2023 : UNCHARTED TERRITORY? ,YES, BUT.....!!! :Sir Olusegun LANRE-IYANDA

I REMEMBER those times when in the BOY SCOUTS, you wanted to venture into a New Territory and the ONLY things you had on you was your backpack,the contents which may include,a pen knife, lanyard, match sticks( or lighter) & maybe water & some biscuits. Your "Scout Master" would amongst other things, then tell his boys " ...go ahead & use your survival skills, REMEMBER you're able to conquer the territory.. blah,blah,blah..."

SURPRISINGLY,we would survive those territories no matter what difficulties or obstacles we encountered in those uncharted terrains...!! WHY? We (and true to our "catchphrase"), were PREPARED as SCOUTS to encounter,face and surmount any obstacle.As growing boys,we were trained,coached and equipped with various "SURVIVAL" skills which gave us advantages EVEN in uncharted terrains.

This new year may indeed be " an uncharted" territory BUT BE ASSURED that as you PREPARE WITH DETERMINATION to TAKE ACTION WITH EVERY WORD that has PROCEEDED out of the "MOUTH" of the LORD,the 2023 TERRITORY is yours to CONQUER...!!! IT IS WRITTEN in

2 Chronicles 27:6 KJV (Paraphrased by me) : So Jotham BECAME MIGHTY ( CONQUERED THE UNCHARTED TERRITORIES} , BECAUSE he PREPARED his ways {HE RESORTED TO AND MADE USE OF HIS SURVIVAL SKILLS} before the Lord his God.

The STANDING TESTIMONY AND BEAUTY of my training as a "Boy Scout" IS that, though I COULDN'T continue as one due to some developments which included financial debility of my parents back then in the sixties,the INSTRUCTIONS, TRAININGS, PREPARATIONS,and the EXPERIENCE INFUSED into my being STOOD me in GOOD STEAD and on TERRA FIRMA in the MANY YEARS that FOLLOWED ...!!!!

Those WERE instructions from men and an Organisation founded on the Wisdom of men. BUT Now, we have plethora of INSTRUCTIONS, EXPERIENCE, TRAININGS etc GIVEN AND TRANSMITTED TO US FROM the WORD OF LIFE..THE WORDS THAT GOD HIMSELF HAS ELEVATED EVEN ABOVE HIS EVERLASTING AND EVER RELIABLE NAMES...!!!

WITH THESE WORDS AND BY TAKING HEED TO THE INSTRUCTIONS THEREATTACHED,WE CAN NAVIGATE THE UNCHARTED TERRAINS AND WATERS OF 2023 SO WE MAY STAND ON SOLID GROUNDS IN EVERY ASPECT OF LIFE. IT CAN'T BE THROUGH ANY OTHER MEANS,NO..!!!

HAS 2023 BEEN HANDED TO US TO POSSESS? YES..!!!! WILL IT BE ON A "PLATTER OF GOLD"..??? NO..!!! WHY NO, HASN'T IT BEEN GIVEN? THE ANSWER LIES HERE: Deuteronomy : 2:24 NKJV {Paraphrased By Me}

"'RISE , TAKE YOUR JOURNEY {INTO 2023} , and CROSS OVER the River Arnon.{EVERY OBSTACLE} LOOK, I HAVE GIVEN into YOUR HAND { EVERY BIT OF 2023}Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land.{NONETHELESS, YOU'VE GOT ONE THING TO DO AT EVERY POINT OF POSSESSING IT} Begin to possess it, and ENGAGE (CONFRONT AND USE ALL INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN YOU TO ENGAGE) HIM {ALL THE CHALLENGES OF 2023} in battle.

WELCOME TO A NIGERIA..WITHOUT THE..BLACKBERRY!

Recently, I was listening to a news item on a Nigerian newspaper headline that sounded like this “Govt.Plans to Ban The Use of BLACKBERRY In Nigeria”. Hey that would be nice. Wouldn't it?

At last we would be spared the nauseating sights of girls ( I refuse to call them “ladies”) on “okada” “BlackBerrying” away with all careless abandon for their safety! We would be spared the sights of robotic humans fixing their attention only on their BLACKBERRY while walking along the avowed Nigerian dangerous city roads! We would be spared the nauseating and disrespectful juniors ignoring the presence and to wit-the instructions of their seniors, in preference to the commanding and ubiquitous presence of the BLACKBERRY! Imagine what peace would descend into every home at the ban of the BLACKBERRY if women/wives were deprived (a-la BLACKBERRY ban) the opportunity of romancing their BLACKBERRY on cold nights instead of their “poor” and “lonely” hubbies! Oh the agony of seeing your wife glued endlessly to the BLACKBERRY and pinging the “lifeless” black machine instead of “pinging” your lip or body!

Would you not prefer the ban of the BLACKBERRY to the now rampant use of same even by students and candidates while writing exams? Would you not prefer to cast your vote for the ban of the BLACKBERRY to seeing those lewd, explicit and “X”-rated pictures pinged almost “per second, per second”(as my father of blessed memory would say) without caring for decorum and decency?

How about rumours? You can’t punch a hole in the argument that the most veritable avenue for spreading dangerous,seditious,nerve-wracking,defamatory,polity- inflaming and if you like-devilish rumours in this day and age in Nigeria is…wait for it….the BLACKBERRY! I get a feeling that Hollywood, Bollywood, Nollywood and music stars would heave a sigh of relief at the final answer to their prayers through the ban of the intruding BLACKBERRY! We would be free from pings like “have you heard that ……is now dating the wife of……….”-with the name of a pop,film,economic or political rising or shining star inserted without caring for the veracity of same!

BlackBerry-the first thing "addicts" pick in the morning instead of morning devotions and the last thing they resort to instead of saying "goodnite" to their Creator!

The verdict against the BLACKBERRY in Nigeria at this time is “guilty, guilty, guilty, and guilty as charged” therefore welcome to-Nigeria-the land where BLACKBERRY is indeed black in colour, black character, black in usage, black in reputation, black in everything!

While agreeing that the use of BLACKBERRY may be getting out of hand and is being abused, can we exonerate other means of communication in this ICT age? If BLACKBERRY is banned, “Darkberry” would be born!

I honestly think the ban, if carried through, would be a wrong step in the wrong direction that would give birth to wrong and un-envisaged consequences! For instance we would have a more underground/dangerous form of social medium to grapple with.

By the way, I don’t have a BLACKBERRY and i have no intention of buying one! Not that I’m averse to the use of communication gadgets-not at all.in fact i have a state –of-the art- android phone as well as a HD tablet. I am not cut out for the BLACKBERRY but that does not say others shouldn't use it. To now take it to the ridiculous level of banning it would be like killing a newt with a TNT!

If the rumour is true, I think the government is getting too jittery over small matters that should be tackled through sensitisation!

Wait a minute! This can’t be true. It’s only a rumour and i didn't get it through the BLACKBERRY. I got it on the newspaper review on TV! Shouldn't the Nigerian government consider banning the TV or better the DSTV, the MYTV, the STARTIMES, the DAARSAT and the MULTI TV in addition to the BLACKBERRY?

LESSONS I LEARNT FROM MY CHILDREN!

I was at the dining table,glad to be home after a hard day's work.Legs stretched;both hands clasping the base of my skull and waiting for a glass of cold orange juice my wife thoughtfully offered to bring me.The last thing on my mind was to be bothered by any care in the world.You know those times when you just don't care about other people's needs but your own."The whole world may sink but don't take me along"……..Then I heard her voice-my favourite daughter! "Thank God you are back Daddy" "Yes,’am back" I said in a not too welcoming tone hoping she would back off and let me rest.
Before I knew it, she jumped at me,hugging and shaking me with excitement. "Oh no,not today" I thought.She kept on 'welcoming' me the way she has always done since she started walking.She made a high jump onto my laps sitting face to face with me."Now what" , I muttered under my breath almost sounding offended.She kept on."Now,Miss Williams, the English teacher said to ask our parents the meaning of 'irritation" ."You just said it...", I thought, "...that's the meaning of what you are doing to me" Thank God she couldn't read my mind!

"Well my dear,go and bring the dictionary","I already brought my pocket dictionary Dad,I guess you'd want us to search for the word together" "Oh yes,why not?"

So we searched for the word,got several meanings which she used to form some sentences for the assignment she was given by Miss Williams.Need I say that she returned home the next day bubbling with excitement and joy for having done it again with Daddy.Was I proud of my daughter-and of myself? Yes,of course.
Imagine for a moment that I “ pushed” her away the previous evening when I was dead tired! Imagine, I refused to let go of my own concern to attend to her demands! Imagine....imagine...imagine..!
I've learn't over the years that children are children any day, and they will "disturb and irritate”when you least expect or even make demands you wish they never did.
I’ve also learnt that anytime you attend to them,you mature better,you become wiser;more accommodating;more considerate and more willing to think of yourself less and thereby climb the ladder of self discipline once more.
I'm still friends with my children today because I always try my level best not to lose their friendship and it is surprising that those periods usually come when I was least prepared for them. You know like the proverbial 'thief in the night'

Have you lost your children’s friendship due to some unguarded behaviours?Have you lost their friendship because you are too busy?.......It’s aNew Day!A New Day for a FRESH beginning!Look at the pictures you used to cherish and roll back the good times.

RAYS OF VICTORY

Have you seen the Sun today? Did you notice its brightness? I should say,has there ever been a day you see the clouds covering the Sun and thereafter the Sun didn't shine again? No!

The Sun has an in-built quality to shine no matter how dark the cloud had been! There are even days when the clouds are there and the Sun is there sending its powerful rays through the thickness of the cloud's darkness and then you see some golden gleams! Tell me why human beings,I should say some of us-has the tendency to let go when situations are dark.!

The Image of Whom we are made of IS an ever triumphing Image!Never say die Image!Overcoming Image!Joyful Image.Why should any one be less than these?

When those clouds come,reach for the Inner-Man whose Image you carry and let HIM take over and propel you to greater heights.No day is unconquerable!No situation is!

Let the day unfold its gleam of brightness into your being and Have a Happy day!
