float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CpX0InX0ORk/TtvriXGzH4I/AAAAAAAADb4/KdvPMP766J0/s1600/Canyet-logo-g.JPG" /></a>El buitre leonado (Gyps fulvus) es una especie reproductora en la Península Ibérica, cuya distribución alcanza la mayor parte de las grandes cadenas montañosas y los barrancos horadados por los ríos que atraviesan las mesetas centrales.Durante el siglo XX, y como consecuencia de la intervención humana a través de intensas campañas de envenenamiento, se provoca una disminución poblacional importante, situando al buitre leonado al borde de la extinción en muchas áreas y en otras, eliminándolo por completo. <br /> <br /> A partir de la década de los 80, a través de entidades no gubernamentales, se ponen en marcha proyectos de recuperación de la especie, apoyados por las primeras normas legislativas que protegen estas aves. Se trata, por lo general, de proyectos vinculados a la creación de muladares, programas de sensibilización social y protección del hábitat de estas especies. Todo ello ha permitido que las poblaciones de aves carroñeras se hayan recuperado de forma notable en gran parte de su área de distribución, asegurando su supervivencia y permitiendo que estas especies carroñeras cumplan con eficacia su importante papel ecológico de estabilizadores de la calidad ambiental de los territorios. <br /> <br /> El domingo 13 de noviembre, pudimos comprobar de primera mano, junto a amigos y amantes de las aves, la labor que realizan algunas de estas entidades no gubernamentales, a través de proyectos como el Projecte Canyet en Alcoi. Nos dieron la oportunidad de asistir a una jornada de marcaje de buitres leonados, permitiéndonos conocer de cerca estas impresionantes aves carroñeras. <br /> <br /> El marcaje tuvo lugar empleando anillas metálicas del ministerio, anilla de tres dígitos de PVC y marcas alares cuyos números coinciden con los de las anillas de PCV. Cada 10 individuos, irán marcados de un color, siempre &nbsp;grupos, nunca individuos demasiado alejados unos de otros. Al final, tan solo deberemos contar los colores utilizados y multiplicar por 10.
