June 8th: Deputy High Commissioner of Australia Mr. Tim Bolotnikoff visited HOPE's Main Hospital and HOPE Medical Center in Harbang, Chakaria.

Mr. Bolotnikoff expressed satisfaction at our work and pledged to continue support through another grant in 2012. HOPE Foundation received Australian HC grant in 2008 and 2010 .

Village Nurse Project

A grant in the amount of 5,000 USD has been approved by Virginia Gildersleeve International Fund to supplement our existing Village Nurse Program (8 months course) that began January 2011. It is one of 30 grants from around the world approved at the 9 April Annual Board Meeting of the Fund.

A grant has been approved by Embassy of Japan,Bangladesh to build a Training Center in Hope Foundation's main hospital( Cox's Bazar Hospital for Women and Children)

The training center will be completed this year and it will be used for capacity building locally by offering variety of healthcare training programs to the locals, also this center will be used for tele-medicine and distant learning.

Badrul Alam - A former school teacher came to Cox’s Bazar for change. One of the village doctors of his area told him to go to Cox’s Bazar for change to regain his health. He came on Oct. 22, 2009, and visited some of the tourist places and spent two days walking on the beach, looking at the scenic beauties of Cox’s Bazar. He went to Inani, one of the scenic areas of Cox’s Bazar, and had his lunch at a nearby hotel. After lunch, he felt stomach trouble and was very uneasy. On the way back he got down from the bus and visited a mosque for his natural call. He began vomiting and experiencing diarrhea at the same time, which led him to dehydration. Very quickly his condition became so serious that he became unconscious and he did not know where he was and nobody even knew his identity. On the 25th one the rickshaw puller left him in front of the Cox’s Bazar Ma-O-Shihsu Hospital gate. A security guard reported the issue to the hospital authorities and he was taken to the hospital for treatment. Three days of hard and continuous service he began to regain his sense and was able to give his address. His name is Mr. Badrul Alam S/O Late Kazi Golam Mohbub, village- Shonapara of 6 no Mohummodpur Union, Upazila Panchbibi, Joypurhat district. He had no money to pay for his medicine or other services. The Hospital authorities provided his cost from the zakat fund. About Tk.4800 was incurred for his treatment. After recieving good treatment from the hospital, he was able to leave and reunite with his family once again. Humanity was served, all because of the quick response of the hospital guard, and all the doctors and supporting staff at Cox's Bazar Hospital, performing their jobs well.

May 23 - May 28: Visit by Matt MacCalla, International Program Office of Direct Relief International. Mr. MacCalla visited Bangladesh to meet with partners and went to see several Hope Health Centers. In his short visit he assessed the needs of the community and he assured the clinic managers of continued support from his organization DRI. This is his second visit to Hope projects in Bangladesh and Mr. MacCalla expressed satisfaction at the activities and progress of Hope Foundation.

March 20, 2009 - In Shariatpur, Monwara Rashid Hope Medical Center is opened with a matching grant from Direct Relief International, California, USA. This clinic is sponsored by Abul Haseb Duke a native of Shariatpur who currently lives in Miami, Florida with his family. March 27, 2009 - Haji Halima Begum Hope Medical Center is opened in South Sadar, Comilla. This is the 8th Hope Medical Center and is sponsored by Abdul Hai Babul, a native of Comilla, who currently lives in Miami, Florida with his family. The Chief Guest of the opening ceremony was Ms. Valerie Taylor, a renowned philanthropist and Founder of CRP, Bangladesh.

Dhaka Office Inaugural Ceremony of Hope Foundation for Women and Children of Bangladesh held in Uttara, Dhaka on 2nd January, 2009. Professor M.A Bari, Country Director of Hope Foundation for Women and Children of Bangladesh presided over the program. Mr. Syed Hasan, Advisor of Hope Foundation for Women and Children of Bangladesh USA was present as chief guest and opened the new office. Principal (Ret.) Hafizur Rhaman, Mr. Mozammel Hossain Haolader (Sentu), Mr. M.N.A Katebi, Chief Conservative of Forest Department (Retd.), Mr. Akter Hossain, UP Chairman of Shilkop Union of Banskhali took part as special guest on the occasion. About 30 honorable guests including doctors, journalist and NGO personnel were present on the occasion and welcomed the initiatives of Hope Foundation. All those present encouraged the expansion of Hope Foundation’s work in providing healthcare to the poor and needy, and urged the Foundation to aim for future success.

The program started with reciting from the Holy Quran. Mr. MA Bari in his welcoming speech greeted the guests and informed the participants about the background of Hope Foundation and its’ present activities. He said that Hope Foundation services to the poor women and children in Cox’s Bazar started in 1999. Cox’s Bazar Hospital for Women and Children became a hospital in 2005, from it health services are being provided to the poorest people in the community from the remote area of the district. Hope Foundation now has also formed 6 clinics at community level which are at most remote area where government services are almost absent.

Mr. Bari also requested everybody to visit the projects and cooperate with the organization so that it can spread out the health services to the poor people.

Mr. Katebi, in his speech, declared that Hope Foundation is serving many people who have never received health services from professional doctors in their lifetime. He said that Hope Foundation is doing a great job in the most vulnerable area of the country. During his speech he was very emotional and gave thanks to everyone for this novel initiative. Mr. Katebi also requested every body to come forward to serve humanity.

Mr. Mozammel Hossain Sentu said that it is an opportunity for the social workers of the community to come forward and mentioned that the philanthropic efforts like Hope Foundation can be used to encourage others to serve the poor also. He also said that in, Hope has initiated to start a clinic which is due to open and will soon provide health service to the poor

Jamal Uddin of Manobadhikar Sagbadik Forum appreciated Hope Foundation’s work and committed to in-corporate it in a health rights forum and will assist in disseminating its information at the national level.

Chief guest Mr. Hasan said, “All thanks goes to Dr. Mahmud, he has taken this novel initiative and some of Bangladeshi nationals are now assisting him. It now has registration with NGO bureau and we can expand our work in other places of Bangladesh.” He also requested everyone to support this great work and hoped that within a short time Hope Foundation will be able to do much more good projects. At the end Mr. Imtiaz Uddin Ahmed, Country Program Coordinator, gave the vote of thanks to all participants and showed gratefulness to Mr. Hasan for providing office room for Hope Foundation in Dhaka.

Hope Foundation for Women and Children of Bangladesh- is a registered charitable organization in USA established in 1999. Mission of Hope Foundation is to provide healthcare to the needy in Bangladesh through building healthcare centers in remote areas.

Hope Foundation Advisory Board members Jocelyn Absarulislam, RN and her family with the help of volunteers joined the New Jersey Italian-American Festival in September 2008. The team helped to create awareness for Hope Foundation, attracted new volunteers and donors.

Long Island, NY Fundraiser

Long Island, NY Fundraiser. A private fundraiser was held in New York in October 2008 at the residence of Mr. Syed Hasan a prominent and respected businessman in order to raise funds and awareness of Hope Foundation projects. Mr. Syed Hasan is also a member of the national Advisory Board for Hope Foundation. The event was well attended and well received by the prominent professionals and businesspeople of the Long Island area.

Google Grants Awarded.

Google Grants Awarded. Hope Foundation recently received an in-kind grants award from Google for up to $10,000 a month in free advertising on the google search engine. This will help direct interested people from all over the world to our website to encourage donation, volunteers and more interest in the project.

Hope Ambulance Service begins providing service.

Hope Ambulance Service begins providing service. Based at Cox’s Bazar Hospital for Women and Children, the Hope Ambulance Service is now providing emergency medical transportation to anyone in the Cox’s Bazar District. The Cox’s Bazar District Commissioner formally inaugurated the ambulance service in August 2008. The ambulance was donated by Mr. Lokman Gani Chowdhury, a Gainesville, Florida businessman.

Direct Relief Grants Received. Direct Relief International has awarded two $5,000 grants to help establish two Hope Medical Centers. One in Shariatpur and the other in Ratnapur, Banshkhali. Both areas are prone to devastating cyclones.

Ratnapur Hope Medical Center opened in September, 2008. This is the 6th Hope Medical Center to open in Bangladesh. The clinic was sponsored by Mr. Mujibur Rahman, a renowned philanthropist in the Ratnapur, Banshkhali area. This project is supported by a matching grant from Direct Relief International, a California, USA based non-profit organization.

NGO registration: Hope Foundation was granted official NGO status with the Government of Bangladesh in October 2008.

A Hope Foundation national office is now located in the capital Dhaka. This office is due to be fully operational shortly.
