Tredrea.

Pick 9 – Port Adelaide – Andrew Moore – 188cm/81kg
Draft Range:15-26
Moore is a versitile player who has been likened to Ryan O'Keefe and Andy Otten. I don’t see any major issues with his play and would be handy anywhere on the ground. He has the ability to play in the midfield as should not be overlooked by the Dons.

Pick 10 – Essendon - Jake Melksham – 182cm/70kg
Draft Range:8-17
Melksham showed his potential in the TAC Grand Final with a BOG performance. Melksham provides inside and outside ability. Compliments a young developing midfield.

Draft Range:13-30's
By all reports impressed a few clubs in interviews. Could be a Bolter at Adelaide (13) or Sydney (14) Very intelligent individual who should fill out and become a good defender/midfielder.

Draft Range:8-17
Talia is an interesting proposition. For some reason many have pigeonholed him as a defender. I see Talia as a KPP who will most likely play forward. He has the athleticism to become Riewoldt type. Talia is one of the best available KPP.

Draft Range:7-23
The WA lad is a bolter. Some players are just late developers and Black appears to have come seriously into consideration by many. He is a KPP/Tall Midfielder.

Draft Range:10-17
He wins the contested ball and has tremendous work rate. To me he appears the ideal fit. Can be seen as a long tern replacement for Kirk

Draft Range:7-22
Jetta is an explosive wingman who has the ability to split a team in half with his skill. Gives the Dogs run and will compliment its strong inside players with outside run.

Pick 16 – Port Adelaide – Kane Lucas – 188cm/79kg
Draft Range:4-16
Lucas is a quality player who can play a variety of positions; Confident individual.

Pick 17 - Geelong – Callum Bartlett – 179cm/75kg

Draft Range 13 - 33
Bartlett without injuries would be touted top 10. He is Quick, Agile and can break lines with precise kicking or with dashing runs. His time rehabilitating with the Cats would have shown them his immense work ethic and character. The Cats have a history of Drafting injured stars (Selwood) and should not let Bartlett a Geelong local slide any further.

Pick 18 – Melbourne – Jake Carlisle – 197cm/85kg
Draft Range:11-22
After going small with its first pick I feel Richmond will look tall with its second pick. Carlise will give Richmond a commanding target up forward to support Riewoldt in the future.

Pick 19 – Richmond – Nathan Vardy – 198/92kg
Draft Range:18-34
Dominated games in the TAC Cup and a Ruckman is required. Jamar is servicable, Meesen has potential. Tapscott is also a possibility at Pick 18.

Pick 20 – Fremantle – Nat Fyfe
DOB: 18/09/91, Height: 186cm, Weight: 73kg
Fyfe is a dynamic forward who has been likened to Stevie Johnson. Kicked 6 goals late in the season that should see him go within the first 2 rounds.

Pick 21 – North Melbourne – Luke Tapscott – 180cm/86kg
Draft Range:8-22
Tapscott is a slider who many believe could go to Port with pick 16. He has a booming leg and will be a very solid player the only reason I feel he will slide is because it appears he does not have as much development as others around him. This is your classic Daniel Rich scenario.

Pick 22 – West Coast – Ryan Bastinac – 183cm/74kg
Draft Range:16-28
Bastinac is an elite runner. He provides West Coast with a quality midfield option in the future. Arguably the best kick in the Draft.

Pick 23 – West Coast - Trent Dennis-Lane
DOB: 30/08/88, Height: 182cm, Weight: 74kg
Dennis-Lane is a bolter however if the Eagles are to select him they must go now as they have no remaining picks after 23. He is a small forward who kicked 57 goals in the WAFL this season. Ideal replacement for Lecras.

Pick 24 – Essendon - Jordon Gysberts – 188cm/83kg
Draft Range:16-33
Gysberts is a tall midfielder who is quite a good tackler. Already quite solid and could be AFL ready straight up.

Pick 25 – North Melbourne - Allen Christensen
DOB: 19/05/91, Height: 176cm, Weight: 75kg
Christensen is a small hard nosed midfielder with an acute sight for goal. He can win contested ball and averaged 26 touches at the National Carnival.

Pick 26 – Essendon – Mitch Duncan – 188cm/81kg

Draft Range - 13 - 29
Duncan is a hard runner with leadership qualities and can play multiple roles. While there are higher touted players remaining, Duncan provides a difference that others can't bring. At 188cm he is very good at ground for his size and very strong overhead.

Pick 27 – Brisbance - Daniel Menzel
DOB: 13/09/91, Height: 185cm, Weight: 77kg
Great effiventcy by Foot and ability to play multiple roles will see Menzel go here.

Pick 28 – Geelong – Joseph Dare
DOB: 17/10/92, Height: 188cm, Weight: 81kg
Versatile player who is seen as the ideal long term replacement for Milburn.

Pick 29 – Adelaide - Jack Gunston
DOB: 16/10/91, Height: 191cm, Weight: 74kg
Versatile KPP who has been heavily linked with the Crows and North. Strong over head.

Pick 30 – Collingwood – Luke Ball

Colyer has explosive speed and solid intensity at the ball. Touted by many as a top 20 pick he adds another dimension at the Dons evolving midfield.

Gawn is difficult to place as teams needing ruckman do not have selections available. Melbourne are said to be Hot on this kid.

Troy Taylor – 189cm/77kg
Draft Range:16-36
Taylor is a difficult player to position. Off field issues aside he is one of the more skillful players in this draft. At 189cm he is not you typical KPP and may develop into a Daniel Motlop/ Michael O’Louglin type forward.

Queensland lad who rejected an offer to play with GC17. He is a contested ball winner.

Pick 38 - Sydney - Sam Reid – 192cm/84kg
Draft Range:Mid 20's-Late
Good vertical leap and Athleticism. Another I strongly considered was Dylan Grimes who at 192/81kg is more a defensive player then his brother and would be more inclined to follow a set defensive role within the team. By all reports his interviews were impressive at draft camp. I see this as a real toss up between Reid, Grimes and possibly Craig as a KPP.

DOB: 18/04/91, Height: 195cm Weight: 92kg
Played in the Ruck at the National Carnival, possesses high vertical leap and could be formed into a gorilla defender.

Draft Range:16-37
Panos is a tall forward with solid skill. If Port Adelaide had retained pick 24 I think he would have been long gone. I have had Matthew Panos (SA) penciled in for this selection for a month and it may still eventuate that way.

Sudanese immigrant who possesses amazing physical attributes. Still learning the game but could develop into a genuine KPF.

Strong overhead can play multiple roles including half back or forward pocket.

Pick 43 - Carlton - Matthew Dea

Comes from a basketball background, Dea has tremendous vertical leap.

Fisher is a hard back pocket/onballer who appears AFL ready. He possesses good pace and a decent kick.

Majak Daw - Western Jets (Vic) 193cm/84kg
Daw is new to the game after migrating with his family from Sudan. He possesses magnificent athletic ability and can play forward or wing. He will need to increase his aerobic capacity if this is to occur, however being in an AFL system would only benefit Majak.

Alex Stopp - Norwood (SA) 192cm/87kg (19yo)
Stopp is a player who was predicted to be at least rookie listed last season. He has outstanding endurance as shown in the state screening beep test and posses solid skills. He is an overage player who could command a late selection or rookie position. Well worth a punt.

Tom is a fantastic player who should fill out once he joins an AFL club. His vision is 2nd to non and will be selected first.

I have chosen Jack at pick two even though I believe he is the best player in this draft. His performances against Men in the SANFL in the latter stages were amazing.

It appears Martin is penciled in at pick three. Whether or not he is the 3rd best player is debatable, however he will be one first round pick Richmond should get right.

People compare him to Adam Goodes and if Morobito can be half, as good Fremantle will have secured a fantastic player. Being local tips the ledger in Morobito staying in WA with Fremantle.

Some have questioned whether he is the ideal player for North. My opinion is he will add to an ominous developing midfield lead by Swallow, Zielbell and Anthony. His 5-goal haul late in the season highlights his ability both in the middle and pinch-hitting up forward.

Many have Rohan pushing top 5 I am of the belief he could fall anywhere from 5 -16. He is explosive and proved at the draft camp he has one of the most reliable kicks out of this years batch of draftees. Adds to Veszpremi.

Pick 7 – West Coast – Lewis Jetta – 178cm/72kg
Everything being said points towards the Eagles who appear desperate to land the over age player in Jetta who would unlikely slide to their second round pick (22) Jetta is an explosive wingman who has the ability to split a team in half with his skill.

Draft Range:4-12
Butcher is an interesting choice. Poor goal kicking has lead many recruiters having question whether Butcher will make a good forward. My opinion is that Goal Kicking is fixable, He has Strong hands and is good on a lead. Could finally have a long term replacement for Tredrea.

Sheppard is the player Port requires. He is a strong HBF/Midfielder who can break lines and set up many plays. Not only is he tough, he is a smart user.

Draft Range:10-17
He wins the contested ball and has tremendous work rate. To me he appears the idea fit for the Bombers.

Talia is an interesting proposition. For some reason many have pigeonholed him as a defender. I see Talia as a KPP who will most likely play forward. He has the athleticism to become Riewoldt type. Talia is one of the best available KPP.

The WA lad is a bolter. Some players are just late developers and Black appears to have come seriously into consideration by many. He is a KPP/Tall Midfielder who I believe will likely play a high half forward role at first at the Blues.

Pick 13 – Adelaide – Callum Bartlett – 179cm/75kg
Draft Range 13 - 33
Bartlett without injuries would be touted top 10. He is Quick, Agile and can break lines with precise kicking or with dashing runs. I personally rate him as a first round choice. Told by someone who should know he will go "pretty high. To me he's the one mid after the first four who has something really dynamic about him."

Draft Range:4-15
Lucas is a quality player who can play a variety of positions. Very impressive player.

Moore is Very Versitile player who has been likened to Ryan O'Keefe and Andy Otten. I don’t see any major issues with his play and would be handy anywhere on the ground.

Pick 16 – Port Adelaide - Jake Melksham – 182cm/70kg
Draft Range:8-17
Melksham showed his potential in the TAC Grand Final with a BOG performance. Melksham provides inside and outside ability.

Pick 17 - Geelong – Mitch Duncan – 188cm/81kg
Draft Range - 13 - 23
Duncan is a surprise to go this high however I feel he is solid fit. He is a hard runner with leadership qualities and can play multiple roles. While there are higher touted players remaining, Duncan provides a difference that others can't bring. At 188cm he is very good at ground for his size and very strong overhead.

Pick 18 - Melbourne – Luke Tapscott – 180cm/86kg
Tapscott is a slider who many believe could go to Port with pick 8 or 9. He has a booming leg and will be a very solid player the only reason I feel he will slide is because it appears he does not have as much development as others around him. This is your classic Daniel Rich scenario.

After going small with its first pick I feel Richmond will look tall with its second pick. Carlise will give Richmond a commanding target up forward.

Colyer has explosive speed and solid intensity at the ball. Is a WA product who I believe would suit West Coasts list.

Pick 23 – West Coast - Ryan Bastinac – 183cm/74kg
Bastinac is an elite runner. A player West Coast would feel confortable could cover the large Subiaco ground. Clean user on both sides that helps in and outside packs. Jordon Gysberts is another player who may go here.

Pick 24 – Essendon - Allen Christensen – 176cm/75kg
Very clever player with good goal scence. Can play through the middle and win the hard ball. One of my favourites could push the top 20.

Pick 25 – North Melbourne - Matthew Panos – 192cm/85kg

I think it was stated recently that the marketing alone a player like Daw could bring to a club would be huge. However Daw may be too great a risk to pass up with no selection until pick 37.

Pick 26 – Essendon – Alex Carey – 181cm/76kg
Played a full season of reserves at Glenelg. Is a smart decision maker, solid in a contest.

Pick 27 – Brisbance - Josh Thomas – 178cm/70kg
Draft Range:24-45
Can win contested ball, was offered a contract at GC17, however rejected it in favour of playing AFL in 2010.

Pick 28 – Geelong – James Craig – 195cm/91kg
James Craig (SA) would be ideal, not as a Ruckman but as a long-term replacement down back. He has the mobitliy to become a gorilla Full back or Center Half Back.

Pick 29 – Adelaide- Jasper MacMillan-Pittard 185cm/72kg
Draft Range:13-30's
By all reports impressed a few clubs in interviews. Could be a Bolter at Adelaide (13) or Sydney (14) Very intelligent individual who should fill out and become a good defender/midfielder.

Fisher is a hard at it defender/midfilder. Also a possibility Tassie Ryan Harwood, who tested exceptionally well or Mitch Goldy who is recovering from an ACL

Round 3
Pick 34 – Melbourne – Nathan Vardy – 198/92kg
Dominated games in the TAC Cup and a Ruckman is required. Jamar is servicable, Meesen has potential

Channel Nine has bid for the rights to broadcast motoring franchise Top Gear by BBC Worldwide hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May

Top Gear has lead SBS line-up over the past few years regularly topping one milion viewers

Warne has been touted to host 6 episodes of the Australian show, if Nine acquire the rights.

Webber Claims Victory but Button Wins Crown

In an Aussie clean sweep of the major motor sport events this weekend following Casey Stoners victory in the 500cc Moterbikes, Australian Mark Webber has claimed his second Formula 1 victory winning the Brazil GP.

The win guarantees Webber at least 4th place in the Title race - His highest since joining the category. However the biggest celebration was left for Brit Jenson Button who became the 10th Brit and second in consecutive years, to lift the Formula 1 Drivers Championship.

Button, exstatic after the race remarked via his radio: “We are the champions my friends!”

And afterwards he could not stop himself. “It’s great to be sat here as the world champion, and personally I feel that I deserve it. I was the best over 16 races and that’s what world champions are. I am it. I am a world champion! And I’m gonna keep saying it all night!”

Gold Punt on Hunt

Karmichael Hunt has agreed terms to play with a French rugby union side for six months.
Hunt will return to Australia in May to start his AFL career with the newly formed Gold Coast side, entering the competition in 2011.

"I am really looking forward to the experience of playing and living overseas. The cultural side of things will be fantastic and the challenge of elite rugby is exciting," Hunt said in a statement.

One wonders why GC17 would permit Hunt to play in France. Time will tell whether Gold Coasts punt allowing Karmichael to play in France will be beneficial.
In Three calendar years, Hunt will have player 3 separate sports professionally (Rugby Union, Rugby League and AFL.)

AFL Trade Period

The annual AFL trade period has now officially closed, with a host of star players finding new clubs.

The biggest news of the day was Carlton star and Coleman Medalist Brendan Fevola finding his way North to play with the Lions in exchange for you Victorian Lachlan Henderson and draft selection 12.

Fevola kicked 575 goals from 187 games for the club and leaves with know animosity towards the club, understanding his actions placed himself and the club in the difficult predicament.

“It was absolutely disgusting, my behaviour. I’ve been in trouble a bit over the time and you never really see what’s happened, and to watch those tapes of the Footy Show you just look at it and think ‘I don’t want to be that person’ and you don’t want to be back there again and it was quite embarrassing," he said

The former Blue admitted he has placed his former club in a difficult situation and hoped to learn from the experiance.

“Hopefully I have left the wild times behind now,” he said.

“I’m 28 now and I’ve got to grow up a little bit and hopefully this change brings that.”

“Obviously I had too much to drink and I don’t think I missed too many people that night. I’ve apologised to the AFL, to the club, to my supporters, to the players, to other media that were there and I want to express my deep sorriness again."

In over trade news Port Adelaide star Shaun Burgoyne was granted his wish, moving to Hawthorn in a complicated 4 way trade, that saw Hawk Mark Williams move to Essendon and Bomber defender Jay Nash make the switch back to his native state - South Australia.

Port Adelaide now has three picks in the first round of November’s NAB AFL Draft – No.8, 9 and 16 – which Rohde said was a "terrific position".

he added, "We wish Shaun all the best at Hawthorn."

The Western Bullgogs finally have a key target in attack after acquiring disgruntled Swan Barry Hall on a 2 year deal.

Hall stated - "I guess there's always going to be question marks, and I'm certainly not going to shy away from that. I'm going to do my very best to repay the Bulldogs for showing faith in me.

"I can't promise anything. I'm not going to beat around the bush or anything like that, but I think I can get on top of it.

"It can end pretty badly if it does happen, and I'm very aware of that."

Overall the annual AFL trade period was up this year with 23 players finding new homes in comparison to just 7 in 2008.

Adelaide young star midfielder Bernie Vince has become the first debutant player under Coach Neil Craig's tutelage to wear the coveted Yellow Jacket and be awarded the Malcolm Blight Medal, displacing the old guard who had dominated this award over the past decade.

Vince who celebrates his 24th birthday today won the award by 2 votes from Forward and leading Goal Kicker Jason Porplyzia.

The Yellow Jacket tops of a fantastic year of Vince whose rise to prominence in the Adelaide midfield lead the club to a 5th straight finals campaign under Neil Craig.

In further developments at West Lakes the club announced star Forward/Ruckman Kurt Tippett had agreed to a new 3 year deal with the club, keeping GC17 looking for a new star recruit to lead their franchise. Also announced was the resigning of Adelaide's 4 veterans Burton, Mcleod, Edwards and the captain Goodwin along with Trent Hentschel on new 1 years deals, Brent Reilly will be extending his stay at the Adelaide Football Club after signing a 2 year extension.

The AFL season officially closed on the weekend with Geelong defeating St. Kilda by 12 points in the AFL Grand Final. However still to be decided were Goal and Mark of the Season. Eventual winners of this award were Adelaide Crow Brett Burton for his fantastic high leap against the Blues in Round 22. Hawthorns Cyril Rioli picked up Goal of the year for his fantastic smother, weave and receive against the Tigers.
