Suff-x AKA Bryce Elder has sought to push the boundaries of breakbeats in the Pacific Northwest for over ten years and also been featured at gigs alongside Uberzone, Terry 'Atomic' Hooligan, KiloWatts, Tipper, Radioactive Man, Ben Milstein, Kraddy, Dov & Bil Bless and many more luminaries of the breakbeat / electro scenes.
His connection to Muti Music began with a 'Virus Crew' gig that Muti owner 'Dov' played at in 2002, there meeting the very unique and standout talent in the form of Suff-x.
This chance meeting resulted in a few years of back and forth with Suff-x coming down to San Francisco to be featured alongside Radioctive Man AKA Keith Tenniswood, Dov & Kraddy venturing up to Portland and Seattle to play with Suff-x and Terry Hooligan and then sharing the stage that Suff-x put together at the Phoenix Festival that also featured Ben Milstein and Dave Tipper.

Suff-x shows up at gigs with what looks like a regular DJ coffin and when he opens it up reveals one of the most unique live setups most people have seen, setting him well apart form most 'laptop' live sets and DJs alike.
His armada of gear includes two samplers, X/Y controller pads, DJ mixer and a multitude of little gadgets that blink, glow and glitter in nightclub settings.
He juggles tracks, effects, broken tidbits, squiggly snippits, and boogie-down basslines off of his dual samplers set up in battle-style fashion, giving a nod to his turntablist counterparts--the majority of which wouldn't keep up versus a "scratch mode" session on his korg kaoss mixer!

After Drum & Bass white labels and digital releases on So Broken records, 2006 saw the release of his CybersetFreq & Electro Medicine EP on Muti Music and has gone on to receive huge support on dancefloors domestically and abroad. His track 'Phantasm' was featured on the widely acclaimed compilation CD Clipping Paths. Hear 'Phantasm' featured on the Youtube video of Suff-x playing Live below:

2008 sees Suff-x delving into even more diverse genres, while always keeping it bass-driven and urban.
His new EP, 'Suff-x - Six Pack EP' (Muti012), kicks off with a Dubstep outing,'Belmont Break' and then rolls into the bass and percussion driven Drum & Bass track 'Trunk Nuggets' and from their into deep breakbeat, electro and back into two drum & bass tracks to close things out, this EP is a good taste of even more to come from this diverse producer.

Dust storms and bio-diesel generators vibrating amongst a haze of awe, exaltation, celebration and emotion, bass blasts out of a mutant vehicle set up at 'no-where in particular', roughly lining up between 3.15 and 'The Man' and near the snake sculpture, a crowd moshes and bounces to bass-driven, crunk mutations of something that must be dance music, by the fact that people are clearly dancing to it.
Justice - Nazereth tears the sound system a new portal and the systems grinds down to a shreak, radio waves pulsate through the air and a PA announcement,"You are listening to an-ten-nae radio 91.1FM." This is 'an-ten-nae' AKA Adam Ohana, bringing it amongst the likes of Freq Nasty, Adam Freeland, Lee Coombs, Glitch Mob and many more dance music luminaries at Burning Man.

We have featured his remix of 'Elixir' in our blog last year but feel that it is time for a more extensive look at the man who is as likely to be rocking designer fashion line launches in Tokyo as he is festivals around the globe and freaky scenes across USA.
Adam has more than 10 years of recording history and releases on a plethora of labels including; Functional Breaks, Superstition, Ceiba, Edgecore, Sessions, Return To The Source, Positiva, Pyramid Records (UK), Moonshine, Transient, Big Booty and of course Muti Music amongst even more and a few white labels too. He has as many aliases and styles to match the output and has proved a production maestro to be taken note of.
Adam currently produces as 'an-ten-nae' and is also one part of 'Orgasmotron', 'Ruined' and 'D'n A'. His remixes and mashups make his sound and his sets as unique in sound as they are in flavor, he's been known to classify past sets as 'Punk-Rock-Country-Hop' and the sound he's dropping now could loosely be classified as 'Dubstep' and 'Glitch Hop' fused into a bass-driven twisted dancefloor crunk that leaves little option but to get down a groove to.
An-ten-nae has used his musical vision to influence the San Francisco nightlife scene for more than a decade and resulting in him revitalizing super-club 1015 over the past 3 years and more recently launching a broader production company that produces some of the most dynamic nightlife events in the San Francisco Bay Area.
So after all this verbose praise we feel we have to share his latest mixset outing called 'Dark Side Of The Dub'. Keep your ear to the ground in 2008 (or just watch this space) for his new series of releases on Muti Music including remixes from the likes of Lawgiverz and Dov.

Ghislain Poirier's Bastard Bass Mutations

No longer an underground secret to Montreal, Ghislain Poirier is on the global production map. Not only does he know how to drop some of the illest beats dub / glitch hop / crunk / soca / grime beats, he is a production force to be taken seriously.
Prior production includes work for labels; Institubes, Intr_version, 12k, Scape and Resofantom.
His 2003 and 2005 albums, 'Beats and Politics' and ‘Breakupdown’ on Chocolate Industries helped break the mold and his latest outing, No Ground Under(ZEN138CD), was snatched up by none other than Ninja Tune and is setting a new standard for wompy, bassline bounce driven tracks.

The popularity of midtempo and also what many breakbeat fans would call half-time (ala dubstep tempo) tracks is booming and somehow I feel we have barely scratched the surface. Albums like No Ground Under, the forthcoming Freq Nasty album, 'The Missing Channel' and the work that Switch and Freq Nasty have done with Santogold, are taking this interpretation of dance music to a level not yet defined.
This 'new' use of bassline driven urban beats without rigid genre boundaries is only about to bloom.

Add to all that the rapid growth of the US west coast "Glitch Hop" phenomenon with artists like 'Kraddy' and large electronic labels like BPitch Control (Berlin based) with producers 'Modeselektor' and 'Apparat' and some labels like 'Colony' in the UK and of course Ninja Tune, who've quietly been plugging away for years at fusing Hip Hop beats with IDM and the electronic music scene's dance-floor vibes, all embracing more sound design elements in dubstep, midtempo breaks, soca and bassline house.

The future looks very bright for those who like basslines to bounce to.

Clipping Paths Compilation

Clipping Paths is a compilation showcase of the sounds that are moving the west coast at the moment as well as many other areas around USA, including small pockets in Colorado, Texas, Oregon and New York.

The CD ranges from deep urban vibes from Suff-x, Undecided and Vibesquad, to ethereal bass-driven tribal midtempo and Trip Hop from an-ten-nae, Nanda, KiloWatts, Timonkey and Dov, to a crunky mixed genre mid-tempo track from Ooah, that is sure to rock most dancefloors, but deep enough at the same time to prove the perfect segway heading into the deeper territories of IDM, Leftfield and Nugaze inspired tracks from Audiovoid, Kraddy and Slidecamp ending the CD in a very warm and luscious space.

Many of the styles featured have been growing in popularity and seeing large exposure with the emergence of a similar musical tastes in scenes growing in Berlin, San Francisco, London and even Cape Town. This 'newer' sound has partially been an homage by producers to the Hip Hop and Big Beat along with early experimental electronica that they loved in the nineties and bootlegging the hyphe and crunk of the new millennium with the new digital tools and a new production based prowess.

Muti Music is known for finding new and unique talent, this compilation features most of Muti's regular roster and then a group of closely related artists that we are feeling, who are also emerging on labels like Alpha Pup, Interchill Records, Dirtybird and Native State.
This compilation is as fun for a come-down session, a groove and a mingle, a fire warmed cabin or even a hang on the beach, so go and get it for someone for the holidays.

It's been out for a month or so, but we thought we'd share one of our tracks that has been gaining quite a lot of support on Podcasts, online radio and review sights.
It's one of our labels key players 'an-ten-nae' doing a remix of our D'n A - Elixir release (Cat # Muti010).
If you're not familiar with an-ten-nae, he's a multi talented producer who's done everything from techno, trance, downtempo to narly breaks and very tasteful crunky beats. His mashup remixes on his 'Punk Rock Country Hop' mix saw wide acclaim and he has seen support on highly acclaimed labels Functional Breaks, Superstition and many more including Muti Music.

His latest mixes on tour have been rocking floors alongside the likes of Surkin, Freq Nasty, Z Trip and many more with a uniques blend of midtempo breakbeats, dubstep and 4 to the floor bass-driven beats that will rattle most genre classifications off the shelf. At one stage an-ten-nae was named by Adam Freeland as the American breaks artist to look out for.
an-ten-nae has a whole slew of tracks coming out on Muti Music in 2008, including the forthcoming Muti011 release which includes a remix from the Lawgiverz.

An ongoing event for almost 2 years, the Entheocentric Salon - a series of monthly events at CoSM (Alex Grey`s Chapel of the Sacred Mirrors) comes to SF to rally local communities around Visionary Culture. Inspired by the Seventeenth Century French art salons, we incorporated discussion, dance performance and multiple live painters into an all night electronic music party model. Starting the evening with a visionary lecture, gives the events depth with the creative energy from all the artists, sending a wave of cultural satisfaction throughout the party.

The first west coast Entheocentric Salon, the beginning of our new monthly series, hosts Alex and Allyson Grey for a Lecture on AnthropoCoSM: It is through a human lens that we understand our world. Alex Grey has developed unique yet universal symbolism that points to a realm of infinitely interconnected beings. Grey will review the history of AnthropoCoSMic sacred art and architecture and share his most recent visions of CoSM, the Chapel of the Sacred Mirrors. Intending to have a comfortable environment we are limiting the attendance of this lecture to 150 people.

Later, at Temple, we will move the event into a very special club environment - decorated with ancient statues, a temple built using the latest technologies to create an eco-conscious venue ` Temple SF is changing the club standard. Alex and Allyson Grey will be painting live, while artists of different genres, performers and other visual talents will be performing through the 3 rooms of the club.

San Francisco is blessing us with an awesome indian summer this year and it is a time for love, Love Fest has somewhat already begun today and culminates with an insane amount of worldwide talent performing this weekend at the parade and United Nations Plaza in San Francisco. Artists from Muti Music will be performing in a variety of areas and after-parties, so look for Dov on the Magic Bus leading the parade, and then an-ten-nae, Audiovoid, and Dov will all be performing on the triple decker Magic Bus at the plaza and at the Anon Salon after party.

Mammals On The Brink

We are ecstatic to announce the release of a full length album on Muti Music. of some of the dopest downbeat grooves around, by an awesome guy named Timonkey. His Album 'Mammals On The Brink' is downbeat dance-floor friendly while also being a favorite to have in your iPod while walking down the beach or some suchlike activity.
